sorry to hi jack thread....we urgently need a fosterer for our foster pup for this weekend only if any of the lovely ladies thinking of re homing clellands dog would like a trial weekend with our wee one? Really sorry to hi jack but very stuck. If the dog is small, I could do that happily. But I read you said special needsy...have been working late hours/weekends so dog will be cared for by maid (no not one of those EW one's from ****!) and kids for part of the day. so it depends how complicated special needs are... email summerdream76 at gma i l dot com sorry, just saw this...you are lovely, thank you. I've manage to sort something out for her. I say special needsy because she was a born in a wild litter and is a very hi spirited wee animal. She is learning though. Thanks sooo much for the offer.

I have clarified this with the host, and they will provide everything and would like people to give a small contribution to the meal and drinks. of food or money?

I feel so old and old fashioned. Reading this thread, I realise how little I have to do with many of you. Pot luck dinners are fine between friends. House warming parties are catered for by the hostess and she should receive gifts for her new home. BYOB for relaxed parties, again between friends. Anything else should be catered for by the hostess at her expense. Never, ever invite people and expect them to pay, except for pub rounds. it is only an invite to sit with them at your expense. whoopeee dooo....I think not. Thats exactly right, the other thing I was thinking about was, maybe (in our cases any way) because we have small people in tow our entertaining has changed? We no longer do the sit down formal meals we used to before kidlets, but by the nature of it have a far more relaxed, casual gatherings.

youre right trouble, freckles did have to give up a kitty because of her daughters bad allergic reaction and it broke her heart to do so. However, the reaction her daughter suffered does not seem to be at all as severe with long haired cats for some reason, which is why freckles is looking for the right 'fluffy' cat.

I have posted a response to the lady on the pet forum..... I do think it would be an idea just to send Feline Freinds and emails between you and this lady, as if she is selling animals then it's all evidence for the Municipality for implementing tighter laws here. The more people they know are actually doing this disgusting illegal trade, the more they will do about it. You are saying that I am a breeder right? And you are thinking feline friends are gonna do something evenif I was a breeder?? Last summer when I found a cat with two kitten, the cat was with broken tail and very sick plus two babies around 1 month old. and when I called feline friends ?? What did they tell me ?? We are full and the lady told me to put her back on the street !! So you think they are doing a great job ?? Kimie, you seem to be missing the point entirely...this is not about whether FF do a good job or not, after all they do what they can with no expectation for recompense at all. You CANNOT take money for your kittens, it is illegal. I have already posted an alternative method for you if the wellbeing of the cats really is your most important priority. Get potential adopters to donate to FF in your name, and then give away your kittens to them. Oh, and get mama speyed toot sweet, before you carry on contributing to dubais overwhelming cat problem.

Ladies, What is the difference between paying 500dhs for adoption and for 6500dhs for the pet show?? I included in my letter to Freckles why I am taking the fee!!! Not because my kittens are vaccinated, microchiped, registered in municipality and dewormed!! [b'>Just that I want to make sure that they wont end up on the streets or wont be used for breeding and people will take good care of them just like I do of my cat!! [/b'> As I said that it is my cats first litter and I am not planning on having anymore. You just cant imagine how hard it is so raise them up and know they will be on the street or in the bad hands. And of course it drives me crazy when someone starting to point out that I am selling the kittens without knowing me. It is just because you never tried to raise and find them good homes and to me they are like my own babies!! If that is the case then Kimie, potential adopters can donate in your name to FF...that way youre not selling the kittens.

so what's the difference between an adoption fee and buying a kitten? well, if you adopt from say FF or the likes you pay an adoption fee. this goes to them, not the fosterer or carer of tha animal. It won't recover the costs of vets, vaccs, nuetering microchipping etc that goes on before the animal is adopted, but it does at least 2 things. 1: ensures that FF can keep doing their good thing and 2: gives an indication of how serious a potential adopter would be about taking on a forever animal. However, if you were just a person doing this, youre selling the animals.

dodgey as, and if frecks says that your email to her sounded like you were selling them when in effect you were not, then perhaps you had better change your wording in subsequent emails, kimie. Also you will notice the forgive me if I am wrong bit in freckles post? Thats the bit that means you come on and say yes you are wrong, not go into fullon attack mode as a defense when it is clearly unwarrented and only serves to make you look as guilty as all get out. Um, and can I just say pot kettle dirty bottom in regards to the last bit of your poat? You say that freckles has posted against you without knowledge, and then yet here you are spuriously defaming the character of a woman you don't know. Nice one.

