I don't think it should be a battle between the 2 parties regardless of who is being petty. It should be about the dog... and only about the dog. Whats best for the dog?!! Clearly the dog is dearly loved by both parties. Do you want to let the dog live its happy loving life in Australia where the weather is more kind ALL year round and the dog doesn't have to go through the whole transportation process for what, a couple years in Dubai before being shipped off the the next location you move to? Or put the dog through the whole transportation process, bring it here, will still be loved dearly but for most of the year the weather is not desirable (definitely not as nice as Oz) then put the dog through the whole transportation process AGAIN when you decide to move on to the next country? THEN when you finally decide to move back to Oz the poor thing has to sit in Quarrantine for 6 months or so? Its hard but I think whats best for the dog is to leave it in Oz. I have seen first hand pets being transported by airlines and yes, its all done well and professional... but I have seen dogs very very unhappy and stressed behind the scenes in the baggage area... broke my heart. and yet we have people on here (EW) wishing to rehome their pets rather than transport them to another country, and they are held up for ridicule, villified and called every type of irrisponsible monster under the sun for not wishing to take their beloved pooch or moggy with them. Are we now to give them every compassion because after all they may just not have it in them to transport their animals and subject them to such cruelty?

quarrantine into oz and nz is only 6 months if one hasnt kept up to date with rabies titre testing. if we're only going to concider the animals wellbeing then the OP had best take into concideration if the old people can exercise animal adequetely, and for how long will they be able to keep that up? Can they afford vets and asscociated costs on a pension? What happens to animal if it out lives the elderly folk? Not pleasant to think about, but if bobs behaviour is going to be excused on account of his advanced years, then one really should think rather carefully about that as well. There is a minimum quarrantine period of 30 days for OZ. exactly. Hardly the grim 6 months origonaly stated, no?

My Dad is close to "Bob's" age and there is no way that he would act in this way! my dad is a lot older than bob and, oddly enough, still quite capable of behaving like a rational adult. Whether he chooses too or not is another story...;)

Bob is 70, he has probably grown very attached to dog and when people are old its very hard for them to give things up which has become part of his routine. Taking it for walks is probably just one of the many things that he jpys doing with the dog You gave up the dog when you left it and moved here. If you loved the dog that much and it was part of the family then you should have taken it at the time. You wouldnt leave a child behind. Think at his time of life you should leave the dog with him and perhaps get another dog here. Its pretty mean that he said he wants nothing more to do with you, a complete over-reaction. Suggest that if you let the dog stay with them, you try and get some kind of apology once the dust settles. Dont lose contact with family members over a dog. Hope you sort it out I agree with Hooters, the old man is 70 and has fallen in love with the dog, let them keep the dog and reconsile your differences. Get another dog here if you really want one. 70 is not old, and unless theres a health issue bob has no excuse for acting like a petulant child. He and Mil have known quite clearly that it was a temporary home they were providing...whatever stories theyve been telling themselves to decide otherwise is their problem, not the OP's. I think they can scarcely say 'it's our dog' when the OP has been payiing vet bills and probably other ongoing related costs for the animal while it was housed there. While dubai isnt an ideal environment for dogs, it's is do able, and plenty of people do it. As well as the shipping/ transportation. Comparing an animal with a child is in my opinion as emotionally manipulative as what these parents are doing.

I do feel for you but 2 years of looking after a dog is way beyond temporary and I can understand why they would think that the dog is theirs, whatever the original arrangement was between you. This is of course very painful for you but I am sure the dog has bonded with your MIL and her husband and whilst you think of the dog as yours, the dog will think she belongs to them. You have to think about what is right for the dog and maybe that is staying with them is the right thing however upsetting it is for you. edited by frampton on 03/02/2011 But she has been talking just about constantly about when the dog comes over to the parents...the temporary situation may have gone on for longer than origonally planned/hoped for but it still is just that. Dog would have been winging it here 12 months ago if not for rather compassionately leaving it there for the parents to get over death of their own dog. I have had both cats and dogs live with my folks for 2 years at a time whilst overseas and they knew as soon as they saw me or heard my voice EXACTLY who I was and who they belonged with. I think I'd feel a little more tender towards the parents and concider adopting a new pup out here and leave dog with them IF they weren't being so blantantly emotional blackmaily about the whole thing. Totally unnessecary and below the belt.

