I used a 'golden rules' poster that we made when lil miss was that age...used pictures that we drew for the positive behaviours expected, and had sticker charts. (well, actually a pebble in the jar system...was easier to take a pebble out of the jar than it was to take stickers off her) We could make one of those if you like?

Second Globalpack...our stuff is in storage with them till we decide what were doing...only 250dhs a month :) for a whole household lot? That would be doable for a year, for sure.

and we are human too, us mums. Not one of us perfect or able to maintain the approximation of it for 24/7. Regardless of how much we love our kids, we don't need to like them when they get ugly, and they do. It's been a VERY long school term, and i for one, can't wait to see the back of it. Lil miss came home without homewrok today and I actually yahoo'ed! When you can speak to them again WdV, have a good chat with them about YOU for a change, and how much it hurts you when they behave like feral monsters, and what your expectations are. Right now they are probably feeling very chastened and willing to listen.

i am looking on dubizzle but dont feel entirely comfortable with some of the postings on there. i've also heard so many horror stories about "pet stores" here that i'm too scared to even think of going that route. i want a small dog. something i can love & kiss & cuddle to death! any suggestions? TIA edited by dikane on 17/04/2011 How small? my foster pup kacie is a small terrier type size.

I wouldnt know if its a law issue, but I did have a friend who when pregnant and having all the blood tests had a dr withhold results, or not carry out specific tests because if the outcome had been of a certain kind, termination would have been an option.

In our last place himself deducted the security deposit from his final cheque, and despite much of a song and dance about it there was very little the agency for the LL could do about it. We just 'knew' there would have been problems with it, so decided to circumvent it...took some spine though! (and quite a lot of cheek) :)

I have had a thread on the pets section for quite sometime about my foster pup Kacie who is looking for the perfect forever home. She is advertised on EW classifieds, and I had the link on the thread to her ad on dubizzle. For some reason this thread has been deleted? Is there any reason for this? Thank you

Can't believe Paul is gone :( He has such character, stage presence and is a unique performer. His experience stands out miles from the likes of Stefano and James, so I really do feel the wrong person went home last night. Heres hoping that something wonderful comes along for him from being showcased on the show.

well, we had a month in a furnished hotel apartment as part of our package and then we moved into our empty apartment. That first month was a struggle. I had thought that I had planned to the inth degree...ie: didnt ship beds, sofa's etc as wanted to buy new and therefore would have them while we waited for our shipment. Had it all sorted right down to new linen, towels etc and bought cheapo kitchen stuff that then became our camping kit. Forgot about fridge and washing machine though, duh! That month (took over 8 weeks for our ship to come in) 'camping' in the new flat with a toddler and a working hubby with no fridge and no washing machine was the pits. Next time I will ditch the whiteware, and buy new at the other end, otherwise it's all do able.

Rained heavily on school run....grrrrr.....seems to be a licence to drive even faster! Just spoke to DH who did the Dubai-AD drive this AM and he wonders: why do SO many people drive without their windscreen wipers on? It can't be that they're worried a little rain will turn their windows into mud because the rain was falling steadily ... Yet another example of idiot driving, I guess. That drive is currently giving me the heebies. Himself hasnt had a day off in 5 weeks, is absolutely crackered and the idea of him on that road with rain added to the equation? *shudder*

sand will be nice and compact, safari won't (or shouldnt I spos) take in wadi's, gives a totally different perspective to desert which will be fresh and lovely, won't be too hot. On the other hand, is the camp covered for the evening bbq, henna, camel riding extravaganza?

Really WM? awesome :) you know hubby built it? Have spent quite a bit of time out there even before it opened and the chefs were doing soft runs etc. It is lovely and we're very proud of it. ( as we should be given I was a solo parent for so long because of it!) The setting is spectacular and given I can't convince you to come camp in the big empty with us, you will see just why we love the area so much. Have the best time, and do go for at least 2 nights..it's a drive and a half and you want to make the most of it.

Best bet honestly for finding a place in the springs would be to drive around, see the ones you like and phone the numbers posted on them. Some will even be open so you can pop inside and have a look around if they are empty. Just make up an address at the gates and in you go! Theres enough empty.

