I know someone who had this done in the USA. He had to travel far because this procedure was not done anyone near him. Anyway, I heard that it was a huge sacrifice and also very expensive. He had to be on bed rest for 6 months afterwards. I'm not sure why but I think it had something to do with the sperm production. He ended up having another child afterwards so the procedure ultimately was successful... I think you must of heard wrong or the man you are talking about had other issues going on as vasectomy reversal is a very common outpatient procedure. Takes 2-3 hours and afterwards the man can go home and be sexually active after 3 weeks (when stitches are healed). There is no huge sacrifice involved. Just some effort. I thought that it wasn't a simple procedure whereas reversing a tubal litigation is....

And the law was passed in the UAE, not in the Philippines. Basically, the UAE government is saying: "We don't want your maids!"

I do hope this is true as it would start a move towards the end of the domestic helper slavery that is rife here. Not really. They will just open up new countries for housemaid employment, i.e. Kenya and Tanzania.

I have heard that the new law states that housemaids from any country that imposes a minimum-wage on the UAE will not be allowed to enter the UAE. That includes Phillippinos. I wasn't sure if it would be enforced.

If you want to stay in your marriage and are happy with your husband, then you must cease all contact with the other man immediately, no texts, no calls, no nothing. Eventually you will forget about him... Don't throw your life away for a potential fling.... edited by AnonDubai on 17/06/2014

I am guess in you mean like a nursery teaching assistant. In my experience 1600 at the lowest end and 2500 at the highest (working 7:30-3:00) in my nursery. I would guess those working in Jumeirah are likely to earn considerably more and those working until 5/6pm more again. Why would they earn more in Jumeirah? The more expensive fees in that part of Dubai cover the rental fees, not the salaries...

Lost over 2lbs in a week, just by replacing dinner with a bowl of cereal. Means I didn't have to change anything else in my diet, no restocking of the cupboards. Feel so much better now :) Great idea! I may try that.

Unless your child is very independent, I don't recommend E-sports summer camp for a 4 yr old. My DS1 attended at JPS campus at age 4 for 4 days and it was traumatic for both him and me. I was concerned that the children's carers were all teenagers apart from one man and one woman, and that there were approx 12 little kids assigned to each teen. At the nursery that DS1 attended at the time, he would be assisted in the toilet by a nursery nanny, so it was a rude shock for him to have to use the toilet unaided in an unfamiliar environment while being asked to "hurry up". They swim as a group and the little kids are expected to change into swimming suits, then back into dry clothes, by themselves. When DS1 summoned the courage to participate in swimming, he was told off by a 15 yr old girl for being a "slow poke baby" because he struggled with dressing and un-dressing. I was not allowed to pick up my son earlier than the stated pick-up time, which I found baffling. Even though I had pre-paid for the week, I chose to keep my child home on the Thursday. On the Tues and Weds of that week, I visited Blossom and My Gym summer programs right after dropping off DS1 at Esports. A week later, I took DS1 to My Gym where he was cared for by adults in a smaller group and engaged in activities more suited to his age. Interesting that you say that. I had to force my 4 year-old to go back there on the last day, although this year she really wants to go back there again... My 5 year-old loved it last year. There is also a summer camp at Little Explorers in the Mirdif City Center. Does anyone know if it is any good?

A detox with veggie juices & low GI fruits + green salads. Start your day with hot lemon & tiny bit of honey. Avoid dairy as it causes bloating . Fill a jug with filtered water add some ginger slices, cucumber slices, lemon & mint leaves, leave it overnight in the fridge & drink from it throughout the day. Drink herbal & green tea at least 2-3 times a day, take a good omega 3 supplement. You can add 1 avocado per week to your diet for healthy fats & few nuts. Flaxseeds & chia in your salads are loaded with nutrition & they help in weight loss. Add ACV to salads in helps for weight loss. Good luck Good advice! I should follow it.

I am not ashamed to admit that I love Facebook. I keep a certain distance, though. I don't post any pictures of myself and I keep my birthday private. I also try to keep my friend list very low but that can be hard at times because people I meet once request my friendship. I don't request any friendships myself. I do regular culls so if I haven't spoken to someone who is not a family member for 6 months, for example, I defriend them. Facebook has helped me keep in touch with people so I like it...

Yes, very true. I had a surprise visit from the municipality last week. They wanted to know whose trash was outside our property. To make a long story short, it was not our trash but my husband told them whose trash it was. I am guessing that person may get fined! I am wondering who reported me... edited by AnonDubai on 12/06/2014

Swatting away shop assistants who seem to think no one can buy lipstick without help. Baris Gallery is the worst for this - it almost like an attack of the clones as soon as you walk through the doors ... they literally stalk you as you walk around, and even if you say "i am just looking" they still are 2 mm behind you. There are a number of shops my daughter refuses to enter because of this! I brace myself before i go in certain shops Back home, when I was a teenager, the Gap was the worst for this. We used to play a game where you had to run into the store, touch all four walls, and get out before a shop assistant said anything to you. The Gap Game. edited to add: it was nearly impossible! edited by andreasmullet on 12/06/2014 Sounds like fun!

