Mum2girls, When we were looking to buy (a few years back now) the Trident Buildings (in particular Marinascape, Oceanic, Avant) were renowned to have the best finishings and building. A couple of the ladies lived there (not sure if they do now, Sals B??) and said it was really nice. But I had a little look and the developer may have left the country for some reason ??? (something worth looking into if you were interested in that building, what the implications for buyers). As with everything mum2girls do your homework :) What about Silverene, did you check out this building right near Marina Mall. Also check out anything by Emaar, they are a good developer. And look at this review of the buildings http://www.expatforum.com/expats/dubai-expat-forum-expats-living-dubai/300617-marina-building-reviews.html Another http://www.expatforum.com/expats/dubai-expat-forum-expats-living-dubai/101569-dubai-marina-recommendations.html <em>edited by Alismum on 07/06/2014</em>

I think Paul Pugh is a very busy man, if you do a google there are lots of people from all corners of the world complaining about the delay. I have a nine month window now for two of our passports and wonder if I should send them or wait a couple months til summer rush is over. Complaints procedure HM passport office [url=https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office/about/complaints-procedure'>How to complain[/url'> If you're not satisfied with the service received when applying for a passport or dealing with the General Register Office, you can make a complaint by phone or email, or in writing. When we get your complaint we will: let you know we have received it (if it was a letter, fax or email) investigate it let you know what went wrong and what we are doing to put things right <em>edited by Alismum on 06/06/2014</em>

I'm not sure if pest control really works for these ants, they are so tiny and can come from cracks in the window frames, walls etc. I have had them for a long time, sometimes there's a lot of them, sometimes just a few, can't seem to eliminate them completely. I sprinkled salt on the bottom of my kitchen cupboards and I have never seen any ants in them.

Well, this is interesting - Dubai is 25% cheaper than my home town... http://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/compare_cities.jsp?country1=United+Kingdom&country2=United+Arab+Emirates&city1=Birmingham&city2=Dubai But rent prices are 71% higher I lived in the midlands many years myself :)

For quality look at the Trident Buildings, especially Marinascape, Oceanic. The best place to buy (if you have the money) would be the towers that are closest to the Marina Metro Station and not the other end of Marina. Have a good look at this forum for in depth info about any of the towers. Do you think it can be fore bicycles and scooters too? My 4 yr old uses bike without stabilisers and does tricks on scooter etc.. Wondering if he might be bit young for it though (even though I know he'd love it!) Found a video, looks like its for bigger kids/teens. Maybe they have special sessions for little ones http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZyyhgBm0Fs

I think the no dating rule goes along with arranged marriages when you have family members do the screening for you. It would be hard to have an arranged marriage in today's Western society because parents and siblings would not be willing to vet possible suitors... I agree Anon it is very difficult. In DHs family a lot of them have not dated before marriage (although a number of them have dated on the quiet :) ). Thing is the family investigate the man/woman and families of prospective spouses with a fine tooth comb, talk to everyone that knows them, criminal records, number of girlfriends, education, prospects, money in the bank, background checks including internet and Facebook details, you name it. This would be very difficult for someone who doesn't have family looking out for him/her. <em>edited by Alismum on 01/06/2014</em>

What is the Total Wipeout you mentioned and which end of JBR is it? edited by Alismum on 29/05/2014 It's an inflatable assault course (a bit like the Total Wipeout programme) - I'd say right in the middle (near-ish to the Hilton). You really can't miss it! That sounds good, do you know how much it is?

Why have you been thumbed down for the above???? Some people don't have much else to do I guess! oooh another one's the outdoor cinema at JBR but maybe it's a bit too hot now even at night. Tattie they have built a wooden structure outside the outdoor cinema, must have a nosey when I get the chance, I wondered if it was a shelter of some sort due to the heat. Mind you they have had the same two kids movies on for a long time now 'Snowflake' and 'Food Fight'. I wonder if they will change the schedule anytime soon..... Hi, JBR beach is public, open 24/7, totally free, unless you want to sit outside Hilton area (not sure how much it is there). You can park for free in Murjan 1 or paid parking in the cinema complex on the beach. If you eat in one of the cafes in the area then you can have free parking. There is a mosque in Rimal 4, also in Amwaj and Murjan there are mosques <em>edited by Alismum on 29/05/2014</em>

Marytodd, While you are waiting get some Boric Acid and sprinkle a talc like layer all over your kitchen as well as under white goods. About 6 weeks ago I saw a whopper in the kitchen, and since putting boric acid everywhere I haven't seen another, you can get it from Life Pharmacy. I swear by this stuff, have never had to call out the pest guys. Every year I get the odd ones, especially come summer months.

Sweetnothings I think Freckles has left. You could try making an outfit. For fruit and veg dress up, I had to make a banana outfit, but you could make any fruit and veg outfit. I got a cardboard box and cut out a huge banana shape (as big as my son) with a hole for his face at the top. I painted it yellow and brown and I put holes in the side and threaded some elastic through. My son helped me make it. It was really easy, took me half an hour tops. Have a look at google, there are loads of ideas. if you wish to buy an outfit then perhaps one of the fancy dress stores or try Daiso, they sometimes have outfits

I stay away from anything organized here. They're way too busy getting pictures taken to post on FB. Do something more personal. In the last 2 ramadan I cooked 10 (not working) or 5 ( working) meals daily for my local masjid. Loads of labour workers come to the masjid to break their fast, your contribution will be very much appreciated. Get loads of rice, mutton, chicken, lentils and other veg. Cook the meals and make parcels for 1. Just think about it: at the end of ramadan you could have fed 300 people! Marroosh did you organise with the masjed beforehand or did you just take the meals down on your own?. Also what tray did you use for the food, and did you cook biryani or other set meal. Tx

I had someone copying my profile photo on FB and making a fake account with it. Didn't know the person, we were part of a same group and she started slandering me, saying I was a fake Muslim and a Mossad agent. Some people have way too much imagination. I don't have any pics up at all. I also don't get why people think it's ok to post pics of other people or with people in it on FB without their consent. Forget about tagging. Hope you get things resolved soon, Doubting. Must be awful. This is awful Marroosh, wonder why people do stuff like that. I don't have FB myself.

