Izzy, We take a teaspoon of turmeric everyday. I generally cook with it a lot, but on days where I don't, I put a spoonful in plain yogurt with a dash of pepper. It's an amazing spice, they are even looking into it's affects on reducing amyloid plaques (or prevention of) in those with Alzheimers. [url=http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-06hF74SmWtU/UaV8G6cI-kI/AAAAAAAABzk/KCnIqOke5hI/s1600/turmeric.jpg'>link[/url'> As for fresh, I have seen fresh root in Lulu. They also do turmeric capsules in most health stores if you don't like the tea.

Try this, and let us know if it works, I have heard ACV used for many things including varicose veins. http://danieltownsend.hubpages.com/hub/Apple-Cider-Varicose-Veins http://voices.yahoo.com/homemade-varicose-vein-treatment-cream-11293496.html edited by Alismum on 22/09/2013 I will try it! Just need to find some apple cider vinegar (not a normal purchase for me!). I will report back! Tania, I think you have to get the ACV with the 'mother'. (i.e raw, unpasteurised) You get it from Geant or Carrefour for about 8Dirhams. I have a bottle. It can be used for gout and arthritis as well. Firstly none of the schools my kids have attended have had water pipes (shattafs), except local. Secondly my kids have trained themselves to never need a No.2 at school, apart from emergencies. Thirdly they learnt to use them by themselves probably from about 3 years old. Oh, my...how can you train children not to need a number 2??? I'm curious. Never heard of such thing in my zillion years of parenting. :-) I have met parents who also told their kids never to pooh at school, only home.

He's 6. [b'>Teach him to wipe with toilet paper until it all comes clean[/b'>. No need for the water pipe. No need for help. He can do that already (in a fashion :) ), but I really want to get him used to using the pipe. My DH has this thing about ultra clean bums ( I'm sure there are those who know what I mean, say no more ;) )

I had a phone call from somebody working with the d*V*** Group yesterday (I only remember the name because of "To the Manor Born"). He greeted me as if I was his long lost friend, though I'd never heard of him, nor his manager who he told me I knew. He went away sharpish when I told him we had no money to invest and were looking for a loan to do up a property elsewhere :) I wondered where he'd got my details from - could it have been here? I talk about the same group, very posh sounding guy phones saying a Senior partner wanted him to call me...What a load of BS! He hung up so fast as soon as I said Im not interested.... I got a call from a company wanting to sell me insurance/financial advice on offshore investments last week. He knew my name and nationality as well and wouldn't take no for an answer. Said his senior partners name was Paul. Company beginning with P. is this the one you are talking about? (didn't see the earlier thread) ETA Simpleasabc, yep that's the guy who rang me. Talked to me like I was his long lost friend. edited by Alismum on 17/09/2013 No, this company begins with a D. Not this one then I guess [url=https://www.pic-uae.com/'>link[/url'>

Tattie, Our fridge (old but good make) packed up a while back with only the freezer working and twice we got some cowboys out to fix it, to no avail. So we called a guy called [i'>Naveed at Saleh Dbaie Electrical Equipment Repair in Satwa (all types of Electrical Equipment Maintenance Repairing and Servicing tel: 04 3313789 or 050 6781995)[/i'> and he took our fridge away, the next day brought it back and lo and behold it was actually working again, I thought we would have to buy another. So give them a call if you haven't already Tattie you never know maybe they can fix whatever you've got in your possession (80 years old wow!!!). Also this is a recommendation to anyone else that needs electrical repair jobs. You can negotiate with him as well. edited by Alismum on 14/09/2013

From here [url=http://www.marinafox.com/?content=newsmore&nid=34'>link[/url'> During our meeting with a Land Department official, we were advised that an owner of property valued over Dh1 million, fully paid and having no mortgage on it can approach the Dubai Land Department with a title deed, passport copy, passport size photograph and AED410 and apply for an approval to have residence visa. Within a month, the Land Department will issue an approval certificate which will allow the property owner to receive a trade license for a fee of AED2,000 (two thousand UAE Dirhams). After receiving the trade licence, the property owner can approach the Immigration counters located at the Dubai Land Department, which will require AED10,000 (ten thousand UAE Dirhams) deposit and medical report in order to issue a two-year investor visa. We were also informed that such visas will not be issued to the owners that already hold residence visas. So, we need to live and see how the above procedure will be implemented in practice.

