Hello Sarah, thanks for your answer. we did book it in person at the agency and she send us the final voucher and offer by mail but never TC attached. According to what I know from my business experience if you do not provide TC with offer or sales then they do not apply but is it the same for travel? In Europe we have the organization regrouping and controlling travel agencies but here in Dubai I really do not know tried to research but so far nothing found thanks again A

Hello Ladies, Few months ago we have booked our yearly vacations and we chose to go to Sri Lanka. However seen the recent events where everything is flooded, people left without shelter and some got injured or even died we are no longer sure if it is safe to go there with the whole family. We are really looking for quiet holidays and not 2 weeks of trouble. I have contacted the agency and they want to charge me a huge cancellation fee. So my question is do they have a right to do it as there is natural disaster and travel may be risky or do they have to propose another destination (we are open to proposals no problem) Secondly they have never provided us with general sales and cancellation policy so are they not in the wrong? Anyone can help me? There must be some laws regulating such cases thanks so much for any help Agnes

My son is in WSO in year 12 he arrived only last year from Europe and did not speak much English, the school help them great deal now he is speaking almost fluent English and is one of the best in his year. I think WSO is great school and each time we had a problem we went to speak with them and they were always there to help the best they could. Perhaps you should just talk to the right people. In any case children adapt very quickly so surely your daughter will be happy anywhere she will go Good luck

Hello Ladies, Advise please. Me and my husband are both working full time. Our kids do not need nanny anymore so we do not have one, however from time to time there are days at school where teachers go for training and the school is closed or open just half day. Of course this becomes complicated. I would like to know if you could advice of any places where the kids can go and do some activities for a day here and there. Will greatly appreciate your feedback thanks Agnes

Hello already the full time jobs are very hard to find even when you have degree, I have both BA and MBA plus over 20 years of work experience and still no real good paid job.... Yes you can get some half time jobs like teacher assistant etc however if you have small children and you need nanny or school bus then it is not even Worth to get up in the morning as these jobs hardly cover your fees. If you want to start another degree here please be aware that the education fees are enormus.... Do not want to be negative but prefer to tell you the truth the job market here especially when you are a woman is no the easiest one, plus in some jobs you need to speak arabic, so not so easy Wish you all the best and hope all goes well A

Hello to All, We are also looking at moving there later this year when the further phases will be finished, I was just wondering if anyone can confirm that effectively you are saving lots on the DEWA bill and that there are no other charges. We are presently in Arabian Ranches and the charges and DEWA are huge here Thanks a lot Agnes

Hello, Here in Dubai you pay per piece and type so for example I use a service where a shirt washing and ironing delivered on a hanger will cost 6AED and just ironing 3 AED They will give you a list of prices for each piece so you will know in advance. They do everything and also dry cleaning. hope it helps A

Hello, We have been in the same case last year and I found it very hard to chose the school from a distance and just base my choice on what people say especially that there are always these that will be happy and others that will be not and so they will try to give you opinions that are not always very objectives. If you have a chance the best you could do is to spend few days here in Dubai and visit schools, go talk with people and have your own impressions. That is what we have done and I am happy we did. Also some of the schools to hich we did send requests never even replied which I found not serious but well as the demand for good schools here is higher than the offer it is just like this. We have two boys: one 16y in 12 grade we have put him in GEMs in Silicon Oasis which Ii think is very good each time you have a question or issue they are always there to help and the level of education is very good. My younger boy 6y in 1st grade is acctually in bilingual school (English-French) Swiss International Scientific School which is also very nice, so if you would like the bilingual concept I would advise this one. Wish you good luck with your search as it is important to chose well A

Hello we have moved to Dubai this year previously my son who is now in grade 12 (13 year system so 2 years left till the end) attended a Catholic European school were the level was high.He did well in his entry exams here and they did put him in IB. Previously he was always a top 3 student of his class and even school now with IB he does struggle a bit the approach is completely different and in some subjects like math and chemistry the level is very high. Socially it also limits his free time and his after school activities are almost in existent while before he did lots of sport. CAS activities that are required also take him a lot of time. At the same time I think it is question of changing the way of thinking and according to what is said IB diploma does open doors to many good institutions for higher education. good luck and if u would like more details let me know a

