Hey Beebers, Sadly they don't get on. At all. But Feline Two turned up in the garage and I didn't have the heart to get rid of him. They've managed to come to an understanding re territory, F2 doesn't really come inside and this seems to be working at the moment. An uneasy truce! I think you''re right re the decision not to introduce any other cats to yours, they're pretty solitary creatures I reckon, unless they've been socialised together from a young age....

Hey Beebers, Happy New Year! We now have two cats, one likes listening to Schubert, washing himself repeatedly and sleeping on the sofa. The other likes rolling in puddles, turning up looking like a Beaver and eating vast quantities of food. Glad to hear you still have yours, hope he's doing OK.....

Hey Beebers, Just caught this and I have had stuff framed by Hamad Frames in Karama. There is also a framing shop next to Park and Shop. I had a painting framed there. Both are good, the latter more expensive than Hamad Frames. Cheers,

I'm a relative newbie on this forum, so I don't know about the halcyon days of yore which other posters refer to...... but one thing I think is a bit odd is I can't understand why they don't allow posters to email each other. Dunno, shouldn't we be free to choose if we want to meet up outside of the coffee morning thing? Like Daza says, I think there are some genuinely helpful people on here who are a source of useful information, but the moderators seem pretty vigilant and there aren't exactly a lot of fun topics. The most entertaining threads I've seen on here were provided by the infamous Moonflower......

Hey Daza, Saw on another thread you recommended a place to get turf. Excuse my ignorance, but is that the real grass which you buy ready to plant? Are there any restrictions on what time of year you can do this? Another quick question if you don't mind, do you have any recommendations for a great gardener in Ranches? I've been searching without much luck, but I know there must be good ones because I've seen some lovely gardens around and about. Any advice much appreciated!

Cara in the Gold and Diamond Park are very good. You can choose a diamond, of whichever carat/colour/cut you fancy and then choose whichever setting you want to accompany it. You can even take in pictures of a ring from a magazine and get them to replicate it......

hey sarah, that's brilliant, thanks so much for your reply. I love Dermalogica and I have never had what I would call an 'advanced' facial, I just like the steam/mask kind of thing. Your reply confirms what I've thought often, that a lot of these treatments cause more problems than they solve.... with the exception of laser hair removal, which I have tried and thought was worth it.... thanks again for your reply, you should get your mate to write a blog......

Geordie, it's because I have a sun spot which I've heard can be removed by laser, but on consultation was advised not to cos apparently laser can make it worse..... dunno, but I wouldn't want to do anything that could damage my skin cos beyond that I'm fairly happy with it.....

hey sarah, I hope you don't mind me asking you this, but you seem pretty knowledgeable about all things aesthetic and I was wondering if you would mind giving this board a heads up on what cosmetic procedures you reckon are worth it and which aren't. I'm asking this because I saw you write somewhere that lasers are a total waste of time, I'd love to hear your thoughts on stuff like that..... haven't had anything done, but was thinking of maybe having a peel, got super sensitive skin and at the moment happy with how things are, but thinking of whether/what to do in future......

Daza, I've heard this from so many people. My cousin had her nails done, I confess I don't know the brand name, but it sounded like a plastic coating which lasted for about a month? Anyway, she said that it wrecked her nails and the nails of her friend who did it at the same time. I'm really pretty cautious about anything like that, talking of which sometimes when I am having a pedicure I see the way some of the beauticians are digging around down the side of other customers' toenails with a metal implement and I don't understand how they're sitting still! I'd be off my seat and out the door! Blimey, I won't let them do any of that kind of thing!

[i'>Once I had them off, I noticed my lashes were considerably shorter in length and so thin and brittle. I used vaseline every night before bed on them to start strengthening them again! I definitely wouldn't have them done again![/i'> Wow Geordie, that pretty much confirms everything I'd suspected about their effect on your own lashes and the beautician I spoke to admitted as much. Great post, I'd already decided that I wouldn't try them out, but hearing what you said makes me glad I never chanced it. I've never done the false nail thing for similar reasons, one girl in a salon told me that they totally destroy your real nails and I'd be mad to do it, dunno if others here have had that experience?

Hi, I think you're right to do some research first. Like Polly, I considered having them done, but decided against it after talking to the beautician who did them. She was pretty good and advised me that I probably wouldn't tolerate them since I have sensitive eyes. To be honest, it just sounded like an enormous faff. Apparently a lot of people are allergic to the glue used in the process and as others have mentioned, you can't use any oil based products, like cleansers, while wearing them. I think I would have hated restrictions on makeup removal and not having the 'clean skin' feeling after washing. Dunno. They're very popular, but when overdone I think they look incredibly naff, you know that spider lash thing that just looks ridiculous? If you wanted to give them a test run, try a half set, but if you feel any kind of sensitivity go back and have them removed pronto. Seen some grim pictures on the internet of nasty allergic reactions, let us know how you get on if you give them a whirl.......

I highly recommend Sani Service. I had to call them in after another company did an inadequate job. I was very impressed with Sani Service, they take before and after pictures of the condition of your AC interiors. Well worth it, professional, very thorough and I could feel an improvement in the air quality after their cleaning. edited by Artemis2 on 29/03/2015 edited by Artemis2 on 29/03/2015

This is absolutely horrendous. I didn't see the news conference, but what they're currently saying on Sky almost defies belief. My heart goes out to all the relatives and also the thought of what those people on the plane went through, those poor exchange students, it's just horrific and heartbreaking. I can't comprehend it at all.

