I often do tip, even though I am actually against the idea of tipping. I think that the idea of tipping originated in the USA for waitstaff because they are only paid a few dollars per hour so they need tips to supplement their income. It seems that tipping has now spread to many other professions yet there are also many other professions who don't get tipped but would probably be happy to... But why should we tip anyone working for someone else? For example, do any of you tip the phlebotomist here after getting blood drawn? What about the cashier who rings up your groceries? Would you tip him/her? Those are people who are making just peanuts compared with the actual profits of their employers.... So, nowadays, we tip taxi drivers, car washers, salon employees, gas station attendants, waitstaff, etc. But why do we only tip them and not others?

My DH did this by himself and he is not a DIY guy. However, he is good with computers. If your DH is good with this kind of stuff, he might be able to do it by himself. Let me know if you are interested in setting it up by yourself and I will ask my DH what to do and post it on here. I don't know much about it, but I do know that we have three different networks in our home. A booster is not enough...

I am also wondering when the DSS is starting. I doubt that it will be starting in June, though, because of Ramadan. Does anyone know? It has been rebranded. Summer is Dubai 2014 Thank you. Do you know when it will start?

Personally, I believe that as long as a woman's body can get pregnant naturally and carry a healthy baby, then she is not too old. That being said, I do believe that having children younger is better, at least for me. I am 34 but having children has aged me so much that I can't imagine doing what I am doing now at the age of 44!

Ok. Since my latest phone update, my text predictor is no longer working. For example, if I type in Mirdif, it would then give me the option of City and then Center. Now it has stopped doing that. I have already Googled it and all that is said is that the text predictor needs to be on, but I have gone into the settings and it is definitely on. So why is it not remembering anything that I type?

"The rule will take effect across the country and it [b'>will ensure age uniformity, even when children change their school or curriculum[/b'>." So it doesn't make sense that this only applies to some curriculums and not others - not that I'm disputing what Horizon has sent out, it just seems odd. I thought of it because December age cut off is standard for most of the American/IB curriculum schools (or at least it was two+ years ago when we were deciding on the curriculum for our children). So essentially the new rules would mean no change for American/IB and a change for British curriculum schools - in that light Horizon's claim is indeed very confusing... Yes, you are right...

You do know that the original researchers on gluten have admitted that they were completely wrong? I'd eat your pizza if I were you! In one of the best examples of science working, a researcher who provided key evidence of (non-celiac disease) gluten sensitivity recently published follow-up papers that show the opposite. The first follow-up paper came out last year in the journal Gastroenterology. Here's the backstory that makes us cheer: The study was a follow up on a 2011 experiment in the lab of Peter Gibson at Monash University. The scientifically sound — but small — study found that gluten-containing diets can cause gastrointestinal distress in people without celiac disease, a well-known autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten. They called this non-celiac gluten sensitivity. Gluten is a protein composite found in wheat, barley, and other grains. It gives bread its chewiness and is often used as a meat substitute. If you've ever had "wheat meat," seitan, or mock duck at a Thai restaurant, that's gluten. Gluten is a big industry: 30% of people want to eat less gluten. Sales of gluten-free products are estimated to hit $15 billion by 2016. Although experts estimate that only 1% of Americans — about 3 million people — suffer from celiac disease, 18% of adults now buy gluten-free foods. Since gluten is a protein found in any normal diet, Gibson was unsatisfied with his finding. He wanted to find out why the gluten seemed to be causing this reaction and if there could be something else going on. He therefore went to a scientifically rigorous extreme for his next experiment, a level not usually expected in nutrition studies. For a follow-up paper, 37 self-identified gluten-sensitive patients were tested. According to Real Clear Science's Newton Blog, here's how the experiment went: Subjects would be provided with every single meal for the duration of the trial. Any and all potential dietary triggers for gastrointestinal symptoms would be removed, including lactose (from milk products), certain preservatives like benzoates, propionate, sulfites, and nitrites, and fermentable, poorly absorbed short-chain carbohydrates, also known as FODMAPs. And last, but not least, nine days worth of urine and fecal matter would be collected. With this new study, Gibson wasn't messing around. The subjects cycled through high-gluten, low-gluten, and no-gluten (placebo) diets, without knowing which diet plan they were on at any given time. In the end, all of the treatment diets — even the placebo diet — caused pain, bloating, nausea, and gas to a similar degree. It didn't matter if the diet contained gluten. (Read more about the study.) "In contrast to our first study … we could find absolutely no specific response to gluten," Gibson wrote in the paper. A third, larger study published this month has confirmed the findings. It seems to be a "nocebo" effect — the self-diagnosed gluten sensitive patients expected to feel worse on the study diets, so they did. They were also likely more attentive to their intestinal distress, since they had to monitor it for the study. On top of that, these other potential dietary triggers — specifically the FODMAPS – could be causing what people have wrongly interpreted as gluten sensitivity. FODMAPS are frequently found in the same foods as gluten. That still doesn't explain why people in the study negatively reacted to diets that were free of all dietary triggers. You can go ahead and smell your bread and eat it too. Science. It works. Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/gluten-sensitivity-and-study-replication-2014-5#ixzz328GLxtBq Interesting...

