There is definitely SEN support at Victory Heights (and there are several kids with dyslexia for example) but it sounds like you manage this from home anyway so not likely an issue. If you can't get into DBS then the drive to Vic Heights is very short and much less traffic this part of town at the times you would be traveling - it is honestly a clear run every morning and I've checked with lots of other parents who have been doing that route for a long while now. Although it would be a longer commute for you/ your husband to downtown Dubai. There are so many new schools that have opened in Dubai or existing schools that have opened new campuses in the last 18 months or so that your choice is much wider than it used to be - there isn't that pressure for getting on wait lists months or even years in advance that there used to be apart from some of the very long established older schools - and even then our kids were offered places at one of these ones that are apparently impossible to get into!! We turned it down in the end as the location just didn't work but still couldn't believe the amount of choice we had. So perhaps things are changing in our favour!

Hello! We are new to Dubai too and have two children aged 8 and 5. They started at Victory Heights primary school a couple of weeks ago and we just signed on a villa in springs 15 :-) I can totally empathise with your worries! It's a difficult choice to make from so far away. We are really happy with the school so far, it seems like a happy little community (we were at a much larger school in Muscat, Oman previously) and everyone I've met so far has been incredibly helpful and friendly. We didn't look at DBS at all so can't comment on it specifically (I'm not actually sure why! I've driven past since and it looks great) but one of the previous posters is right, it would be very handy for you if you lived in the Springs - you could even walk in the cooler months. And rents are rapidly coming down so you're probably arriving at a great time to get somewhere with a bit of space and a nice little garden. Some of the villas in Springs (and in fact in all different areas, we looked at so many!) are in shocking condition inside but equally there are plenty that have been well looked after you just have to hunt them out with a decent rental agent. The communal areas, parks, pools thereare lovely and there's a great 'town centre' the shops, cafés, supermarket etc although here will be more amenities opening up in sports city soon I think, it's just a bit more of a building site now but that will change no doubt. Lots of parents at school live in Victory Heights which is a compound inside sports city with lovely pools and parks but it was a bit out of our budget for the size of house you got. Some live in The Green community which is gorgeous but more expensive. We seemed to get better value in Springs. My drive to school takes around 12-15 minutes and there's no traffic as I think the 7.30am start means the roads are quieter. BUT it does involve going a very short way on some pretty big roads but literally only a couple of minutes tops and they do get easier to handle with time and the fact that they are quiet in the morning helps. Coming home is about the same with the odd bit off traffic depending which way you go. Sorry I am rambling! Hope this helps and best of luck with the move x

Hi there My family and I will need a serviced apartment either in or around Jumeirah Lakes Towers or Victory Heights/Sports City for a month or so in September while we find a villa to rent. We have two children so would be grateful for any recommendations if any of you have stayed at family-friendly apartments, including those within hotels, in any of these areas. Many thanks!

Fingers crossed they get through the assessments and we are meeting you in the new term in that case! All sounds very positive and more like the primary school they were in in the UK than the larger school they are in where we are now as it goes through to secondary - that definitely has it's benefits and think my eldest will miss the 'big kids' being around but thinking smaller is better for them now, at this stage.

Thank you for that feedback keeoerofthetreasure. Really appreciated and good to hear you are so happy with the school. Can I ask what years your children are in? My eldest is going into year 4 hence why I was wondering about secondary in case we are still there then but think there are actually lots of other secondaries to go at now even if VH doesn't build a new one in time.

Hi oceanview Can u ask what age your child/children are. We looked at Gems DSO for our kids going into year 1 and year 4 in September and are still trying to decide whether to send them there or not as it looked great but so big! Have you heard of recent positive reports on the school as their khda report is quite old now.. We were also looking at the ranches because we were told there are only a limited number of villas available for non-EK staff which is a shame as there were hundreds of bikes parked outside the school belonging to children from that community who were lucky enough to cycle to school. Would love that for my two! AB

Thank you for your responses ladies, really helpful. I had read through both reports and they were pretty similar although the BSO report was very recent and more detailed in the areas we are particularly looking at so pretty positive really. Their report on Gems Wellington In silicon oasis was surprisingly good also albeit almost two years old. Thanks heaps again, much appreciated.

Sorry just to clarify, we were interested in this school but have seen it was only rated 'acceptable' in its first KHDA report - although interestingly the British Schools Overseas inspection more recently in April rated it as 'good' and the report was mainly very positive. I wouldn't judge a school entirely by its inspection report obviously but was a bit concerned about the 'acceptable' rating so would be interested to hear some honest feedback from parents whose children attend or have attended the school. Thank you!

OK thanks! The Foundation Stage building was open and classes were running when we looked round, it was the Primary and Senior buildings that needed to be completed - the Primary is supposed to be completed for the start of the new term and is the building our children would be using... Only 106 kids there so far - i prefer a smaller school (but perhaps not that small!) although I guess it will grow over time. As you say, unlikely any of these parents will see this post to reply with their feedback as there is so few of them. Ah well!

Hi there I think this post is a few months old but I just posted a thread asking for feedback in this school also but haven't had any replies so far... We are thinking of registering our children for this Sept 2015 so curious to know if you went ahead with this school or decided in another? Thanks!
