Hi Styrene Oxide, For maternity and baby items, some great stores are Destination Maternity, Seraphine, Mothercare, Mumzworld (online), DbBabies, Just Kidding, Mamas and Papas and Babyshop. These cover a wide price range and stock a huge variety of items. 1. Peri Bottle - I think this may be called a sitz bath in Dubai but I haven't seen it anywhere (primarily as I wasn't looking for it). 2. Mesh underwear - available at babyshop 3. Organic soaps for baby - Available at the Organic Food Shop as well as online on Little Majlis (an etsy marketplace for Dubai) 4. Gender neutral baby clothes - almost none at Carters, so don't bother. Mothercare has a selection of greens, yellows, beiges, whites in different styles which works for both genders. H&M, Babyshop and Mama and Papas are also good. 5. Maternity clothes and nursing bras - Seraphine and Destination Maternity are my preferred stores. H&M, Babyshop and Mothercare have a few racks of maternity clothes that are not very stylish, in my opinion. 6. Sheep fur - sorry, no idea. But I would recommend the russian fur shops in the Naif area. 7. Just Kidding, DbBabies and ELC. For your daughter, perhaps you would like to take her to Glow Garden at Zabeel Park. And the Snow Park at Mall of the Emirates. The Mattel Play Town at City Walk and The Underwater Zoo at the Dubai Mall Aquarium. May I recommend that if you're planning to do a lot of shopping, please get the loyalty card from the shops so that you can collect points from the get-go. To make the most of your visit, please check the offers that Visa and MasterCard offer for food and entertainment places in Dubai. Lastly, please consider getting The Entertainer for BOGOF food and leisure attraction vouchers.

Hi MamaZita, I delivered in Medcare in November 2016 with an external consultant doctor who has her own clinic - similar to yours. In terms of insurance, all my pregnancy visits were fully covered. However, for my delivery, the insurance only covered AED 10,000 for Medcare including 3 days stay for a c-section so I had to pay a AED 5,000 for my doctor's consultation separately. This was reimbursed later by my insurance but is evaluated on a case by case basis. The hospital itself was great and I really appreciated the nursing staff in both the labor ward and the maternity ward and the baby's nursery. I had an emergency c-section at 38 weeks and unfortunately, did not have a birth plan. I would recommend that you discuss your birth plan with your doctor and also carry it with you when you go for hospital admissions. Please be super detailed, for example - if you want to exclusively breastfeed your child, you have to insist that you do not want them to give the baby formula while you are in the recovery room. Their rooms are a bit strange - they don't have hospital furniture but some kind of ornate furnishings - but other than that, spacious. They have a food menu thats bland as is most hospital food but ample portions, enough for you and one attendant. They provide everything for you and the baby after admission such as disposable panties, maternity pads, hospital gown, bassinet, formula milk. You do have to carry clothes for your baby and blankets. I was happy with Medcare as they accommodated me in an emergency when the hospital where I was registered (American) couldn't but for next time, I would explore Saudi German and Zahra too as many of my friends have delivered their recently and were quite happy. I would suggest to you to join the maternity tours of the hospitals that are covered by your insurance before you make a choice.

Hello! A male friend of mine who was born Muslim but not practicing has expressed interest in learning more about Islam. As a girl I can naturally not teach him how to pray, et cetera and was wondering if a center exists where he can learn basics of Islamic practice and perhaps purchase/borrow some literature in English that is specifically aimed at teaching those with little/no prior knowledge of the faith. TIA

I do end up tipping for both take-out and eating on premises generally. The amount of tipping of course varies according to the service provided. However, a couple of weeks ago, some friends and I went for breakfast at a Cafe here that had absolute rubbish service -- The servers kept on ignoring our raised arms or saying that the other servers would attend to us and we only got our cutlery, and most of our breakfast by walking up to the coffee/pastry bar area .. and for the first time in my life, I left zero dirhams in tip because I was genuinely upset that they ruined this hangout with my friends but I have been feeling guilty since then :(

Remember seeing some at a book fair (perhaps Sharjah Expo) some while ago --- Photographs, not paintings though Another idea is to get something commissioned .. I know Art by Arale (you can search for her on Facebook) does a great job and can customize colors, objects, et cetera to your liking - not sure about her pricing though

[u'>Dubai Festival City[/u'> [b'>Nishat Linen[/b'> (most traditional but also the cheapest formal wear of these three), [b'>Khaadi [/b'>(mid-range but have more modern cuts), [b'>Mumbai Se[/b'> (more cocktail) Also, in [u'>Ibn Battuta Mall[/u'> [b'>Brands Just Pret[/b'> - a multi brand store that stocks many smaller designers. You could find cheap cotton (as well as the more expensive Egyptian variety and lots of trim options at Satwa - which is in Bur Dubai. Alternatively you could head in the other direction .. there is a thriving market behind the Sharjah Cinema where you would find everything you need and at a slightly cheaper price point. HTH

