Hi. I am moving to Dubai soon. I'm not very fond of paying rent, so am looking at buying a 'second-hand' apartment (rather than a new one). If you have purchased real estate in Dubai, would you mind sharing your experience? I am aware I have to pay a 1-2 % fee to the agent, plus any legal fees. Are there any other costs, including set-up costs, plus ongoing maintenance etc.? Plus, is it advisable to use a lawyer? Much appreciated. Read carefully old threads of buying property in Dubai. Its not like other countries and rules here changes rapidly and its not to the advantage of buyers....A lot of people can afford to buy their own property but do not do so as they know better.

According to this, the Nail Spa chain does the moulded Bio Sculpture: http://www.thenailspa.com/treatments/perfect_enhancements.aspx but I think their locations are all in New Duba, you could check on their site to see if there's something near you. Thanks! They have a branch in Garhoud where I live but they are so overpriced. Guess I just have to pay up. Hope DH wont be complaining....

Traffic is terrible everywhere on new year and you will take hours to reach your home. Lots of people book into hotels so that they dont have to drive back home for new years.

Thanks. Bio sculpture is a mix of gel nails and nailspolish. A bit like a combo of Shellac and Essie but it doesnt make your nails brittle like gel/acrylic nails and is a bit softer and more natural. Will look at their page again. Thanks.

There must be a main water valve that you can turn to switch off all water. Your water pump is clearly broken and now the water is overflowing on a Friday. Try Fixitall. Dont know if they work on Fridays though. http://www.fixitall.ae/ourservices.html

Most 5 star hotels in Dubai do this. You have to call them and reserve your turkey in advance as each hotel only do a certain amount of turkey take aways. Jumeira beach hotel is very popular and get booked up quite quickly too.

This only encourages people not to use public transport and get their own car. More cars on the road, more congestion. Problem=Not solved.

Austerity Christmas. What a nice term. Havent heard it before. Just received an email from my dad that we should all just buy small items for each other and nothing expensive as we have to remember what Christmas is really about. Hehe! I like this new trend.

Thanks ladies. I would prefer these toys go to disadvantaged children as they are really lovely toys (rainforest jumperoo, tricycle etc.). They gave my children so much joy and I would like that to continue for another child who cant afford it. I will call ELC and try to find out. Also have loads of McQueen backpacks that are brand new and never been used (for some reason family members keep buying it as gifts. Lol!)

Get someone from the SA Consulate to call them in Pretoria. They can and should help you. They are always hiding in the back offices, so demand to see/speak to them instead of being fobbed off by the (non SA) clerks at the front counters...arrghh.. Hehe! So true. I wonder why they dont employ South Africans to work at the front desk?

At the moment Horizon and Safa are both standard schools and kind of equal but I do feel Horizon is starting to outshine Safa and will continue to do so in the future. Safa is also expanding rapidly and that always bring a decline in standards.

The note's battery life is long and needs charging about every 2-3 days. Sometimes only after 4 days. The S3's battery life is very short. I need to charge mine every day. There are however apps you can download to lenghten your battery life. I have dropped my mobile once but nothing happened to it. I do feel though that it might break easily, especially the screen. Oh no,was just about to buy S3 but dont want a phone I have to charge everyday. :(

http://www.feelunique.com/ They do free delivery worldwide. Not the large bottles though They tend to be supplied by salons only and i dont think here will sell them to you Yes,you will only get average size bottles online and in shops. Large bottles are only sold to professional salons. You could try calling Nazih Trading they provide salon equipments and stuff to salons in Dubai. They have a shop in SZR too. http://www.nazih.com/ edited by Asti on 03/12/2012

Evelyn7- you seem to recommend/promote Fionna heavily on here and threads about schools... What exactly does she do to help get into the schools here because frankly you can get all the input/advice needed but unless she can put you to the top of these waitlists I'm curious where the 6,000 AED goes and the point of it? Evelyn7 is probably Fiona promoting her own business.

I have australian friends who have children in VISS and they are very happy parents. To be honest I have only ever heard great things about VISS. Dont know anyone with children in AIS but I do know its mostly arabic children who go there and they segregate boys and girls. The principal and teachers are mostly aussies. At VISS the children all go to school together regardless of gender and there are a lot more aussie kids. I think both schools have school bus transport available but Im not sure.

I would just extract it. A root canal is painful and you dont want to end up with having one because you took the easy (filling) route. I had all 4 of mine removed in one go. No more problems or potential issues. I healed quickly too.

Assessments are usually done in batches per week and may last up to two months of assessments. If they havent called you yet it probably means you are in a later batch. They contact closer to the time. Well thats how most assessments in Dubai work. I was literally called two days before the assessment (not at JPS). edited by Asti on 29/11/2012