Hi girls, My residence visa has been cancelled on the 14 th of august. I have to do the visa run to Oman, however I have heard from the consulate that it' s illegal to do visa runs. I am very worried about this since I was planning to do many visa runs. Could you please tell me what's so risky about it as there are many people doing it. I have another question: How can I get a residence visa beside having a job off-course. What are my options? Can I get a visa if I buy an apartment ? Hope to hear from you soon as am little but of worried about all of this. regards sara Is this a new rule?? which consulate is this? I did it for 6 months a couple of years back. I don't think they have passed the actually law that says that visa comes with property, although it has been in the pipeline for a few years now. An alternative would be to look to get a business licence. ETA. I wouldn't leave my new born alone with a maid who doesn't speak English. But I have to say that I had a Nepali maid a few years back, she spoke very limited English when she arrived, and after around 6 months of being with us she could communicate very well. She also cleaned very well, although I did have to show her with sign language in the beginning. I wasn't working at the time mind you, but my youngest was one and she came to help me whilst my husband was setting up a business and working all hours... she was a godsend to me at the time.

Mmmmm Not sure whether we have the same type of ants, but I have the same ones that Shaks mentioned below. In fact everyone I've spoken to seems plagued by them this year, they are coming in from the cracks in walls, each time you spray they find somewhere else to come in. I had a few in the kitchen, so I sprinkled bicarb soda on one of the cupboard shelves and for the last month there have been no ants in that cupboard. I am also trying boric acid as well in the bathroom, as I saw a few in there. I am off on hols in a few days and am dreading coming back to a houseful of ants. I have to say though that I have a cupboard full of Indian spices and the ants never went in there at all so could be some truth to the turmeric. :)

That's what is shows, but the truth is that there is a reason places in certain schools are so high demand. I dont think going to a particular school in the UAE would carry any weight with Unis around the world. [b'>A child would gain a place at Uni on individual merit rather than the school they attended[/b'>. Is true, I worked for many years in University Admissions (UK) and they were only interested in points at A levels/IB. The name of the school did not enter into it. Probably some schools over here are in demand because they push the kids more to get higher scores, and have better league tables when it comes to results. edited by Alismum on 08/08/2013

Hi, This time of year June-Sept, there are always more bugs around (everywhere). Last year I had a few cockroaches. I put boric acid down and they disappeared within a week. This year I had drain flies for a month, but they were caused by a leak which the person 2 floors up had. They have sorted the problem out now, and they have disappeared. The only thing I have a few of at the moment is very tiny ants that appear to be coming in the bathroom cracks in the wall. Other than that I have been in JBR around 4 years now and haven't had any other major infestations.

It all has zero to do with background, culture, nationality, age. Really has nothing to do with this issue! it all has to do with your spouse respecting your feelings and wishes. I find it very disrespectful if you choose to do something your spouse doesn't want or like you to do simply because you want to prove you won't let your spouse tell you what to do. @BlossomHill, as I said above it has nothing to do with you being a middle ages British woman. It has to do with respecting your spouse if they don't like you to do something. Highlighting a very small part of a bigger story makes you take my response out of context. not really - it's simple to me - I couldn't be with someone who thinks it's ok to tell me what to do or not to do, that's not what my relationships are about..Culture WILL make a difference, although we now know it doesn't apply in the OP's case..and if there are things that I like to do that my husband doesn't then you could argue that our relationship was flawed from the outset. Respect isn't the same as control.. [b'>No it's not control. If there is something that you do that your husband dislikes to much and you know it and you continue to do it that's disrespectful to him, and the other way around. And again, that has nothing to do with culture[/b'>. Perhaps the wife does not like his disliking of what she does. Would he then respect her? Really if it's such an issue to be considerate of your spouses feelings about certain things, and insist doing that exactly just because you can, I really can't understand that. [i'>Edited my bit about religion and mingling, don't want to get the thread deleted ;)[/i'> ----- To the OP Personally I wouldn't like my husband to be confiding in another woman, chatting regularly to her on FB. Taking another woman out to dinner.... Not on your Nelly!!! I'd be narked as well cos he never takes me out for dinner as it is, he doesn't have time. The only way that I'd find it OK would be if it was a business deal that he'd just sealed and it was a one off. If he was meeting a woman regularly on a more personal basis, then I'd have to wonder why, I trust my husband as well but I don't trust someone who is already having a relationship with a married man with children. Wonder why she cannot find a single man to confide in?? From your original post [i'>But what I need to add here is that she has a long distance relationship with a married man with children. If she is capable of this, who is to say she will keep her hands off,of my husband?[/i'> ETA Misoma, sounds like all you can do is wait until he gets back from his trip before you have a face to face discussion about it. Perhaps you can ask him how he would feel if the boot was on the other foot and if you started going out for dinner with male friends, would he be OK with that? edited by Alismum on 05/08/2013