New Look has BOGOF on all footwear sale items. I got two pairs of party shoes - together they cost me AED 90. Like in all New Look sales, quality was questionable so I had to search a bit until I found non-scuffed heels but honestly, at AED45 a pop .. These shoes could be disposable and I'd still be happy I got mine at New Look, Ibn today and they had quite a selection left. I even wore one pair of pumps out today and got many admiring glances :D

Went to NewYorker in Ibn today and they had good stuff at good prices. Got a bunch of infinity scarves for AED 29 down from AED 55 (I know this is the Original Price as I've bought from them before - hate shops that fake Original Prices on Sale Tags!) Also, got myself a couple of nice stretchy colored skinnies from there: one for AED 79 and another for AED 55

Again??? Why?!? We visited Dubai for a few weeks prior to moving here and rented a car. We had no lay of the land and used a GPS. It automatically wanted us on SZR for all trips. Our Salik bill was HUGE!!! Now that we know the roads we spend less than 10dhs a month! edited by Coriander on 06/12/2012 Saving on Salik does not mean an overall saving -- since Sheikh Zayed is the direct point between many of Dubai's landmarks, trying to avoid Salik often increases the fuel cost I personally think its a very smart move by RTA. Sheikh Zayed is ridiculously congested in rush hour traffic and half of those cars seem to be taxis and half of those taxis are not even carrying passengers -- at least this way, taxi drivers will be deterred from using Salik roads when they do not have a fare paying passenger <em>edited by em2san on 25/12/2012</em>

OP, when you say before your Entertainer vouchers run out .. Do you mean in the next 10 days? Because its far too cold for waterparks specially with young kids. My friends and I ventured to Wild Wadi a couple of weeks ago and we were shivering with cold within 2 hours as we walked from ride to ride (bear in mind, Aquaventure has a lot of walking!) and we all came home with raging headaches and impending flus

Koton and NewYorker (both in Ibn Batutta) have a really good selection of modern print hijabs with fun detailings. I got a khaki infinity scarf in cotton with black stamping and neon orange piping that is great with casual denim wear. ETA -- They are in the AED 60 range. Usually cotton material and are both wide enough and long enough to provide ample coverage! <em>edited by em2san on 20/12/2012</em>

From the GulfNews review [i'>"There are few places that celebrate the wide reach of Arab culture as well as this hotel on the far reaches of Dubai. It’s worth the visit for an iftar where everything is full of flavour, with dishes reaching from India to Sicily and the Arabic classics done well too. Iftar is served in Al Bahou, the great hall of the hotel, under the giant lanterns, where numerous food stations are set up alongside round tables. My only gripe is that the dining areas were darkened a little too much in the name of atmosphere. The food and the service (the all-important water pouring and clearing of used plates that can make or break an iftar) is worth spotlighting, however. Try the Morroccan harira for a hearty, rich soup that will calm even the fiercest hunger; the lamb shank tagine from the same country is a dish of tender meat and sticky prunes, soaked up by couscous. An Italian pasta came with seafood in tomato sauce, a light option for those who don’t want to over-indulge, while the Arabic mezze are well-executed and presented in a modern, pretty way. There’s a vast selection of desserts too; the Turkish delight and mini walnut-caramel pies are a don’t miss. *Iftar is Dh150 including juices. Call 04-4445613."[/i'> Read from the source [url=http://gulfnews.com/life-style/food/iftar-of-the-day-ibn-battuta-gate-hotel-dubai-1.1052026'>here[/url'>

Thank you for all the replies. I have a few questions: 1- Is "Bare Minerals" a brand or is it actually bare minerals i can find from any brand? 2- If i can't get bare minerals, what other foundation do you recommend? 3- If i want to conceal the darkness under my eyes, do i apply concealer under the foundation? 4- Do all brushes have the same names/numbers or do they differ from brand to brand? edited by D-J on 31/07/2012 1. bareMinerals is the name of an actual brand 2. Best idea would be to drop in Sephora, Dubai Mall and try a few different foundations on your wrist then walk around the mall for a couple of hours and see how they stand up to the time test 3. You can apply concealer under the eyes to conceal under-eye circles however I like to get concealer wheels as they have different concealer for under-eye, red spots, et cetera 4. Make up brushes numbers differ from brand to brand. If you're not a make up addict - you only need a few basic brushes to start with: foundation brush, concealer brush, powder brush, bronzing brush and 3-4 eye brushes

thanks for the replies! But strange, my friends always had the social package of 49 dhs and there was no promotion when they availed it and it works for them plus they have the wasel account. Hmm.. When I say avail -- You know how the bb package has to be renewed every month. Well, Etisalat had this promotion for a fortnight (I can't remember WHY) and if you renewed your social package in that period .. You could have a certain amount of internet browsing (including whatsapp) free for a limited period.

