At festival city they have free play area for the summer in front of shoe city (close to Toys R Us). There is a trampoline, table tennis, basketball, football and hula hoop areas. Kids seem to enjoy it a lot. edited by Asti on 14/07/2012

We also bought Ace wallpaper paste two days ago. The staff there isnt always knowledgable or sometimes you get the lazy staffmember who cant be bothered to check so best go hunting yourself. There were lots of buckets of paste left.

Lots of nurseries have a 3 or 5 day option here in Dubai,so I guess it must be in Abu Dhabi as well? The average price for a 3 day stay ranges around 6-7000 a semester (+/-2000 per month). You just need to call and find out if they offer it. I dont know if you will find a nursery for 1000 a month. Why do you want to stay so badly here when you can get affordable or free education in the UK? If you do manage to get a supercheap nursery there, the staff and facilities will most probably be pathetic. You dont want your children to be traumatized by incompetent staff...

Yes, all you have to do is go to your provider (Du or Etisalat) bring Emirated ID , passport, and your sim cards that are under your name. That's all:) Is this for prepaid sim cards only or all sim cards? Also why do we have to take our passports along? Wasnt the purpose of getting Emirates id to cancel out all the other documents for i.d.?

I am starving, have hunger pains, headaches, no strength to get out of bed, but have absolutely no appetite for food. Anyone felt this before? Every summer in Dubai! :( Me too. This weather makes me feel bit depressed too as Im cooped up indoors. A prisoner of Dubai summer.

Capri's+T-shirts are a staple with a variety of sandals. I also love wearing maxi dresses. Some ladies wear thin t-shirts underneath their dresses if its a strappy top but I dont. Only when going to the mall do I make sure my shoulders are covered but for school pickup I wear my strappy tops and whatever.

Thanks. :) Dentist said he can take a few milimeters of mine with a lazer as my gummy smile isnt really that bad but Im conscious about it. This was in 2006 and the price quoted then was dhs30 000 with 8 veneers included on top,so I guess the price has risen a bit in the meantime. Dont know if my DH will allow me to spend that amount of money on my teeth....He said my teeth and smile are perfectly fine. Lol! edited by Asti on 09/07/2012

Florence, Italy is top of my list. Stunning views, great food, and a very friendly vibe. Venture out of the city and hike the Cinque Terre, and then a gorgeous seafood dinner at Manarola or RioMaggiore. I'm aching to go back again, DH and I travel heaps but it is one of our favourite vacation spots. Dream destination would be Seoul, Korea. Mostly because of the yummy food =) Seoul? Lol! Better to just go to a good Korean restaurant than go to Seoul. Trust me,your not missing anything.

Thanks! We are looking for a cheap and cheerful holiday, just returned from 10 days in the UK and received the credit card bill :\: I just can't face Europe again this year! I feel your pain! We also avoided Europe and the Americas for that reason. Sticking to Asia for now. ;) More bang for your buck!

Japan flights on Emirates are usually half empty so I wouldnt be too worried. She could book Ahlan service at the airport to have somebody assist her with pushing the luggage and help her through customs and security faster. I find its usually the airport bit that is more stressful than the actual flight.

School shoes are not in the sale in clarks. I know but as mentioned below, they wear shoes for many hours per day so its better to buy a good brand even if its more expensive. Dont know if they will have a sale anyways.

Ours starts 9 Sept. I dont think you can coordinate all the dates in an expat country where people have to fly to go home. It will be chaos. Best to keep things as they are. Everyone is happy the way it is anyways.

English or American curriculum? They have different names. English call theirs Foundation1 (the year they turn 4) and Foundation 2 (the year they turn 5). American call theirs Kindergarten 1 (the year they turn 5) and Kindergarten 2 (the year they turn 6).

As per the link you also have to proof you have adequate accommodation. I dont know if a studio apartment for three people will be allowed as proof? Studios are usually for one or max two people. Sorry, really want to encourage you but it doesnt sound too good. Dubai has become an expensive place to live.

Dont go to KL. Just went for a week and it was a big disappointment. Never saw blue skies as the city is constantly covered with pollution smog. People are rude and impatient. Strange as they market themselves so strongly as a tourist friendly country. We are currently in Phuket. Thousand times better and Thais are lovely friendly people mostly. Qatar does direct flights from Doha to Phuket. Lol! Just noticed previous poster also recommend Phuket! If you cant afford Laguna try Sunwing beach and spa resort. One third of the price of the Laguna hotels and right next to it! We went there for six nights and my kids cried when we had to leave. They have many baby&toddler pools and kidsclub. Also kids eat free! Bargain! http://www.sunwingphuket.com/ edited by Asti on 01/07/2012 edited by Asti on 01/07/2012 edited by Asti on 01/07/2012

Hydroquinone does work for pigmentation, brown spots etc. It comes in different strengths so you need to find one that works for your skin. The darker your skin the higher percentage you can use,if you have white skin its best to try the lowest percentage first as the stuff is very strong. I know in countries in Asia like Philippines you can buy it at the supermarket shelves for very cheap but havent seen it really in Dubai yet.

My DS is also attending DESS. Everyone lives all over Dubai and some people drive very far just to have their kids attend there. Choose what will work for you. Another option I might add is Garhoud and Al Badia which is both about 7 minute drive from DESS. They both have villas, townhouses and apartments.

Houston Emirates flights are always full and very busy flight. I would really recommend not to do the direct flight but have a stopover for your own sanity. I have found my kids start to get a real handful after eight hours of being couped up. I had my DH help me on a recent 11 hour flight and we were beyond exhausted on arrival. I think I started hallucinating towards the end! Lol!

Youre right. She should be entering Grade 1 in British Curriculum. Maybe just call them up and ask for clarification. I do know that some Brit schools place the pupil one year behind if they are transferring from US/IB curriculum as Brit curriculum is a lot more academically aggressive and tougher than US/IB. This is what a teacher at an IB School told me,not my opinion.

Hi ladies, Does anyone know of a therapist who can help an adult with enunciation and articulation? I guess that would be a speech therapist's domain. DD tends to speak too quickly and so she sometimes mumbles her words. Thanks :) Lol! I have the same problem. My mum would always say 'breathe and talk slower!'

I must say in comparison to Australia - everything (or almost everything) is cheaper in Dubai! The only thing that is about the same price is coffee.... I almost fainted when I went to Australia on holiday. Its super expensive there. Everything! How do people survive?

My 4 yr old also doesnt gain weight. I supplement his meals with pediasure milk but he stays the same weight some days he weighs a little less. Maybe its normal at this age for a weight standstill?
