My daughter is in ACS. I think the school is good. The teachers and staff are helpful. My daughter seems happy with the school. The only thing it lacks is a big playing field. However, in this Doha heat, the children are not playing outdoors. I was very impressed that they ccame up with lots of indoor activities to keep the children occupied. I live in West Bay so its a good 15 or 20 minute drive depending on traffic. Good luck!

Hi All How much do cleaning companies charge? I am seriously considering one as have not had much luck with part time cleaners!! Do you have to be in the house while they clean? Sorry I have never used a cleaning company before and am not sure. Also, will they do the ironing? Thanks a bunch!

Hi All I am interested too in a full time live out maid. I have never had one before. What are their salaries like? Also, do we have to give them days off? A friend of mine has a full time live in maid and she pays QR800 a month with NO days off and NO friends or mobile phone. HOWEVER, the maid goes on hols with them -- she has been to a few countries in the past year. She is paying less than what I pay for a part timer coming in twice a week to clean for a few hours!! :-)

Hi. Are you a member of Doha Mums? There are a lot of "leaving sales" and garage sales going on with expats leaving. Perhaps check the Doha Mums classifieds. Happy Hunting!

Schools here are extremely hard to get into. There are waiting lists. If you have started the visa process, pick a school and get your kids on the waiting list. It was a nightmare trying to get my daughter into Doha English Speaking School. She has been on a waiting list since September. A girl in her class at ACS International (we finally got a her a place after literally calling lots and lots of schools!) finally got a place after a year on the waiting list! It seems crazy as there are so many good international schools here. Good luck!

Well ladies, they did not approve a visit visa for my friend Andrea! My husband was down at the Immigration Dept this morning and they would not issue one for her. The Immigration guy said it was all to do with money coming into the country. The only way now is for her to book into a hotel and they will do the visa for her. It was supposed to be a cheap hols! She lives in Malaysia with her Malaysian husband and their 2 kids. Her husband and 2 kids can get their visa on arrival. Unfortunately, they were told they could easily get a visa for her. They are trasiting in Doha for 3 days on the way back to Malaysia from Hungary! I honestly can't believe it is so difficult to get her a visa!!! I mean everyone has friends and family visiting surely!!! I am not sure what to do now :-(

It is quite difficult to get into a school in Doha even though there are lots of schools. DESS is one of the more popular schools here and there is a waiting list. I would suggest emailing the school to see if there are vacancies. You can then decide to either put your child on the waiting list or choose another school. The Registrar at DESS is Mrs May Nepia. We are on the waiting list for DESS and it does not look hopeful for this academic year. Another girl in my daughter's class finally received a place after a year wait! Good Luck!

Hi. I have a friend visting in January. She is on a Hungarian passport. She has been told by the Embassy in Hungary that they do not issue individual visas and that the person she is visiting (me!) will be able to do it in Doha. Does anyone know how I would go about this? I have a copy of her passport and return air ticket. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
