There must be an RV bug in the air. DH was talking about it last night and how he really wants to go on a US holiday with an RV and go visit all the National parks! Im not a happy camper though so told him it has to be a luxury RV! Lol! ;)

My Dh just came back from an overseas trip and bought me a heap of beef stock by request. Couldnt find any anywhere in Dubai. Thought I just had bad luck but it seems like it's nowhere in stock at any of the supermarkets.

If you are still newlyweds with a baby then its perfectly normal to have a rough patch in the marriage. Add onto that a MIL for 3 months and any human being would go mental. I feel you should wait this out and not rush to decisions. Moving out will solve nothing. Also let him know that his words hurt you and he should be careful as to what he says as words hurt deeper and longer. Men dont always realize that, as you are probably replaying thing he said in your head over and over. Like Dr.Phil says 'you dont necessarily solve problems,you learn how to manage them'.

Everything is replaceable.It will take time and money but it can be done. Just go to your consulate and apply for a new birth certificate and passports. I do think however for lost passports you would also need a police report for your consulate. Neurospinal hospital at Jumeira beach road is fantastic. They operated on MIL and she is good as new. This was a few years ago now but she still goes sometimes for a checkup as she is elderly.

Switch it off against the wall and switch on again. The channels will then appear. Apparently it only takes 30 minutes to activate but they always tell customers 24hrs. The technicians also mostly forget that you should switch it on and off before the channels starts loading! I had to find this out by accident and pure frustration. After reading this thread I'm grateful I have two boys who likes to sleep in till 9 am or sometimes longer. Only problem is they also like to go to bed at 9pm and after a busy day I,m knackered by 9pm but I think its a small price to pay. School mornings are a pain though but nothing can be done about that. Lol! :)

I heard that Jumierah College which is a high school with a good reputation, if rather expensive, is opening a new primary dept. in September so they will have lots of places and be keen to fill them I assume. They already closed all Primary applications due to overwhelming amount of applications already received. Just saw the notice on their website.

We are currently looking into this too. Dont want to always stay at my parents home as they are old and get grumpy after a while of having little kids running around during their constant naps. Lol! Quite a few people I know do this actually so it is doable. Just keep paying your levy and have someone check up on it once in a while.

Tumble, just to let you know i perfectly understand you! we should be coming over in the same period for a 2/3 months' stay and decide weather we definitely want to make the move on september... my son is 3 and a half and currently goes to a bilingual school (we are italian), which leaves me a little anxious on having him go to school without speaking english... let's say he is familiar with the language, but fully understanding and speaking is something else!! luckily i won't be working right away, but still get stressed with the news (linguistic above all) he'll need to face... then again, i know kids react a lot better and adapt quicker than we expect! sorry i have no advice for you, but i thought i'd drop a line to say hello :-) http://dubaimania.net/ This is a website for italians in dubai. Im sure they would be able to advise you with regards to your son not knowing english.

For that amount of money you can send your child to good private boarding schools overseas. Dont have children in that school but really feel bad for parents who do. Its very disruptive and worrying to any parent. Best of luck and I hope there are positive results somehow.

Just got end of term report for year 9 BC child and all's good. I understand the levels and abc"s but for french and maths it's just a letter (no number) any idea where I can find out what they mean? Can't find anything on school website. Thanks A+ 95 A 89 A- 83 B+ 78 B 75 B- 72 C+ 68 C 65 C- 62 D+ 58 D 55 D- 52 F+ 46 F 38 F- 32 These are usually the percentages for letter grades however I would clarify it with the teacher just to be sure.

Its like comparing a great school (DESS) with tradition and elite reputation with a good school (GRD). No comparison really and not even in the same league. If you want to compare great schools then it should be DESS and JESS (both non-profit schools coincidentally).

