Hello, I had issues with my fasting sugar during my last pregnancy. I had to start insulin, every night at bedtime one shot. I tried all kinds of combos for snacks before bedtime. what worked most of the time is peanut butter and crackers, or ice cream. However what I had to realize is that fasting sugar elevates due to my pregnancy hormones (insulin resistance) not because of my diet. (the more pregnant i was the more I had to increase my insulin dosage) So in the end try the different combs and if they are not working don't hesitate to start the insulin. this will ensure even sugar distribution for your baby, and thus you will end up with a healthy pregnancy, healthy mommy and healthy baby. Let me know if this helps and if you have any other questions. After delivery my sugar returned to normal, and when on insulin I stuck to a healthy diet.(lots of fruits and vegetables, whole grain carbs, etc) (many small meals during the day)

Hi, I don't think there is anything wrong with eating seafood while pregnant. Eating seafood at least twice a week, is a part of a healthy diet while pregnant. However, one must avoid eating raw seafood (and there are exceptions for that) and fish with high mercury content (large fish, such as tuna, or shark, for example).

Hi, I am sorry that you had a miscarriage. I can't say I know how you feel. But I understand how difficult and emotional trying to conceive can be. As far as I know, when I did my research on ivf, we hear about more miscarriages thru ivf then spontaneous pregnancies, not because the likely hood of a miscarriage is higher through ivf. But because an ivf pregnancy is monitered so closely that statistically they might miss taking into account all of the miscarriages that happen when they are through natural conception. I guess I am trying to say, that ivf seems to have more chances of a miscarriage just because we monitor it so match more. On the other hand, a woman might get pregnant, and very early on loose the pregnancy, without her even knowing about it. Am I making sense? But I don't think there is any conclusive evidence that says a chance of a miscarriage is higher through ivf. I hope this helps. I wish you strength, to go through this again. And hopefully next time around you will get your wish.

I believe it is also state dependent. If you are over 65 and poor, then you can apply to supplement your Medicare benefits ( federal funding) with Medicaid benifits, which are state benefits. This usually should cover your medical needs and drug needs. As far as prescriptions are concerned, there is supplemental insurance one can buy, on top of Medicare, if you have some assets, and you don't qualify for state help. As far as the other benefits, such as social security, as has been said it is very dependent on how long you have worked, and what kind of taxes you have paid. I beleive it is usually a small amount to most of the elderly and shouldn't be enough to support them. edited by asouheir on 17/11/2012

I wouldn't want anyone in my house who doesn't want to be there, to work that is. I would think it is best to negotiate a settlement that will be agreeable to both (the op and the maid) and let the maid go.

Hi swissroll, zofran is used for nausea and vomiting while pregnant as second line therapy or third line therapy... while pregnant it is a good idea to stay away from any medications, however a patient alongside the doctor must weigh the benefits vs the risks of taking any medications... Zofran is a category B medication per FDA guidelines... " Reproduction studies have been performed in pregnant rats and rabbits at daily oral doses up to 15 and 30 mg/kg/day, respectively, and have revealed no evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the fetus due to ondansetron. There are, however, no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Because animal reproduction studies are not always predictive of human response, this drug should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed." So Zofran is used in pregnant woman to treat nausea and vomiting, as a patient you need to discuss your concerns with your doctor, and if still uncomfortable then seek advice from another doctor maybe.

Hi, the advice I was given during my pregnancies was you shouldn't start a new exercise regimen when u get pregnant. That means whatever activity level you were at before pregnancy you should continue with while pregnant :-) , so check with your doctor...

I think if you took the time to write the review, then you had something of substance to say. the fact that they are trying to have you change your comments, means that you had something of substance to say. So no I wouldn't change my comments!

Hi, it is a very tough question to answer. I am curious which drug are you going to take? As coconnell said taking Category C drugs is a question of weighing the benefit vs the risk (but I do see it happening often, that is women having to take such drugs). what would happen if you don't take your medication to you physically? and would you not taking the medication harm your baby? it is a tough decision and I am sorry you are having such a dilemma. Any other drugs that might be able to help you, that have been out longer and maybe have been documented better with pregnancy?