Love the way some people are such experts in Sharia Law. A woman can sponsor her husband, when he finds a job he needs to transfer to his own employment visa. I'm sitting here laughing that some poster wrote down below that it is Sharia Law that a woman can't sponsor her husband in the UAE! I wonder where they get the information from. It's simply not true. Actually only women in very specific professions are allowed to sponsor their husbands. These include teachers, nurses and doctors. I'm guessing that midwives could potentially fall into the medical profession, but you would need to double-check. I was not allowed to sponsor my dh when I came here 10 years ago, despite earning a good salary. Things may have changed since, but men and women are far from equal in terms of their ability to sponsor. I am not saying that the sponsorship laws aren't true. I was only laughing because someone said that it is Sharia Law. Sharia Law covers many aspects, but it makes no mention of UAE sponsorship regulations...

Wow- this thread is hilarious. Though I have to say, if your only argument against using water is that some people leave the toilet floor wet (which I agree is disgusting)- then what do you say when the area around the wash basins is covered with water? Certainly isn't an argument against washing hands after using the toilet! edited by Gentle on 10/06/2014 because the water around the toilet may be filled with faeces that have shot out - this is not liable to happen at the sink unless you are washing your **** in the sink ... well i have seen mothers stick their childs **** under the tap in a public toilet..... so there goes your theory. NO!!! Well I have never seen this ............. I have, but it is usually housemaids doing this and not mothers...

While we are on the subject, what is it with the design of bidets? On a toilet, you have a good bum sized hole (give or take) with a comfy seat. On a bidet you need to perch on the cold, bare rim of a huge bowl, whilst you try to direct the water towards where you need it. Left to its own devices, the water trickles down the small of my back, which is generally quite clean already. I did face the wrong way on squat toilets for years, so it is quite possible that I have got this wrong too. Adjust the water pressure so it sprays where it is needed ;), never had an issue with it spraying my back !! sounds like you sat too far forward....... But mine has a downward pointing tap right at the back of the bowl. Am I supposed to put the plug in, fill it up then dip my tail feathers? Who has time for that? edited by Chewit on 10/06/2014 Umm, Chewit, are you facing the right way on your bidet? http://www.howcast.com/videos/351816-How-to-Use-a-Bidet Some people like a happy ending :-P We used our bidet for keeping plants moist while we were on holiday! Very handy :D How? Put the plug in, filled with water and placed the plant pots in. :) Good idea if you only have one plant and are only going for a short time...

People who crowd in front of an elevator and push in once the door opens- to go up one level. Especially when all of them are men so no "high heels" excuse. They get a subtle whack from my big handbag when they do that If someone is getting the lift one floor - i usually say "its quicker to walk"...... Or take the escalator... I also dislike watching people without young children or strollers take the elevator when there are people waiting in line to take it and there is an escalator nearby...

It really bugs me when my children pick up or touch something and someone says 'no, don't touch, it's dirty'. Firstly, I'm with them, if I don't want them touching something I'll tell them myself. Secondly, a bit of dirt is good for children, I'd hate for them to be prissy clean freaks afraid to explore the world. Yes, I agree with you. My kids also get dirty and I really don't care. They have a bath everyday so I don't need someone else to point out their hygiene guidelines to me... I also don't like when someone takes a butter knife from my children in restaurants. Yes, I let my young children butter their own bread. It keeps them occupied! edited by AnonDubai on 10/06/2014

I am the diaper queen! I have two kids in diapers and have tried every single brand. However, I couldn't tell you the prices of any of them. I don't look at the price but I have a general idea of price ranges. Sanita Bambi are good. I also like Fine for cheaper diapers. The Carrefour brand is also good. And I have no problem with Pampers. Maids are given health card numbers without your having to apply for it. When you take them for their Hepatitis B vaccination, you are given a yellow card and their health card number is written on it. You don't even need to apply for the health card. If you ever needed to take her to the government clinic, you could just use that number.

I don't have time to answer all your questions but I just wanted to tell you that it is not worth getting a government health card for your maid. If she gets sick, you can take her to an affordable private clinic. It will work out much cheaper and more convenient..

It is interesting from a cultural viewpoint. I never even knew what those hoses were for when I first came to this country. I assumed that they were for cleaning the floors since the floors have drains here. After I discovered their purpose, I have never gone back to my old ways! I suppose I was dirty in my old life and I never even knew it! When we travel abroad, we always carry flushable wipes with us. They are readily available in Europe and the USA but not so easy to find in this country. I buy them for my children and have to go to Spinney's or Boots to get them...

I reckon their numbers for Dubai are wrong. Sure you can eat cheaply in dubai at an inexpensive restaurant, but who goes to Ravi's everyday? And if someone can find me a kilo of apples for less than 10 dirhams, I'll eat my hat! Where do you buy your apples? They are so cheap here!
