Options are: Place your child in a school that finishes after 3 (like Choueifat). Sign up your child for after school activities at her school. Hire a maid. Discuss options with your employer (not have lunch hour and go earlier home?). Most people just give in and hire a maid as you will need someone when your child is sick or on days when the school closes due to unforeseen circumstances (it happens).

Panadol is safe for pregnant ladies. Pubic bone pain is normal and sometimes gets worse towards the end of pregnancy. I had it for both my pregnancy and panadol helped a lot. Your body is adapting to a lot of changes and are stretching like never before. Dont worry. We have all been there. ;)

I recently had our 2+3 seater sofas and 2 armchairs re-upholstered. I used Khaleel 0506759186. Was very happy with the work and you can haggle over the price. I can't remember exactly but it was around Dhs 5500 for he whole lot and that included new foam cushions for all seats and new scatter cushions. You can buy a beautiful new couch for that price! Lol!

He would move very quickly up in the belt colours if he already has a karate background. Better to earn something properly than have a black/brown belt and not know how to do something properly. It would help him also if he wants to compete in professional competitions one day to do things correctly. Help him understand the big picture. I know its harder said than done for a 9 year old. I don't think any amount of fires will stop people from dropping butts from balconies. I think the only way you can really feel somewhat safe is to live on the first floor. Living in a building, you are only as safe as the most careless tenant is... True. I also dont understand why they have to build buildings so high up and with so many floors. I just think its unsafe and a recipe for disaster. My building only has 7 floors and that more than enough for me.

I also just place an email address. That way I can delete the hagglers and people who didnt read the advert properly from start to finish and not to mention the accent issues you will have over the phone. There are some nationalities whom I can barely understand when they speak english. Lol!

The cakes from Park and Shop in Jumeira are really really nice and they have a catalogue too. I find them a lot better tasting than Spinneys and best thing is they are affordable!

A Teacher's Perspective... Speaking as an experienced secondary school teacher, the only thing that works in the long term is sincere parental involvement, encouragement and role-modelling. If children see their parents are genuinely interested in reading, thinking and discovering new things and that they themselves dedicate time to this, it shapes their whole approach to education and work. Sharing activities (not doing tasks for them but being involved and in discussion with them about their tasks) from a young age means that this sort of work has positive associations for them. I have taught and tutored many children whose parents 'farm out' these tasks to paid help and the children are inevitably reluctant and miserable - they see work as punishment and increasingly become a passenger in their own education; they remain mentally passive - unable to be passionate about anything remotely intellectual - and see work as something to just 'get done'. With the top set children I teach, I have 100% attendance on parents evening and the parents are just as interested in the work as the children are (this is not a coincidence): not in the grades they get, but the work itself. In psychological terms, if the parent's focus is on the content of learning and the effort a child puts into it, children are much more motivated and encouraged. Too much focus on the final grades is very demotivating in the long-term and encourages terrified rote learning (the Choueifat system) and an inability to take risks or think innovatively and creatively. It's all about establishing a warm and positive environment for the work, having a regular but humane routine and using the work as a stimulus for family discussion. Just thought I'd throw that out there... Hope some of it is useful :-) Nice bit of info. Thanks :)

We went there 3 weeks ago. I was not impressed at all. More sand areas than actual grass areas and the park is filthy. Dirt and garbage everywhere and between the plants. There is staff everywhere riding around but no one seems to do any actual cleaning up. The beach looked nice though and there was a play area on the beach for kids too.

She is the only one that can resolve her insecurity issues in her relationship. Step 1 is talking to her husband to get clarity on questions she has.She doesnt want to upset him and avoids talking to him which clearly indicates they have communication issues too. I find it strange that she would first ask you if there is something going on before even asking her husband.

Ipad is basically a portable small laptop that is lightweight.It has all the functions a laptop also has and some more like downloading applications. A Samsung Galaxy tab or tablet is the same thing as an ipad but just a different brand. A kindle is more of a ebook reader. You cant go wrong with either Ipad or Samsung. Just depends on your budget as Samsung tends to be more affordable.

Safa Nursery which is near the French Bakery - you can drop off anytime betweem 8am ad 9am. I presume its the same with the other branch which is next to Safa park. Do you know their pricings? Its not available on their website.

Still havent found a nursery... :( They seem to start too early or their fees are too high (especially the ones in Jumeira). Im now looking into nurseries in Mirdif. Garhoud would of been perfect for me but I cant place my child in a nursery like that.

Thanks. I decided not to place my youngest there. I have heard so many horror stories from other parents who used to have children there. Most of the points you mentioned were also told to me. Its too bad as the location is very convenient but I dont want my child to suffer because of incompetence.

Even though the booking websites says that you cant have two kids in a hotel room most hotels look the other way. When booking just put down one child unless you have two teenagers. We stayed at Fairmont (which is connected to Raffles mall) and the rooms were huge and there was a big couch in the room too. Swissotel the Stamford is also very nearby (on the other side of Raffles Mall) and their breakfast buffets are really nice. Their lobby is connected to the MRT station exit which is very convenient if you have kids.

This is going to sound weird but join a gym. Exercise releases happy hormones and you might even meet other people there. Another option is to go to an exercise group at a park in the morning. Many parks like Safa have exercise groups where ladies meetup and a trainer coaches them or maybe even do yoga. Sorry about your mom. Best of luck :)

I am feeling like I really need to go back to my home country. I am from the US and even though things are tough there, I prefer to be there with my family and friends dealing with tough stuff instead of here with no friends and just my spouse. I miss so many things about home...green things...thunderstorms...shopping where I can find my size...people who know how to drive...stuff like that. I can't wait to get back to the US. That's all I can say... It seems like only people from the US feel that way. I feel the same and all my friends from the UK and SA think I'm crazy. I would kill for a thunderstorm! (figuratively speaking, not literally :) ) I love thunderstorms too. And the beautiful rainbow afterwards. :) Cant remember the last time I saw one. :(
