Maria, My teen suffered something similar at the beginning of Ramadan, lasted 2 weeks. He didn't vomit, just 'very bad' stomach cramps and occasional diarrhea. I gave him lots of drinks, a few abdominal massages (which seemed to ease the pain) and a hot water bottle. It went on it's own after 2 weeks. Sorry I don't know of any over the counter medicines if imodium hasn't worked. Have you been to the docs? Perhaps you can nip to one of the walk in medical centres, which area are you staying in? Hope you get well soon. edited by Alismum on 04/08/2013

The weather this year is amazing. Sitting outside last week - sitting outside today & there is a cool breeze!! Can't believe it's August. This has to be the easiest summer ever?? True Tattie, we go out and about regardless but I've noticed it is definitely a couple degrees cooler this year. Looking forward to this thunderstorm, must do a little dance to hurry it along :)

Burnsie, Is she your maid or a paid lodger? This maid is taking the mick.. Too right she should have cleaned the house and had food and a cuppa ready for you. Even some of the crafty ones take a lot of time off whilst madam is away, but they do spend a couple of hours of the last day cleaning so it looks as if they at least did something whilst madam was gone. This one has not even done the bare minimum by the sounds of it. I personally would not renew her contract, but if that's too difficult for you at the moment being a working mother with children, then I would cut her wages by half and tell her she has to work her way up again and you will give her monthly reviews. [i'>Added later Burnsie I think it's best if you get rid of her. To be honest I can't see you being able to put your foot down this late in the day, because the lines of employer/employee are blurred already. Perhaps she'll take umbrage to any (new) rules you place down, because she's got used to doing very little. I envisage a more problematic relationship now if you don't let her go, so best start afresh with a new maid and make sure you learn from this experience[/i'> edited by Alismum on 03/08/2013

It's gone so fast :( Not sure if I'm happy with it finishing soon... You could always fast another week. Those I know who are fasting always do an extra week after Eid. http://spa.qibla.com/issue_view.asp?CATE=6&HD=1&ID=289

Geordie is it on it's last legs?. Mine was very noisy for a while and has now packed up. Sometimes the frost free ones have ice buildup on their inner coils which makes the motor work harder.

No I don't read it but I buy it when I travel because I like to do the puzzles on the plane !! lol I find it curious that with all the newspapers of the world to choose from, why do so many women here bother with it, especially the [b'>non-British ones[/b'>... I am British, and I check it out for the gossip, (and pictures), plus it's always first with breaking news.. edited by Alismum on 26/07/2013 yes, but I was curious why so many non-British choose it... I'm old-fashioned, I rely on the good ole beeb for my news lol I wonder if it's because when anyone puts a link to news stories it's generally a DM link, also it's a pretty 'user friendly' web site with lots of pics, which makes it easier to navigate. Also it has a bit of a shock value for those who have more conservative media, makes them curious perhaps. I look at the other papers as well, but their layout is boring in comparison. I would never buy this paper (or any other as I always read online these days) and it was banned in our house when I was little (mother always bought the Mirror (I know ;) )), guess I am rebelling ha! ha! edited by Alismum on 26/07/2013 edited by Alismum on 26/07/2013

The DF is "up there" with trashy papers like The Sun. Nobody with any sense actually buys these gutter press rags. We don't buy any to be honest, did so years ago as they are great for lining rabbits hutches! I think a certain paper from this region ;) gets a lot of their stories from the DF, and I'm sure the DF also checks this particular paper for Dubai news :)

Curious what do the very poor who rarely have enough to eat do during fasting month. If Ramadhan is about remembering them. Will they still have to fast? They still have their obligation and it's the obligation of a wealthy person to feed him, but that is an obligation all year round. Though for these people the fast doesn't seem to end. This is why you see everywhere in UAE and other countries people bringing food to the masaajid so that poor people can break their fast. I remember there was a video posted where a man from Somalia called into a Saudi religious Q&A show, when he posed that same question: Is our fast accepted if we don't have iftar or suhoor. It reduced the shaykh to tears of course. Am I right in thinking that the mosque serves food during Ramadan and anyone can go and break their fast there. I'd like to know who cooks this food (can anyone help??), do they have volunteers, or do catering companies donate?

Alismum do you make haleem at home? Can you pls share your recipe? also can you pls recommend a persian recipe that uses minced lamb (fried it yesterday with some onion) Last thing, where can i get dried sabzi for sabzi polo and ghorma sabzi??? Plsssssss Can I be honest Swissroll I really dislike Haleem. My SIL made it last time she was with us (I watched her) and she served it for breakfast and I really didn't take to it, so I never made it since. Anyway here's a recipe similar to what she made (one of my fave Persian food sites - Azita). Recipe says wheat, but I could have sworn she used pearl barley. It's possible you can use either I think. It's very popular for Suhor. I had the oven on about 180 celcius for 10-15 minutes. i usually just 'eye it' and take it out when golden on top. If you did find it dry, and have left overs you could always pour some sweetened milk over it and let it soak into it in the fridge over night. Did anyone cook Umm Ali last night? Thanks Ginnee, I did it and it was super easy and DH loved it. Unfortunately I cannot tolerate rose water and was afraid that it was too much... but nope, he ate a load and then re-heated more for suhoor, so well done you! I made it yesterday but half the quantity because I didn't want leftovers to keep digging in to. It's sinful! It was yummylicious even though I think I left it in the oven a bit long and it turned out a little dry. Can you tell me how many minutes did you keep it in the oven for and the temperature? Ginnee, how many calories are in this Um Ali??? Sounds like 3 days worth lol ;)

Well the metro station is at the back of City Hospital and Creek Park is at the bottom of that road, I know you like walking :-P but not sure if that would be too far?! If you googlemap you'll be able to see the distance between metro & park entrance. Tattie it says 21 mins, maybe we can get a taxi from the metro station that would prolly be best. TX will look into it and add it to our to do list :)

Your nearest metro would be Healthcare City, it's just 5 mins from there but too far to walk! When you say too far to walk, how far approx (we can do 10 mins or so) also there might be a feeder bus.

Have you been to Children's City in Creek Park? It's 5-10 each to get in to the park - then another 10-15 aed each to get inside - it's an interactive science centre and quite big. It could def take an afternoon. There is a planetarium with Arabic and English shows I think one each an hour. http://www.childrencity.dm.gov.ae/wps/portal/childrencity Tattie, Is there a metro station within walking distance of this place, or will we need to get a taxi up there?. Might take mine up there on one of our days out :) .

Thanks Alismum, I have seen the Gatsby brand... their gel actually. Is the gel the same as wax? I have used the Gatsby gel before and I am a bit worried that my hair would look kind of too glossy/oily? Alismum, could you tell me what your routine is? Do you apply the gel after a hair wash, towel drying & detangling it? Sorry, the most I have styled my hair by myself, is to comb it and apply gel... when I was in college. Now 15 years later I have no clue as the only thing I do is just comb and tie a ponytail. :( edited by sumi on 28/06/2013 The wax is different to the gel, this one is creamy (you can get stickier gel which I have tried as well, I have used the Charles Worthington one from Boots). The secret is to only put on a very tiny amount and rub through. I do this after I have dried it. I also only wash my hair every three days now. Also I have had a nice cut from the hairdressers. For years I used to cut my own hair, but it never 'hung' right until I had it styled professionally. The cut made all the difference. I have a graduated bob which the hairdresser blow dried straight but I leave curly now [url=http://hairstyles.thehairstyler.com/hairstyle_views/right_view_images/875/original/9077_Curly-Medium.jpg'>a bit like this[/url'> edited by Alismum on 28/06/2013
