Dear all...have been searching the expat woman forum in vain for information on where to get circumcision done for my DH (20 days old now) at both a reasonable price and place. The best option so far it seems is Zulekha hospital in Shj or Dubai(they do it for 600)...now the dilemma is they have either Hindu or Iraqi doctors...my husband is not very comfortable with non-Muslims as this is basically a religious ritual..and our experience with Iraqi doctors have not been that great(no offence is intended to anybody out there-these our just our personal thoughts. However if anybody has had a good experience at Zulekha it will help us to make our decision.. If anybody gotten the procedure done at any of these branches and can tell me about their experience it will be highly appreciated... Pleasssse help.. PS: or if anyone knows of a better place..please do tell...TIA Slakhani, My son was circumcised as a teen at the Iranian hospital. It was pretty painless my son will tell you, just a bit sore afterwards but only local anesthetic. They said they do many babies each day. Cost about 900AED a couple years back.

Apparently she got banned quite a while back, although I have no idea why. I don't know if she's just washed her hands of the whole place or come back and kept a low profile. She did get banned after 20,000 posts :-( Not a lot to really comment on right now though, is there? edited by QueenL on 12/12/2013 How on earth does a poster who has posted 20K's worth pf posts get banned? What on earth was it for? I think it says an awful lot. Spongemonkey is banned? whatever for? How can a person who posted over 20,000 posts be banned? I vote for Spongemonkey to have her account reinstated as a gesture of goodwill. Tattie, love it :)

Hi FrizzyBusy Glad the fridge works now. After your last post (and Eleanoras) I rang them up to complain about the high prices you both mentioned and to give better price, but the guy said for large fridges the compressor part is expensive, and they charge minimum on labour. Anyways I would still recommend them for repairs, they seem pretty reliable, do the job quick and you can haggle with them. :) <em>edited by Alismum on 12/12/2013</em>

I was chatting to my mum last night about this thread and my mum told me that when she used to run out of bubble bath after running a bath for us kids, she used to squirt Fairy Liquid in the bath tub instead ! I remember making fake beards and a bikini with the bubbles ! lol ! I doubt you will get the same effect with Pril ... Must try this again .. Ill have my Dynasty Joan Collins moment in the bath tub :P Thats a great idea, I must use this in the bath for my LO. Makes note to buy Fairy mint and tea tree silver bottle.

Thanks Redrec, I don't have to fret about a Christmas gift for the maid any longer, she'll be thrilled with that as she does worry about her rings. Hope she pop the gold bangles on there too! I would get her one for her bathroom as well, then you can put in some lovely tea tree and mint fairy liquid 'shampoo' and 'shower gel' like the one Mushypeas maid uses :) edited by Alismum on 08/12/2013 As it's Christmas , why not? Brilliant idea. And don't forget to get her the see through bottle, push the boat out a bit ;)

Did you know there is locally made Fairy (in the white bottles) and imported Fairy (in hte clear bottles) hence the price difference. I did always wonder why the major price difference, I buy the big white ones for work, the little clear bottles for home I never knew that, I have been buying the white ones. Anyone done a comparison, is the white one watered down then? Mushypeas, I remember those fairy soap bars. [url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2514604/Wash-hair-Fairy-Liquid-says-ex-model-JILLY-JOHNSON-60.html'>[i'>'Wash your hair with Fairy Liquid and scrub your skin with dishwasher salt,' says ex-model JILLY JOHNSON. 'At 60, I'm proof you should forget pricey products'[/i'>[/url'> Forget expensive weekly hair treatments. My top budget beauty trick is to wash my hair once a month in washing-up liquid. Yes, really. I found this out by accident a few years ago when I ran out of shampoo one day and, in desperation, headed for the kitchen sink. Astonishingly, it made my hair magnificently shiny and full of body. My hairdresser told me the washing-up liquid had removed the build-up of hairspray and conditioner that was weighing down my hair. <em>edited by Alismum on 08/12/2013</em>

and other equally gripping discussions....... The only mildly interesting thread today lasted 5 minutes... so, I like Pril for the nice fruity scent but it's a lot thinner so probably less economical than Fairy, the favourite from home... Discuss :D ha! ha! Hands that do dishes can be soft as your face with mild green fairy liquid. Fairy all the way for me, anything else is just false economy imho :)