Hi, 7 spice is quite different from all spice I think. In all cases I get the Europeon all spice from Almaya (its expensive as compared to the other spices!) and I only found the Lebanese version of Allspice once at Geant in a packaged plastic bag brand Abido (a Lebanese brand). I have yet to discover new places that carry it. My husband kept telling me that his family doesn't add black pepper to there dishes, just the all spice . So I was on a mission to locate it, I do think the European and Lebanese version tastes similar , (I made my husband taste it since I never grew up with spice) but I might be very wrong!

Just have to agree with emness and the others.... It is just too much that she is complaining that SHE cant take emirates home??? join the club. Even the corporate club. Very few get to pick the ticket home nowadays. Also, can I remind you of something, In the USA employers are only legally required to give one week off per year. Esp for entry level jobs like housekeeping. I love some of these comments that are illuding to-' everybody deserves a month off' really? i wish the USA had these rules..... you are right saintlouismama, after i worked for 15 year with the same company, i was excited i got to the 4 week vacation allowance !!! mum2girls, why don't u inform her that it is no problem, she can fly on emirates, but she will have to pay the difference!

Well said americanfamily3 :-) I have a nephew who has lived most of his life in Sweden, he is trying to learn Arabic in college (Arabic is supposedly his native tongue, he does speak it with a heavy accent though) So i was curious about his teachers and there background, he said they were mostly swedes who are linguistic professors and not native Arabic speakers. My first reaction was why would you learn Arabic from a non-native speaker! then I thought about it some more. Arabic is my mother tongue, but that doesn't mean I am qualified to teach it. So I think the same goes for English teachers and schools. Teaching is an art, and if you are a native speaker of a language that doesn't make you a teacher of that language. As long as the child is learning properly by a qualified teacher, that is what counts. As far as the accents are concerned, who cares what accent your child has, as long as he can communicate clearly and correctly . In all cases I do think children do end up picking up there parents accents anyways :-)

Hello everyone, I am looking for some help please. It looks like we will be relocating to US at the end of January. Our apartment lease (we live in JBR) here ends at the end of August. The land lord (it's a company not a person)said that our apartment is in demand, (since it is full sea view and inexpensive), but I need to find a tenant to avoid paying the 3 month penalty, who will take over the lease. How do I go about finding a tenant?? any ideas?

I would think IUI is a better idea... As far as I know standard procedure is first Clomid (5 to 6 cycles) then IUI (up to the patient on how many cycles ... then the gold standard, IVF... I don't think that stimulating with injections (I assume that's what you mean with injections) then timing intercourse is a very scientific method?

hi, i had my son through ivf, not here though, so i am not sure if the procedure is the same or not... i think it depends on the dr and the protocol they use, as far as which day they retrieve and which day they implant... if i remember correctly, it is implantation at day 2 or 3, after retrieval... were i had it done (Sweden) they have a policy of putting back only one embryo, as there is no scientific evidence that the more u put the better the chances of success (but having twins or triplets will put the pregnancy , the babies , at a higher risk)... as far as the drugs they used... they might completely suppress you, then stimulate ... that means a big havoc with ur hormones... ups and downs, lots of crying for me, over anything and everything... otherwise no side effects that i remember... after implantation they tell me to go about my live as usual, as far as work and such... no anesthesia needed for either retrieval or implantation, both were very simple and painless... the most difficult part was the wait after... it doesn't matter how often i tell you to relax... still u will think about it every day, and be tempted everyday to buy a pregnancy test to check if it worked... my husband's advice was if u are pregnant u will be for 9 months, so stop fussing, and relax (easier said then done) they wouldn't see me at the clinic for like 20 days after implantation ... it killed me, the wait... what u will u realize even if it was positive (and u are pregnant), then u have to hope that u don't have a miscarriage, which often happens (not more then the regular population, but better documented that's all) , so there comes a new worry that is out of your control. for me (ivf) it worked the first time ( i had many clomid cycles, and one iui that failed) u have to be comfortable with the dr u r working with... write all ur questions for him(her), be prepared... make sure you understand each and every drug they use, the dosage, if it is standard... the risk of over stimulation etc. let me know if u have any questions and i hope this helps :-)

