I'd recommend Armani Deli in Burj Khalifa, outside tables have fantastic views of the fountains. If Dubai Opera is on the deli does a pre or post theatre set course meals. Was 130 AED for two courses and 160 AED for three course when we went. See link - https://www.hozpitality.com/news/announcements/november-listings-armani-hotel-dubai-2016

Have a look at backpackers insurance or mountaineering and trekking insurance policies. We used a backpackers insurance for our DD when she was doing martial arts as it covers many 'extreme' sports.

I'd stay away from any products that contain parabens, aluminium or alcohol. Parabens in face creams, toothpastes etc and aluminium and alcohol in deodorants. Not just while pregnant but also as a nursing mother and beyond.

As a tourist you can't legally drive a privately owned vehicle, I'm not sure how you get a sim card for your phone, as already said, visa runs are a legal grey area and the rules can change overnight, not sure how easy it would be to use travel insurance for routine gp visits, you won't be able to get an alcohol licence so legally can only drink in hotels, if your husband has housing in his package it may affect his allowance if he is officially living here alone (though he may be entitled to more flights home !! lol).. I'm sure there are lots of minor things we take for granted having an ID - resident discounts etc, but I can't imagine any benefit associated with being on a tourist visa and can't really imagine why anyone would want to do so... I was not aware that you can't drive a private vehicle as a tourist. I wonder why that is? Again, I still have my UAE driving license from my previous residency which is valid for 10 years. RTA told me it doesn't cancel but then again, you know how the laws always change! As far as the other things though like housing allowance, etc (Loads of things I didn't think about!) Thank you :) Your driving licence is only valid as a resident, you stopped being entitled to use it and drive a private car as soon as your visa was cancelled regardless of what date it states. Insurance companies will only insure residents to drive. I have called the RTA. I was told that the UAE driving license is valid for the duration of its issue regardless of visa status (cacelled, etc.). Then again, we know how the "rules" change depending on who answers the phone! This person also said a "first degree relative" can drive a personal vehicle on a visit visa and with a foreign driving license. Not only a hire car. That once you have residency however you must move to the UAE license to drive. So it does seem that I could drive my husband's car on my foreign license and on a visit visa even though we are currently using a hire car. LL I fully understand where you are coming from but I strongly recommend that you double check with the car insurance company. I'd worry that if you had an accident you may not get charged with not having a licence but could be charged for driving without insurance. That's without even considering the financial problems. Our insurance company (one of the main large insurance companies) very firmly informed us that our "first degree relative" (daughter) could not drive our car as I quoted previously.

I was about to say the same as Dally. You might physically still have a driving licence but it technically won't be valid as you're no longer a resident. You can be sure the insurance company won't pay out if, God forbid, you have an accident. If I were you, I'd stop driving til you get your visa sorted, or at least get a hire car instead so you're 100% legal. This isnt correct - driving license validity is not connected to residence visa - hence the reason your driving license doesnt automatically get cancelled when your visa does (or they would ask you to surrender it along with your Emirates ID). You legally have a license to drive in the UAE while the license is valid (renewing it might be harder). My husband has been driving here for the last 2 years without a residency visa, and uses my car to do his visa runs, without any problems. The below was published in the National last year ..... "It used to be the case that only someone with a UAE residency visa could use a UAE licence, but this was overturned by a Dubai court a few years ago, so theoretically it is possible to get a replacement licence even if a person no longer has a visa. It was stated that even if a residency visa is cancelled it does not mean that the driving licence is invalid, so it is usable for the time remaining until it expires. However, a driving licence cannot be renewed without residency." The RTA was trying to change the law so that professional drivers (truck drivers, taxi driver etc) had their licence cancelled when their residence visa ended, but for everyone else it remains valid. As usual with all things Dubai a very grey area. I do however have had conversations and correspondence from our insurance company that stated quite clearly "as per UAE law car insurance is only valid to UAE residents" Here is a copy of one letter from car insurance company Dear **** As per ministry, visiting visa holder can not drive a personal car. But rent a car is allowed to drive as long as she is having international driving license. Once she got resident visa, can convert her UK driving license here and start the driving.

Download the RTA smart taxi app. You usually get a hala taxi and I usually find their drivers are better and more professional than the normal taxis. You also get the taxi driver's name and taxi number and he will usually phone to confirm pick up location so you will then also have their phone number. All adds up to better security. Forgot to say that if you use the RTA app for Smart Taxi you get the option to rate your Hala driver and leave comments.

Once again Tessa21 is the fountain of all knowledge but the OP didn't ask what's best she asked about private hospitals- you never know the friend may not be eligible for NHS care. I would expect that the OP or friend would research the recommendations and make her own decisions based on an informed choice. The surgeon I recommended is top of his field within the local NHS centre of excellence and even if seen privately he would refer patients to highly qualified and respected oncologists as and when needed. In fact my follow up treatment was done at the NHS award winning Northern Centre for Cancer Care (but as a private patient) therefore I'd consider I got the best of both worlds all my follow up consultations are with my chosen consultant at a date of my choosing and I always see him and not one of a team.

I'd suggest seeing Dr Anna Zickerman at Up and Running Physio first (Al Wasl Rd) Her and her team are excellent. I find seeing Ortho surgeons here are very quick to suggest the surgery route which isn't always needed. I had been looking at needing a total knee replacement for osteoarthritis but her and her physio's have worked wonders.