Geordie, thanks for your tips - really useful. I've just run the towel idea past my husband. He thinks I'm dreaming if I reckon I can get a towel over the furry one's head. It's reminiscent of the first time we tried to get him to the vet by putting him in a pillow case. Saw it on the internet, where it was claimed that difficult cats would immediately become calm and compliant. Ours did. For all of ten seconds. Thankfully I subsequently learned to pick him up by the scruff of the neck. Anyway, I'm going to have another try later on, the blowing on the nose tip is great!

Hey Geordie, I think the towel is a really good idea, I was thinking of trying to wrap him in one to contain his paws. The plunger thing that the vet demonstrated is good, as long as I can get him by the scruff and shoot it thru his front teeth.... trouble is he's out most of the time cos of this blasted work, bit stressful, I'm going to try what you suggest when he appears later on, beyond that I think he might have to do a week in the vet. He won't be a happy chappy. :(

Izzy, that's really kind of you, I'm in Ranches, but the main problem I've got is keeping him inside at the moment cos there's some construction going on and he won't stay in the villa or garden whilst this is happening. The vet showed me how to get him by the scruff and pull his head back, then slot the plunger between his teeth and bob's your uncle. Needles to say, it looked fairly straightforward then... Thanks again Izzy, I have a feeling that this is going to end up with a week's stay at the vet's, if I can't get him to stay inside

Beebers, thanks for the tip, always good to know that somebody is recommended, sounds like he did a great job. My cat is more of a problem, I've been trying for the last few days to administer these blasted antibiotics, and it's a no go. Unfortunately, if I am not successful he will have to go the vet for a week and he absolutely hates being enclosed.... I get the plunger, look at him, with his jaw clamped tightly shut and there's just no way.....

I've got a bit of a situation going on with my very stressed cat, he's got to take antibiotics and I'm struggling to administer them, no point putting them in food, he won't eat it. I have a plunger thing, but the technique eludes me, I know you're a cat expert, any tips? Thanks Izz

Of course you have a choice about whether to buy a kitten from a pet store or not. Saying that you are '[i'>tired of waiting[/i'>' is not a persuasive reason to purchase a pet and you should bear in mind that a long haired cat in particular will require a great deal of patience. Their fur is predisposed to accumulating dirt. And toilet waste. As other posters have said, there are a multiplicity of abandoned, neglected cats in this city who are desperate to be homed. Their struggle for survival is pitiful to see. If you wanted to adopt one of those, it wouldn't be difficult. Long haired cats require far more care than Maus. I do hope that if you buy one, you plan to devote plenty of time and energy to grooming its fur, a task which short haired felines accomplish for themselves. edited by Artemis2 on 10/03/2015

Almost30, you have been given one year's notice to vacate the property. As is the law. Your landlord apparently wants to sell his property. As is his right. It's his asset. He can dispose of it as and when he chooses. If he subsequently moves in other tenants at a higher rent, then you have the right to pursue a case with RERA. But until that happens, what right do you have to remain in the property beyond the 12 month notice period merely because it suits you? The landlord has the right to sell his asset without a sitting tenant. Having you [i'>in situ [/i'>might negatively affect the price. Are you seriously claiming that your landlord has no right to sell the property vacant even when you have been given 12 months to find alternate arrangements? Good. Grief.

Izzy, I called Vet Care on the off chance that they might be able to help out and it looked like they had a potential solution, but apparently they contacted the British Vet and they've found somebody! Crikey, I'm just curious, why do you want to sell without an agent? My understanding of the process here is that the buyer pays the majority of the fees, so what would you gain by doing it all yourself?

Daza, that's a great idea with the box, apparently kittens are easier to foster than adult cats, so hopefully you'll be able to get him/her re homed. Daza, good on you for trying to help the little chap. Unfortunately I'm not able to home him, I've just taken on a 'garden cat' who appeared a while back, similar story really, turned up starving, no idea of where he came from. My own cat is just about tolerating the interloper, so we're keeping him. Here's my advice. I contacted Bin Kitty collective when Felix first appeared and they lent me a trap cage, I got him to the vet, gave him his shots and had him neutered. But if yours is only a kitten you don't have to do that yet. Would it be possible to keep him in the garden for a while and feed him there? I don't think he'll run away if you're feeding him, our new arrival didn't even run away after I'd brought him back from the vet missing his boy parts, (!) so I think yours would hang around if he's being fed. He's probably very scared and stressed, but if you feed him, put out some water for him and maybe a cushion to sit on, hopefully he'll calm down and start to trust you.

[i'>Do you really think that you have the moral right to remain in somoene's property after they have given you a year's notice to leave?[/i'> Good point Izzy. Also, why on earth should the landlord be forced to sell his property with a sitting tenant in it? He should have the right to serve notice and sell it vacant because if it's occupied that might negatively affect the sale price. The property is his asset to sell as and when he sees fit.

I am baffled by this latest spat. For a kick off, I don't understand what anybody would gain from reanimating inane questions about how long it takes to get from A to B from another board. I mean, seriously? I think it might be a bot, but then to what purpose? I can see that those who bothered to answer are miffed since they presumably thought they were replying to someone authentic. But what I can't understand is what possible ulterior motive would compel someone to construct an identity and bombard a board with these vacuous posts. Good grief. Dullesville. It makes [i'>Moonflower[/i'> look like Comedy Central.

I would never go to that place. I think it's so distressing to see animals who are confined in such tiny spaces that they're doing that deranged pacing thing, just awful. If zoos aren't done with the absolute comfort and 'freedom' of the animal to roam in as natural an environment as can be created for it, they shouldn't be done at all. FWIW, one of the best zoos I've ever seen is Houston Zoo. It's a terrible shame that zoos exist at all but they should use Houston as a paradigm, that's the way to do it. edited by Artemis2 on 19/02/2015