I just wouldnt enter into any more discussion with MiL about this. send an email saying that you are organizing a third party company to organize the shipping of the dog, and all the practical aspects of the shipping. Say as nicely as possible that you would appreciate if they could co operate with the agent to make it as easy as possible transition for YOUR dog. Thank them again for looking after the dog. Thats it. Don't let Mil wreck your head with saying how awful trip will be, dog won't know you etc...they are manipulating you and know full well what and how hurtful what they are doing is. If it carrys on, then nicely point out that it was only ever a temporary situation and while you are grateful for the love and care they have shown for the animal it is time for her to come home now. Just don't allow yourself to be dragged into tit for tat, she said, he said. Say that you are sorry that Bob and herself feel that way, but move along...time for pup to come on home.

got ourselves a wee foster pup here at the moment, she's only about 12 weeks old, born wild, and had never known a person til she was caught and delivered to me. She has to be the nicest, most loving, eager to please, quick to learn and healthy dog. She's going to make someone very happy as a new member in their family one day.

If you don't need the money straight away, you could 'buy' a cheque in American dollars whilst the Aussie is at parity and then wait till Aussie drops and then cash it in in Australia, or just take a wodge of cash with you now. At an investment seminar recently we were told that when Aussies are repatriating permanently they can take 300k home in cash - obviouly check this before you do it! Good Luck err, most cheques are only valid for 6 months from being issued, they then become 'stale' and unable to be banked let alone cashed. As the $ is likely to remain high for the forseeable, I wouldnt use that option. Do you mean some kind of USD bank bond? We're in the same boat as CT, send our money home monthly regardless of exchange rate, but mostly because we are hopeless and if it was in our a/c here we'd spend it.

I can't get on to any live streams anymore except the Innesfail one. They've all crashed it seems. And even the on site tv news crews are now leaving their coverage and going for cover. Things must be getting bad. But... the Pink Towel has it's own facebook page now and is being nominated as the new Australian Flag! http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=685200179#!/pages/Pink-Towel/143482055712616 Trust the Aussies to find some humour in yet another disaster! red towel stream just shut down now. much concern if red towel goes there won't be another put up as is too dangerous to go outside. Lesley I will see if I can find out for you. At the moment all I've heard is that they're evacuating people in [b'>low lying areas along the coast only[/b'>. They don't have room for everyone in the evacuation centres so if your house is not in an area that will be affected by a tidal surge (up to 7m in height in the worst zone), they are asking people to stay in their homes, bunker down with mattresses etc in their bathrooms or laundries. Frankly, I think some people's houses might be safer than those big evacuation centres with all that roof space (generally they are school halls, university basket balls courts etc). An online mate of mine who lives in Cairns has a webcam set up outside her house and is streaming live to the internet. Head to Coopers Health on Alwasl road...you'll be able to claim back on your insurance, and they will take walk ins (without an appointment) you may just have to wait a little while. Have the previous dr's prescribed calpol or nuerophen? an antibiotic on it's own(quite apart from the viral/bacteria issue) is not going to give any relief from fever.

We're in Springs 1 and can normally see the towers of JLT and the Marina from our lounge window. I can't see anything but the trees in the garden! And DH expects me to walk the dogs with the wee man in his buggy....pfffft. as our gazebo and garden furniture is currently dancing about on the lawn, i wouldnt be taking the wee man in his buggy anywhere! He'll end up flying half way to sharjah....

Back on track people!!! Who owns the school is not the issue! It's the fact that these facilities haven't eventuated. @Aroha- gosh don't I know it!! Smart yes- but I refuse to use that as an excuse for his 'high spirited' (being oh so PC and all) behaviour. The ponderings over the lack of facilities has come about when we have had reason to visit other schools recently for various events and have compared the resources available to their students for relatively similar tuition fees. Just made us wonder if we are providing the best opportunites for our child/ren. And I am not just talking bricks and mortar infastructure, but things like ECA Music lessons or similar. Think I have 'lost my happy' tday too... edited by Little Poppet on 01/02/2011 AH, let me do the lack happy . Ok, so master LP may need more than the school can provide...theres no shame in that. YOU chicka, know what to do. just call, hmmm?

My husband and I live in Abu Dhabi, and would like to stay in Dubai for a weekend. Is there ANYWHERE that will allow our dog, too. Hotels? Condos? Villas? Please let me know any info that you have! What weekend is it? If we are away we can do a villa swop? You may just have to feed couple of the resident animals in exchange....
