I can't remember what it's called CW (so thats not a lot of help I know) but years ago we conscidered moving to Adelaide and they put out a relocation package thingy which had everything you needed to know...areas, schools etc etc. we got it off the interwebby so it must be there somewhere. They are 2 VERY different cities, and personally I would choose melbourne...it's very cosmopolitan, multi cultural etc but the weather is rubbish. Havent actually been to adelaide though the weather seems better. Apparently is very quiet town.

I'm very pleased that you had a good experience at Cedars ShellFC, and am thrilled that your husband is well on the road to recovery. However, I had the complete opposite experience with that hospital. The bed I was put into on admission in an emergency case scenario had someone elses blood all over the sheets, long black hair on the pillow, the walls and interiors were filthy. I appeared to be somewhat of a novelty as every little man and his dog made an apperance to gawk...I'm talking cleaners etc, not Dr's. Before any medication was given to me, each and evrytime, I was made to get out of bed, shuffle with my iv stand to the payment counter and que to pay for it, along with about 60 squillion labourers. I had barely had a diagnosis before the hospital accountant was at my bedside wanting 10s of thousands of dh's up front for an operation. Needless to say there was no chance or way in hades that i was letting anybody in that filthy dump cut me open. Quite frankly I wouldnt be having any serious treatment here and a brain tumour certainly is VERY serious. OP, I do hope you get the information you need and the child gets the best help. Echo SalsB..if a fundraiser is started or needed...count us in.

Thats what I have read about MS by proxy too SW, that they have or have aspired to a medical background, and have suffered abuse. the problem with the interwebby as everyone has access to everything knowledge wise and it can be a dangerous thing. The problem with MS by proxy is it is VERY difficult to diagnose.

I had NO idea this thread had got turned around to me and my silly little sulk, sorry derbend. I am lucky, and I am sure you are too that you have people in your life who LOVE you, and that is YOU...the lovely messy beautiful you and everything that is and means. Of sourse we all have our place in the world and in the hearts of people...you know the ones, they will drop everything in a minute and come to you, as you would them. You can cry, laugh, and be yourself. I reckon we get lucky if we can count those friends on one of our hands. The secret to less freindy friends is as I said...know yourself, be secure in yourself....I say I am hopeless. And yup,I am at a lot of things but i am also very good at others, and quite frankly those are the things that are important in my life. But I also believe we are here to learn as much as we can, and at the risk of sounding a bit airy fairy...we have people and experiences in our life to learn things, people for a reason, and a season lalalalala. I don't know why we would want a negative person in our lives, but maybe there is something I can learn, or they can learn? I think you just have to be careful that it never gets detrimental to your health etc. Big thanks to the chicks that do know know me...silly muppets, I am ok! And I feel very lucky to have you lot in my life. and that will teach me to muse out loud on line hey?

Oh my word, turning 30. The sane part of me wants to screech: 'suck it up, princess', but the gentler, kinder part of me is ... well, it's saying almost the same thing. Wow, you have your whole life ahead of you, seriously, and you'll be tacking a great many more years onto the end of your 'life expectancy' than many of US will! This is the prime of your life, with so many opportunities before you. And you probably don't even have any cellulite yet. :D We're here for a good time, not a long time, but you have a majorly long time ahead of you to get through, so make the most of it, stop crying in your coffee, and celebrate your life. You're worth it. :) PS. Gorgeous story, salsb. I want to be her when I 'grow up'. :D OMG!! "suck it up, princess" and "we are here for a good time, not a long time" are catchphrases I use all the time... are you my evil twin? My other 'standard' is: people who don't drink and don't smoke don't live longer, it just SEEMS longer. :D That doesn't seem to go down well with most peeps, I have discovered however ... ;) lol! I wonder exactly how many of us that went suck it up princess? Was exactly my first thought....

the only circumstance where a mother should abandon her child (or a father for that matter) would be where they are mentally incapable of supporting them or are a potential source of harm to the children (eg, they are abusive, insane etc). there, that's off my chest... this article really riled me.. hmmm, me too. did you read the link in the article to the other one?

My MiL is one of those women who make me feel ashamed of the whining and carrying on that our generation of women seem to have perfected. 5 kids, an absent husband (skeddalded following his dream after he's lost the family farm and any money with it) and the sacrifices she made are amazing. She is utterly crippled with arthritis from working in a laundry for 20 years to raise her kids, and even then in poverty. She is pure old school, and how she did I don't know.

Think of it as a compliment. All of my friends who have 'shadows' (that's what I call these people, the identity stalkers) are great people and others want to mimic these good traits. What I've found easiest is that I don't tell these women what I'm doing... until it's done and then they are so far behind me they couldn't catch up anyway so you remove the element of competition. For example, you want your daughter to start ballet, you enrol her - don't tell that friend. But, if in the future, your daughter does well and you want to brag about it, invite the friend to the show. By that time even if she enrols a child it will be in competition with your child who is already several steps ahead and is still advancing at the same time. You want to open a business? Just do it. Don't tell her. Then if it takes off then tell her 'yes, that's my business'. Things like that. With some friends I've learnt to only speak about the weather and let them talk about themselves. gah! I couldnt imagine having to live my life with all those strategies and tactical moves in place

I have friends who make it quite clear that they are better than me, and I am hopeless at all sorts of things. Theyre probably right but its awful to feel so belittled. But I just don't compete, what is point? In fact, i have decided to feel liberated by being so hopeless...the bar is set at a low standard for whatever it is so theres not a lot to live up to, no? The real trick is to know yourself to be better than that and let the rest slide off your back. Tell me you don't really believe that about yourself? Liberated at feeling hopeless? dear oh dear. Thats what I mean though...it's 'them' with the thought system, not me, so why should I let it effect my life? or the way I do things? or feel a need to live 'up to' someone elses set bar?

