Second Fairy Dust. Dr. Terry Wahls was diagnosed with MS and was wheelchair bound, she has completely reversed her issues, and goes mountain biking now. You can watch her talk on Ted Talk. Her diet and what she advocates includes: 3 cups of green leafy vegetables, 3 cups of sulphur vegetables, 3 cups of colored vegetables every single day, along with grass fed meats and free range poultry and eggs. This is a sensible diet for anyone anyway. It does away with grains and sugar and processed food, but you could be sensitive to something else too. Your doctor can order a food intolerance test. Or you could try Elimination diet, in which you write down every single thing you eat, record your poop- number of times, consistency, accompanying symptoms if any- ex: abdominal pain, record your mood- irritable/crabby/happy etc. every single day, till a pattern starts to emerge. It's tedious but it is more accurate than tests. You can also record your pulse after you eat- higher pulse usually means the food does not agree with you. Once you identify the foods that are disagreeing with you, you take them out of your diet for a period of 3-6 months. After that, one by one, start to reintroduce them and record any reactions. This is called provocation. There are several resources available online for Elimination provocation diet. Or you could simply take out these- gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, sugar, corn, peanuts which are considered common allergens. Or if you are dealing with autoimmune issues, you can go Paleo or even better, AIP- Autoimmune Protocol which is very restrictive but completely restorative and healing. But diet needs to be supplemented with attention to gut microbiome, infections like lyme or bacterial infections, gut disbiosys which causes SIBO- small intestinial bacterial overgrowth- classic symptom: bloating, mineral imbalance and deficiencies, hormone imbalance and deficiencies. From an article by Chris Kresser: "The 8 core pathologies that underlie all chronic disease: I believe that virtually all diseases and symptoms that we experience are caused by one or more of the following 8 core pathologies: 1. Gut dysfunction. Includes small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), infections (e.g. parasites, pathogenic bacteria, viruses), low stomach acid, bile, and enzyme production, intestinal permeability, and food intolerances. 2. Nutrient imbalance. Includes deficiency of nutrients like B12, iron, folate, magnesium, zinc, EPA/DHA and fat-soluble vitamins (most common), and excess of nutrients like iron (less common). 3. HPA axis dysregulation. Includes regulating the communication between the hypothalamus, pituitary, and adrenal glands, and balancing the production of hormones associated with those glands (e.g. DHEA, cortisol) 4. Toxic burden. Includes exposure to chemicals (e.g. BPA, phthalates, etc.), heavy metals (e.g. mercury, arsenic), biotoxins (e.g. mold/mycotoxins, inflamm), or impaired detoxification capacity due to nutrient deficiency, GI issues, or other causes. 5. Chronic infections. Includes “stealth” infections by tick-borne organisms (e.g. Borrelia, Babesia, Bartonella, Erlichia), intracellular bacteria (e.g. Mycoplamsa, Chlamydophila), viruses (e.g. HHV-6, HPV), and dental bacteria. 6. Hormone imbalance. Includes hormones associated metabolism (e.g. insulin, leptin), thyroid, and gonads (e.g. estrogen, progesterone, testosterone). 7. Immune dysregulation. Includes autoimmunity, underactive immune function, and chronic, systemic inflammation. 8. Cellular dysfunction. Impaired methylation, energy production, and mitochondrial function, and oxidative damage. https://chriskresser.com/why-we-get-sick-and-how-to-get-well/ For SIBO: http://www.siboinfo.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piHbr1dhymM

For anyone interested, anyone battling mysterious illnesses and being shunted from doctor to doctor, being called a hypochondriac or worse, a liar, watch this documentary made by Dave Asprey. Toxic mold can damage your brain, your nervous system and your body functions. The symptoms are many and varied and doctors are not aware of their connection with toxic mold. https://moldymovie.com/index.

I found these, not sure if they will be helpful. http://www.yellowpages.ae/l-df-01-02-00001178-holistic-dental-clinic.html http://drmanafagha.com/holistic-dentistry.html http://iaomt.org/ Sorry, the last 2 really are just more of informative articles. I see a lot of these doctors are based in the US. I do hope we can find one here. Here is one doctor though: http://silla.ae/5536/christian-sobek And another : http://binarabdental.com/dr-thomas-horch/ Please do your research before going to any doctor here. There are many who are the fly by kind and may not be all that they claim to be. As far as I know, Dr. Madhu is a conventional dentist, not holistic. If I could, I'd go to a biological dentist. I don't know if 'holistic' and 'biological' are the same thing though. P.S. I just did a search, so I don't know if any of these doctors are actually practicing here.

VictoriaM, if you are a cycling woman, the best way is testing blood on the 21st day of your cycle. If you are post menopausal, it should be blood on any day. In answer to your question though, yes, Genova Diagnostics also does saliva s*x hormone tests.

