Cany any one tell me what you would use Apple Cider Vinegar for? I only ever really use Balsamic Vinegar and have no idea what to do with the lighter variety.

I can find a bit of information on Meydan Heights (tiny garden, bad plumbing, one pool) and not much on Meydan South apart from location, no pool yet built, and that they are semi-detached. Can anyone give detailed information on the two compounds. What is the layout (rooms, size of kitches, seperate dining & living? etc). The positives and negatives of both, and which would be the best choice for a family with 3 small children?

The only reason any person would pay that amount is to ensure their children are surrounded by other privileged children and their wealthy parents.

Sportzmom I sympathise and think the majority of women have been in your situation. It took me well over a year to find my feet. My main piece of advice is to indulge in your hobby and passions, whatever they may be, and join groups or classes that revolve around these. In this way you meet like minded people irrespective of nationality, age and marital status. Dubai has a wonderful range of possibilities. Think about what you are really interested in that you never took up back home, because you were in your comfort zone. You will be surprised at the possibilities.

500g lurpak butter at Tesco UK is £3.25. This is 17.25 dirhams according to XE. 500g lurpak butter at Choitrams is 21 dirhams. This means it is 20% more expensive for an imported brand. Considering the salary here compared to what you will make flying EasyJet and the like I think it is a fair price to pay. You can't come here and compare apples and oranges because you are not earning in pounds anymore. You are earning in dirhams.

That's right Silvstet. There is also the Lurpak butter which is a reasonable price. The only butter I have ever seen that is 30 dirhams is a waitrose premium organic imported from the UK. There are always cheaper options. I would say the shop is approx 10 to 20% more than the UK and that's only if you do not change your shopping habits and select the same brands you would at home. Carrefour is very reasonable and I always stock up when the basics are on sale, which is very regularly. Most of the costs Trigg Beach mentioned excluding education (and even then a lot of the EK staff pay for a school reputation) are optional - eating out, entertainment. I would advise you to look at PPrune as an abstract reality- nothing is that bad! They refer to the housing as Labour Camps. Really?! The houses are pleasant enough and the area will develop over time like Silicon Oasis. We love it here and while the rosters are busy at the moment we find this is a worldwide trend. If life was so good in their home country airlines they would be there, but they're not. So emirates must have something going for it! The moaners and groaners are always the most vocal, but they are not the majority.

I am from a 'western' background and i think it is inappropriate. I know most of my friends and family would feel the same way and we are not prudish or conservative. It is a show of complete disrespect to be welcomed in a conservative country and to put on this display. There is no need for it. Hold hands, give a hug, that's no harm, but know your limits too. I feel very uncomfortable, even on beaches in European countries, when people go too far. 'Get a room' in my opinion.

Commercial registration and trade licence as per the article, if you ask when you meet with them. The people who invest in these companies are mostly not stupid people. They know it is very, very high risk in order to receive these profits. They also know these companies rely on an image of success, hype, etc. This is why I felt compelled to comment as the original poster started this thread denouncing them 6 months ago, then brought the thread back into the forum 6 months later with an article which basically stated the obvious. I get the feeling she is operating on sort of Schadenfreude, watching from the sidelines and hoping for this big crash so she can say 'Told you so'. It annoyed me, and I am not an investor.

There is also a lovely shop in Dubai mall called Destination Maternity or something similar and they stock very pretty dresses. (Well, pretty compared to other maternity clothing some shops sell).

I also bought an amazing night dress made for nursing from Mamas & Papas in Dubai Mall. They were a pack of 2, one black and one pink, and I lived in them for the first couple of months. Comfortable and flattering.

Mothercare is great for maternity items. A bit more pricey here in the UAE, but still reasonable for the quality you receive. I think 2 x maternity bra packs are from 100 to 150 dhs. They are very comfortable and I passed them on to family members, so they last well.

For a single girl I would recommend the downtown area as it is central to everything and has a nice atmosphere, everything at your doorstep. I also think you should go for a studio or 1 bed apartment depending on your budget. Most buildings have security and I have always felt very safe here, so you should have no problem in that respect. You may also make friends through work then after your first year lease, you can always move to shared accommodation with people you are familiar with.

