OP, there is some good info on expat-blog forum for Saudi which is region specific too. Just recently there's been a poster on Britishexpats.com forum for Middle East which has been answering any and all questions regarding Saudi and there's a really interesting blog called blueabaya which has good info on it. Good luck with your decision.

Sorry, I'm on my phone.... We're about to move there. Could you be more specific about the restrictions? Obviously women can't drive and we need to wear an abaya. I know there are other things to get used to such as certain places should only be visited with your husband and shops closing during prayers etc. On that point, what do people do if they're at the mall etc?? I believe just recently you cannot get a cab from a mall, you need to pre-book one to collect you etc. So there will definitely be a change in the way I organize my day (that is before I start working). Are there any other not so obvious restrictions that you could tell me about? I must say I'm actually quite looking forward to it, new adventure and all that :)

Thanks for your reply wuffles. It seems it can be done at any government hospital in the UAE. Let's hope they don't decide to send him home to have it done when it reaches Saudi. How are you enjoying it there so far?

We had this drama too, every morning and when we wash hair.... I tried all the oils recommended and can open a small shop with all the products we've tried that have not worked for detangling my daughters waist length, curly hair. Then just recently, we were at a birthday party and daughter was running around with her hair unbrushed and looking like a birds nest (insert embarrassed smiley here!) because we'd only managed to brush her hair for about 5 minutes before she'd had enough. Another mum at the party offered her unsolicited advice for such a regular product I almost rolled my eyes......... but I went and bought it because I had not tried it and for 20dhs I thought what have I got to loose. Lo and behold it is our new miracle product. I told her I bought her a new grown up conditioner, just like mummie's and let her put it on herself. No tangles, 2 minutes to brush / comb through and she now loves taking care of of her gorgeous hair. Use the Pantene Oil Replensihment conditioner when you wash hair and then the Pantene Oil replenishment leave in overnight cream (comes in a pump bottle) before you comb wet or dry hair. We actually use the overnight cream everynight now and plait her hair before she goes to bed.

I'm going to try and workout how many products I can recieve in one shipment with the least cost for weight, just to try a few first.

A remedy my granny used that works. Collect eggs shells put them in a bag grind with a rolling pin. This will give you little shards of shell. Spread then in the flower beds on the top of the soil. The snails avoid them as they cut the underbelly and the shells do compost back into the soil.....win win ;) Thank you! I will try this and let you know if it worked. There might be a shortage of eggs in RAK in the coming weeks ?

Do a google search and you will find various methods using beer, cornmeal, sand, coffee grounds, etc. Amelia thanks for your reply. I've googled and seen all of those remedies. The only one I've not tried is the coffee.... Only because the others had no effect. I'll give it a go though but not holding out much hope. I can't believe we have such an infestation and that we're the only ones not able to find a definite treatment. Well I suppose we have but it'll cost 500dhs every 6 weeks grrrr.

Definitely Miele! Mines been shipped several times to move countries, at one point sat in a storage unit in Dubai (unairconditioned!) and survived many maids using it and still not one problem. Washes come out cleaner than from any other machine I've used.

Mcb, yes you are correct. If the dose prescribed is too low it is likely to result in having to take another course of meds. However, I was on the maximum dosage each time for 3 months at a time. The first course as a teenager left me acne free for around 10 years and then i had another 2 episodes as an adult. This is why I've posted a reply. After being through all of that and the severe side effects of the strongest meds available to cure acne, I found that its not always necessary to go that route. Of course, we don't know how severe the OP's daughter's acne is, and she might well only respond to roacutane but if it were me I'd try another method first, it should start working in about 10 days, and if not then you know. Good luck op

There are many things that can be done for acne these days - I had it severely as a teenager and then a few times as an adult. I've also used roacutane a few times and would only recommend it as a last resort (I think this is what you mean by side effects?). I would advise seeing a dermotologist rather than trying various skin care products. I can recommend Dr al Nassr on al Wasl Road. The last outbreak I had (of genuine acne, not just spots) he managed to clear up with a combination of topical meds, antibiotics and birth control. I'd seen a number of other doctors who were eager to prescribe roacutane to clear it up but I was hesitant to go back on them for a fourth time and at the time he was highly recommended on here, and so I went to see him. I wouldn't say his bed side manner is the best, and if you want things explained you do need to ask but I was very happy with his treatment and would return to him if I have acne again.

