The only nationality that can get visa on arrival in Australia are New Zealanders and that is only if they have no criminal records. Everyone else has to apply for a tourist visa. <em>edited by Asti on 27/02/2014</em>

Since your Dh works in AUH I think you would be best to stay where you are. Soon your LO will be going to preschool and will be able to run his little legs off and be super exhausted when he comes home. Lots of people in Dubai raise their children in apartments due to the ridiculous rents. Just take him out to go and explore once in a while. At 2 they are obsessed with going outside (I have 2 boys too). Soon you will not be able to afford a villa for 130k and then you have to move again. Count your blessings and just make the necessary sacrifice.

Its absolutely normal. It is very terrifying to learn how to drive. A good calm patient instructor is a must. It will get better with time and lots of practice. Hang in there! Nothing like driving your own wheels legally ;)

They do not need to be here. Just make sure your husband has their birth certificates attested and all the other necessary papers needed plus photos and of course their passports to get the residence visa in. He would have to courier the passport back to you so that you can travel to UAE. <em>edited by Asti on 24/02/2014</em>

Its very common in Dubai for children to switch curriculums. Its only in the last two final years of schooling that its best not advised. I noticed you mentioned you are thinking about placing them in ASD...have you heard about their new non-refundable deposit policy of dhs22 000 effective this September? http://gulfnews.com/news/gulf/uae/general/dubai-school-introduces-dh22-000-non-refundable-capital-fee-1.1293353

I would go to Maldives and second choice SriLanka. Wouldnt even consider Australia. So overpriced and expensive and the flight is super long. Not nearly worth it. Maldives I would stay at Lilys beach resort. They are well known to cater to families and you can even take their all inclusive package where all meals are included. Very relaxing and gorgeous setting. SriLanka is pretty too but the beaches aren't nearly as gorgeous as Maldives however kids enjoy it there as they get to see elephants and out of the three options your money will go a lot further too. If you like super spicy food then this will be a heaven for you. They are known for their chili crabs and Sri Lankans are very friendly gracious people. Actually putting it like this I guess if you have kids Sri Lanka would definitely be the best out of the three! ;)

DESS is well known as a premier sport school. Just go check out all the gold cups in school reception ;) They do great in academics too. Parents are very involved at school and a lot of the time meet up with each other for morning coffees or for afternoon playdates with kids at the park near the school. Plenty of different nationalities and I do not believe that preference is given to any nationality. My children are both in multicultural classes. The teaching staff and curriculum is strictly British though :) Apply and try to get in. <em>edited by Asti on 17/02/2014</em>

If I were you I would take photos of damage and drive over to RERA. Its your landlords contractual obligation and responsibility for maintenance of the property during the term of your lease. He is therefor in breach of contract.Take a copy of your lease contract too. They would know what to do and will most probably contact landlord directly as he will by listed in their system. Dont bother calling people. They will just drive you insane with their incompetence.

DH managed to get leave during this peak period and we want to go somewhere nice but there are too many options. We usually go to Asia but its monsoon season then so we have narrowed it down to either USA or Europe. Any suggestions for a nice holiday with small kids that is nice for adults too?

Definitely Victory Heights. Havent heard anything bad about them. Just good. Repton on the other hand...lets just say bullies rule the $chool and the $chool looks the other way...and thats just one reason to avoid it. Singapore airlines takes snubnosed (persian cats etc) animals. None of the airlines in the middle east will touch them. Emirates and Etihad defnitely not. Not even a half breed. Also try other asian airlines as they might also but I know for sure Singapore airlines takes them as my friend took her two persian to the Philippines when she was offered a job and moved there. Perhaps try to get a job that way you can live in the UAE without having to depend on your ex? Your ex can still continue to sponsor your children. Its just your visa that needs to change. That way both of you are free to live your life as you want and remarry if you want. Legal separation your are technically still married on paper however assets and custody is sorted as I understand. Im sure you would like a fresh independent start?

Just wanted to share. If you would like to ever marry in Court inn Dubai...be prepared..it is not so romantic !LOL I got married and the Judge first asked if I received my Dowry (I am German and I just said YES) and then he made my Husband repeat a short phrase in Arabic. That was it ! No smiles, no congratulations, no "all the best"...It was a bit odd..but the best part was the all in arabic marriage certificate, which i just got translated.... It was VERY religious and I am a little embarrassed to show it in my home town where I will register the marriage. I am sure the official there will have a good laugh that day. It said my dowry was received and my husband was previously single, while my previous status was "virgin" Glad I did not have to prove that. :/ It took us 8 months to get all the papers together and this was mainly due to lack of available information. Now I am curious to see weather this "Shariah Law wedding" is valid in my country. Insha Allah ! Lol! Didnt they even throw in free juice or coffee coupon? How rude. Im sure you can take the paper to the German consulate here to get your German papers in order and change your last name (if you want to). Congrats!!!

I wont be able to do school drop off and drive all the way to Al Quoz for 8:30. If it was in Mirdif I might be able to make it but 8:45 or 9am would be perfect. Hopefullly they will one day add another morning session in Mirdif as I defnitely cant go at 5:45!