Sounds like a class A Dbag. You don't have to insult people to get them into shape. Some people may enjoy being insulted, most don't. It is demoralizing and demotivating. Good on this woman to be calling them out for their despicable behavior. Obviously they have pockets bulging with wealthy patrons' money, but brains have been dropped somewhere. They should look for them. Their FB page is full of ridiculous nonsense. Hormones don't make you fat? Wow! Hormones are the number 1 reason for fat storage. There are people working out till their adrenals crash and burn but they don't lose weight, there are people eating clean and healthy but they can't lose weight, there are people doing both and they can't lose weight. The idea of 'eat less move more' has long been debunked. These idiots need to get up to pace with new research and stop spewing nonsense. <em>edited by Chocobella on 08/05/2015</em>

Lilypad, NDT is not available here. I get it online. There is no halal NDT as far as I know. There is a bovine one available, which is not likely to be halal either. NDT is definitely superior to T4 only meds as it gives you not just one component, but all components of the thyroid hormone. If you wish to talk more I can tell you some things for success before you go down the NDT or T3 route, everything I have learned on my journey. If you'd rather do your own research, read this website : http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/things-we-have-learned/ Saved my life as of many others. Good luck! edited by Chocobella on 24/02/2015

But she didn't sow what she reaped. You seem to have skipped over DT's inane insistence on picking on Chezmoi for her user name. She merely answered DT. So DT is allowed to pick on someone incessantly but those picked on are not allowed to respond? Since this thread is about dual identities, got me thinking DT is suddenly quiet while you come to her rescue. Interesting. <em>edited by Chocobella on 08/02/2015</em>

Had some returns issue, they do not do refunds, there is no written policy on returns. And it is eye-wateringly expensive. Mum2girls, I am glad you challenged my belief because now you and everyone knows more. Celiac and Hashimotos are so deeply interconnected that each might cause the other. Take the time to actually read these links: http://www.celiaccentral.org/thyroid/ http://www.todaysdietitian.com/newarchives/110310p52.shtml http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2111403/ Not all Functional Medicine doctors are acupuncturists or give out supplements. Autoimmune disorders need more than conventional medicine. That is why I was sending an 8 year old girl to a medical doctor who is trained as a Functional medicine doctor, because Functional medicine addresses autoimmunity, conventional medicine doesn't. <em>edited by Chocobella on 18/01/2015</em>

Sandfly, I agree, there are good and bad in all streams of medicine. And I agree people do get duped when they are desperate. But to say the doctor I am telling the OP to go to is 'inappropriate' is grossly wrong. This is a medical doctor, 'trained' in Functional medicine. Their focus is 'Food and.what it is doing to us, how it affects us", especially with regards to chronic conditions. They get to the 'root' cause. Which conventional doctors as a rule do not. Autoimmunity needs a functional practitioner because it needs the 'functional approach'. And all conventional doctors I have seen only wanted to give medicines, I never got an answer to 'why'. Functional Medicine gets you to the why, and starts healing from there. When you go to an endocrinologist for a thyroid disorder, he will look at your thyroid numbers, possibly only at irrelevant numbers because that is what they have been taught, give you a script of T4 and send you home. Functional Medicine doctor will know, and tell you, that thyroid, adrenals, *** hormones are interconnected, that they do not function independently, therefore just treating the thyroid is not going to give you relief from over 300 symptoms of Hypothyroidism. He/she will also tell you that the thyroid makes T1, T2,T3,T4 and Calcitonin. T4, popular treatment favored by endocrinologists, needs to convert to T3, the "Active" form of thyroid hormone, that needs to get into your cells for your body to function optimally. T4 is inadequate in most people because you may or may not convert T4 to T3. So you may need T3 in addition to t4. Then there is the issue of Reverse T3. Will a conventional doctor get into these details with you? Highly unlikely. If Functional Medicine Doctors were 'inappropriate', do you think you would have a clinic like DNA health established here? You mean to say these medical doctors, who after completing their medical degrees, are then trained to get to the root cause of disease and are helping thousands of patients left untreated or undertreated or indeed, 'inappropriately' treated by conventional doctors, are thugs? Conventional doctors KNOW what they are doing: putting "band aids": you complain about fatigue, they tell you exercise more, you tell them about depression, they send you to a psychiatrist, you tell them about internal trembling, they tell you it's in your head, you tell them about palpitations, they send you to the cardiologist. Can you not see where conventional medicine has left us? People have been put on 30-35 scripts, and they are still not well, given antidepressants when what was needed was correction of *** hormones. People have been made out to be having heart issues when they needed thyroid hormone. And have you seen any doctor address autoimmunity? Never. It is the model of conventional medicine that is the issue, not the doctors. Because Functional medicine doctors are these very same conventional doctors, who have chosen to get trained in a different model of care of the sick. <em>edited by Chocobella on 18/01/2015</em>