So my son was born in June 2012. When should he start FS 1? He's close to my DD who is July 2012, so they would start 2016 it seems! [b'>NEW SCHEDULE[/b'> (from my understanding) [b'>YEAR GROUP[/b'>...........FROM.................TO [b'>2017[/b'>.................01/01/2013.................31/12/2014 [b'>2016[/b'>.................01/01/2012.................31/12/2013 [b'>2015[/b'>.................01/01/2011.................31/12/2012 That means that they will start when they are 4 and a few months. My DS will be bored out of his mind before then because he is not going to nursery...

Yes, Yvettesmom, schooling is free. But what if you live in a town where the school system is so bad that the high school loses accreditation? Unfortunately, my house is located in one of those towns so I don't think it is worth much... As for why I don't buy elsewhere: Well, I have no money to buy!!

I agree. I am not paying an accountant $425 to figure it all out for me. It would be nice to get some answers from someone in simple terms without paying hundreds of dollars or thousands of dirhams. I will never get anything in return from the US government. We don't get free healthcare or education so why should I pay taxes to them considering I have no income myself? I only own property but my tenant hardly pays any rent!!!

I don't have any advice for you but I just wanted to say that I empathize with you. I have four children, ages 6, 5, 2, and 3 months. Nighttime is a disaster for me. My two eldest never want to go to sleep yet I have to wake them up every morning to go to school and they moan and cry! My almost two year-old goes to sleep later than me most nights because he is never tired because he still has an afternoon nap. And the baby wakes up several times a night and does not resettle after 5 am. Most nights I just lie down with all of them and sometime around 9 pm everyone eventually falls asleep!

IMO, absolutely nothing. Everything is available here and babies need very little. I would not waste my suitcase weight on baby items. I have four children and one is a newborn and I have never needed anything from abroad to keep them safe, happy, clean, and fed. There are lots of second hand things available for babies here so you will be able to save money....

[ The crew member did ask people at bassinet seats if they would mind moving, and only one couple obliged - but on the condition it would be for only half the flight (it was a 14 hour flight). These people didn't have a child. Neither did the people at 3 other bassinets. edited by millymoo on 10/05/2014 Has it ever occurred to you that THESE PEOPLE might have requested the seats because those seats are in fact extra legroom seats as well? Why should THESE PEOPLE have to move to the "fold up" seats in the middle? And you are talking of arrogance? Who are you to decide that you have more rights to the extra legroom seats than others? I thought that passengers with infants had priority for the bassinet seats...

I just got Lacome's new liquid eyeliner...it's rubbish and was expensive so am very disappointed! usually use Sensai one, which is fab but thought I'd have a change, big mistake...! That is why I am so hesitant to buy makeup in this country without knowing about it first. Makeup is very expensive so you have to make sure you get it right. In the USA, you can bring any makeup back to the drugstore if it didn't live up to its promise. The store doesn't care since they will get their money back from the manufacturer. Now you have a brand new Lancôme eyeliner, used once, and possibly never to be used again. What a waste of money!

Emirates does not care about us UAE residents. Their main focus seems to be transporting people to and from the Far East and the Indian subcontinent to places outside of the UAE. They are clearly successful in their strategy as evidenced by the number of Far East Asians stopping in Dubai on their way to Europe and Africa...