Hi! I have a blackberry torch 9800 and have the basic social package from etisalat. Does whatsapp work on this or do I need a Wi-Fi connection? Called the etisalat blackberry helpline and they stated that they dont deal with whatsapp! It does work for a friend of mine without WIFI and on the same basic social package but they have a different blackberry model. How do i make whatsapp to work? help :S Late 2011, Etisalat had a deal where if you signed up for social package (AED 49) then you could have the privileges of the basic package (AED 99) for a limited period. Only the people who availed of this deal can use whatsapp on their social package. Otherwise, either you pay AED 99 / month for basic package. Or you only have access to whatsapp on wifi.

I think the UAE has bent over backwards to accommodate Westerners when compared with other Gulf countries. We have churches here, can drink alcohol, we are not forced to wear abayas etc. I don't think anyone on this forum would want all those freedoms taken away. It does cut both ways but then I consider my home country to be extremely accommodating to other cultures too - in London there are places of worship for every single religion, you can wear whatever you like and we enjoy freedom of speech. To be fair it's reached a point now where the UK government don't want to offend other cultures so things like Christmas carols are no longer the norm at lots of primary schools and generic holiday songs are sung instead! I could go on to say how loads of communities in London don't integrate, there are entire schools purely of children from specific countries where the main language is X not English. The point is - this happens all over the world. In any case - I think the whole respect issue isn't about how women respect themselves, it is about respecting your host country, be that in how you dress AND how you behave. I applaud the arrests of drunk people, those having shenanigans on the beach etc as this should not be tolerated. The laws are enforced so we can live with the freedom of safety, not being raped / robbed / mugged etc. Clothing is more difficult to assess, since one person's view is different to another's in terms of respectful clothing. I was in the Tasjeel yesterday and there was a lady in there with a see-through T-shirt and the tightest denim short shorts you could imagine. I felt uncomfortable so can't imagine how all the local families would have felt, during Ramadan! Hence the dress code (knee length, shoulders covered). I do on occasion wear strappy tops, and skirts just above the knee, but in places like malls and supermarkets always bring a cardi. Not passing judgement, but I do think there are certain nationalities who dress more sl*tty than others and have less respect and it does annoy me as it displays a certain level of arrogance and disregard of the locals. As for being a beach destination - what's wrong with covering up when you get off the beach. As soon as you step off the sand on JBR, it's time to cover up (if not before!). A/C is everywhere, there is very little outside walking that necessitates skimpy clothing. Personally I think its residents over tourists who continue to dress disrespectfully. Nicely put.

If it's just simple trouser shortening, the best answer would be 'Wundaweb', you simply iron on with a hot cloth and boom, trousers shortened with no sewing required .You can pick this stuff up in most supermarkets. However, if you definitely wish a tailor to do it, most dry cleaners offer this service and there are lots in JLT. Hope that helps. This sounds lovely ... Would you be able to recommend a specific supermarket in the New Dubai area?

Yes, it's definitely time to pay a visit to Feline Friends! desertprincess, if you haven't dropped by FF yet, would you consider adopting Dalma .. She is an approx 2-3 month old kitten that we rescued from Rigga Road at midnight. She's a friendly little thing and was traumatised by the roadworks in progress there. She snuggled in our lap the whole ride home without a complaint but fell to her food and water so I don't think she was faring well in Deira. My flatmate and I already have 2 cats and cannot keep another. The kitten may/may not be suitable for multi-cat homes -- She is a teeny thing but able to stand up for herself. Dalma is for FREE however obviously you will have to pay for her micro-chipping and vaccinations at first vet visit. I am really upset. The CV is your passport to a job here so you really need to perfect it according to ME standards. Tailor your CV so that it reflects only the job experience related to the vacancy that you are applying for - Admin experience On your cv, do you mention that you have a valid driving license and visa and NOC from your husband? Make a cover letter and explain that you have other job experiences also in Finance/HR. In the cover letter, be clear that you can start work immediately and that you are flexible about work timings and location and that you are willing to negotiate on the salary.

Have you ladies considered the possibility that there just aren't that many jobs out there? Dubai is still very much in the thick of a financial crisis That possibility is not limited to just Dubai -- I think there is a dearth of jobs worldwide. The good news is that if you are sponsored by your husband, you are in a better position to find a job than if you were looking for a company to sponsor you.