You need to read a lot, A LOT mum2girls. http://hypothyroidmom.com/300-hypothyroidism-symptoms-yes-really/ http://primaldocs.com/opinion/zonulin-leaky-gut/ The fact that you say, "other than hypothyroidism, which is probably the least serious of all the autoimmune diseases out there," shows you have ZERO idea about autoimmunity. Did you know Untreated or Undertreated hypothyroid condition can lead to miscarriage and heart failure? Do you know Hashimotos is the CAUSE of Celiac disease? <em>edited by Chocobella on 18/01/2015</em>

Dubai Diva, if you are new to autoimmune disorder, read these links: http://www.thepaleomom.com/about-sarah-2 http://www.thyroidpharmacist.com/author.html http://terrywahls.com/about/about-terry-wahls/ Please also know, once you develop an autoimmune disorder, there is a strong likelihood that if it goes unchecked, you will develop others. Please take her to a Functional medicine doctor, they are the ONLY doctors who know how to treat this, or ANY health issue. I had Hypothyroidism for several years, I had no idea what Hashimotos is, because the 'Endocrinologist' didn't BOTHER to check. Why? Because they are NOT equipped to deal with autoimmune conditions, so they don't bother to check for them!! 90% of hypo or hyper thyroid conditions are caused by autoimmune conditions Graves and Hashimotos. When I was going to see my first Functional medicine doctor, I was worried because I wanted to talk about my disease, understand how to put myself into remission. My experience with conventional doctors was that they get upset if you 'talk' to them about your OWN health. That they want to hand you a script and see you off. This is what I was told about Functional medicine doctors: "He's a Functional Medicine physician - he gets it. You won't have to educate him. Go prepared and he'll be glad you did your homework. Most Functional Medicine physicians are great team mates." Team mates, not "I am the doctor, you are the patient hence you are an idiot, hence I will not talk to you about your own health".

Really Sandfly? And that is why they have practioners in Functional Medicine working here, right? Even establishing a whole clinic? You have NO CLUE what "medicine" is. When you get an autoimmune condition, and conventional doctors make you run around in circles instead of giving you answers and putting you on the path of recovery then I will talk to you about "Evidence". 'Medicine' is not the focus of Functional practice unlike conventional doctors, nutrition and finding and treating the 'root cause' is. <em>edited by Chocobella on 18/01/2015</em>

Dubai Diva, I would suggest, no, request you take her to a Functional Medicine Practitioner. Functional medicine doctors are trained to find the cause of any disorder rather than giving band aid solutions. Autoimmune disorders begin because of leaky gut, the gut microbiome is the basis of good or bad health. Diet is a HUGE factor in putting Autoimmune disorders into remission. This is something conventional doctors do not follow, as they are not equipped to deal with autoimmune issues. They will likely give her drugs to suppress her immune system which will lead to further damage. Please do not go to an endocrinologist. They are the most clueless ones. Go here http://www.dnahealthcorp.com/news/view/341/senior-medical-faculty-announced-for-regions-first-of-its-kind-integrative-medicine-facility-on-abu-dhabis-saadiyat-island. Emma Ritz, I don't think you should delete your post. It's just how you are feeling right now, something that you need, see as desirable is not happening, that is what makes you write this. There's nothing to judge. I don't know your circumstances, but somehow I understand where you are coming from, perhaps because I have been in a similar situation, chronic illnesses made the simplest of tasks look huge, a body I did not understand and seemed to have a mind of it's own, fear of driving meant having a license for the last 8 years but never ever drove, I look at women who have the confidence to drive, look good, work, have resources to have the best accessories, and feel so sorry that my life passed me by. But eventually, I am happy, my happiness is my daughter, the light of my life, my husband who has taken care of me through the toughest times of my ill health. You are in a situation that affects you in a way that no one can understand. Yet some will. I wish joy finds you! And it will. <em>edited by Chocobella on 13/01/2015</em>

First, if you can, buy Miele. There is absolutely no dishwasher that can even touch Miele in design, performance and low noise levels. That said, I use Bosch/Siemens here, it makes a racket when in use and is a bit smelly, but cleans up dishes ok. We do use quite a bit of butter and oils, and I've not had an issue with cleaning of dishes. I don't wash or rinse dishes either, just remove any big bits of food and place them in the washer, never had a problem with either brand. What's the point of having a dishwasher if you must do half the washing? For Miele we used to use Finish gel and it was just fabulous. It did not work for Bosch though. We use Finish powerball all-in-one bars. They work fine. In case you are looking for an eco-friendly non-toxic alternative, I'd recommend this: http://www.iherb.com/Better-Life-Automatic-Magic-Natural-Dishwasher-Gel-Fragrance-Free-60-Loads-30-oz-887-ml/46165#p=2&oos=1&disc=0&lc=en-US&w=dishwashing&rc=293&sr=null&ic=27. I think if the shoe wore down so quickly you should get a refund for that pair as well. I had this situation at Biorganic store in Tecom. Asked their staff if I could come and return some stuff and they said I could for a refund. I went to return the stuff, while I was talking to the counter staff, the owner came over, and told me he cannot give me a refund. I told him what his staff had told me, and he said, no, he cannot. I asked if he could show me any written policy as there was none at the back of the bill, he said it was in his office. He was adamant he will only issue a credit note. I will be interested to know where I can lodge a complaint too. I will now stick to Organic cafe only, never had issues returning anything there within the stipulated time. I did not want a credit note also because Biorganic is WAY more expensive than Organic cafe, has clueless staff and rude and unprofessional owner. <em>edited by Chocobella on 11/01/2015</em>