Ew is always really useful in Ramadan as the coffee ladies search out places that are open. Each day someone comes on here with a new find and with instructions how to get there! Except of course you do run the risk of asking a question as simple as "is anywhere open for coffee" on here and getting shot down in flames by a certain few, with the old "just stay at home" and "can't you cope for 8 hours without coffee", "you're in a Muslim country, what did you expect?" ... and my all-time favourite, "If you don't like it, leave" as happened to me last Ramadan (my first in Dxb) when I wanted to take my visiting daughter for a shopping day ;) really sam? shocking. so uinlike EW, lol! Mind you...what I find during the summer particularly and it's exaggerated during ramadan is that some women on here do go a bit feral. all that being stuck inside going 8 hours without their coffee must go somewhat to their heads :D

do we have high moral ground-ers on here? Look, you know what you have to do...you have to be honest. What would be the absolute point of accepting the job with out saying and then telling them 3months down the track? Whats the companies reaction going to be then do you think? Whats maternity leave here...6 weeks? If they take you on knowing you are pregnant can you personally manage that? I know that you are desperate to work, so if you think you can manage the maternity leave when it comes time to come clean before accepting the job, have a plan a and a strategy...sell yourself and your ability to function at this level whilst being pregnant and a mum to an exsisting kid. Worth a try?

I'm not gettting the parading around and showing off bit?! Just because you are wearing bikini with a bump?! I don't think it's "showing off". I also don't think women should necessarily do it specifically because they are 'proud' of their pregnant bodies. I just think that if a woman normally wears a bikini at the beach, there's nothing different in wearing it pregnant or not. I am genuinely surprised that (taking cultural and religious issues aside) women here, other mothers, find the exposure of a pregnant belly offensive...more offensive than one that's not pregnant. Pregnant or not, all who spend time in the sun should do it safely but yes, pregnant women's skin can be more sensitive. and our temperature gauges seemed to rise a bit too when pregnant, well mine did, so it's not easy to tolerate too much heat as youre already hot. One has to hope that most people now are sun safe concious whether pregnant or not. I too don't get this 'parade' business... cover up/decorum/show off/discretion etc? In a bikini you are at pool or beach no? Not waltzing through a mall or whatever. Swimwear of anykind is suitable attire for such places and it's a personal thing as to whether you would cover up or not. I do get it if someone feels their full of baby belly is a private thing, and to cover would be their most comfortable choice for themselves. Whether you are small, fat, inbetween, roll covered, marked and scarred it is no ones business but each individuals as to what they themselves feel good in and want to wear at a beach. Cultural and religious conciderations aside, of course. We've had the thread on fatties in bikinis, now the pregnant one...whats next? gonna ban everyone over the age of 60 from wearing a swim suit at all? Personally, as I have said before...there is nothing more beautiful than a pregnant tum. Love it and love to see women who do embrace it and enjoy their pregnancys doing things they love, and if thats the beach with their belly out...more power to them. and if its the beach with belly covered...fabulous too...whatever is most comfortable and 'right' for each individual.

Jewels middle, sugarbeach does not appear to be upset, in fact I think if you read properly you will see that you have the wrong end of the stick in regards to what this thread is about...and what point she herself was making. Not sure we really need a lesson in how the world economy imploded in on itself in regards to interest rates on the rise in the UK.

I am looking out of my office window and watching a workman trying to clear a flooded road with a bobcat. He pushes the water up the road with the shovel thing then reverses back down the road... needless to say all the water flows back with him. Talk about an excercise in futility! Especially as it has started to rain again... Is this the big boy version of playing in puddles I wonder? ;) BTW this is on a narrow, single track, one way road - he reverses at speed without paying any attention to the oncoming traffic, in fact twice he nearly upended the thing whilst reversing in a wavy line.. I don't think I can bear to watch anymore... edited by Genie on 11/04/2011 lol! somewhat like the wee men who use a broom to sweep roads during a shamal. I love this place...I can see 6 impossible things before breakfast on an ordinary day.

Absolutely wear what you feel comfortable in, my first preganancy was horrible and you wouldn't have caught me dead in a bikini or even partically dressed in the sun haha my second was totally different I had a great neat little bump and wore a bikini and felt good about it. Later in pregnancy its more about feeling comfortable so maybe an all in one would give your belly support or you might be luckly and not need any :) Do what you feel good about :) In really interested to see the comments about not wanting to see a bump in all its glory, I had no idea people were put off by it, I mean there are surely much worse things to be seen on the beach ;) lol edited by JShepherd on 11/04/2011 Oh, HALLELUIAH! My first pregnancy I was the size of a small condo and I hated, hated, hated the way I looked. I am hoping this time round I'm going to have one of those neat little bumps and reading your post gives me hope! Hurrah! I really don't get what's so distasteful about a bump. I honestly don't. To me, distasteful is butt cheeks hanging out the bottom of shorts; thongs; budgie smugglers; that kind of thing. Not the most natural thing in the world. Excuse me mrs DC, are you at it again?! #2? REALLY?!!! so excited.

I think it would be very possible to explore those places over 4 days. Do you have the off road explorer book? Lots of lovely routes all through the UAE. Al Ain and Hatta both have some very cool things to see and do...the wild life park, heritage centers, forts etc etc. And then the next trip you do you could do RAK and Mussandam.
