Yes,healthy food options are scarce unless you want to eat subway all the time. Been on diet and its always a struggle when going to the mall and everyone is hungry to find a place that has healthy options too. In addition to that, I would like it if grocery stores would stock low calorie cordials. <em>edited by Asti on 22/09/2013</em>

I do think nursery does teach children social skills that perhaps they won't gain if they are in a constant one on one situation. Children need to learn about sharing and manners and other peoples space, a nursery environment where they are among others that have needs I believe helps. Also, to some extent they will be given a routine and discipline which will inevitably come when they start school, so I think it helps with that. Equally, I don't think a 2 yr old needs to be at nursery 5 days a week, but it can be a gentle introduction to school. I dont believe in this 'nursery teaches social skills' that everyone in Dubai seems to be hooked on. My older child never went to nursery and is great socially. Actually the kids in his class that were left at nursery 5 days a week for endless hours are the ones who seem to struggle. They seem 'switched off' like robots. <em>edited by Asti on 22/09/2013</em>

Aga Khan Early Learning Centre in Oud Metha. They allow the parents to come to the nursery until the child has settled in and is comfortable. Lovely spacious nursery. You would have to call though to see if they have space for another child as they only take a certain amount of children per class. (its not a pakistani nursery as the name implies,only part of the franchise. Lots of different nationalities attend) <em>edited by Asti on 22/09/2013</em>

Be careful of estate agents. What they promise and what they deliver are two very different things. She is probably just saying yes to whatever you want just so that she can plant that board and get her commision. If you have the opportunity to go home, why wouldn't you go? Well said and so true! People tend to forget this little morsel of truth. You will never be a citizen in this country.

She can always apply for teacher job at Choueifat school. They take anyone with a degree. Doesnt have to be educational either. Most people rarely work in the fields they studied for. Sad truth of life.

I had my knee operation at Emirates hospital. They were fab. This was quite a few years ago however I can say I have never had any problems since. I am a happy customer.

My DH's birthday is tomorrow and I've been searching for quite a while now for a romantic venue to celebrate his birthday and all is outdoors which is impossible at this time of year! Been to Reflets on his previous birthday and to pier chic on our anniversary in march... Where do I take him then??? The evenings are not that hot anymore and most of the restaurants have fans outside for the humidity. We had dinner outside yesterday and it was really nice.

Won't the traffic be really bad from DIFC to Mirdif during peak hours? I've been wondering about mirdiff.. I've looked on google maps and it suggests 15 mins and I've heard that travelling from Mirdif to DIFC (north to south) in the mornings will be better in terms of traffic as most people are travelling south to north? I'm expecting to hit some kind of traffic (I'm also assuming I'll get hideously lost at some point too!!) but just don't want to get stuck in it every day! Traffic to and from is terrible. It will never be 15 minutes. Dont know where googlemaps got that number from. During peak traffic it can take you up to an hour if your lucky. The south to north traffic has increased a lot the past few months with companies hiring again so dont bank on that.

Hilton resort and spa. The kids pool has a waterslide that they all love and the kids club is right next to the pool area. Staff very attentive and there is a lifeguard just for the kids pool. The kids pool is also shaded. We stayed for 3 nights and my kids didnt want to leave. Their rooms are decent size and large bathrooms. The restaurant near the lobby makes the best angus cheeseburgers ever!

8-1pm is very full on for a little 2 year old however quite a few nurseries in Dubai has made that move. I dont really know why. Its not in the best interest of the children thats for sure.

1. Stalk the customer around the shop. 2. Address them as MamSir. 3. Ask for a dirham when they are paying by cash. 4. Say 'yes' to everything even though you have no clue what the customer just said. 5. If they ask for a product you dont stock, just say 'out of stock' even though you never had it to start of with.

I bought a large Budda the day before we left Thailand as a keepsake. When thepackers arrived, they said it wasn't allowed to pack the Budda as it was sacred. I wrapped it in a towel and bought it here in our suitcase. No problem. Still love it! Maybe you just had lazy packers? Mine bubble wrapped mine and taped those boxes like nobody's business and they were all Thai.

Its not an issue. If they ask she can just explain. Only countries that are still strict about this is Saudi,Syria and Lebanon. In Dubai they will probably just be curious but couldnt care less.

I am currently seeing Dr Neda Nafei at Top Medical Centre - she is very good. Trained in California in 1991 so well experienced. http://www.topmedicaluae.com Hi does anyone have more reviews about Dr. Neda at Top Medical Centre? They have a Groupon right now and my scoliosis is really acting up, could use a chiropractic consultation! Or any other recommendations? Thanks :) Chiropractors in Dubai are usually booked up weeks in advance. If a chiro has to resort to groupon vouchers it means they are not good and need the clients.

You will be able to get all the goods at the pre-loved sale. They are pretty good. Most kids stick to the expected school gear and designated school bags and shoes. No trolley bags. Join the Dess mums page on facebook and introduce yourself. You might be able to score a few freebies too ;) The Mums are usually very generous and helpful.

