Never Filo, M&S do sweet shortcrust or regular shortcrust mini cases for filling.. You could make your own with a mini muffin tin, they don't take that long to make with a bit of melted butter and a sharp knife! Thanx, I did think about it but I hate filo, just not patient enough and always end up ripping it..

I think we moved from same school as NM last year. NAS is on our radar for Year 7, but do have concerns it will be another school like the one before. So really interested to see how they develop and fingers crossed they have started as they mean to go on..

If you taught in Cairo, you may well know the principal and some staff at Victory Heights Primary School, maybe worth dropping them a line.

I have dogs, and am very aware that when I leave and enter the house they bark and make silly excited noises. When we first moved in I made a point of going to see our neighbours just to say that if they caused them any disruption to please just let me know and I would try and manage it. I think they were comfortable with the conversation and acknowldeged that they could tell when we were going out but once we had left the dogs settled and no further noise. It is difficult as not everyone is personable but I would hate to think mine were causing others such a headache.

I saw it in AD too it was just superb. I had heard that it would be a different performance here, so keen to hear how long it runs for. They said the one in AD was specifically for the festival so hoping the one here is different so I can justify going again :-) Have a great time.

I agree, it's interesting that he acknowledges the issues but has no solutions. Out of his control no doubt, how very frustrating to be in such a position.

I haven't been down Umm Sequimm since the flyover has opened. So just wondering how I would get to Creative Minds now . Do I just go all the way down to SZR and then loop back, I am coming from the Ranches direction. Or is therea slip along there somewhere that I can take? TIA

Can you look online at somewhere like bluenile and choose a comparable stone to here to get an idea of price? If you get the clarity, colour, cut etc and then go to Cara's you will see the difference. Just make sure they are both graded by the same i.e GIA.

We use Jim Will Fix It, always been very good. Not used Hewitt & Sons, but know of a few people that have and were far from impressed to say the least.

I am sorry you have had this experience, as a parent I can say this is certainly not the norm. If you haven't done so already I would definitely take it up with the principal. If for nothing more to ensure that she is aware of what has happened, and for feedback as to why you have been rejected. Good luck, finding a good school here is very difficult you have my sympathy.

Thanks both! I have gone through all the posts on EW about both schools and from an outsiders point of view, they seem to be on the same level - I was just wondering if there are any aspects that would make you choose one over the other? I don't have any experience of Horizon, so if you are split then it would come down to location for me.

We were advised that they are for locals as part of a housing project. One was being advertised for rent, upon further research it transpired that the owners are not permitted in the deeds to rent and that the area is specifically designated to locals. Not sure what the consequences would be if you ignored that and somebody decided to inform the relevant authorities, so beware.

Well our dd did attend R, so I can comment based on experience. If I could turn back time I would, it was not a good experience. I am not going to go into detail, but I can say that the majority of comments you will find here are accurate. Last year was enough and we were finally able to move her, and we opted for Victory Heights. It has made a huge difference, her confidence has increased, she is not made to feel small, the teachers encourage and build confidence. Her first comment was that she couldn't believe how friendly the teachers were and they all SMILE. It is a small school, it is nurturing, it is about the whole child, the Principal is very involved. We are relieved and so happy for our dd to love going to school. Yes it is for profit, but not in the way R is. I can say hand on heart there is absolutely no contest for us. I think it will come down to what your expectations are.

Christa is lovely but she is not an Ed Psych. Back in the summer we met an ED Psych in the UK who used to work here many moons ago, she recommended Ruba Tabari to us, she knows her from when she worked here and said highly recommended. ETA, sorry just saw this was an old thread so recommendation not needed now, hope all is going well for all the children. edited by emlsnre on 03/02/2014

We have used City Hospital twice for our dd, both emergencies. First time she had been sick at school and very quickly became floppy, they were brilliant getting her straight in and fluids in. Both Dr and nurse were fantastic. Second time again as an emergency having had her fingers crushed in a door. She required surgery and this needed to be done by a cosmetic surgeon as micro surgery to stop the bleeding. In both cases the care was very good.

From memory (which can be a bit dodge) I think they are approx 400dhs more than a well known non profit school. You know if they need to buy new equipment or props the pennies has to come from somewhere, and as you say the do because they can.. Last year there was quite a drop in the uptake, I think a little more than a third of the year group didn't attend.

Busybee2 yes I know, I am in no rush for it so don't mind waiting. It is of sentimental value and I think in the long run will be cheaper to ship here than store in the UK. Anyone have any experience with shipping such items? The shipper hasn't specified if the price is a solo or shared ship, and with it being the time to be jolly the offices are closed now. edited by emlsnre on 28/12/2013

We were open and honest with the school as to who we were seeing, also on school applications we also answered honestly. Fortunately, we got into a great little school who are very active in working together to ensure our dd is receiving what she needs while in school :-) I can understand your dilema, we got lucky I feel.

How does this friend know? Has it come from her child? If so, then I wouldn't be too worried, kids can blow things out of shape. But if you suspect yourself things aren't right then I would go and speak to the teacher and see what's what. Best to give them the opportunity to try and address any issues and always better if you can work in partnership.

This may no longer be relevant as the new thing opened today.... Yes had forgotten about that. Wonder if they will deal with cases lodged from today only though, or if they will take cases already filed. Maybe it will be more like a mediation court now. Just around a table and each get the chance to say their piece. Will be interesting to find out.
