Sounds like a fantastic trip, particularly the motorcycle trip in Bhutan! My Father would have loved to do something like that. Please post back once you have done the trip, I would love to hear how it went. Safe travels!

Good luck Nobbles. Keep at them. We were charged AED10,000 for water we did not consume as we were out of the country for a month. Had an investigation completed by a maintenance company who said their meter was faulty. DEWA replaced the meter and hello, it's all back to normal. We fought them for four months, had our power and water disconnected three times as we refused to pay until they sorted it out. Made numerous trips to their HO and spoke to senior staff who basically said no use fighting it and to just pay. I was 4 months pregnant at the time and furious at their lack of customer service. Ended up paying the bill just to make the problem go away. Our normal monthly bill at the time was only AED400.00. They are absolutely hopeless and had the nerve for their customer service department to phone me a month later to see if I was happy at how they handles my complaint! Document everything and take the names of everyone you speak with

I agree with DubaiCat. My baby also started waking every 1 or 2 hours somewhere between 4 and 6 months. I was feeling very low & exhausted but thought it was a phase that would pass... in the end it carried on until shortly before his 1st birthday, when we sleep trained him. I was dreading the sleep training but it was so quick & easy that I was kicking myself for not having done it months earlier. If your baby has only been waking like this for a week, maybe give him another couple of weeks to see if he gets over it himself, and if not, consider doing something about it :) Yes he's only been waking like this for a week so I'm hoping one more week of it like the last time this happened. Fingers crossed !!

Lynney you must be exhausted, I really feel for you. I know there is another sleep regression at 6 months and again at 9 months. Maybe this is what our LO's are going through? I was really hoping to escape this one since we had the 4 month one. DC I'm trying to get an appointment with Cecile at the moment but I won't be back in Dubai for another week. I fully know he's relying on me to get him back to sleep as all he needs is two minutes at the boob and he's happy to go back to sleep again.

I started solids a few weeks ago so I don't think it's a hunger issue. I realize it's all part and parcel of having a baby and I never loose sight of the fact I have a healthy baby. Just finding things hard right now.

DS is just about to turn 6 months next week. He's always woken twice a night which I was fine with although like every Mum would love him to sleep through. We survived the 4 month sleep regression, two weeks of 1-2 hourly wake ups. Now, for the past week he has been waking every 2 hours and not settling without a quick BF. Tonight I have DH in there patting and sushing him to try get him back to sleep. It's been 30 mins so far and looking like I will have to feed him again. He's EBF as won't take a bottle. I am starting to feel so low and wondering if I will ever sleep again :-(

You are not the only one with a baby that doesn't sleep through so don't worry! I was just saying to someone yesterday that after reading all the posts on here I feel like my DS (5 months) is the only one that doesn't sleep through (I know thats not the case but feels like it!) DS goes to bed at 7pm and is dreamfed at 10pm. He then wakes again once between 1am - 2am. I've tried to pat and shush him back to sleep at this wake up time once. He did go back to sleep but only for one hour, at which point I then gave him a quick feed and he went back to sleep until 5am. He then wakes again at around 4:30am - 5am. If I feed him both times he will go back to sleep. He's up at around 6:45am - 7am every morning. Like your LO, DS also slept through the night 4 times when he was around 2-3 months but then started teething. He has two through now. Sounds like your LO might be teething also. My DS is always covered in dribble and has his hands in mouth. It's so hard to go back to no sleep when they have teesed you with sleeping through the night a few times. Sorry I can't be of more help, I would love to get my DS down to only waking around 5am. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone :) Just another thought - he's not too cold at night is he? I was reading somewhere if they are too cold then they move around the cot? I have mine strapped into a SafeTSleep at night because he's learnt to roll over but can't get back over yet most of the time. edited by 2Blossom on 22/06/2011

Kiwi - Awesome Rant. You rock and make me feel better. I am only 16 weeks preggers and I'm looking to you guys for all this lovely advice early on. Thanks so much ladies for preparing me for some more trials and tribulations that await me upon delivery of this bundle!! ;) Hey question: how many of you had skin to skin right after birth? for longer than 5 mintues? Do you think it helped or not with the BFing? Thanks all and good luck with everything. I wouldn't blame you for anything. You already made a miracle happen ;) DS had a bit of a difficult arrival so was taken to NICU straight away. He wasn't brought back to me for 4 hours but started sucking straight away. I remember saying to DH that I couldn't believe how DS already knew what to do...thank god one of us did! Kiwi - great post! Meals - you are doing a fantastic job and I admire your strength :)

I share your frustration! I've been trying to get DS (5 months) onto a bottle for months now. He was having one bottle of EBM up until 6 weeks when I gave up on it. Now he won't take one whether it's EMB or formula. We've tried it all, different bottles, teats, my sister feeding him, grannie, DH - all with me out of the room. Nothing works. Tried sippy cups as well which he will drink sips of water, but nothing else. DS also just seems to bite the teats and more plays around with it than anything else.

Every baby is different. It doesn't matter whether they are FF or BF, some babies will sleep through the night from early on, others will take a while before this happens. DS is 5 months, EBF and still wakes twice a night for feeds. He did sleep through the night a few times when he was 3 months old but then started teething, rolling over, trying to crawl, 4 month sleep regression etc. All these developmental milestones can have an effect on how your baby sleeps at night as does good daytime sleeping. I agree with Pentel, I myself wouldn't refuse an over 4kg baby feeding at night. Sunsa, from what I've read, so long as you are offering BM first before solids and leaving a gap like you are doing before giving the solids so your LO isn't too full.

