Would you recommend the heat treatment? Were you happy with the results? Thanks.
Yes, certainly I would. Bugs were all gone afterwards. But ever since then, I keep an eye on my beds and check regularly as my husband travels a lot (and that's where those bed bugs came from as per the technician from the pest company) and hot steam clean them from time to time even if I don't see any sign of them. We were lucky as I spotted them while there were only few of them and so avoided infestation.

Hi! I know this post is a year back but is thermocure the same as the heat treatment? I'm looking at chemical-free options, too as I have a little girl at home.
Yes, it is heat treatment.

As far as I know they are busy registering sibling applications now. But I would drop a message to the registrar to find out.

I used National Pest Control few years back. Since my DD was a little baby, I had to use baby-friendly (but pricey) option called Thermocure. Just google their name, you'll get their contact details.

Well, we did a 3k run as a family - it was our first time ever. It was that Saturday after very bad, windy/rainy Friday. We had to wait for another 1.5 hours for the draws and prizes section of the event but we couldn't stay that long. Next day I learned my son was 3rd in his age category and he is entitled to get a trophy. He is 9 and you, moms, understand how this is important. He was overwhelmed to know that but the trophy.... I am trying to reach the organizers by the email address they have on their website but no response so far. Please anybody if by any chance know any contact details or other means of communications. I don't have Facebook account anymore to write on their page either (not willing to create only for this purpose, honestly). Pleeeeaase

I was with Dr Yamini with my daughter (she is now 21 month old). I choose Al Zahra because I wanted a hospital that would be close enough to home + good facilities/equipment and based on reviews on EW I choose Yamini. She was throughout my pregnancy and generally can't say anything bad about her (except she made me nervous couple of times - once it was about gestational diabetes and another time she said my baby's legs were too short). When it came to THE DAY, she didn't show up as it was Friday. She was on the phone couple of times with the midwife Emma (who was brilliant, BTW) and later, after delivery just said I was doing great as per midwife and her help wasn't necessary.

As a temporary resident (which we all expats are) you need to consider selling your car once your contract term is over. If you came to Dubai for 2-3 years, then I would personally suggest used car. Because any car that leaves the door of the showroom looses its value immediately (unless you don't mind. So, better get 1-2 year old car. If you are on a longer-term contract, then any option will work.

OMG, this is a great thread! My DH calls it buttwashy. But I never get to use it. It just never worked for me because a) it is cold (for my ... there) and b) it just hurts because flow is just like a gunfire

+1 for Saniservice. Right now they are cleaning our ac in the new apartment we are going to move in few days. I have been using them for the past 3 years now. Never considered other suppliers. These guys do their job properly and I've been happy with them.

Looks like during long Eid holidays we are stuck in Dubai without DH, so I was wondering if anyone's already been there and can you share your experience? I have a 9-year old son, who I think would really enjoy those rides but I also have a 20-month old toddler daughter - is there anything for such young children (at least some soft play area)? The tickets are quite expensive so I wanted to get more information before we actually go there. TIA

A friend of mine complained about the landlord who keeps on sending the maintenance team to fix things in the apartment. Apparently he wants to sell his property and that's why trying to fix old problems (which he ignored while they have moved in and mentioned to him when discovered). He sent 3 different maintenance teams to inspect (to get a competitive quotation, I assume). And when my friend told him she is not feeling comfortable with all these guys coming in and sometimes without prior notice, he told him he has rights to do fixing as per law. On top of that every other day real estate agent keeps on brining people for viewing and she doesn't know what to do since her hubby in business trip and she is there with small children. So is this normal for landlord to fix/do maintenance work (which has not been requested by tenants!) as per law?

There are ways to sneak in veggies. You just need to keep on experimenting. I put steamed and pureed vegs into baby cereals, which my toddler enjoys from time to time. I learned to make veggie pancakes and now experimenting with different vegetables and combinations. But don't fall into the trap of cooking different food for your toddler. S/he needs to learn to eat a family food from table and eat those food you cook for her as a snack. My elder used to eat and enjoy bread only when he was a toddler. But eventually he grew out of it. Yours is eating curries and yogurt, which is already good.

Thanks, sheikhandbake, any names you could recommend? Did you consult with physiotherapist? It is actually funny - our pediatric doctor is Dr. Ahmed from FamilyFirst, who said my dd was ok. But I still do want to show her to someone who knows the specifics of muscle tones, balancing, walking, etc.

When I used to work in the office 5 years ago I even wore boots to work in the month of June(!) because it was freezing in the office. Unless your work requires you travel around the city too often I would suggest not to disregard whatever the fabric that is not suitable for heat as you mentioned.

How old is your child? We put our DS into school bus from day 1 in KG1 when he was 4 - he took this very positively, he was very proud of it - as part of being a school student (not a nursery baby anymore). Our friends also used school buses for their KG/FS children.

