Just in case people don't know what a flight buddy is or entails, please explain it. We used a flight buddy to ship home our dog and two cats and it was extremely easy for the flight buddy. But before we had to ship them I never knew what it was. In our case we paid for a round trip ticket for our flight buddy from DXB to the States and she collected the sky miles and had a day layover to rest and shop.

I know for a fact they have a troop that operates from Universal American School. You could call the school tomorrow and I'm sure they could pass along the troop leaders number. If you don't get anywhere with that, post here again and I'll try to find her on campus this week.

I think you can substitute with the regular canned biscuits and just double them.

Park N Shop at Green Community has them. They are by the milk and cheese section in an end cap. What recipe are you making? You might be able to substitute with something else if you can't find them.

In Feb we had to move from the Ranches and we found a place in Al Quoz to rent through Max. We were assured that their subletting was legal and they showed us all of the paperwork proving the lease was "legal". We went ahead and signed the lease at 8:00 pm (the office had already closed) and gave them the deposit. Overnight it didn't sit well with us and we went back the next morning at 9:00 am to cancel and our deposit had already been sent to the bank and we couldn't get our deposit back. In the end after lots of shouting on my husband's side, they finally returned all but 2,000 dhs. Thank goodness we got out of that place!! I feel for the people caught up in this.

The Samosa or Sambusa wrappers are closer to the texture of what Americans call egg roll wrappers. So if you are ok for them to be triangles and smaller then you can see this youtube video of how to fold samosas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE9WZzjVGhI I missed egg roll wrappers so much I once made them homemade... using my pasta roller... at the time I made it I said I would never do it again but if I crave them again I know I would do it. edited by Abaddon on 18/10/2014 I guess in a pinch I don't have a choice. The triangles might be easier for the kids to pick up.

BTW, to oven-fry, preheat a liberally greased metal baking sheet at 400F/ 200C. Brush each item liberally with oil on all sides, then place in oven. Keep an eye on items and turn as necessary with tongs. Definitely prevents burst wrappers. That's a great tip, thank you!

We lived in the Ranches for 3 years and had no plans to ever leave until our LL decided to "sell". Our move to the Villa was the best thing to happen for our family. Our courtyard is much friendlier than our area of the Ranches and we love living in a small courtyard with 3 little children that can ride bikes and play. We lived on a busy street in the Ranches. The new Spinneys and community market is expected to open in Dec so that will help with some of the lacking amenities.

Ah I see, the recipe you linked is a really heavy filling so maybe the spring roll wrap isnt thick enough? edited by Cherpie on 16/10/2014 That's my concern, that the spring roll wrapper won't hold up when I'm deep frying.

I know spring rolls and egg rolls are not the same thing. Spring roll wrappers are thinner and made from a rice base. So I'm hesitant to use them. I've found spring roll wrappers every where but not egg roll. Anyone else?

We are American and our children go to an American IB/PYP school here. I taught in the early elementary grades in the US for many years before moving here so I was really particular about what I wanted in a school for our children. For me, I wanted our children to learn spelling and phonics the way we do it in the US. Ex: favorite spelled without a "u", a Z is pronounced zee instead of zed, it's a "period" instead of "full stop". I also wanted them to learn US math and History. My children are taught to count US coins and they do Everyday Math. Last week I know the 5th graders were learning about Jacob Lawrence, who is a famous African-American painter. Fortunately my husband's school allowance covers the cost at the moment so the price isn't really an issue for us yet.

There is a t-shirt kiosk directly in front of Ethan Allen in the Dubai Mall that does them. I get my kids' names on the back of their baseball jersey each season. It will cost you 25 dhs for each jersey.

You need a Shop and Ship (SNS) account. Also referred to as an Aramex account. This will give you a US address in New York that companies can ship to and then Aramex will ship it to your house in Dubai. Unfortunately Target will not ship to a SNS account. I've tried speaking to phone reps about it but they won't do it. Amazon however will ship to your SNS account and I've used it many times.

Sorry but your appliances won't work here. Hotels normally have hair dryers in the bathroom so you should be okay there. And this summer my US curling iron died so I ran to Target and picked up an inexpensive curling iron for $9.95 (36 AED) Could you do that as well and then keep it for the future if you ever travel back?

We flew our Lab from the US through Frankfurt on Lufthansa and she got excellent treatment. I would 100% recommend them. She flew as cargo and had a long layover in the Frankfurt airport and was vet checked while there. She flew from Houston so the layover in Frankfurt broke up the long trip into two easier 7 hour trips. Please do not fly your dog on Delta. We fly them as a family but I would never fly my animal on them. They have a terrible reputation and the pet relocation company we used out of FL would not use Delta because of their mishandling of pets.