I'm trying to choose between him and Dr Khan so if you could comment on him also with regards to tear trough fillers that would be great. Thanks

Good morning all, Can you recommend any podcasts to subscribe to? Any genre will do. I currently subscribe to HBR ideacast, bbc documentaries and Tedtalks and some others which I won't mention because you'll just think I'm weird :) have listened to a few of the Stuff You Should Know podcasts and The Partially Examined Life but I was pretty disappointed with them. So are there any others you would recommend? Thanks

She has a script but there is no stock in the Emirates, it seems. Which is why I'm trying to find out if she can get it from somewhere else. why would a doctor prescribe something he knows she can't get ? in the past when I've needed a medication that's in short supply my doctor has found an alternative... Pikachu, There is no alternative available.

Crashingwaves you are fortunate to have found a treatment that works well for you, and also to have it available for you to purchase. Unfortunately betnovate does not work for me during a flare-up. It's the salicylic acid combination that does the trick. I've had scalp psoriasis for many years and unfortunately, when it gets really bad, diprosalic is the only treatment that works. All the other options are ok to keep it under control AFTER treating it, but when it flares up badly diprosalic is the only treatment that can get it under control. I've been informed that it is not available due to supplier issues and not because it has been discontinued. In fact I bought some about 6 months ago, not in Dubai but in another emirate. So, if anyone does know where to get it I'd appreciate hearing from you - you'd be a psoriasis sufferer and understand how frustrating it can be having no meds to treat it.

Hi clark14, Yes, I was instructed to massage and did so. I also drove all the way back to Dubai 4 days after the procedure to meet with the doctor. He asked me to allow the filler to settle and to continue massaging, which I did. I then had a follow up call from his nurse and told her that it's pretty much the same and I wasn't happy with the results. Instead of having hollows I now have bags :( The doctor was out of the country at the time (he runs another practice in the UK) she promised to pass the message on but I've not heard anything from them again. To be honest, I'm not sure I would trust the same doctor to dissolve the fillers. From my research before and after the procedure the technique indicates lack of experience in this particular area - I'm completely satisfied with the other fillers (from nose to mouth). The Botox was also not as "artistically" done as I've had before with a dermotologist. For example I wanted the frown lines between my eyebrows completely frozen ( this has been done before) and with this doctor it was not the case, I wanted my outer eyebrows lifted slightly (this too has been done before) and he said this is not possible at all. He said I must be mistaken that this was done! Meant to say the filler was juvederm.

Just to update, she eventually had to pay to see a Cosmetic surgeon privately back home. He told her that the filler was injected too superficially and too much injected, which usually happens in the hands of someone inexperienced. I found the Dr.'s name for her on this forum, he was recommended on more than one occasion here, I guess the fact he was the only one who could give her an appointment within 2 days should have rung alarm bells. Luckily she had nothing permanent or major done. Hi, I've recently had fillers for hollow tear troughs. I also used a plastic surgeon recently recommended here but unfortunately the results are not what I expected. The fillers were definitely placed too superficially, one eye has a rope-like appearance where you can see the filler was injected while the other one has has too much filler placed into the hollow, leaving me with bags under my eyes rather than hollows :( When your friend consulted with a second surgeon was he able to remove the fillers successfully? How did it look afterwards? Thanks

If you are heading from Abu Dhabi direction towards Sharjah, it's the right exit AFTER Mirdif City Centre. Once you exit, just drive straight till roundabout, make u-turn and come back. Once you pass Arabian Centre on your right side, there will be exit to Etihad Mall/Union Co-op. Exactly as dramaqn says - the exit name is al Khawaneej.

I've not tasted the mint flavor but have tried the original and cinnamon. To be honest I don't find it that bad to drink but after the first few days I decided to mix it with about 100ml of water and down the lot, followed by lots of water of the next few hours. That's what i did today and tbh it is so much better. 500 ml of that stuff was pure torture , so 100 ml even though it is very strong, it is easier to take down. I just drink the remaining 400 ml or more of water straight after. It should work in the same way, right? :) Yep, its working for me! Just be sure to drink a lot of water in the next 2 or 3 hours, I drink about 800- 1000ml but then I always have been a big water drinker.
