Even with extreme budgeting...would you have enough money to pay for school fees? Would you be able to take a loan for your older son at least? Otherwise I think Simpleasabc's recommedation of letting your son redo a year in the home country is a good idea. Best of luck.

Perhaps wait a bit longer... Your 3 year old will be going to school soon and trust me that would be a job in itself! (playdates,school functions,sport etc.) I feel so sad for the other kids whose mums have to work fulltime and cant attend any of the school stuff as their employers arent flexible. The teachers are great with them however they are always crying because they are sad. If you have to go back to work for financial reasons and there is really no other choice try to get a job where the employer is more flexible however listening to other working mums I have been told companies in Dubai are getting more strict. At the end of the day its your choice. Both has its benefits but children grow up very fast...

It is my understanding that this applies to Government and Private schools operating under the local curriculum as set by the Ministry of Education and not the overseas curriculum schools who are 'sub-governed' (for want of a better term) by the KHDA. I really hope that is the case. Its already difficult enough to get a flight ticket home with all tbe flights full. If everyone has the same holidays it would be a nightmare. This wouldnt work in an expat country.

Most people use cars to go to work. Public transport has improved in the past few years but its not at the stage where people use it to go to work. Unless you work inside a mall or something as they stop at two big malls.

You must of caught the norovirus that was doing the rounds in Dubai... Usually september and october are the worst months as schools start and everyone returns from their home countries with new sets of virusses to contaminate Dubai. Lol! Oh the joys of expat life. Good luck. Stay hydrated.

Really expensive here. If you are UK why not try something like the Open University, if you are disciplined enough to self study and live here? You have to have a UK address for the course material. Will a shop and ship UK address be sufficient? Just want to improve on my skills as I have been a housewife for 6 years(!) Might not return to workforce any time soon but want the peace of mind I have something to show if I do.

Google weather says 0% chance of rain however humidity is only 30% today. A big drop from last week's 85%. The heat I can take but humidity is a killer for me. Regardless....this is not normal August weather. Guess global warming has some perks.

For some strange reason my kids love the play area in the food court in Dubai Mall. Food court is the one in the same area where all the kids clothing is. They are both boys so they love running about and going down the slides. It was dhs35 last time we were there.

he has had his visa cancelled this morning unfortunately That's pretty unusual - most companies issuing redundancy would at least wait a month or two before visa cancellation to allow the person some grace time to find a new job. I assume he signed for his end of service payment on visa cancellation, is he sure it was correct etc? Not necessarily most companies I work with cancel visas immediately :-( Hope I never work for those companies then. Thats just mean.

Quite a lot of people in the IT industry have been made redundant in the past two weeks.... I have 4 (very senior and experienced) IT friends who heard last week they are now terminated and they said it was big groups of people due to downsizing so I am guessing a lot of people are going to be looking for IT jobs in Dubai. Bad time of the year too as most managerial and recruiting staff are taking a break before starting again in September. Can your spouse not sponsor you in the meantime until employers are back in Dubai after the holidays? Your chances of getting a job then should maybe be a bit better. <em>edited by Asti on 30/07/2013</em>

Medical doctors/Pediatricians have a total of 4 hours of training overall about breastfeeding in their years of education. I wouldnt put to much importance on what your doctor said as he is probably just quoting his 4hr pamphlet. Do what you feel is right for you and your child. Good luck.

To be honest, gross as it might sound, it may not matter! I had a fungal infection in both toe nails (sorry told you it was gross) and I went to a podiarist. He told me that it was an urban myth that you can get infections from instruments and the fungal infections were caused by incorrect cutting. He told me never, ever let the girls cut your toe nails. Daza has it exactly right (according to his advice anyway) Didnt know that. Thanks for the info.

Filipinas (if that is her nationality) prefer to live in Satwa. They can rent a room for dhs600 per month there. Good public transport all around. dhs600 doesn't get them a room. It gives them a mattress (upper or lower) in a bunk bed in a room with usually 3 or 4 bunk beds. Yes,thats right. Room sharing they call it. Nobody really sleeps alone in their room. If they had a room to themselves they would probably sublet some of the space for others to 'room share'.

My son is in a nursery where there is 30 kids in the class. 1 teacher and 1 assistant however there is rarely more than 20 in the class as people do not always put their kids for a full 5 days a week in nursery. His class is huge and they are happy,so there are exceptions. The teachers are fab too.

Is the credit earned by Open University recognized by real universities? Yes,they are fully accredited as they are offered by universities. There is an open university in UK and in Australia.

Most people do the Open University thing. Study online and work at the same time. Takes a bit longer but it can be done. One of my friends just got her marketing degree that way. Took her 5 years to finish but she completed it and was happy with her experience.

Its easy to make your own. Just buy a spray canister at Daiso,add water and fabric softener (1/8th) and 2 teaspoons baking soda. Mix together and you have Febreze! It actually smells and stays longer than the supermarket Febreze too.

If you can look at an ultrasound and figure out where the site is that needs to be biopsied then a doctor who gets paid thousands should be able to do it too. Why does this happen so often in Dubai? In other countries the doctor will get sued and you rarely hear these horrendous stories. It just happens way too often here. <em>edited by Asti on 08/07/2013</em>

Lol! My DH gets so annoyed everytime they ask for his coins. I told him to let it go as he will be frustrated all day every day as its normal in Dubai. Have to agree about the sales assistants following you around store....cant stand it and I walk out usually. <em>edited by Asti on 06/07/2013</em>

My sons nursery believes in gradual separation and it worked beautifully with us. Some kids just need it gradually. It really depends on the child's temperament. Nurseries should be able to adapt to that.

I know a large hotel chain that uses the packet eggs. They say it is a health and safety issue due to egg shell! Eg. cracking 200 eggs and the last one has shell in it. Agree that on request, a chef should be able to accommodate a request like this due to allergies. I think a place like LPQ would just have a cook and not a proper chef. Proper chef's are expensive to hire.

Places that arent open for sitting down are usually available for take aways. The government gave business owners the option to pay for an extra ramadan permit this year to do take aways. Many more business will take this option this year in order not to lose profit since the rent keeps going up. Guess we will see lots of families hiding out in their cars eating take aways. Lol! As far as I know eating in your car amounts to eating in public as well. Not sure it's recommended as an ok thing to do in Ramadan. Its not recommended but if your hungry+thirsty and far from home what other option do you have?