Hello Lysander, Was in the same case in the same place rented villa in Casa and garden not done, we had few of the gardeners coming and offering, this is the best as it creates competition, they are all fighting for work!!! it gives you a power to negotiate, and you really need to be careful it goes from simple to double. They are all around as soon as you move in they come ringing your door bell everyt, I can give you the tel number to the one that did our garden, if you want you can come by to see it is villa 95. Pls also be aware that you will have to put deposit at Emaar 6000AED for the landscaping permit, out of this you will recover 5000AED once they come to inspect and check that you did not dammage anything around the house. Plus plenty of paper work as you are a tenant. Let me know if I can help Cheers

Hi ladies I am thinking of moving to the Ranches. I currently live in a flat and haven't needed a car as everything is in walking distance - mall, supermarket, park etc. I also have a 1 year old. For those that live in the Ranches, do you think I would feel isolated without a car? I was hoping that in a villa with more space I might not feel the need to go out as much as I do now (nearly every day). Your thoughts? Hello, I live in the Ranches and to be honest I cannot imagine living here without a car. The shopping center is there but be careful everything is much more expensive and some of the things have not enough turn over so they are outdated. You can lways use a taxi but you will certainly feel isolated A

Hello, We have just installed a new free standing pool from Intex. Now we Wonder what is better and most importantly cheaper, fill it with tap water or bring a water tank to fill it. We need 17,000 liters!!! Can anyone advise what comes cheaper? Looking at my ater bill I think it should not be excessive but I worry about electricity as the pomp will have to be working for hours and we are already paying huge electricity bills. Any quick advice will be appreciated as our boys are so impatint to get into the pool now that it is standing in the garden thanks so much Agnes

Hi everyone Hope there is someone out there with some experience. We have family at home that due to family breakdown and illness can no longer take care of their 2 little girls. We would be happy to take care of them here in Dubai, but unsure if with full legal guardianship documents we would be able to get visas (husband is the sponsor) for them. Anyone with experience or advice? Many thanks! Hello Pointsettia, Not sure if it can help you but we have arrived to Dubai on my husbands sponsorship, I brough with me my son from my first marriage and my husband can sponsor him as long as we got the approval letter from the other parent (my ex-husband). We did this through a court procedure back in Europe (took about 4 months) then you need to get these documents stamped by ministry of foreign affairs and UAE embassy. Hope all goes nicely for you A

Hi ladies, I am having doubts about getting things delivered to my house in Dubai off the internet. I just ordered few things from Aliexpress and I´m not sure if I will get it delivered to my house. What can I do to try and find it ? Can I show an ID at Emirates Post office in Karama (main office) and they could find it for me ? '' I got a tracking number from China Post but It will only let me know when It is out of China. Anyone with experience in this ? I would appreciate your help! Thanks a lot ! S Hello Svalita, I did order from Aliexpress before and really had a bad experience. They displayed on internet that the goods were dispatched and I waited for months, then received partial delivery after about 2 months the rest never came so chated with the seller and he was trying to find all th excuses, fianlly asked to have my money back. Actually they charge your visa card immediately but the goods are not dispatched for months. As to the chinese post tracking number it is worth nothing as none knows to what it corresponds. They do have a lot of interesting items but I do not order anymore there Hope you will have a better experience, fingers crossed and let me know how it went A

I would love to meet up for coffee, if anyone fancies it. I wouldn't say I'm exactly shy but am when it comes to a bigger group lol Like previously said before, it's a bit hard to organise as you can't msg privately here. Not sure if it is allowed here but if we say we meet in particular place on a give day at given time and each of us holds something to be recognized, is it allowed?