If you are looking for some non surgical suggestions you can buy magic tape that you put on your eyelids, called eye magic or something like that. Yes here is is (I think they sell similar in Daiso) http://www.eyemagic.net/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_dU7Bs2AqoY Also there are facial exercises you could do. http://www.evafraser.com/facial_fitness.html Facial yoga http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkM_A642iro Can't verify if these methods work though, but worth a try :)

Lovebop, You don't need to take her to a psychologist, she's only two and half. Like the others have said she's potty trained very early. Mine were around three years old. Don't worry about a bit of regression at this age, it's normal. I tried potty training my youngest around two and half and he wasn't ready so I put him back in pull ups for a few more months. You probably won't want to do that, and if not then I would say don't make an issue of her wetting herself at all. Clean her up and say nothing, give her no reaction good or bad. It'll soon resolve itself and then it'll be onto the next problem ;)

[b'>If I were moving to the springs, I would like the older springs - the ones near small spinneys. I think springs 1 was the best built and has the nicest pool, if I remember correctly, since it was built to sell all the others. [/b'> But you also have to take into account traffic. If you are commuting to SZR, you don't want to have to go passed the school traffic at Emirates International School which can seriously impact your travel time. True and the earlier built ones are bigger. Springs 1 and Springs 2 are near Meadows and Springs 3 at the back of DBS (convenient if your kids are there). When I used to live in Springs I often used to walk up to Spinneys and I think it was Springs 14 (the one opposite the centre on other side of road) that was used as a thoroughfare for traffic. Not sure if it still is now, but I didn't like the feel of it. Springs 10 is more closed off and your children can ride their bikes.

You might not hear the construction if you live somewhere near the park/pool. Or you could try Springs 8, which will mean 20 mins walk :) Could be around a year/18 months to build??? Not sure if/when it'll be started more info http://ambianceproperty.com/newsdetails.aspx?id=27 edited by Alismum on 18/05/2014 Thanks Anyone got any thoughts on Springs 10 ?? Polly I could be wrong but I think Springs 10 doesn't have its own pool. You could perhaps use one nearby if you aren't bothered. It does have a nice lake around it looking at the map here http://wikimapia.org/774130/The-Springs-10 (you can zoom in for a better look)

It's some lucky draw service and it does mention the number 3880 in their T&C. I don't have the sms anymore to check though, I deleted it. [i'>Is this yr number ********** ?! This is your LUCKY DAY! Apart from the kids not seeing their Dad regularly, you will only be seeing him once a month???. I would be afraid that you are leaving him in a place that there will be a lot of temptation for some other person to fill your space (a definite con if you know what I mean ;) ) [b'>So OP should stay in Dubai, give up her own dreams and be miserable to avoid her husband going astray?[/b'> If my husband couldn't control himself without me being present to police him, I would quite honestly rather live without him anyway. Why is it always the woman's job to make sure men keep it in their pants? Is it not reasonable to expect adult men to be able to exercise some self-control? Apologies for my bluntness but this drives me nuts! Nope the OP should do what she feels best for herself and her family, she knows her husband and her situation best but I just want to offer a different perspective as I have seen a lot of marriages break up over here, you only have to look at this board to see this, and it is something worth taking into consideration when making her pro and con list.

I understand now why facebook only has the "like" button despite years of requests for a "dislike". I think a thumbs up feature is quite good, a thumbs down feature (especially anonymous) is too negative, and seems to have invited a level of bitchy/retributional thumbs downing for innocuous comments based on poster, akin to cyber-bulling really (maybe EW should be renamed expatgirl as it seems to bring out the "tween" in some?) [b'>I would support removal of the thumbs down[/b'>. I think most of us would , to be honest.. Facebook thumbs will always be different because it isn't anonymous.. I think thumbs down should be removed as well, serves no purpose really. DT I think you could have the record for the most thumbs down on a post ever, your post at the beginning of this thread ha! ha!

Dear OP I have the NBAD card - blue and its called the e-dirham card. I mention the colour because they have different types and the blue one enables online purchases. I applied for it at NBAD using my Emirates ID and passport. They ask for original passport - no idea why. Received it same day. Loaded it at the ATM and I use it for everything. I can check my account online and top up whenever I need. If you wanted a credit card - I know it's very difficult to obtain one as an SME, my husband and I struggled to get one and eventually gave up. I know Mashreq has a special service if I remember correctly but it was such a tedious process and our business took off real quick so we never really needed a credit facility. Here's the e-dirham card (for the OP) [url=https://www.edirhamg2.ae/en/CardsAvailability.html'>link[/url'> Thanks for that I'm going to get myself one of those. <em>edited by Alismum on 21/04/2014</em>

From what I understand with the visa one, you need to go to one of the banks listed e.g NBD/RAK (if you click on apply now you get a list of Dubai Banks that do them) and request one, give your money e.g 5k and they give you credit card loaded with 5k. Not sure about the ones that are mentioned in the GN article, it does say that you can obtain one from C4 or the petrol station. Wonder if anyone has one and how you do top ups, do you just go back to C4 with card and your money? I've only just started looking into one because I need to renew my sons passport and DH doesn't want to use his card online. so I think yes it''s more like a prepaid debit card. <em>edited by Alismum on 21/04/2014</em>