I had this also in my 3rd trimester. The company I was working for moved me into another job (with about 2 months of work left, why, I have no idea?!) One day on the way to work I started finding it hard to breath, like someone was sitting on my chest. I started hyperventilating, feeling like I couldn't get enough air. My husband took my in to see the Dr. and she said it was because I was stressed about baby coming, new job position etc and advised me to finish work early. I only had one attack like that but previously had felt difficulty in breathing several times a week. I'm pretty sure looking back on it now it was because of my work and the fact that I had too much on my plate.

Definately night flight! We did DXB - Auckland with our 4 month old and the flight down was very unsettled. Cried, squeeled, screamed for nearly 10 hours. Flight back was a night flight and he slept the whole way.

I always watch for his tired signs and he's pretty much ready for sleeps anywhere between 1.5 - 2 hours. The first two he goes down no problem but the last nap of the day, 50% of the time he protests at. A friend brought me some teething powder down from the UK so we're sorted with that as well as stuff for his eczema which seems to be clearing nicely now. The other night I tried bringing him in to bed with me but I just can't sleep at all because I'm so paniced that I'm going to smother him by accident! At this stage I'm just getting up with him straight away and giving him a quick feed because I don't like to leave him to cry since I know he's teething / got eczema. I am a little worried though that this may drag on for a long time and when do I know that he's waking to feed out of 'habit' and not sleep regression?!

We just gave him some pamol before he went down tonight but he woke after 45 minutes. DH gave him 5 minutes to try and get through the sleep cycle by himself but he wouldn't settle so went in, picked him up and he went straight to sleep. I think he's getting worse!

Still the same Pentel. Last night was particularly bad. I tired to just PUPD for his second waking, he went down for 10 minutes then cried until I fed him. DH tried the next time with same result. He'll only settle if I give him a quick feed. He's waking anywhere from 1-2 hours now but rarely makes it to 2 hours. I'm sooooooo tired!! He's actually worse than what he was as a NB now :( Daytime sleeps are still fine though. And his first tooth has just cut through the gum, plus he has got eczema now to add to it all. Poor little man.

Are you from NZ KS? We just came back from there two weeks ago, and I'm so glad he didn't start this sleep regression while we were there. Staying with the in laws, I would have felt so bad him waking the whole house every 1.5 - 2 hours. I initially thought the time zone change may have been the cause but obviously not! Maybe ours will be an early crawler too!

KS I'm definately enjoying more interaction from DS. He is a wonder to watch, learning new things about his surroundings. I guess this is all just part of it! At least I know I'm not the only one in this boat. Just seems that none of my friends went through this so I was wondering if it was just me. I've decided to enjoy the night nursings while they last because he is just growing so fast and before I know it he won't need them.

Oh Pancake, you poor thing as well! I hope your DD settles again soon. It's so hard to go back to waking up multiple times a night when they start sleeping through. I used to look forward to bedtime because at least I could get some rest. Not so lucky now. I've taken to having daytime naps again and just hope this doesn't drag on for too long. Pentel thanks for the website. I had a good read of it this afternoon. I think I'm just going to right off the next year and prepare myself for no sleep because of these growth spurts, teething, developmental issues!

Not good :( I tried to pick up and just cuddle with the second waking but he wouldn't settle, just cried and cried so I ended up feeding him. He settles fine after a quick feeding. Was up 4 times last night. It's been 5 days now, when is this going to end?!

We have had scheduled naps for 2 months now and he self settles well without props or feeding to sleep so there is no concern in that department. Before this he was waking twice a night to feed which I didn't really have a problem with. He did start going through the night for a week before getting a cold and starting to teeth so it made it hard to have to get back up again. Just wasn't sure whether to feed him every time I got up or not. I am currently doing that just for a couple of minutes and he settles back down straight away.

Zoeesta, I am so sorry to hear you had to go through that! As if it's not daunting enough being a first time Mum to be, you really shouldn't have had to go through that. Whether you are non-local or not, no one should be treated like that at any hospital. I would definately send a letter of complaint. Hard as it may be, try and put the incident out of your mind and focus on the rest of your pregnancy. You're so close and don't need the added stress of thinking about it. Big hugs and I hope the delivery goes well for you xx

DS is 3 months and is almost at that stage now. He can get onto his side but not right over. My sister sent me a Safe T Sleep which we use over top of his sleeping bag. Puts my mind at rest! www.safetsleep.com Great idea! If your sis is from UK, do you mind sharing from where she got one? According to their website there's no stockist in UK anymore. TIA! We're from NZ, so she sent one up from there. I think you can order from Australia maybe?

Lolabug, you get 30 days to apply for the birth certificate. Will your husband be out of the country longer than this? Not sure if they are strict on this timeline or not. We had to submit original passports for our DS a few months ago. I know they already have your records, but this is Dubai remember!

Thanks ladies, We've requested bassinet seats on all legs of the flights and I'm just hoping he won't scream the plane down! I guess that's my biggest worry, if he gets unsettled for any reason and not being able to console him. He's been such a happy little boy up until last week and seems a little grizzly at the moment. Hoping it's just a growth spurt.