The only time I ever needed an authenticated birth certificate was when I got married.. it was the only document I had with my father and mothers name, as that isn't included in my passport. Never needed it for employment. We are just inn the process of getting all the UAE residence papers for myself and the kids and we needed to have: kids birth certificates and marriage certificate stamped by the ministry of foreign affairs of your country and then by UAE embassy. As a wife your birth certificate does not need to be stamped as you have the marriage certificate. I understand when you say it is all costly, we paid 20 euro for each doc at the ministry and 60 euro for each doc at the UE emabassy, but this is still nothing compared to the cost of documents here, for the 2 kids and myself it was over 1000 euro, plus you better get it right the first time if they have to rewrite your doc you will have to pay extra. Hope it helps and good luck

Im hoping this is ok to post here... Good Evening All... :) Any suggestions? I am quite a friendly person but have been here for about a month and just not sure how to find a friendly face! I have a couple of friends that have moved to Dubai but they seem to make their friends through work. I work from home as well as being a mum to my lil ( well he's 7 now) man so not so easy. I used to live in Asia as an expat many years ago and made good friends who I am still friends with to this day through sites such as these. Is anyone else in my position? Or is it just me lol If anyone fancies a coffee and a natter next week, please do let me know! Thanks :) Hello Londonmum, Just feel the same as you, not so easy to be new here but still hoping things will come and change. Now also school started so I am trying hard to make friends there Also have a 6 years old boy so perhpas we could get together for the coffee, it would be a good beginning for us both :-) Let me know if you want us to get together for a chat :-) cheers Agnes

Salut Agnes, While I unfortunately can't help you with respect to specific information on schools in Dubai, I thought it may help you to hear that I was in the reverse situation to your son as an exchange student en Wallonie about ten years ago :) The only French I could speak was to say my name and count to ten, however I started in rhéto...and it was TOUGH. From having been a very confident student back home and a very high achiever, that first day was soul crushing. I too came home from school in tears having not understood almost anything, getting lost because I couldn't understand where they had told me to go for the next class, not being able to answer (or even understand) questions in class that I am sure would have been straightforward for me back home... That said, it's amazing how quickly things improve. I will say that the first two weeks were pretty awful but it is incredible how quickly your brain soaks up the new language. I was already understanding way more in that time without taking any French lessons on the side. Within a few weeks I was (slowly, badly) chatting with my classmates...although having a few Jupilers certainly helped (don't tell your son that part maybe!) and within a few months, I was actually participating in lessons. So please know that things will improve for your son, but it will take some time. The struggles of the first day/s are immense, but this will not last for long, although it does not seem that way now, I know. Also, I unfortunately didn't take any French lessons after school, but I should have, so I truly hope your son's school offers ESL classes, as this will really push him along. Bonne chance à vous deux ! Thanks for these kinds words now that he receives support it is going much better and so good to see some people that have been to Belgium :-)

did you try Georges Pompidou ? its in the academic city , and they do not discriminate my friend is qatari however they lived in France for couple of years , when they came back here they wanted to continue teaching their son in french i think they do have high school and primary however regarding the unpleasant experience am not sure if its a common thing with the french academics , i personally had a very very unpleasant experience at Sorbonne university , i applied for master studies in art  and the attitude of the french panel was really unpleasant and rude during the whole interview and they also told me i might not have a chance as priority goes to french people ! anyways when i received my rejection letter and i have asked them for a feedback the only reason they rejected my application is that i live in Dubai and not abudhabi so they had a concern about my commitment level  Hello the one I tried was Pompidou and to be honest I really do not want my children to go there :-( but since I last posted here things got much better, I went to see the people in school and they are so so nice they gave my son so much help and assistance and now the tears are gone and he is again a happy student even if still struggling a bit I also did my studies in France and it was not always easy you always remain a stranger even if I do speak fluent French, but well that is the way they are, so finally I did my Master in Belgium so much more pleasant!!

Thanks to all of you for the kind words, gives me some hope!! Well concerning the French school yes we did try at first but it is mostly for the French people, plus the french system is not exactly the same as the Belgian one so also trouble there , plus when I went to this school OMG the lady there was so unpleasant and she just told me ok pay the subscription fee we will see but you do have less than 50% chance to get in as you are not French, then we did not want to take the risk and we tried the other schools here at GEMs (that is where he is) they make him pass the exams and actually he did really well in the CATs and they new that his English is basic I contacted the school yesterday to see how to help him and they reacted immediately, have a meeting with them later this morning so we can see what help they can offer, I really hope it will work for him if not we will have to send him back home which means reorganizing everything as we also have a younger one 6 years old and he goes to the bilingual school here. It is all a bit scary and I hope so much it works out Thanks so much for sharing your expériences, really helps to be able to speak with people especally when you are here completly new:)