Thanks all, I am not an active user of Expat woman, normally a reader not a poster, I have been here 3 1/2 years, so my count log speaks and mainly of my post were in the early days.... I am 99% sure my husband will not be looking on here, he doesn't know how it all works etc.... I have spoken with DECAS and they have advised me not to go to the court and go back to the UK and deal with it from there. I am just checking to see if there is a block on our passports at the moment, but endless calls at the moment, I'm not getting anywhere!!! Thank you all for everything and all your kind support, it is helping me... Nippy xx Good they thought its best to fight it out in the UK and not stay here. Makes sense. Im sure whatever you cant sell now perhaps you have friends who can help you sell stuff and forward the money to your UK account. Every cent counts from now on. Did you pay deposit for school fees? Maybe they will refund you that considering the circumstances...

In Spinneys I saw a whole family ( won't say what nationality as I will get lynched) have a spray of their underarms through their clothes with a deodorant - WT? Just been to Spinneys and they had loads of butterball turkeys. I guess it depends on which branch you go. The ones in Jumeira are always out of stock for some reason. Must be a big turkey lover community. Lol!

DD went to a b'day party where she got a Siamese fighter fish as a return gift. We would like to give it away to someone who is a fish lover and has experience. If you post your interest, I will leave my email address for a day... You can drop them off at ACE hardware at Festival city. They have an aquarium section They sell fish other people do not want in addition to their own stock. Cant believe people are giving away fish as a goodie bag gift.

Cant speak for Safa but I've had experience with Horizon school which is the sister school of Safa and JPS. If Safa is like Horizon I would say hands down JPS. Academic standards are far far higher, excellent teachers. Classes are about 24-27 which is the same at Horizon so wld guess thats the case at safa. Communication is excellent, just enough homework. PE at JPS is good aswell. As far as I understand Horizon and Safa are no longer sister schools. Don't you think that the class size of 24-27 kids is too crowded? The class size of DS at the current school is 18 Most british schools have that class size. I know with american schools the class sizes are usually smaller.

I dont think this is always true. In my DS's class the brightest child is also the most youngest...he made the cutoff date by 2 days. Every child is different and a parent should know if their child is ready or not. The problem here in Dubai is they have to be in the schooling system by 4yrs old whether they are ready or not. I still think its way to early but thats just me.

They put toys around the classroom and let the child play. They will ask the child 'what is your name' How old are you?' Basic questions like that to determine if the child can speak english. Mostly just two or three questions for the child. Some schools also ask the child to draw a straight line on a piece of paper. Thats about it. Nothing big about it. Sometimes the teacher will ask the parents a few questions too like 'did your child attend a nursery?''what is his/her favourite play activity?' My son refused to talk during his assessment for some reason however he got into a great school regardless. He did play with the toys and draw the line etc. Just refused to talk! Lol!

p.s. If your going from blond to brunette with supermarket hairdye choose a colour that has some red pigment in it (like auburn) as blonde hair has all the red pigments removed thats why sometimes it turns out green if you choose a brown with no red pigment. The red pigment later on fades away anyways then you will have brown hair.

I pay for fullhead highlights,wash&blowdry and hair trim if I want it...dhs440. I think it just depends on the salon. If the salon is in 'new dubai' then you will pay more or if its in jumeira you will pay way more. Theres many salons in the older part of Dubai that does a great job and do not ask as much.You just have to find them. Sorry...wont be giving the number of my salon as last time I did that I couldnt get appointment anymore and had to change salons! Lol!

Pregnancy hormones? I ate as if I was paid to do so when I was pregnant! Lol! A family friend had HCG injections done and lost 12kgs in 3 months. I dont know if its still off as I havent seen her in ages but I do recall she struggled for years to lose weight and this was the only thing that worked for her.

My MIL was awful in the beginning of our marriage (making up stories about me and gossiping about me to others) however my DH went to her and put his foot down. Told her that I'm his wife and she must respect that and he will not tolerate anyone putting me down or doing anything negative towards me. I have never had a problem since in fact we get along fantastically now and its been a few years already.