My DH is from West Palm Beach and grew up in Titusville, not far from Orlando. My inlaws live north of Orlando now. Once you set foot on the FL beaches, the Jumeriah beaches will be a distant memory. And if you can get up to Destin for a day on the beach, oh dear, it's lovely. The sand is like sugar, it's so soft.

Hi Lennox79, We adopted 3 children in 3 separate adoptions (2 from Russia and one domestic adoption) after 7 years of trying to get pg using all the infertility treatments. Our adoptions were fairly easy but that's more b/c of which country we are residents of. We maintained a home back in the States (it had our furniture in it but was not rented by someone else) which legally kept our home study in the US current and legal. We used Dr. Hamden with Human Relations Institute to handle our home studies here in UAE. His office was very accommodating and understanding of the red tape and legalities of trying to adopt while living here. Give the yahoo group a try first and see which countries are currently open to you since some have closed to certain nationalities recently and then try Dr. Hamden's office to see how they can help. Good luck!!

I wanted to add more, As far as the tax here it was very little, both under 2,000 dhs each. The first car we shipped, the shipping company handled all of the paperwork from start to finish. The second car I handled all the paperwork here myself. I even went to the port to pick it up and did all the paperwork myself at the port. It worked out well because when they saw me come in they moved me to the front of every line ahead of the men. I guess they don't see a lot of women there. LOL. If you want to ship your car back then bring your original bill of sale when you bought the car. You won't pay an import tax to get it back to the US. There wasn't any spec difference in our cars to get them here. The a/c works great in both cars and we've had them here for 3 years. The only downside is my GPS on my Honda Odyssey doesn't work here so I bought one from here to use. But the great thing is no annoying dinging sound when you hit 120 kph as the Gulf purchased cars have that warning bell. For us it worked out fantastic and I'd do it again. It was so easy.

We shipped both our cars from the US and it was very easy. We have at least 3 American friends that shipped their cars too. One of our cars was paid for and one wasn't. For the car that wasn't paid off we simply got a letter from the bank saying we could ship it out of the country. We shipped them at different times and from different ports in the US but we used the same shipping company. The car cannot be more than 5 years old and the tires not more than 4 years old. There is a date of manufacturing on the tire. They go by that and not the age of the car. For the car that was paid off the tires were practically brand new since the car had mostly been sitting in storage in the US but we couldn't get it through inspection here until we purchased new tires and they were more than double the price here vs the US. So get them before you ship if they are older than 4 years.

DH and I have searched online for quite a while now and are having a hard time finding a high quality laser printer. DH is starting his own business and would like a printer to produce his brochures so he'd like a step up from the home printers we find at DG Sharaf and Emax. We have tried officeworks.me and officeone.me and neither place has an employee that knows printers and can help us. They either have printers for home or the super high end printers for large offices. DH asked at work where they get their printers and they gave us a name of a place in Satwa by the port but after 4 attempts to get someone to call us back from there we have given up on them. Anyone know where we can get a high quality laser printer?

I don't think the new combination is working at all. Kenny & Accalia were great together, they had a great rapport. But it is just not working with the new girls, they are utterly boring and have no presence whatsoever. edited by mum2girls on 24/03/2014 The new, young girl is painful to listen to. I drop IQ points every time I have to listen to her rattle on. I loved K&A but I just can't take that new girl so I've turned them off.

If you google importing a car to the US the govt has a website with instructions. Did you purchase the car in the US or here? We shipped ours from the US and returning them is going to be very easy. But if purchased here it's not as easy. You'll have to pay an import tax on it if purchased here, you'll have to get it to US specs, and you have to get the undercarriage steam cleaned before shipping, to name a few things.

I don't know. I was put on the combo b/c I told my ob/gyn that my PMS was getting so bad that I finally realized why some animals eat their own young. So I've only had the two of them together and things have been better. I also used to get almost daily headaches, not migraines, but just a dull annoying headache and those are now completely gone too. That I think, is the magnesium.

We used E Movers from AD to Dubai and they were great. This time we used Movesouq.com and got 5 different quotes and we ended up using Safeway Intl. They were HORRID and I cannot say enough to warn everyone not to use them. I did a search on here and on google before booking them and didn't find anything about them bad or good so now I'm going to make sure no one has to suffer with them like we did.

Kavsmum I wanted to come back to this thread and let you know your directions were perfect! Thank you! We loved going through the mountains on the little two lane highway. We saw goats wandering the road, donkeys, and other wild life along the side of the road. The kids loved driving through the mountain tunnel. It was so scenic and a nice change from all the sand we see in this part of UAE. We ended up grabbing lunch and stopping at Kalba park to eat and let the kids play on the playground. For our return trip we took the E84 out of Fujairah back to Dubai. Super easy drive! Thank you again!