Thanks. I found out the municipality in dubai have a hotline to call for abandoned cars. You just need to give them the plate number and make of the car. If it has been in the same space for longer than 15 days and the owner doesnt respond to any phone calls from police its considered abandoned and they will have it removed/confiscated. Do they take smaller children? My son is 3 and is crazy about rugby but all the clubs start at around 4. The Hurricanes take them young too. My 3 year old started there today and had a ball. Lots of Saffas,Aussies and NZ people :) Coaches are great with the little ones. Their venue is the 7's rugby stadium. Very well organised.

We bought a large painting and two very large buddha statues. None were confiscated. One officer did ask me what it was and I just said decorative statue for the house. Its because people here think its okay that shops ridiculously overprice things because of 'shipping costs' that they get away with it. Sorry but its greed. Plain and simple. They ship in bulk and get discounted rates too so the shipping excuse isnt really all that valid. On top of that the prices you see in other countries have tax added to them already too on top of the profit price and last time I checked UAE was supposedly 'tax free'? Sorry people but its time to stand up and say something otherwise we are all going to suffer in the long run.

I am hoping someone can point me in the direction of a specialist..I don't even know what kind :( My daughter, who rarely got sick back in the States, has been getting recurring high fevers for the past 2 years since we moved here. The fevers reach up to at least 103 and are accompanied by no other symptoms. They last 3 - 5 days and for the first year would occur every month. We went to many doctors who just kept insisting it was some kind of infection in her body, yet couldn't say what or where exactly, and would prescribe antibiotics. She was 4 years old at that time. The antibiotics did little to reduce her fever and the following month, the same thing would happen. We were eventually advised to immediately stop such high and frequent doses of antibiotics for such a young child. Our second year here, the fevers are occurring less frequently (6 weeks - 3 months between) so it seems its getting better? But when the fever comes, as it is now , its very high and it just knocks her down. I'm doing what I can to naturally boost her immunity but in addition to that, am concerned at what is triggering these fevers in the first place. Any have any experience with anything like this? Can recommend me to a specialist? I'm willing to go just about anywhere and pay anything if it means they can give me some answers, bi'idhnillah. Have you been living in the same accommodation since you arrived? Could it be mould in your home or airconditioning. It can be quite toxic if not treated especially on the young ones.

I have been to both islands many years ago when I was still single and free and just stayed at some budget places that doesnt exist anymore. Lol! Now married with children I am looking for a resort with kids club and nice view. Five star preferred as I havent had a holiday in ages and I deserve it! ;) Which one would you think would be nicer island to stay for 5 days? Any family resort recommendations? Thanks ladies. :)

2 weeks ago I booked a family holiday to HK and Bali next March. However, I have just found out I am expecting number 2 and I'm wondering whether to try to move our trip. I will be 33.5 - 35 weeks during the vacation. Cathay Pacific accepts a medical certificate up to 36 weeks and last time I went over my due date so I'm not worried about delivering early. I am just wondering if anyone has flown at this late stage and if it is a good idea. The HK part is a family visit whereas Bali will be pure relaxation. I am a fidget bum at the best of times and quite active so I think I will be fine.... thoughts anyone? Tia My first one was also overdue. Nr.2 came 6 weeks early! I would reschedule or cancel that holiday if I were you and no its not a good idea regardless of how healthy you think you are. Every pregnancy is different. I think your pregnancy hormones got to your head early this time ;)

I have just completed 3 months (daily) of radio and chemo for cervical cancer, both treatments carried out at Tawam hospital Al Ain. Nurses and doctors were exceptional cannot fault them at all. Back on 10/09/13 to hopefully get the all "clear" Daily chemo?!!! Wow,your a brave woman! Good luck with your results on 10 September. <em>edited by Asti on 06/09/2013</em>

Thanks ladies. She has been told by American hospital to go to Mafraq hospital in Abu Dhabi as its the only hospital in UAE with a gynaecologist oncologist so not much choice. I didnt know oncologist also have specialties since oncology is already a specialty on its own.

Find what works for you as a family. I have found that my son can concentrate better on homework if I just let him relax for 2hours after school and lunch. Let him play and unwind for a while before going back and doing what needs to be done.

Hi ladies Going through the trauma of trying to decide which schools to apply for for DD. Quick question though, can anyone tell me, whats the difference between British Curriculum, and National Curriculum of England? Totally confused! TIA! Its just different wording for the same thing. Best of luck with all your applications. It is a headache but great when you get into a good school. :)

Order it from the US. Much cheaper on their website than in the stores here. For some strange reason they never inform anyone of their sales. Even on their Facebook page they do not even mention it when there is a sale currently going on.

I bought my own and it works great. My hair feels so silky and smooth after use and the smell is just gorgeous. Defnitely worth it. I buy mine overseas as I find it to be overpriced in Dubai.

I have both but do not use my slow cooker anymore. Pressure cooker wins hands down. Cooks fast, meat is soft and tasty and my stews are always a success.
