hi all - making bday cake for ds and after a great cake mix that isn't too fluffy - perhaps a bit more dense so i can use a fondant icing rather than butter icing? hints/tips much appreciated... I have used fondant on Betty Crocker cake mixture cake and it worked out well. Nice vanilla and also on the chocolate one. The pound cakes are a little too dense for my liking (like a brick to be honest).I made lamingtons with the pound cake mixture and the chocolate sauce was barely absorbed as it was so dense. Lol!

Youve been waiting too long. Call them and enquire. Renewal id cards come out faster than newly applied cards and shouldnt take longer than two weeks.

There is a gift shop in Dragonmart that has beautiful ones in all shapes and sizes. Its located on the right handside of the mall nearby the lighting section and floor panelling section. I hate how all the shops in Dragonmart are all over the place. Cant remember the shop number. If you buy a few then you get discount too.

Theres a limit on the amount of work permits given out per year. Most work permits go for highly qualified medical professions and highly qualified IT professionals. There is severe work shortages in the US currently and people are still being laid off. My cousin who is a senior quantity surveyor was laid off last week as the company didnt have money to pay him anyomore. He doesnt have any other job offerings as most companies are reducing staff to reduce costs. Bad times currently there.

Join a gym or start cycling at a park. Exercise helps to get rid of negative energy and helps to prevent depression. We have all felt the way you do at some time. Keeping busy mentally and physically helps prevent that. Best of luck.

If you can afford a villa then go for it. Especially as you have a child and they need space to run around. We live in an apartment and it can get claustrophobic during the summer months when you cant go outside. It is however a lot more cost effective with regards to DEWA. So basically you have to choose between comfort or cost effectiveness. Which one is more important to you as a family. Keep in mind you do get large apartments in Dubai but you have to hunt for them. Same with villas however,a lot of them seem to be falling apart inside.

Hello, I have some friends coming in for a visit and I would love to spend the day at a Hotel with a beautiful pool and swim up bar. Can anyone recommend such a place? I used to live in Abu Dhabi and we would go to the Rotana all the time for the cost of 80 - 100 aed entrance fee for the day, it was beautiful. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!! You wont get anything that cheap in Dubai unfortunately. Prices start at dhs200 and upwards. If its weekend its even more expensive.I quite like Jumeira beach hotel as well.

$$everal Se$$ions ?! yikes! From experience it takes about 3 sessions to get the perfect Aniston hair colour. Its also kind of difficult to maintain as you have to maintain a certain balance between the lowlights and highlights. People like Jennifer Aniston have the time and money to spend bucketloads on their hair. It does look lovely when its achieved though.

School is only compulsory from FS2/Reception 2. Most schools also offer FS1/Reception 1 but that is considered nursery/kindergarten. JAPS does not offer FS1.

It's a bit late now I'm afraid but just to add for future reference my kids really enjoy the brunch at the JW Marriott in Deira. They have a kids area with face painting, colouring, bouncy castle and the kids have their own little food stations at their height serving the obligatory pizza, nuggets, fries etc with a popcorn machine, fruit and sweets, although my kids prefer the "grown up" food stations as it's just more exciting. There are also little streams with fish swimming and wooden bridges crossing them which is fun for little one's. Definitely worth a try. The Movenpick at Ibn Battuta Gate hotel has also been recommended to me by friends as being great for kids. I've not tried it myself yet but it's on the list! I have heard many great reviews of the brunch at JW Marriot in Muraqqabat. Which restaurant is it as there are quite a few of them?

You wont get that hair colour in one session. It takes several sessions of highlights and lowlights before you reach the exact haircolour.

Wilton cake sparkles you can get at Tavola. They keep it behind the counter at the cash register so you have to specifically request for it.

Get brufen syrup for the pain. The doctors here usually just give panadol syrup and it really doesnt work on pain that intense. Brufen works beautifully and last quite a few more hours than the regular panadol syrup. Dont know why doctors here are so stingy with pain meds.

They would love it. I took my two year old and four year old and they were having the time of their lives. They still nag me to go back but its just to expensive to go regularly. It very catered towards the little ones. Lots of lounge chairs with umbrellas. Food kiosks. Shallow water areas for them to splash about.

umm - but how did they get the testimony? I mean there is no medical proof.... Dont know...but 11 teammates is an awful lot of people to be testifying against you if you are 'innocent'. They said even his ex-wife assisted them in all of this. Heard this on the radio. Havent read all the smaller details yet.

Unless you want to live in your car for a few hours everyday I would suggest look at another school. DESS is also an excellent non-profit school and has busses going to Silicon. Keep in mind you would have to attend parent teacher meetings, sport activities etc. If its a long drive it would be very draining on you and even more so on your child.

thanks..called regent but they only have seats for 2 children. might consider the options of splitting them if necessary. Since all four is going to school, we need to be careful on the cost as well. anybody knows what happen if they only start school in January 2013? I heard about the law that children cant be out of school for more than 25 days by KHDA Its 21 days not 25. If your out of school for more than that then the teacher can keep the child back for a year to repeat the grade. This isnt black and white. Its the principal's final decision.

Hi Ladies, Before I start my witch hunt, I thought I would ask here. Where can I find a 'one stop shop' for all baking goodies for a child (2.5 years old). I need everything from apron to chef hat, to rolling pin, to cookie cutters etc etc? TIA Ikea has cookie cutters of different shapes and aprons. Theres a shop just one floor down opposite Ikea that sells kitchenware where you would get a rolling pin and extra stuff if needed. There is also a kiosk close to Hyperpanda (Thats on the same floor as Ikea) that sells baking tins, cupcake tins and moulds.
