Absolutely! The well known plus sized shop in Jumeirah is eye wateringly expensive I will only shop there if I really have to. I buy in bulk from Bravissimo in the UK any time I'm home, to avoid being ripped off here. Good luck!

I always get them from Boots and buy in bulk anytime I see them to avoid using OB's. THE worst tampons on the market!

I go to Essa for nails and waxing and can recommend Pastels in Ritz Carlton for hair. Word of warning though - hair is mega expensive here so start saving!

Me! Fit like? :) I won't be at the coffee mornings but there are lots of Aberdonians in Dubai. If you don't meet anyone at the coffee mornings I'm sure you'll stumble across more of us just out and about. I hope you're settling in ok?

I go to Essa in JLT and can't fault them. Have also been to Pastels in Ritz Carlton which was good and Kalm on the Palm which I would avoid like the plague.

I pressed the wrong button and ended up calling my mum. Had a lovely chat then hung up with no problems. I don't have a *** and not sure how they enforce the ban but it worked for me (accidently!)

You can also use the roof terrace above Rivington Bar and Grill at the Madinat Jumeirah (or rope off an area in the bar). They ask for a minimum spend but as long as you have guests paying their way at the bar the minimum spend should well and truly be covered and then you just need to provide a few canapes or nibbles. You can also decorate the area with balloons, lanterns or photos etc. The Rivington closes this weekend unfortunately.

They provide a table and chairs but you'll be lucky to get the stuff on the table before it's sold. Yoy will need a clothes rail. You don't get much for individual pieces so you need a lot to sell to make it worth your while. Books didn't sell well when we tried. Good luck!

I have just used the shampoo and conditioner. I find it a but heavy for my hair and it leaves it a bit lank. I just use it every now and again if the frizz gets out of hand!

I have. They were ok but nothing special. Very expensive for what you get but I haven't had any experience of other training providers in the region to compare them.

Depends what you think is worth it. We made 1680dhs (minus the 270 for the stall) but someone else we knew who was doing it made about 3600dhs. We were selling most things for under 20dhs and to be honest you're so overwhelmed by the crowds that you'll take anything to get them away from the stall! If you only have a couple of bags of things I would give them to your maid and save yourself the bother :)

I did my first flea market at Ibn Battuta yesterday and it was an experience. We didn't even make it out of the car and people were in the back seat rummaging through boxes. I lost the rag a wee bit and eventually managed to make it to the stall and we sold pretty much everything. The stall is expensive though and you don't get much for your stuff - 200/300 dhs is unlikely. To be honest its not an experience I would repeat in a hurry but Dubizzle has been equally frustrating when selling bigger items!

And is that different from the road that goes to Sports City/VH? Or is there a direct road up to SC/VH? Look at GoogleMaps from JLT to VH and follow the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Rd directions - it shows you on the map.

there used to be a back road to JLT along past the Gemplex buildings. Is that not there anymore? Also I'd LOVE to know the routes of all these new roads out the back of JLT. When you say one goes up to VH, which one is that? And is it literally into VH and nowhere else? Or can you get on MBZ road from it? Eeek I'm not very good at the road names! I took it by accident and I came out on Emirates Road I think and you have to go to the Green Community turn off and double back. I think I followed the signs for Sports City ended up coming off onto Al Fay Road in the direction of VH. It's much better on the way back though and I can get to JLT in about 8 minutes. Not sure if that helps in the slightest!! :D

There is a new road at the back of JLT that I take to Al Fay Road/Victory Heights but not sure if that helps That's the one I was thinking of, just not sure exactly where it goes, or how you would get onto the Al Khail I think it depends which way you want to go. I'm still getting the hang of it but you could always do a u-turn at the roundabout at VH before JGE and that would take you back on to Al Khail Dubai direction

I had a similar experience when I first moved over and gave up after 10 months. 12-14 hour days with more work than anyone could cope with eventually took their toll. I was miserable, exhausted and my mum was ready to fly out and take me home! I'm now back in a familiar industry, working "normal" hours and enjoying life in Dubai. They ask a lot of you over here and certainly get their money's worth but if you can find a company that values your contribution it makes a big difference. If you're that unhappy and can't see it changing I would look for something else. Life is too short!

I will be selling most of my furniture in January. You might need something to sit on before then but if you're interested let me know! What items do you have? Are they in good condition? All items are 18months old and in excellent condition - washing machine, fridge freezer, oven, tv etc, Ikea bedroom and living room furniture and Pan Emirates sofa. I won't be doing anything until I'm back after Christmas but I can arrange to get photos to you if you're interested.

I have a two year lease with National Car Rental and got a really good deal. It was in Ramadan which might have helped! I've had no problems with them though so would recommend them to anyone looking for a long term lease.

Any present is pretty much foolproof if it's Frozen! My three year old niece is also Frozen mad and I have bought her an Elsa wig to go with her Elsa dress, and a pair of Frozen pj's. If you're not sure if she's in the Elsa or Anna camp - pj's with both of them on it would be a safe bet. Otherwise books, dolls or anything to dress up with. Hallmark had some nice wands and tiaras.