The thing is the companies in the western world manufacturing these pesticides won't admit which countries they export to, plus this doesn't stop other countries manufacturing or sourcing them from other countries. I do know their USE is banned in most European countries def the ones in EU, Northern America, Australia, NZ etc. I avoid China, India, Pakistan etc. I would try to avoid ME countries as a rule but being where we are that's a bit difficult and I don't get too hung up on it but if I can reduce my risk somewhat I'm happy. Even produce from good old M&S has its pitfalls, my SIL got me a pack of diced mango, but on inspection it was packaged in South Africa but was the produce of various African countries. You sometimes have to just go with your instincts and make your decisions accordingly. I was back in UK not so long ago and asked a market stall holder where their red onions were from, you should have seen their faces you think I'd asked them to explain the theory of relativity! I only meant the country not the actual farmers field! England as an answer was good enough for me.

Hi Gunpowder3 Parabens are listed in the ingredients it's actually a preservative. You need good eyesight or a magnifying glass! Some will actively state 'paraben free' Boots botanic range, some of Waitrose essential simple range of hand wash, shower gel etc, himalaya range of toothpaste, Sanex Zero deodorant to name a few. I didn't want to start a discussion about wether I'm right ir talking nonsense I was asked to post some of my thoughts and findings and that's what I've done. It's up to you all wether you listen, do you own research, disagree, be more aware of where your food comes from etc but I firmly believe in knowledge is power, whilst we can't eliminate all the risks with a little effort and forethought you can make a difference. It's a balancing act and I'm not so hung up on it that I don't enjoy a meal out, or having a massage worrying about the ingredients, I still get my nails done as I'm sure the benefits of feeling pampered are as important as everything else. As I said it's a balancing act and it's up to each of us to decide where the balance sits for yourself. Thank you to those of you who remember my diagnosis and appeal for advice and support - the support I got helped me though my journey. I am doing great thanks, annual check ups and still on medication but I feel so lucky that it was caught quickly and have a great prognosis.

Following on from my reply on a previous thread I thought I'd share some of my thoughts with you. You don't have to agree with me but if I can help raise a little awareness for you and help you make your own better informed choices all the better. On being diagnosed with cancer I started doing some research and also attended a talk by Chris Woollams http://m.canceractive.com/cancer-active-page-link.aspx?n=962 which I found very informative and got me being much more aware of where my food comes from and what I use on my skin. To cut a long story short, some pesticides that are known be to carcinogenic and use is banned in most of the western world (though not banned in producing it) is used widely in lesser developed countries or countries that don't care. Therefore these pesticides are entering the food chain and whilst we cannot totally control the origins of our food it helps to be aware and make informed choices if you wish. There is also a belief in the risks of parabens, aluminium and alcohol in toiletries, make up etc I therefore try to reduce my and my families exposure by sourcing parabens, aluminium and alcohol free products whenever possible. If any of you would like to post any advice or availability on produce (organic or ethically) and products feel free to do so.

I know this thread is going slightly off topic but regarding the price of food - as I am recovering from Cancer I am very much more aware of where my food comes from and try to source food from countries that I can trust doesn't use the pesticides that are banned in most Western communities. I choose to pay way over the odds for celery from USA rather than the cheaper variety from China, same goes with red onions (India) mandarins (Pakistan) These are just a few examples so buying my butter from France or UK rather than Eygpt, Saudi Arabia, India etc is not so much as sticking with brands I know and a life style choice it's a health choice, which obviously has financial implications but the health of me and my family comes first.

First question to ask is - is your DH here on single or married status with company? If on married status the company should provide you with health insurance and the monetary equivalent of one return flight per year to your home country. If on single status your DH would have to provide you with health insurance as this is now asked for when you have your medical for your visa. If you wanted to drive whilst here you'd have to convert your driving licence to an UAE one. This then poses problems in your home country as to wether you drive on home licence or UAE one ( you'd need to check at home on legalities) There's also the matter of a liquor licence if you like a drink or two. Personally I'd just come in as a frequent visitor, but only you can decide if it's worth the hassle and cost of getting marriage certificate notorised and attested, having medical, having finger prints done for emirates ID, converting driving licence and obtaining liquor licence and all the associated costs. If you want to stay longer than 30 days it's easy to do a visa run to the border just past Hatta.

I had a friend who worked in sales in a major hotel here. She ate three meals a day at the hotel ( during work hours ) breakfast when she arrived, lunch and then dinner before she left work. She actually kept little food in her apartment and made full use of the service provided at work. Discovery Gardens is near Ibn Battuta Mall and Metro Station and DG does have a bus service to there. A short metro ride to the Marina and JBR area. Eating out costs can vary widely from 20 AED to 600+ AED for high end including alcohol. There are plenty offers and discounts and ladies nights which can reduce your costs.

Congratulations on getting through your treatment and the best of luck with your move to Dubai. Medication and check ups are available here but please make sure you have good health insurance that will cover the costs. Good company insurance policies should cover pre existing conditions, but def not all and most personal polices won't cover unless you declare and pay a premium for it to be covered. I'm on Femara not tamoxifen and it costs 1036 AED almost £200 per month. I have good global cover so I choose to go back to uk for my treatment, annual check ups etc and arrange my trips home around them appointments. There are some good breast cancer specialists here so if you choose to have check ups you'll have no trouble finding an expert.

One of the best Sunday Roasts on a Friday has to be Fibber Magees Roast Beef Dinner and one drink for 55 aed. They also offer a mean full Irish Breakfast for the same price. Not a fancy place but the quality of the food is hard to beat. My only gripe is I find the veg a tad on the cold side, so I usually mention I'd like them a little hotter. one of the best cuts of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding in Dubai.