Hi, I know it doesn't look appetizing, before I became a mom I would have said how yucky... now on the other hand, yes poop happens, I have 2 little ones , if I am alone with them (or if the facility doesn't have a changing table) (which isn't unusual here in dubai)I would go to a corner and try my best not to offend anyone like fairycakeyumm said and might change them in the stroller. the plane is a big challenge ... i still drag them both to the restroom... but have you seen how small that place is... my son is almost done potty training too now ... so when we are outdoors it becomes a bigger challenge finding a restroom in time ! so yes, seeing a mom change a diaper isn't a yucky seen to me anymore... lol

Hi, why don't you get a second opinion? if you are not comfortable taking progestrone and you are not sure how necessary it is to be on it... that's what I would do... i have taken progestrone while I was pregnant (ivf) first 2 weeks only, and didn't notice any side effects... or at least nothing as bad as other drugs I took to get pregnant :-)

I think the reason rumour felt the need the comment is because the title clearly asked the question "is 3 years too young for summer camp?" and she was giving her opinion - which is YES. I myself find it hard to understand why young children who cannot communicate their needs are sent to the care of fairly unqualifed caregivers here when their mothers don't even work. Children need to be socialised but not from birth to 3 years - those are the ages when mothers are the most important and while daycares and nurseries are hugely popular, strangers who have no emotional attachment to our kids spending large parts of the days bringing up really young children is detrimental to our society. I know of 1 year olds in the UK who spend 8 am- 6 pm in nursery and come home and fall asleep. Dr. Peter cooks book- mothering denied is an excellent book to read- especially if it is your choice socially to put your really young child in a nursery facilty when most studies show they are less stressed and do better in school in later years if they are at home with thier mother. "the NICHD Network reported in American Educational Research Journal (39, 133-164) that, although higher quality childcare was associated with better cognitive performance at four and a half years, the more time during these years that these children had spent in any type of non-maternal childcare, regardless of its quality, the more assertiveness, disobedience and aggression they showed with adults, both in kindergarten and at home." NICHD studies also found that when children spent more time in childcare, their mothers displayed less sensitivity when interacting with them at six, 15, 24, and 36 months of age. Sensitive, responsive mothering through the early years was the best predictor of social competence at six years, which in turn predicts schooling success. Early childcare also precludes longer breastfeeding, which, besides better health, leads to significantly higher IQs in adults. For example, those breastfed for 9 months, averaged 6 points higher IQ as young adults. (Journal of the American Medical Association, May 8, 2002). The movement for women's "liberation", while advancing women in the workplace, devalued and undermined their role as mothers. This denied infants' needs for mothering, and mothers' needs to provide it. There was another long term survery done by Penelope Leach in 1997, which also mirroed the same result. Children who spent early years with their mothers, by the third grade, were better , behaved, less aggressive and had higher etst scores. Just joining the debate- not trying to offend anybody...:) nicely said... thank you for taking the time to write. edited by asouheir on 13/07/2011

Hi, i used Emirates several times in the past year (since we have been here) i have a 1.5 year old and a 2.5 year old :-)... i always take my double stroller all the way to the gate. i don't use car seats on the plane... too much hassle... my older son never wants to sit in it anyways, and easier for him to sleep on the regular seat, my younger daughter, used the bassinet easily until she became too heavy for it... a few days before the flight call the airlines and explain your situation, they can block an extra seat for you (if the flight is empty)... on more recent flights i found it easier for me not to request the front seats (if flight is empty) but to ask them for back seats where i can raise the arm rest , so when they sleep it will be much more comfortable... and have a the extra seats... I hope this helps :-)

hi ladygodiva, I agree, roaccutane is a very serious drug, that should only be prescribed as a last resort for very severe acne. I do think you should call your dr. and inform him you are uncomfortable using this drug ( how old are you? because I do believe that the reason for the blood test is to make sure you are not pregnant) this medication causes very serious deformities to a fetus, if you become pregnant while on it... in all cases, there are many different combos that drs can prescribe to help control acne, including anti-biotics ( taken by mouth )... these antibiotics might have some side effects, but they are usually minimal and most people adjust to them quickly...