Last year, a friend got married and invited us for a buffet dinner at a nice hotel. The invite mentioned the price for the buffet too and the fact that each person was expected to pay for themselves. I found this a little weird, I mean if you want to celebrate your wedding.... why would you want people to pay for it? But then I thought maybe it was a Dubai thing. Though I must admit, I was glad I was out of town and couldn't attend. Can't judge it as right or wrong, but it just felt a little weird. thats happened to us too...not invited to the actual ceremony either...just the aftermatch function. odd.

At home in Canada, Pot Luck dinners were always happening :)....someone would get moving for a TGif, call friends and yell Pot Luck at 7 tomorrow and everyone who came, brought a fav dish of food, wine or whatever and everyone had a great time being together. I mentioned that once and got looks of horror here lol..... I must be VERY lucky with our group of friends here then, cos we are the pot luck queens!

ow herewego, thats awful! I am starting to feel that there IS a cultural element underlying all of this...for us, offering guests food and drink is as natural as breathing, taking something along with us when we go out is as natural as breathing, having a bbq or a gathering and everyone bringing a contribution to the meal is natural...you get the picture. A more 'formal' gathering like a party is a bit different where as the host we would provide everything that could possibly be wanted, but we are blessed with such generous friends they just can't bring just themselves, bless them. And if I was to say, have a dinner party I could cope with maybe 4 guests, but for anything larger we stick with the more casual pot luck arrangement and we get to host more people at a time, host more often and have a lovely circle of friends where we all get to relax and enjoy each others company more regularly than say if we were all going to have to host 'formal' all the time. I guess that makes me part of the byob brigade then?

I've read some of the replies. I would say that no siblings please are fine if you're hosting an expensive party in lets say Ski Dubai, Wild Wadi or something like that. If you're doing it at home it just seems tight. I only invite people I know and always invite siblings as well. After all it's a family affair. Gee thanks, because I personally spend a fortune (and am happy to) on my duaghters birthday parties....I LIKE parties, I LIKE that the children have the best time and I LOVE that they are in my garden, games made by me, food made by me and friends and it is still a very expensive enterprise. Who cares? Is not about the money ever ( though I tanty every year over it and threaten lil miss with diamonds instend of party) it's about COURTESY. If you are asked to RSVP...do so. If you are bringing siblings....ask the HOSTESS. SHE will feel like shyte if she cannot provide every child with a treat or a prize, she will feel like **** if she has not catered for them all, she will feel like **** if your univited sibling has an accident, or cannot be cared for because you effed off, and YOU will blame her if the worse happens and something bad happens to your kid. A Little sense ladies please, it's not about who is generous or not...by all means, my loved ones can walk in and help them selves to my whole house...but this is a KIDS party, and their are parents taking the micky and it has nothing to do with 'culture'. IMHO of course.

I think it is one of the lessons kids should learn, but it seems we're a minority. We did the cake for the class thing and only invited our friends and 6 of her friends for the last one, where as the rest of the class are still doing an all or nothing type of approach. Lil miss learnt early that she couldnt go to all parties as well, even if invited. Icouldnt think of a more horrific weekend than one that is spent on the party treadmill.

I think it's perfectly ok at lil miss's age (6) to have a drop off party for the children, and last year it was the hieght of excitement to be able to go to a party without mum or dad. I object to people who drop off their unknown to me child, leave a phone number and then turn up 2 hours after the party has finished to collect their child. Who rather bizarrely never looked as if she thought it was at all weird to be abandoned at a strangers house. But invites I send out are specific...siblings yes, siblings no, parents catered for or not. It has been my experience that these univited children who you have no idea are coming til they are foisted on you, don't bring a gift and are rather noisy and demanding when it comes to the treat bag. I was once in hospital unexpectedly and a friend was looking after my daughter. It just so happened that it was lil miss's 'best friend ever' party and we just couldnt let her miss it. A phone call to the mum in question and of course my friends children were welcome along with mine and I sent a long a present for each child to give to the bff...it never entered my mind not to. Every year we do our best to give the girl a down home in the garden party that is fun for the children and the grown ups...I think we succeed on the surface of it but each year it's completely fraught, costs me an absolute fortune and every year I swear I'm just going to give her diamonds at the next birthday and be done with it. I cannot WAIT until the child is old enough to just have a couple of girlfriends over for a pj party!

oh I have given up with this whole malarky...people don't rsvp, they show up and drop and run, they leave the wholekit and kabboodle of siblings (and in one case friends of siblings!) all the kids expect the whole treatment from woe to go and birthday parties are the bane of my life. We TRY to have a nice day, doing regular party stuff and still the whole things ends up being a mission from hades or a babysitting extravaganza.