How about the other side of the coin, parents who divorce and mothers who are pretty much unfit and who insist on full custody just to spite the fathers - is that worse than leaving your children? for mother there are no circumstances she can leave her child, even if she is in poverty. Money cannot replace love and care, Izzy. But AriVW, ther ARE circumstances where a woman would/could or should leave her child. Why neccessarily is a mothers love more or better than a fathers? Statements like yours are part of a mind set that has molded our society to the way family structures are made and what is veiwed as acceptable. When you make a sweeping statement like that you negate all the mothers who have posted here, all the mothers who for whatever reason have left their kids. Now...you can say that about MY mother, and I would agree. But as someone said, we cannot judge anothers choices in life and there will be parts of all stories that we wont know or wont understand.

My mum left us too, but for no good reason...was having an affair and just walked out to be with him. dad raised us, and i will spare you the horror story of life with my mother when she was around. I have never gotten over it, and when I look at my daughter i just cannot for the life of me even imagine leaving her.

My gut reaction and also a long held beleif system is I never would, and it's actually something I feel very strongly about for a variety of reasons...but what if I was bad for my kid? In whatever way...could I actually do it? I like to think that if I was destroying my daughters life and the best thing for her was a life without me, then I could man up and walk away, though even thinking about it as a theory makes me feel ill. And then theres the other side of the arguement...a man can live seperately from his kids and thats perfectly acceptable in society, but a woman can't? Does there have to be extenuating circumstances for that to be acceptable? is that why the women in these articles are trying so hard to make it sound like they just didnt up and leave because it all got a bit much. One article I was reading the woman just basically (after doing the whole organic super mum thing for however long) that actually she just wasnt cut out to be a mum. They all go to great pains to underline just how fabulous they were as mothers, and they still leave and they still insist it's great for their kids.

JUST to see what could happen did you watch that movie about pushing the button, you push it you get a million dollars but someone will die, and you won't know who it is. Would you push that button? You know that movie was a real conversation starter! I said no, but in the situation, where you really, really, really didn't know the person if you needed the money - then what? But, I'm a big believer in the butterfly effect and that one day you will get it back. I know! Himself said he'd push the button, me no (I like to think) because it would just have to come back and bite you somehow. But if we were desperate? I don't know.

I have waited for this thursday for MONTHS!!! Finally it's the weekend where himself will do his race and we may get to see him occasionally in the near future. Lil miss is performing tonight and has spent a very long weeks rehearsing after school for the show. Can't wait to see our wee star shine. and THEN? Ace at festival city had the one we have last week on special....folds down to the size of a camping chair which we love. Is square, metal slat topped. Thx - found it in Ace on SZR last night and DH bought one straight away. All set for our picnic trip next weekend now! jolly good. Keep meaning to go and get us another one as well.

I guess social etiquette is a minefield in such a multicultural place but I think we've established that it's universally unacceptable to charge guests when you're entertaining them in your own home! I just couldn't imagine the embarrassment of asking guests for money let alone the actual deed of collection. What about if you invite friends out to celebrate a birthday at a bar? I was embarrassed when a lovely girlfriend invited me for birthday drinks and then insisted on paying the tab for everyone at the end of the night. When we did the same for DH's birthday everyone just paid their share at the end of the night. that birthday thing is such a tricky one...usually hubby will pay for my friends when we invite them to do whatever it is I have decided would be nice for my birthday...we kind of look at it as my present. One year though we were asking for the bill and then friends insisted on paying for themselves for whatever reason ( i think because they had a: not realised we would pay and 2: because they had gone all out on their meal fully expecting to pay and enjoying their special treat out) and to avoid squabbling over it you just need to be graceful and accept...but then you feel like stink because you have invited them out to where ever, maybe somewhere they wouldnt go normally and they have had to pay for the priviledge. gahhh, birthday mine field!

anyone got any info on the roads? I've been hearing all roads are blocked around tecom and JLT. don't have a radio in the house so can't listen to any updates. Just trying to guide Mr Freckles home so I can eventually eat don't go tecom...it was shocking, even with our wee detour. Everything is piling up as people try to get off szr. Mr A has just walked in door...came the jlt turn off, slow but not horrendous.

You havent even asked what is the fee for adoption and now you are making the whole deal of it without any knowledge!!! And you, ladies want to give the cat for adoption to this lady ?? No wonder there are so many furry babies ending up on the streets!! If she wants to be that right why dont she just pick up a kitten/cat from the street and make one more happy creature on the earth. Most of the cats/kittens that are in shelters are from the street so it wont make any difference to her except that she wont pay an adoption fee for the shelter!!! Sorry but what does your profession and nine bedroom villa have to do with this? You mentioned an adoption fee and Freckles rightly pointed out that such a fee would constitute a sale. sounds like its a big accident involving 5 cars near MOE thats not really that surprising given the mess it was in as we went passed just before, and people of course are not driving to conditions, and speeding and cutting in and generally being their best impatient selves when you can clearly tell that no one is going any where!
