Likewise I think religious jewellery (the case a few years ago of staff wearing a cross at work) should be worn under clothes at work, companies with uniforms should basically have a uniform coloured or plain black hijab, kippah, dastar (any additional as required). Same can go for schools as well. RuthM: Is that not a contradiction? On one hand you say that religious symbols should not be visible at work, then on the other hand you say that workplaces should provide religious headwear. I wear a silver cross pendant and have never had any objections to it.

Lemon & sugar. There is no alternative!! My 7 year old son was born on Pancake Day - which in 2007 was the 20th of February. He was so excited today when I told him :)

Thanks assisi. We are going to eat in Bidibondi before the crawl so won't need food along the way. longhorn0915: Thanks for the review ;) I've just been told about the Rodeo Bar at Stables which is newly opened (near Fibber Magees?) which as a Rodeo bull in it. We are doing line dancing at the start of the night and will all be wearing cowboy hats so this sounds like a MUST-DO!! lol ;)

I am planning my sister's hen night which is going to be on a Tuesday night to make use of the ladies night freebies! We are starting off at a place on the Palm Jumeirah (Bidi Bondi) and ending in Harry Ghatto's (Emirates Towers) and have a limo to take us on a ladies night pub crawl along the way. Due to the direction we are traveling, and only having the limo for 2 hours, it would be more convenient if the bars/clubs were on the in-land side of Sh Zayed Road so that we can just hop on and off the highway along the route. I have found B:LUSH in Media One hotel. Has anyone been? Tabla in Grand Millennium has been suggested too. We only need about 4 places really as we intend to just have one or two drinks in each place then on to the next. Any other bar ideas please, bearing in mind there will be 20 ladies rocking up! Thanks :O) edited by ASHT on 25/02/2014

www.safaschooldubai.com is their website. If you click on Admissions, there is a Fees button to press and you can download their fee document. The fees at the new school will be higher but I think there is a discount for the first year as part of it will still be under construction. The new school will open in September but only for certain years I think. I believe FS1 and FS2 will be opening there though. My boys are in their second year there - they are in years 2 and 3 - and they love it there. Settled in really quickly and made friends quickly too. The staff are great, the kids are all happy. One of my kids needs extra support in class and this was flagged very early on in the first half term which I thought was good. We are happy with the school.

Thank you everyone. It not easy finding the right place and I think word of mouth and personal recommendations are the best, so I really appreciate all your advice. Now that we know the entertainer fee is not applicable it has certainly opened the field somewhat!! Quite cheeky that a a few places who have already sent us proposals have included the dhs750 per performer fee in their quote! Snuffle - Congratulations!! I will let me sister know about Ajman. Lizziej - I'll be in touch if Sally needs a cake referral.

My sister is getting married here in Dubai next year (March). They live here and her fiancé is in a band. They want to have a buffet style outdoor reception and for entertainment they would like to set up a keyboard and some acoustic guitars so that their musician friends can get up, at will, during the afternoon/evening to play. This rules out hotels and golf clubs as they require a license for every performer who will sing or play at a cost of dhs750 each!! Its meant to be a casual affair with friends singing or playing acoustic music as and when they want to. I have searched and searched and cannot find anywhere. DOSC was suggested but you have to be a member to hold a function there, or 10% of the guests have to be DOSC members. But a venue similar to this would be ideal. Does anyone have any ideas please?? Budget isn't huge as they are paying for the wedding themselves and the guest list will be approximately100 people with friends and family flying in from the UK and Australia. Thank you in advance :)

Try Safa School (like Pikachu suggested below). Its a British curriculum non-profit school and they are starting Year 7 for the first time in September and bound to have spaces. My two sons are in Years 1 & 2 and throughly enjoy the school. I would recommend it.

I'm afraid not. The one from the US was tracked up until it left the US. The two from the UK were just sent by air mail. Its just strange to have 3 packages in as many months go missing :( Doubly frustrating because, like you, they are probably just sat on a shelf somewhere :(

PJ - I saw your DS' name on my DS' class list, and they both have unique names so thought it must be him! I found some purple swim shorts for Tristan, Arena brand, so you might want to check out Sun & Sand Sports. I got them in the Spinneys complex one on Al Wasl Road. I am going out today to try and find some for my 7 year old today too. I'll try and look out for you at drop off and pick up to say Hello :O)

Is anyone NOT buying the school's swimming trunks for boys? My 5 year old is only little and the smallest size they had meant the leg holes gaped open. Also, the "cycling shorts" style were baggy and ill-fitting with no net insert inside making them extremely uncomfortable. I have found some purple boxer-style swimming shorts for my 5 year old in Sun & Sand Sports but can't find any to fit my 6 year old. I just wondered if anyone else was making alternative arrangements - or will my two be the only ones not in Safa swimming kit?! Thanks. Sam

I second Intersport next to ACE at Festival Centre. They measured our feet and we ran on the mat, connected to the computer. the sales assistant then went into detail about the findings on the computer and recommended trainers for us. DH and I both went for Saucony ones as they were the most comfortable. You can use a treadmill to try them out as well.

Oreo, your son sounds exactly the same as mine. He is turning 7 this weekend and wanted a ski dubai party, but we did that last year and are going to a friend's party there at the end of the month. As a compromise, he and his dad are having a skiing lesson the day before his birthday (he doesn't know yet, its a surprise) and we are taking him and a handful of his friends to Pizza Express to do a pizza-making party and cut his cake on Friday, which is his actual birthday.

Starbucks sell them, in various sizes, though they don't always have them in stock. I have one for each of my family. You unscrew the bottom and put in your own collage of photographs/pictures.

We are going to drive to Dubai today (we are in Abu Dhabi currently) and just turn up at schools and ask them in person. Perhaps seeing us face to face may help our quest! Safa seems to be our best bet. But will also try Regent, GEMS & Mirdiff. Our company will pay for school fees but they are capped. australiajudy who is Fiona Coutts? do you have her contact details please. Thanks. I appreciate all your advice ladies, thank you. I'll let you know how i get on! We want to get a school before we look at where to live. Sam
