I was just wondering if it is the norm in Dubai for a TA to not be entitled to benefits such as Annual Flights and Live Out Allowance? Or does anyone know of schools that do offer these for their TAs? Yes its the norm. They get a salary and thats it.

It will cost them thousands to repair. For sure they also got fined by the government for the fire too. Rent going up all over Dubai especially for businesses...Its going to take a miracle to get that place up and running again. Hope they had lots of spare cash.

Circuit factory has odd timings though. Wanted to join but I cant do evening classes as I have kids and the morning timings are ridiculous. Wish they would add a class at 9am when all the kids are at school and I can attend. I am sure many other mums would be able to attend then too. <em>edited by Asti on 31/01/2014</em>

Oud Metha has large apartments and a quick drive to airport too. Lots of family apartments as the area is surrounded by various schools,social clubs,sports clubs and Lamcy mall.

It only affects Sharjah and Abu Dhabi schools currently for this September. Dubai did not receive the circular from KHDA. The cutoff date for all other curricula (this would include BC) is September 1,2015. <em>edited by Asti on 30/01/2014</em>

My child goes to AKELC. Brilliant nursery and lovely well educated staff. We do not speak arabic at all however my child knows many arabic words already. He points out the names of fruits and vegetables in arabic when we go to the supermarket. I didnt know what he was saying and then found out he was speaking arabic! Classrooms are big and bright. Very clean and well organised. Would highly recommend them if you can get in. Some of their classes are full already.

Isn't Al Futtaim the owner operator of Festival City and they are the sole GCC partner for IKEA too? So greedy landlords wouldn't be the answer to the increased prices if this is the case. Well if they are the sole owners then its still just greed as there is no justification for putting prices higher.

Also in Meed was a story about Jumeirah Beach Road and Al Wasl Road to be made one-way and a 16-lane bridge over the Dubai Water Canal that will link Business Bay and the Gulf along the southern edge of Safa park. Exciting stuff! Not exciting for people who live in or own homes in Jumeira 1,2, and 3. I think quite a few villas will have to be demolished for these projects to go forward....

They can do a free demo on your hair at the mall kiosks and then you can return later for purchase (or not). The curling wands works on thick hair very well. I have super thick long straight hair and my curls stayed for 3 days(had to wash my hair so could of been longer). I also struggle to hold a curl and regular curling irons do not work on my hair. They go limp within an hour. I know Salon Ink has curling wands as well if you prefer to go to a salon. <em>edited by Asti on 25/01/2014</em>

Your husband should be the one dealing with all of this. You shouldn't stress yourself out over these small annoying issues. Millions of women cope each day with pregnancy,newborns and toddlers and do it just fine without a maid. You can do it too. My husband is a pilot and has been away this entire time. I wish he was here, it would make things a lot easier for me. I can handle my toddler on my own, there's no doubt to that but as I said, my husband is away a lot..... I'm on my own. I admire single mothers like no one else, it can be real tough, especially when you're expecting another baby. My husband is a pilot too. We have no maid and I have two kids. I travelled to my home country for both of their births on my own and returned on my own with them. It can be done and its not that hard.

Wow 12dhs?! That is so cheap. The small candles regular price these days are dhs40 and when they have 50% sale they sell for dhs20. I Just bought 3 small ones on their sale 3 weeks ago for dhs20 each.

To be honest when I was 26 and someone told me I had to go away for 2 months away from my boyfriend I would also of refused. Not saying its right but that is how you think at that age especially if you are crazy in love. You think with your heart and not your head. Perhaps tell her you can make arrangements for her to skype her boyfriend and that she will be able to see him on a computer screen? You can make phone arrangements? Anything to soften the blow? I also highly doubt the dad has any idea what is going on. This is defnitely a boyfriend/girlfriend thing. She is scared of losing him.