This school follows American curriculum as ad states and I've noticed all American curriculum schools have very high fee structures. Maybe because there aren't many of them? But yes, 84k for KG1 is ridiculously high. We are paying 75k for Grade 3 in DAA and want to move to some other school. It is too expensive for us. Average fees are around 45k for the same year in most of the schools (IB curriculum or British) and KGs are around 20-30k.

Thanks a lot, all. AnonDubai, will check Dr Amy, we are clients of Dr Ahmed in FamilyFirst anyway. Thanks for recommending. Comp99, hopefully it is nothing. I have seen Saliha Afridi at our school, she was making presentation (can't remember what was the topic). Maybe will consider her as well if can't find anyone else. Nobbles, thanks a lot for your warm words. He has been like this probably all the time. But we know that we can do changes while they are young, otherwise we have a live example in our family (his aunt, my sister in law) who is just miserable, who sees world around her in gloomy colors. We don't want him to become like her. I am sure there are ways to change, at least a little bit. He is a happy boy in school but there are challenges like anywhere. We just want him to face challenges in a more manly manner, so to say.

We almost started believing we are bad parents as we can't instill a positive attitude/positive thinking to our almost 9 year old son. His negativism is also impacting his self-confidence most of the time and as a result his interests shrunk to the level when basically nothing interests him. We've been thinking about discussing this with a psychologist but somewhere deep inside hoping it would go by itself (aka procrastinating). But before really making an appointment, is it really something one would address it as a problem with a psychologist? If so, please please, recommend one.

Salamander, may I ask a question please. What is the reason for changing school, if you don't mind? The reason I'm asking is we are planning to change from current American curriculum to either choueifat or IB and the former is more priority/preferred option as it is believed to be stronger academically. But we just might not be aware of the all pros/cons of the system.

Was following an SUV Volvo car for some time on SZR which was zigzagging on the second left lane. When I had a chance to change the lane and looked who was driving it I was in shock: middle-aged Indian woman (she was wearing sari) was texting on her old styled blackberry and hardly looking where she was driving. Last Friday I took my son to a birthday party in Atlantis. The lobby was packed.... and 95% of them were on their phones. I thought how sad this whole picture was. Families and friends sitting next to each other but hardly existing for each other My friend came over to our place. We used to chat and have tea together before. But this time she was checking, then commenting on numerous whatsup groups chats/forums which were getting new updates every second. It didn't feel right to me.

Can't say anything about Kia but x-trail is a great car. I used to own one back home some 6-7 years ago. It wasn't full options but still loved it. Spacious, comfortable. I know they have changed design this year and rather looks like Murano. But I'm sure they are still good.

I was breastfeeding my DD (still do if she wants) anywhere: malls, restaurants. Never felt and seen anyone looking disapprovingly. Just wrap myself and her with breastfeeding blanket (which is a great thing to carry along and I use it as a blanket to cover her if she falls asleep too).

Why don't you directly talk to the landlord and agree on this. This year the tenant renting our apartment asked us not to involve any agent and she prepared the contract herself and both parties just signed it and that was it.

We had the same thing. My son had this skin test and we were told he had severe allergy to dust mites. The dr suggested that immunotherapy (72 vaccinations over the course of 2-3 years). But I refused to do it. Instead I went to another dr who said our case is not actually that severe and prescribed medicine + dust mite avoidance (proper AC cleaning, mattress, pillow covers, etc). So we bought him a good new mattress, pillows + covers. We called Saniservice to clean and disinfect AC ducts. They now also come once a quarter to disinfect the ducts. We took the medication as prescribed. So far so good, thank God. Which doctor have you visited?

What type of books are you interested in: for children and/or adults, in English and/or other languages, fiction and/or nonfiction? Anything in any language, it is for a project I am creating :) Do you have books you are willing to give away? Thanks a lot for your answer Yes I do have. I have already given away lots of children book to a friend with small kids, as my son has grown up. There is some more which I'm happy to give away (as I hate throwing books away into garbage bin). Give me your email or telephone number and I will contact you

I have a maid from agency working full-time, which is 10 hours a day 6 days a week. I know her salary is half of what I pay to the agency, which doesn't provide accommodation. Only transport is covered. I call her for occasional baby sitting on her days off which gives additional income. I give her my clothes which I don't wear anymore, I give her candies, biscuits and other products which I get as present or buy just to try but don't like. And she is happy and grateful. This may not be huge but still a contribution.

Yes, take him to dr Loubster. But you might end up waiting few months to get an appointment. You can do the same allergy test at Emirates clinic in Marina Habtoor. Dr El Rafei does them too. Much sooner if you don't want to wait too long.
