A sale in Dubai is when the shops marks down the items to their actual normal price. The price they would be in other countries as per normal retail. In other countries a sale is when something is significantly marked down than the normal price. Everybody here is apparently rich and we all want to overpay for everything.

My husband and I booked flights from Melbourne to Bali (6-7 hour flight) with our twins who will be 5 months old by then before realising that the airline we are flying does not have any baby bassinets on board. This will be our first flight with the babies. Just wondering if anyone has any tips re flying with 5 month old babies ie what to pack, how to cope with fact we will not have bassinets to place the babies into etc etc? Any baby flying tips much appreciated! Flights to Bali are very bumpy. They will most probably sleep through most of it as babies tend to enjoy the movement. I would suggest that each of you have a baby sleep on your lap. Eat and drink before your flight so that you wont need anything when you are onboard. Request bulkhead seats as they have more legroom and you would be able to pad the front with blankets for your babies to lie down on when its not bumpy. Not much else you can do really. That age is the best to travel with kids. So easy.

Avoid wooden beds as they tend to squeek and make noise with movement and wake up the kids. Learned that lesson the hard way.

We have a voucher so I can only buy at certain stores. Emax,Jackys,Grand stores,Sharaf DG, Geant, Jumbo electronics are my options. I'm hoping one of those stores has Maytag or Miele!

There is also a lot 'for rent' signs in Al Warqa which is just a few minutes down the road from DSO. We toured some of the apartments there last weekend and they were quite large. Its a short drive from Mirdif City centre too.

Personally I would take English College. They have primary and secondary so you dont have to worry about secondary places when your child is older (which is also very competitive in Dubai,Lol!). Its a well established and lovely school.

Same happened to me but it happened in my home country. When I returned to Dubai with my yellow hair I went straight to salon ink and just paid up the big bucks to look normal again. They did an excellent job too. Dont try to fix this yourself. It is a science fixing hair colour,so let the professionals do it.

My cousin teaches at a Choueifat school (not in the UAE). She has a marketing degree and worked for a Hotel Spa before she was hired by Choueifat to teach 6 year olds. She had a 6 week training in the Sabis method before she started teaching, that is the extent of her teacher training. She hates everything about the school and the teaching method, as do most of the 'teachers' apparently. She is sticking it out for another few years to make money, she makes a lot of extra cash tutoring kids as young as 5. There was a lady on this forum a few years back who was also a teacher there. She said the only requirement they have is that the person must hold any degree and must be single to be a teacher. (She had a marketing degree as I recall). They will teach you the rest. Nobody at the school is really qualified to do any type of teaching but somehow they get away with it. Dont know how that works. There are a lot of unqualified teachers working in schools here. Really? I know in nurseries there are a lot of unqualified people but other schools too? Scary!

Keep in mind,if you buy a house here you only own the house itself. The land the house is built on you can never own... With the laws here changing every 5 seconds I wouldnt take that gamble. Rather invest your money in a country where you own the land and the house and have legal rights. Thats just my two cents of advice.. <em>edited by Asti on 10/06/2013</em>

I love carbs but my tummy looks so big now too. :( Dont know if I can cut out carbs totally... Surely eating proteins all the time is really boring? Nothing like a potato or nice rice and gravy. Lol!

There arent malls in Silicon Oasis. Its relatively new area still with lots of construction. You will find some shops. Dubizzle is usually checked for SO prices.

Kuta,Seminyak and Legian are where all the shops,restaurants and nightlife is and I would book there. The atmosphere there is very exciting.Lots of families and also single people. The beach in Kuta is really nice. Nusa Dua is an area full of fabulous five star hotels. Sea has little waves and a lot quiter. Nice if you like it really quiet otherwise you will get bored (like we did). Sanur is also quiet and low waves. Its nicknames Snore by the locals because nothing really happens there but a lot of people like going there as accommodation is supercheap and the shallow waves are great for babies. Ubud is good for cultural trips and for those people trying to 'find' themselves and do yoga and meditation. Not at the beach but lots of greenery and nature.

With regards to the safe that your husband stores the passport it...there are loads of tutorials on youtube that show you how to open a safe without a key. I once forgot our number combination and followed a tutorial on how to open it and it worked! (I just had to slam the safe really hard on left/right (cant remember). Depends on what type of safe you have.

Theres a very small shop opposite Sega World in Dubai mall that does personalised chocolate favors for any occasion. Cant remember the name though. They have a chocolate fountain in the entrance.

At grade 10 I would say that it would be best if you place your son in a boarding school in Spain to finish his last few years of schooling. The adjustment and language barrier at such a crucial stage would be too much for him. Lots of flights between Spain and Dubai for him to come visit during school holidays.

At that age you child should be going to a proper school starting FS2/KG1 and not a nursery this September. This has always been the rule in Dubai. Im surprised you didnt know this. Surely all his classmates already have places at proper schools this September?

No its not legal but lots of people do it anyways. Its only if your maid gets into trouble that the authorities pay attention to it otherwise they turn a blind eye.

I love Promod, they have their own tailor also, so they will alter any skirt or dress for you to make it the perfect length. Perfect for shorties like me :) Their skirts are also way to long for me. I think they cater to tall people as Im average height. Nice to know they have tailor services.

Hamilton Aquatics are running classes at Wellington International and Jumeira Primary school over summer. Both close to SZR. There is also swim lessons at Rotana hotel in SZR. <em>edited by Asti on 04/06/2013</em>

Ooh online! Thats even better! :)

My 3 year old only attends 3 days a week. I know plenty of 3 year olds who do not go to nursery yet as some schools only accept kids for FS2 at age 4. We usually take him to play areas where they quickly make friends. Also if your older child will be going to school here in Dubai you will practically spend every weekend attending birthday parties or picnics and playdates. Take the little one along and there will be other mums with their litte ones. Dont worry. Once your here you will actually wish for a quiet day! ;)

My son was in UAS. Brilliant,well organized school,lovely teachers who really take an interest in your child. Would highly recommend them. We only moved him out as we couldnt afford the constant rising school fees anymore (we pay out of our own pockets).
