Could these people be inlaws by any chance :) Tell them thank you for the advice, but you prefer to do it your way. You could also scowl a bit when you say it so they get the hint. <em>edited by Alismum on 29/10/2013</em>

Thanks for your kind words ladies. I think they may be looking into stopping the chemo, taking our her uterus and giving her radiation therapy if her platelet count doesn't improve before the next session. She's only had one session so far as well. I just worry that she doesn't look after herself anyway (eats very little) and the chemo has knocked her for six. She even ignored the nosebleeds thinking they were nothing to worry about, until she had to have an emergency blood transfusion. Have just had a look on the MacMillan website Beany and will pass on the information to my other sisters who are helping her (yes she's in the UK). Thanks for that. This will be a great help to her. <em>edited by Alismum on 27/10/2013</em>

Agree with Feefmick about the vitamin D, I don't have much hair loss these days. I bought a filter when I first came for fear of going bald, was so worried as I too had a hairy floor and pillow. These days I am around 10-20 mins 'most' days in direct sunlight, am sure that's something to do with it. I also don't have joint aches and pains anymore and feel less tired. <em>edited by Alismum on 18/10/2013</em>

Not really a faff to Iranians, as Iranian good rice test is to flick a fork about in a the plate of rice and for every grain to stand separately! :) The method you have mentioned is the "kateh" (which is even tastier) but its very easy for someone without experience to get it wrong, and it could come out all stuck together and mushy. Don't get me started on tahdig, I would kill for some just now :D Irooni did you check out this website. http://turmericsaffron.blogspot.ae/ It's the best Iranian recipe site I've come across. I made fesenjoon from her recipe the other day (when you mentioned it in the other thread) and my kids loved it. Didn't taste like sweet mud either this time :) I love tardig as well. Sorry to divert the thread cymraes :) <em>edited by Alismum on 11/10/2013</em>

I have a rice cooker. Wash and soak basmati rice for an hour or so. Place in rice cooker with water that goes up to knuckle of index finger. Add salt and tablespoon cooking oil. Leave to steam for 20 mins and voila perfect Iranian rice. If you like tardig (crispy bottom of rice) then cook it a bit longer. If you don't have a rice cooker, you can do the above method in a saucepan as well, but boil the water first then turn the heat down and steam for half hour or so. That's my foolproof easy Iranian rice. :)

Caspian in Barsha 1 (one can get off at Sharaf DG metro station) and their other outlet is in Bur Dubai (I don't know the name of the metro station but it is close by to it). I went to this restaurant in Bur Dubai once and tbh was a bit disappointed. It wasn't really authentic, didn't feel like an Iranian restaurant. It had more like a cafe feel to it, most of the waiters were Indian guys, and what we ordered was ok but nothing special. edited by Alismum on 10/10/2013 I do like the Barsha one as the food is hot and fresh, owners are there most of the times and I do enjoy their Friday and Saturday lunch buffet as kebabs are frehly prepared and brought to the buffet and one can also request for fresh hot kebabs and breads on the table. I would not know much about the Bur Dubai branch. edited by NikitaD on 10/10/2013 edited by NikitaD on 10/10/2013 I will definitely try the Barsha one sometime then, as it's close to me :) <em>edited by Alismum on 10/10/2013</em>

I really urge, all non Iranian to stay away from FESENJAN or FESENJOON, it really isn't the best dish you can try. It is definitely an acquired taste and not something you can just try for the first time as an adult and enjoy! ;) It is not even a favourite among most Iranians, including moi! On the other hand, my children love it :) Not my favourite dish either Irooni, a bit like sweet mud ;) Izzy it's chicken and the sauce is made from sugar, crushed walnuts and pomegranate purée. It has the consistency of mud (well it does whenever I've made it ;) [url=http://familyspice.com/recipes/recipe/?recipe_id=298'>link[/url'> <em>edited by Alismum on 08/10/2013</em>

When I first came here I had hair loss as well. It came out in handfuls, although I never really noticed it thinning anywhere. My floor was covered in hair all the time, also my pillows.. I had a maid as well who came from Nepal and her hair fell out as well, we often chatted about who would go bald first :) My teen also started to lose his hair as well. Nowadays (6 years later) my hair hardly falls out, either I've adapted to the climate, or it's because I go out in the sun for at least 5-10 mins a day to replenish my vitamin D levels.