ALL filipinos who intend to work overseas have to apply for a Overseas Work Certificate in Philippines before they depart the country. At the airport they have to present it before they can leave so that the government know they are leaving the country for work and not vacation. Your contact who 'organized' these things clearly duped you for your money as all filipinos here know that you need that certificate as they have all been through it. Also people who organise these things have to be registered by POEA(Philippine overseas employment administration) to prevent illegal trafficking. Not just anybody can do it anymore. Your contact probably wasnt therefor didnt apply for the OWC. Send her back to Philippines and let her apply for her certificate first and then you can apply for her work visa for her return. <em>edited by Asti on 21/01/2014</em>

Bloomingdales at Dubai mall do it regularly. They dont advertise things things though so you just have to go to the shop. Sometimes the shop assistants at the make up counters will also do it for you if you buy a few of their products.

Thats why a lot of people sell their stuff before coming here as it sometimes works out too expensive and you get to buy new stuff too. Otherwise just keep the stuff in storage in your home country.

They also have plenty brilliant doctors in Thailand and especiallly Manila, Philippines. MIL went there for hysterectomy due to cancer. She was quoted roughly dhs200 000+ in Dubai and in Manila it all cost Dhs30 000 and she had a private room too for 10 days. She was treated fantastic at a fraction of the price. Their equipment is first world in the private hospitals too.

Toddlers shouldnt do sleepovers. Especially in these times where you read about weirdos and paedophiles etc. You never really know what goes on at another person's home. She acted out as she is 3.5yrs old. A baby child still. She is unsure of herself and her surroundings and with a new baby at home too she is probably also scared. She needs more reassurance and love. I guess your sister learned the hard way that she went about this all wrong. Lesson learned.

We did the exact same route and flights in March last year. There is plenty of time. We even had time to do some duty free shopping. Singapore airport is the most user friendly airport. You dont walk 10kms just to get somewhere like Dubai airport. Very efficient. Enjoy!

I can not believe everyone is being quite so naive about this, the dh knew exactly what he was doing, this is only the wife's version, later she will realise he wanted out and he has been living a life of lies. Stop blaming the new woman, that's naive without knowing the whole story. Your right Lolacat.I retract what I said before. I reread the whole thread properly and things are not adding up.... I am currently on the Good Habits plan - I have to agree, a tad boring in the group sesh but if you are self motivated, the program really does work. It involves alot of weighing out your food, and eating a certain number of portions from each food group per day. I have lost around 3kgs in 5 weeks (would have been more if it wasn't over the holidays!) and have adapted to alot of the "rules" that have become part of my daily routine. Find what works for you, whether it be counting calories or just hitting the gym a little more. Best of luck xxx The plan also worked for me. After I stopped going to their meetings I just continued with their plan and weighed myself. :)

We knew this was going to be her last maid's position as she wants to become a secretary and we treat her so well due to the horror stories she has told me regarding her last employer and it's still not enough. I would never, ever take advantage of anybody including the babysitting but to flatly refuse we feel it has gone too far. I spoke with my husband last night when I got in from work and we have agreed to both sit down with her this evening and tell her what is expected whilst employed by us. If she is still unhappy then she can go, simple as... but I doubt very very much she will find another employer who will treat her as well as we have, the hours that she does and if they have children with no babysitting involved at all! She has only just started this course and it's a 2 year thing, so she has to work as a maid, I will not be giving her a glowing reference to her next employer! :( Secretaries work long busy hours and often overtime. If she is complaining about those type of things whilst being a maid only then she is wasting her time.

the RERA Rent calculator is bizarre - the rent rates are showing soo high and they have not differentiated between elite properties versus normal ones... for example downtown all the buildings have similar rate estimates , its about 100k for 1bhk and the same in JLT. i cant imagine in JLT 100k for one bedroom as stated on the RERA calculator...we are safe for this year but in general these rates are just strange! surely companies are not going to increase our salaries by 15% or 20% to match these standards of living... moreover now even restaurants will increase prices since they will recover rent increase from us! My SIL just paid 70000 for a studio in JLT! Its the size of a closet. Seems like its a landlord's market again :(