How about we all let the decision makers in Dubai decide what Dubai needs to fix? Well, they're not infallible or omnipotent or all-knowing. They're only human, and they don't necessarily know what needs fixing. [b'>They need people like us making loud noises about the problems to direct their attention[/b'>. I agree, I think EW is like a mini think-tank. In fact a lot of what is written here may make it to Emirates 24/7 and who knows where it will go from there :)

Sounds like a good idea except if they want service charges paid before allowing a move as then tenants will suffer if the owner has any unpaid dues. Exactly. I can see many tenants handing over the cheques before realising service fees are unpaid. This idea that LLs will be forced to pay service fees when an NOC is denied does not make sense. By then, the LLs will be laughing all the way to the bank, and tenants will be stranded. In theory it may sound like a good idea, but can you imagine if you lost your job and had to leave in a month (extreme case, but does happen) and your landlord hasn't paid his service charges. What then? Where would that leave the tenant. This may put the onus on the tenant to chase the landlord before being able to move their stuff out. Looks like developers are looking at 'ingenious' ways to getting owners to cough up money for service charges and this is the latest one. <em>edited by Alismum on 25/11/2013</em>

FrizzyBusy, I'm not sure how much a compressor is but did you haggle with the guy at all before you let him take your fridge. We paid only around 250 Dirhams, but it was something to do with the thermostat on ours. My hubby drives a hard bargain though. When he brings your fridge back tomorrow tell him the price is daylight robbery and you could buy a NEW fridge for that, then offer him half that price..... Tell him a friend recommended him (after doing a good job at a low price on a fridge freezer) and if he doesn't charge you a more reasonable price then we won't recommend him to anyone else. He could lose a lot of business ;) Eleanor, 900AED for a plastic fan, that is way tooooo much, I won't recommend them anymore at prices like that. That job is couple hundred. Sorry ladies they were quick and cheap when they fixed our fridge a couple months ago. I was impressed and I thought they deserved to be recommended. from their website [i'>"Whilst we aim to be profitable, our staff and engineers are not incentivised to hike the rates up like some of our competitors. On the contrary, we have a fixed labour price and our staff are focused simply upon providing the best possible service". [/i'> [url=http://www.olxrepair.com/index.html'>link[/url'> ETA. Internet says a compressor is between 320 Dirhams and 920 Dirhams depending on the model. <em>edited by Alismum on 23/11/2013</em>

Asti, Did she already go through the menopause before her op? or has the op brought on premature menopause. What you are describing sounds like hormonal changes which can affect a woman going through menopause. I haven't personally had a hysterectomy, but 3 of my sisters have. I would say that hormonal changes coupled with having to deal with cancer can most certainly make a person cranky, angry, moody, selfish and a whole host of other things. Does this sound like your MIL [url=http://www.minniepauz.com/Seven-Dwarfs-of-Menopause.html'>link[/url'> [url=http://www.ladycareusa.com/images/7dwarves.jpg'>link[/url'> ETA. If she already went through menopause, maybe she could have anxiety and depression. Having cancer could most certainly make a person anxious and depressed which could result in the anger, moodiness (all the things you mentioned). Perhaps she could nip to the docs and explain her symptoms, maybe the doc could give prescribe her something to help with her moods and hormonal changes. . <em>edited by Alismum on 22/11/2013</em>

Wifeof777, I have had problems with my knees since a young girl (not as bad as some of you ladies on here mind you). I started eating half teaspoon of turmeric a day about a year ago. I hardly have any pain in my knees these days, not sure if it's the turmeric, but I don't take anything else. I use it in curries, stews or take it plain yogurt, I have never taken it in tablet form.

