Hard rock is a nice 4 star hotel however you have to pay for the kids club and the rooms are small. Also lots of drunk Aussies all over resort taking up the sunloungers around the pool. Some rooms also hear all the noise from the local nightclub,so you and your children might be listening to rock until the early hours of the morning. Lol! You might get lucky and get a quiet room though... Padma is known for being one of the best when it comes to children. Intercontinental too. Conrad Bali. Nikko Resort. Nusa Dua Resort. Ayana resort.

Caribbean island school trip?! Seriously? Is this in secondary or in primary? If its in secondary I think my kids will be going to boarding school in my home country in the future where people are still in touch with reality. Children here are so spoilt.

Best to drive over to Rashid pediatric clinic and make an appointment or get more information. They never return calls or emails. In Dubai you need to be pushy to get things done otherwise nothing will happen. It might look first world here in some parts but its still very much a third world country. They would be best to help out your child and the most affordable option. Good luck :)

Defnitely not. The KHDA ratings are not an accurate reflection of the school. More about which school has the most arabic lessons infused into it to impress the school 'judges'. Check out the school itself and follow your gut instinct as a mother. Its always right.

Lol! I have two boys at the exact same age. I also have 123Magic book which I ordered from Amazon when my first one was just a baby. I follow those rules and it works a charm. Its not always perfect but most of the time things run according to plan (I dont expect them to ever be perfect though ;). I get a lot of compliments on my boys behaviour especially when we travel to other countries. Another book that I also highly recommend for toddlers are ''How to talk so kids will listen". Sometimes its not what you say but the way you say it. I really think you need a child psychology degree just for bringing children into this world! Lol! ;)

I think if you have a breadmaker you can just put all the ingredients in the breadmaker and it does the job for you. My mum makes banana bread and raisin bread as snacks when we used to visit.

You only need yellow fever vaccine if you are coming from an infected country. UAE isnt on that list,so you are safe to go and enjoy you holiday. Kenya is gorgeous and you all will love it!

Every time I buy something with my supplementary credit card my DH gets an sms with the amount that has been spent. Is there any way this can be deactivated? It really annoys me that he knows of every little thing I buy. Of course he is going to know sooner or later when the statement comes in :-) Lol! I'm okay with him seeing it on a statement as I'm not a huge shopper but does he really have to be notified of it every moment every time? Argh! We are with Mashreq. I think I'm also going to withdraw some cash. Sometimes I just want to go splurge a little on myself and not have to explain it immediately. Tired of just shopping for groceries and kids stuff.

I was in the same position as you were two years ago. I had to choose between DESS and another school that was very helpful and I quite liked. Everyone told me DESS is best,but I was really put off by the surly admin staff at the school. They are not warm and welcoming at all. However I spoke to several parents that told me you rarely have any contact with the admin staff and the teachers at the school are really good and love their jobs. I went ahead and chose DESS. I cant be happier. My DS is absolutely thriving and doing so well academically. They really push a child to go further than you could ever imagine and it's true,you dont have any contact with the admin staff. Also the school has a real family feel to it. They are also really fantastic in the sport department if you have a sporty child ;) . Thats my experience so far. Just to add,the grumpy admin person I was referring to is not at the school anymore. Current admin I have found to be lovely (the little contact I have had with them). <em>edited by Asti on 13/03/2013</em>

No, there's a government rule - it depends if the days are consecutive or not. I think it's something like 25 days or 21 consecutive days. Interestingly though, it just means that the school is not obliged to take the child back/offer a place in the next year level - ie they can make the child repeat. I've had my kids out longer (a GEMS school) and whilst I did have to explain why, there were no problems. Your right. It is a KHDA rule of 21 days but at the end of the day its the school's decision itself to take notice of it or overlook it. Most schools overlook it.

Im too scared to move as all the landlords are rubbing hands together plotting their rental increase. Our landlord actually gave us discount last year but I think he will probably push up rent again come June.... I wonder if this constant rental increase is ever going to stop in Dubai.

We can see the dark smoke clouds from outside our window and when we were driving earlier we thought it was rain clouds and then realised its fire smoke. Hope no one got hurt as it looks as if the fire is out of control. Garhoud bridge is best avoided now and that area for sure.

Genuine question here, honestly not trying to stir... but sometimes I'm in a shop and a baby is screaming blue murder, you know, that 'I'm really really hungry or poopy' scream, and the mum is just calmly looking through the clothes or whatever (maybe she just fed the baby, who knows) does it happen when you have a baby that you get to a point where you can tune out the crying? I only ask coz it drives me nuts as I feel so bad for the baby to be crying like that, that I wonder if it's some biological thing where the mum just doesn't 'hear' the baby any more? Like, if she is really stressed, does the body just tune it out? ! :( and this is what this thread was about orginally........!!!!! Yes,you can tune it out to a certain degree but the annoyance does creep up after a while. I have never looked through clothes as my child is crying though. Lol!

I find two year olds behave themselves quite good on planes for some reason. Especially if you talk about it before you go,making them excited. By the time the plane takes off and the adrenaline has worn off they usually pass out. Take a night flight if possible so most of the time goes by sleeping. Choose a bulkhead row seat as it has more legroom. There after you can show him cartoons on the tv,do some playdough and draw pictures. The stress of the anticipation of the flight is often worse than the actual flight.

Thanks Wife of 777... After I posted, I did think... duh! Dragon Mart! But good to know that someone else has been and seen. Snowflake, sorry, but this was just the property developer, Nakheel. I think they do it themselves! Really not sure. Those tiles at Dragonmart are gorgeous. Wish I owned a house here in Dubai every time I see all the lovely things they sell. No way I am spending money on my rental.

My son sometimes cried his head off if I didnt carry him nonstop,so in order for my arms to get a bit of rest I had to push him around in his stroller whilst he was crying. It broke my heart but I couldnt help it. You never know what life is going to throw at you and children do not come with a manual. Each one is different and you just have to adapt. Dont judge too quickly. One day it might be you and then you will understand that everything isnt black and white.

Ive had this done at both spinneys and park and shop. I think I preferred the park and shop one, but it may be because of resolution of pic. I second Park&Shop. They are much more attentive and the picture quality is great. They use edible rice paper. It has no taste in case you were wondering ;)