It is disgusting to our sensibilities, you are right. I do feel for the guys though. They are in a unique position of having a job that does not have an office, living in a country that does not have an abundance of public toilets, and living in a culture where they are often treated unequally and would not receive a warm welcome in many institutions were they to run in for the use of a loo. It's a tricky one.

Why are the chickens they sell whole in Dubai so small? Particularly that twin pack they sell in Spinney's which comprises of 2 whole chickens that weigh only 600g each. I was looking at recipes for roasting whole chickens, and the cooking times needed, and the smallest chicken I could see in any guide was 1kg. Are they not chickens, or a different breed of chicken? What is the difference? In most countries I've been chicken are usually 1.2 up to 2kg? Am I having an airhead moment right now?

Whilst I hope this post is well intentioned, and it does seem genuine, I do not think this is the appropriate place. I do not have a legal background but I think this is close to slander, and I would be careful in the way you have named this company in a public forum, in this country.

First of all, the money your husband earns is yours as well, because you are a family and it is a team effort. You have every right to decide how his income in spent. Second, you should be involved in the budgeting process. Sit down with your husband and communicate. Look at your incomings, outgoings and decide what your disposable income is each month and what percentage of that you want to save. The rest is your "spending money". This should be divided evenly or not, depending on your personal spending habits. Find a balance that makes you both happy. Or you can break it down further and also have a family entertainment pot, babysitter funds etc. The important thing is that you decide together. It is not your husband's money to dole out as he pleases. It is family income. Finally, 2000 dirhams to 2500 actually sounds amazing to me. I would love to have that amount of money to spend on myself each month. I don't think the amount of money is the issue. I think it sounds like your lack of control, feeling of dependence is.

If they have everything then you should just offer them some help. Take a plate of food over, or a tray of food they can freeze, and offer them your babysitting services. That would be the best gift rather than disposable and unnecessary gifts like clothes,

I did not like Albuferia so I have no recommendation other than there are better places to spend time. It felt like an avarage resort town that could have been anywhere in the world. No unique characteristics. In Portugal Sintra was the standout for me. Amazing place to spend a couple of days. Lisbon also had a nice vibe and unique city scape.

Vegan Princess I am very curious what you eat on a day to day basis? I am not asking in a judgemental way at all! I am just curious what you can actually eat if you are a wheat-free, gluten-free vegan? And how you plan meals? Do you cook separately to your family?

I would be willing if it was a brunch and in an enclosed area where they could not escape themselves. I have 3 children so the most I'd be willing to pay would be 50 dirhams per child for the duration of our visit.

Mrs Cobb what you are saying makes no sense. Were you a better teacher at the non-profit than you were at the for-profit school because you were being better remunerated? I would think teachers if they have any integrity would do their best at any school they were employed.

Disposable bottle for the baby also good if you are bottle feeding as you can eliminate and free up space as the flight progresses rather than end up with dirty bottles everywhere!

I also recommend Marhaba. When I flew into Dubai with newborn twins, and the lovely Marhaba lady walked up and took my bags off me and helped us into the cart, I almost cried. They also cut through customs and collect bags for you so no waiting which was a welcome relief after a very long flight! My list is: -Change of clothes for all of you. -Lots of snacks (the smaller and fiddlier the better so they occupy them for longer- like Cheerios and grapes are great! Popcorn too if you can give it to your toddler yet) -A few rubbish bags. Trust me you accumulate so much waste and they take so much time to come and take it so this is essential. Good for your well being too so you don't feel even more cluttered. -A baby carrier so you can have your hands free. -Sticker books are great as they keep a toddler occupied for ages. Markers can get really messy so crayons are a better option or colouring. -An ipad loaded with heaps of photos and videos they can flick through. The entertainment TVs are fine on the flight but this is a change up to keep things fresh, another distraction. -Keep the different products in seperate little bags. ie. the nappies/wipes/sanitiser etc all in a little bag, the snacks all in a little bag etc o they are easier to grab when needed and not have to search through the large bag to find something. Please make sure your children are well rested or it will be a disaster. I have tried keeping them up so they are very tired and sleep more on the plane but it always backfires, they can't sleep and are super super cranky and tantrum-prone instead. Make sure you get a great sleep before you leave as well. Let your partner/parents take them off your hands until the last possible moment,