Ladies, Has anyone tried to incorporate turmeric into their diet http://www.subconsciousascension.com/userfiles/file/TurmericRemedies.pdf I have heard so many good things about turmeric and it's anti inflammatory properties. I already include it in most of my dishes. [i'>"Turmeric is considered an anti inflammatory herb. It is full of curcumin, which displays anti inflammatory properties similar to that of ibuprofen. Turmeric is much more effective than ibuprofen at treating autoimmune inflammation that's commonly found in autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis and uveitis. It is about as effect as corticosteroids, a very common medicine used in all different kinds of autoimmune disorders, with none of the unpleasant side effects. As an anti inflammatory herb, turmeric reduces swelling, and pain associated with autoimmune disorders. Turmeric health benefits go a step further than symptomatic treatment, however. A 2007 study published in "Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology" found that the curcumin found in turmeric actually inhibited some autoimmune disorders, slowing their progression".[/i'> [url=http://www.best-detox-diets.com/turmeric-health-benefits.html'>link[/url'> <em>edited by Alismum on 20/11/2013</em>

Hi Appletree, I haven't heard anything since last year either, nor do I know anyone who has one but saw this on [url=http://www.flashproperties.com/faq'>here[/url'> [u'>Property Visa:[/u'> If you own a property valued at AED 1 million, you are eligible to apply for a 2 year residency visa called Investor Visa at DNRD (Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs Dubai) by presenting the necessary documents. If the original purchase price was less than 1 million and now as per the current market value, the property is worth 1 million or more, the applicant must attain an evaluation letter stating the same from the Land Department. You need to provide Land Department a copy of your Title Deed against your property, your passport copy and passport size photo. The fees for this is AED 450 (Feb, ‘13). Upon receiving the required documents, Land Department will issue an approval.Once this approval is attained, the applicant has to go to Economic Department and apply for Trade License based on the same. Economic department fees is AED 2000/year for this type of Trade License. The applicant is now required to go to Immigration Department (located on the 1st Floor of Land Department). They will issue Investor Visa for 2 years and total cost of this will be around AED 20,000. <em>edited by Alismum on 14/11/2013</em>

[u'>Dubai IOAs' diktat: No moving homes over weekends[/u'> Getting apartment keys from the landlord won’t be enough to move into your new rented apartment. Facility Management (FM) companies, on behalf of Interim Owners' Association in some buildings across freehold communities, are ensuring that tenants have a no-objection certificate (NOC) to move into their leased apartment. The NOC is primarily aimed at getting rogue landlords to pay their service charges. “We have put up notices in all the buildings that an NOC is necessary to move in to any apartment. If the tenant does not show the letter, the security officials will not allow them to enter the building,” says a senior official of the top FM company in Dubai. “There have been instances where we haven’t allowed people to shift if the landlord hasn’t paid the dues. In fact, the move has helped us in collection as landlords pay up to avoid rental income loss,” he added. No noise please Majority of the people tend to shift houses on weekends. But some IOAs in Dubai are putting up notices informing tenants to give advance notice if they are vacating apartments on weekends. A notice has been put up by the FM company in a residential tower in Tecom, which states tenants will not be permitted to move out of their apartment if they haven’t notified them at least two days in advance. Besides, tenants have to pay a refundable deposit of Dh1,000 when moving in or out of a building. This is primarily to cover the cost of repair if while shifting common areas are damaged. “We had to introduce the new clause because we found those shifting create a lot nuisance and are least bothered to clean the common areas. We only allow tenants to move out if they have informed us about their plans in advance,” he adds. source http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/dubai-ioas-diktat-no-moving-homes-over-weekends-2013-10-31-1.526372

Here is a glance into kind of situations I am facing. My DD loves sucking her thumb. Knowing this an old aunt of mine tells me I should let her do that because it’s going to protrude her jaw. I do SNI (smile, nod, ignore). A few days later we bump into her in a mall, she sees my DD happily thumb sucking in her pram and looks at me like ‘Still’?? I tell her I read on the internet that thumb sucking is a good soothing technique till the age of 3-4. She tells me from her experience she knows that’s nonsense. I do SNI again. Two days ago she dropped by for tea and literally pulls my DD’s little thumb out from her mouth seeing her sucking it. I wish I should have shouted but I did SNI yet again due to the fear of offending this otherwise really helpful lady. In fact she took care of me for 3 weeks when I fell really sick during my pregnancy. I would just say something along the lines of. "I know it's bad but orthodontic dentists can do amazing things these days, so I am not stressed out over it", and smile. <em>edited by Alismum on 30/10/2013</em>

Three children. Still get advice. Enjoy parenthood! I have a soon to be 17 year old and still get advice (although not from my own family). :) I like the smile, nod and thank you for your input, sadly I have a bit of a sharp tongue myself and find it immensely difficult in practice ;) <em>edited by Alismum on 30/10/2013</em>