I don't know which one is good but definitely steer clear of AXA. They have been nothing but trouble since I started with them. I had an issue for which I had tests done. In their incompetence or more likely deliberately, they could not get the clinic to give them necessary details and rejected reimbursement of the tests. They passed a procedure indicated by the same tests they had rejected. Since the information for the tests as well as the procedure was the same, they must pay for the tests as well! But there is back and forth going on for the last 4 months. Extremely deceptive company, don't touch it with a bargepole.

But you have got to know where to start. You need someone who treats the body as a whole, believes you have a say in your OWN health, chooses the best treatment for YOU, does not treat ONLY your thyroid, knows all connections of thyroid with adrenals, with heart, with s*x hormones, with brain function, with skin, with hair, with nails, with the food you eat and KNOWS that lab values have to be 'optimal', not JUST in range. Endocrinologists mislead, go by ineffective conventional methods, do not treat the body as a whole, make you feel like an idiot who should comply with whatever the doctor *thinks* is right, and has ZERO idea of the role of nutrition. They insist on keeping you on meds that rip your hair out, harm your heart and do nothing for your thyroid. They do not even test you for autoimmune issues because all they want to do is write you a prescription of Synthroid. They go beyond being useless, they HARM. Oh and emergency? Graves? Get the thyroid out. Nodules? Get the thyroid out. Goiter? Get the thyroid out. You have no idea how many people regret getting their thyroid out. I've suffered too long and see other people suffer BECAUSE of the holy Endocrinologist. So unless an Endocrinologist is EDUCATED in nutrition, can see how ALL my organs are CONNECTED and DO NOT work in isolation, sees that I am an intelligent life that has a say in her own health, I will never suggest someone goes to an endocrinologist. That website has information on hyperthyroidism/Graves as well. <em>edited by Chocobella on 05/12/2014</em>

These will be really helpful,as these are actual patient experience: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/search/graves The best way to go about any autoimmune condition is to see a Functional Medicine Doctor, who could be an Allopathic MD, a Naturopath, or a Chiroptactic. But I have yet to find one here in Dubai. Good luck with everything! <em>edited by Chocobella on 27/11/2014</em>

One more thing: AIP is not for life. You do it for a period of 4 weeks to 6 months, in this time your immune system resets. Then you gradually start adding back other food items from Paleo diet, but you might still have issues with nightshades. It is important to know that gluten and dairy might forever be out, and yet, some people have been able to add back some dairy to their diet after the AIP.

Graves2201, I have Hashimotos. You might know that it is the opposite of Graves. Diet wise, the most important thing to remember is that if you have one autoimmune disease, you are likely to have more. I have 4 autoimmune disorders. I eat paleo, but with confirmed Celiac and another autoimmune disease not yet confirmed but pretty obvious, I am preparing to go AIP. The best diet for autoimmune disease is Auotimmune Protocol, or AIP: http://www.thepaleomom.com/autoimmunity/the-autoimmune-protocol. This diet has been proven to be the most effective for calming your immune system as it completely does away with allergens and gut destroying foods. You could possibly eat goitrogens with abandon, and eat them raw, if you cook them the goitrogens are deactivated. There is unfortunately way more support for Hashimotos than Graves. Have you also had your thyroid panel done? Free T3, Free T4, TSH? Are you on any medication? Recently Dr. Amy Myers did an autoimmune summit, she herself suffered from Graves. http://www.amymyersmd.com/about/my-story/ I listened to most of the speakers in this summit, and every single one of them says: NO gluten and dairy. Read this website: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com Although Janie who started this website, does not have an autoimmune issue, this website is goldmine for all co-factors and comorbidities of thyroid disease. These are some links on Graves on this website: http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ I will try and find out if there is a group for Graves. Take care! <em>edited by Chocobella on 27/11/2014</em>

Hi Daza, if you mean buying products from EU, yes I do buy those, but generally do not buy processed foods. Di@DXB, I'm still trying to find a free app that works. One of them is valid in USA only, the others cannot be found in the App. But thank you so much! We shall keep looking!! :-)