Average weight for children aged 2-7. Do this calculation (AGE+4) X 2=? Since your child is two his calculation is (2+4)x2=12kgs. He is about 1kg underweight. Now look at his bone structure. Is he petite (small boned), average or big boned. Since you mentioned he is small then he must be petite and is normal and healthy. If he was 3kgs beneath the average then I would be worried. You can always also give him pediasure to help make sure he gets all his vitamins and it gives extra calories. My son was also petite and in the 10percentile of WHO charts until he reached five and had a major growth spurt. Dont worry so much. He will be fine. PS.WHO charts does not calculate your ethnicity when they conducted these averages. I'm so glad to find this site and all the wonderful ladies here. I've been here in Dubai for 4 months and have been actively looking for work with no success. I came here as my husbands work was transferred here and left a highly paid career but have been sitting at home not being able to find anything. I have a degree in computer science, have over 16 years in management and leadership in customer service and support for many major companies. I'm from Vancouver Canada. I have my residency visa and all but somehow I'm unable to land even a single interview. I've applied through dubizzle, gulf talent, linkedin and every other agency. What am I doing wrong? I have worked my whole life since I was 14 and just can't sit at home as it will make me so depressed. Please help me shed some lights? Lower your expectations and you will get a job. You have no middle east experience so you have to start at a lower ranking position and work your way up again. The IT market here is saturated. Loads of people from India who will take a job for lower salary even if they are over qualified just to live here.

Sunwing Resort on Bang Tao beach. Childrens club with 2 fulltime childminders and activities. Plenty kids pools and adult pools. Children eat free and they even have rooms specially equiped for mothers with small babies that has a baby bath,stroller,crib etc. Staff are lovely and the resort is right on the beach which is very clean. Staff actually go out early in the morning to comb the sand and pick up any dirt! They have masseuses right on the beach too. Would also highly recommend the bar lounge next door to the hotel. Chill out music and sundowners with a mini kiddy park for the children with slides.

Hello ladies, I hope you can help. I have a maid that has been very spoiled by us. Our mistake, I know.. she gets 2.1k for a small villa, no cooking, no kids and 1.5days off and also plenty time to rest every day. She is also always on the phone which is annoying. However, she ruined many shirts and even managed to brake her fridge in the room, which we paid for. I am getting tired of it- she has to learn a lesson. I have warned her many times to be careful but she does stupid things like washing a white shirt and putting Clorox in it!!! I want to send her for a laundry course and thinking of deducting it from her salary (its 800AE) What do you ladies do? How do you manage your help? Also, I would like to get a new one as her contract is expiring in may but all the agencies I ve called want 3k monthly (apart from one time payments and deposit, etc) and she would get only 800aed from it. Pls help? Thanks :) I wouldnt deduct it now however you need to sit down with her and make her understand if this continues you will have to send her on a laundry course and it will be deducted from her salary. When money talks people listen. I was surprised to read that agency maids only get dhs800!!!

Koh Samui or Phuket. Plenty of resorts that are super child friendly. Especially Phuket. Mombasa in Kenya is also very lovely with nice beaches and the locals are friendly and love children. Very affordable too and they can go see some giraffes,hippos and lions. Kids love it.

All, I am a working mom and my little baby girl has to start daycare by mid feb as I join work 1st March Insha Allah. She will be 5.5 months, I need feedback on any good daycares for such small infants. I live in JLT and work in Downtown Emaar Boulevard Can anyone provide feedback on any of the following daycares keeping infants in mind 1. Four 2 FOur Nursery and Daycare - JLT 2. Rainbow Valley - JLT 3. Jebel Ali Village Nursery (Umm Suqiem and Lakes Branch) as these branches only take infants 4. Little Hands Kids Club 5. British Orchard Nursery 6. Kangroo Kids 7. Jumeirah International Nurseries Or if you could recommend any which you think is the best you have experienced and I can leave my little girl there and be assured she is in good hands. I really need feedback on the above few - please do take out a min or 2 of ur time to let me know of your experiences.