Thats exactly it AS. The group (small) was very successful last time we ran it, and it only went by the way side when all bar 2 members left town. I'll reiterate: it is a group that has no judgement and because the 2 people left have 'been there, done that' can offer practical advice on Dr's etc but our actual medical support are no longer with us. It's a place to be safe, know that you are understood, and know that whatever it is you feel will never be belittled. It's support in the true sense of the word, and only that.

Good girl LD, well done. Dr F is a great guy, and has been an excellent GP for our family the whole while we have been in dxb. You are in good hands. It doesnt matter that you don't want to join a group, just yet, or don't feel able to...the most important thing is that you went and spoke to a caring professional and have started a road to recovery. My email is always around about on this board for some reason or another and if you do want a chat or just a shoulder than please, don't be shy.

hi Bixi, If you want a villa in a family style community then I would suggest the springs, Lakes, Meadows or the Ranches. ar Aroha says, your hubby can drive the commute to work (as most of our husbands do) but you will need to find a school fairly close to where you live as the school run can be quite a task with the traffic. We live in the springs and my daughter goes to Star in Umm Sequim. It takes me about 30 mins in the morning but about 12 mins in the afternoon! think star has closed their wait list though frecks? thought they had plenty of places for the older year groups? 8 yrs old..would that be yr 3???? could well be mistaken!! But child is 6.5 and that would be going into yr 2? I can never get this straight... sorry bixi...I don't drive either, and am happy with our schools bus service. Like freckles, we are in springs. Star International school may well be worth a look...pretty sure that the foundation years wait list is closed and possibly the younger yr groups as well...but all worth a call anyway while you are here to have a look.

nope, lil miss does them herself. We offer suggestions, ideas, make the time for it, help find materials, but as with homework she knows she has to do it, otherwise the only person she cheats is herself, and the the only one fronting up to the teacher to explain why she hasnt done it, is herself. we were seriously miffed a while back at a campaign the kids were doing and the amount of parents work being bandied about...just not in the right spirit of the thing at all.

After a decade of wearing bikini thongs, i put on some big pants (was pregnant). Oh. My. Word. The comfort! I felt like my bum was getting a cuddle. I haven't gone back to the G-String, though DH does wistfully ask occasionally! edited by mover and a sheikha on 06/03/2011 Love it! Hubby occasionaly gets all wistful about wispy bits of lace too (he calls it giftwrapping) but quite frankly my bum and I are happy just the way we are thank you. While I was in NZ last year I came across the BEST EVER knickers...they're called thunderpants and garranteed to never go up your bum. Ever. I heart them sooo much. All NZ made, designs, organic and the most comfy bum cuddle ever. Getting my mum to bring me back a suitcase of them when she comes this year.

I would conscider us to be the least materialist people in the world! I was raised frugally, and paying prices for labels gives me horrors. Having said that, I like nice things...particularly in my home, but what I conscider nice, or things that I love maybe quite different from others. Art, pieces from our travels, furntiure that says comfort, put your feet up, be at home. Other things I will spend money on because they are practical...it makes no sense to have cheap knives if they don't function as a knife should, or cheap pots if they burn your hands as a for instance. So, while I am not a label girl I do admire quality, and will look for it, and get real pleasure out of finding it. When I look at our daughter she has sooo much compared to when both hubby and I were kids (and HE is beyond frugal, he's just downright stingey, but that comes from once having everything, to having nothing) but we still love that she is turning into a well travelled bratling, that books are treasures and that we can give her these experiences and supply us all with books galore...we know the difference, and hope that she will grow to appreciate that difference too.

We normally endure the summers, and I say endure because I cannot stand the malls. So, as someone has said, we get creative with inside activities for small people at home, and swim/ out side play either early morning or in the evening. I cannot stand ramadan here, so we try to leave for a short break just to break things up for a couple of weeks. Last year, Lil Miss and I went to NZ for 6 weeks and it was horrible....neither of us liked being away from himself for so long, so this year we revert to the normal plan...endure the heat and have a break as a family. Though I may sneak an extra 10 days in Thailand at the end of the break. :)

Just call your mum and say to her that if she wont take your daughter back to the hospital straight away, then you will call someone who will. Get your daughter to get one of her friends mums to take her...she needs an advocate, and she needs to be checked out again.