Agree with EmmaRitz, I try to be a considerate neighbour but my little boy runs rings around me literally. He's like a jumping bean, constantly on the go (mind you not at 3am, my LO is in bed at 8pm). I also have a little elephant living in the apartment above me, so I guess this is how it must sound to the neighbour below at times ;) Good job the neighbour below is my friend and has 3 of her own little elephants. :) ETA I have no objection to any of my neighbours asking me to be a bit quieter at all if they were disturbed. I know all the neighbours on my floor and the floor below. <em>edited by Alismum on 03/10/2013</em>

Strange but this this guys cellphone turned his oven on? Have you bought a new smartphone recently?? [i'>Cellphones, which send signals at up to 3 watts, often create electromagnetic interference with baby monitors, computer speakers and car radios, so it’s not surprising that they might also affect an oven’s electronic controls[/i'> ???? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/23/nyregion/23about.html?_r=0 I really don't think there's anything supernatural about this, there's obviously a logical explanation, either someone is turning it on or it's got a faulty mechanism/short circuit..

I'm really concern about my hair :( I have a thick hair and always have been the one that everyone always envy me because of my hair. I know there have been many discussion about the hair fall and I have read them all. Two months ago I purchased water filter and was hoping for my problem to go away! But no change :/ So what is happening with my hair is that I still have thick and healthy hair BUT, the middle of my frontline right where the widows pick would be in an area of 2x2 cm in thinning out so fast I'm afraid that soon everybody is gonna notice that. :( [b'>This started since I got to Dubai or it MIT be because I'm getting older!!!!????[/b'> Has anyone experienced the same problem? What should I do? And whom should I see??? Ram I'm getting older as well ;) But I agree with the vitamin D. I try and get a bit of direct sun everyday (5-10 mins, even if it's just standing on the balcony) and have noticed that my hair hardly falls out now and I feel healthier to boot. I used to notice handfuls on my pillows a few years back and my plugholes were full. You could have a test to see if you have low vitamin D levels (very common over here), and if you can't get in the sun get a supplement from the pharmacy. But if you get the chance get out and about in the sunshine a bit now that the weather is cooling off and see if you notice a difference.

I agree entirely. They obviously have no self respect and [b'>I doubt the school Mums at home would dress that way on the school run even in Summertime![/b'> Really? You are talking about the country where on a sudden hot sunny day people will go into a London park in their lunch break and strip off to their undies with no compunction. That is London, however I am not from there so thankfully not subjected to this :-) I am talking about the summer of 1976, though, I would imagine such behaviour was to be found all over the UK that year! http://www.buzzfeed.com/robinedds/18-photos-of-the-uk-heatwave-of-1976 - I think Pic no 7 was probably taken at Henley Regatta! I cannot remember that far back haha I should think I'm the only one on this board at the mo who can! I am sure you aren't :-) ( I was 4 years old) I can't remember that far back either as I was a twinkle in my daddys eye ;) As for school gate chic, I think it should be dressing gown and rollers :) [url=http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1389181/Slummy-mummies-Parents-asked-stop-doing-school-run-pyjamas.html'>link[/url'>

I wondered whether there'd been an earthquake - didn't feel it but the metal cords for my blinds were tapping against the window frames for few mins and my glass of water had ripples in it, which is what happened with the last ones & means the building was moving a bit. This was near trade centre. Are you in JBR/Marina Hannah? My blind cords were doing the same thing, I even looked at them at the time wondering if the AC was blowing them. Lasted a couple mins. <em>edited by Alismum on 24/09/2013</em>
