We love Ruth's Chris. Had a few cocktails there, appetizers plus, mains with sides, and Peronis-- didn't go over 1000 dhs for 2. Worth every penny. To be fair, never been anywhere else besides Rhodes 2010 and was not really impressed. Good enough, just felt the atmosphere wasn't as "sexy." Interested to try Gaucho, thanks for the reminder! Friends of ours were at Hunter's at the Westin the other night, and said the service was not up to par at all.

Hi M, Emirates Golf club is on the higher end for non-member individual lessons. They do have a group ladies program for which the the term starts in April, here is the info [url=http://issuu.com/dubaigolf/docs/i-8098__egc_academy_____brochure_20?e=4318873/9494151'>link[/url'> The Dubai Creek location has a program called "Learn to Golf in a week" that costs 600 dhs, and runs Sun-Wed from 7:30 pm onward. I hadn't called about it, so I can't say if it runs every week or whatnot. info here [url=http://www.dubaigolf.com/emirates-golf-club/play/golf-academy/group-programmes.aspx'>link[/url'> Jebel Ali also seemed to have reasonable rates for non members. [url=http://www.jaresortshotels.com/Properties/JAGR/Golf/Overview/GolfAcademy.aspx'>link[/url'> Arabian Ranches has a good offer for group lessons if you can muster up 2-5 more people; they run 150 dhs a session for 3 or more people. info here [url=http://www.arabianranchesgolfdubai.com/academy/membership.aspx'>link[/url'> You could also consider Saadiyat Beach in Abu Dhabi which is probably the best deal if you want to do ladies group coaching, best rates with longest sessions. Info here [url=http://www.sbgolfclub.ae/en/golf-academy/ladies-group-coaching-2014.html'>link[/url'> Most if not all of these provide clubs. You will need to have golf shoes, and appropriate attire though. The clubs list their dress codes on their sites. If you need some clothing, any Sun and Sand location or Golf House (MOE, Sheikh Zayed road, and I think one other) will have what you need. I like the selection at the Sun and Sand in Ibn Battuta Mall--they have a Nike Golf section. Sun and Sand also has an outlet in Al Quoz. HTH, did a little research myself recently :) If money is not an object, my thoughts are that even a 30 minute individual session would be of more value than a group session because it is all about you. However, whether you go for group or individual, it is all about practice, practice, practice. Check the day pass rates at the different clubs as well, as this is how you will improve. The day passes for non members range from 150 dhs on up. When I was buying some gear last month, the sales associate recommended Bryan Smith at Arabian Ranches but there are a lot of quality professionals around. edited by Beebers on 25/02/2015

Meeting with landlords son (who speaks English) and manager arranged for later today. Fingers crossed for some progress! [b'>Apparently the ban on children playing in certain areas is for safety reasons, which make it difficult to argue with. All our grassy areas are surrounded by outdoor lighting which is dangerous if it gets broken, hence the football ban, and is therefore full of electric cables. The skateboarding/skating/cycling ban is to prevent kids falling off in the pool, as apparently happened last week with a 3 year old. Seems small kids are not being adequately supervised by parents or maids. Maybe the answer is for these activities to be permitted only if supervised by an adult. Not a very sensibly designed compound is it! [/b'> When I read things like this, I just think about being a child growing up in the 70's and 80's--when our parents would say "have fun, be home for dinner!" as we took off on our bikes and went god knows where for hours and hours. My sister and I were laughing about this the other day and wondered whether this was totally dysfunctional, or if the world is becoming mad with over-protection. If I owned a property and carried the liability, I am sure I would see things differently. I agree with Lolacat that discouragement against physical activity is not good. As for the pool situation, is it not properly manned by lifeguards? I'm not a huge fan of some of the skateboarding/scooter riding in public areas around where I live--not sure what your setup is like, but the new JBR Beach area is like a skate park. Not everyone watches where they are going on wheels, and I saw a little gal on rollerblades plow into an elderly couple knocking the poor lady on her back. She was okay thank goodness. I digress here--bottom line VicM, sounds like a lot of stress and more trouble than it's worth. I wouldn't like to live somewhere like that with children, nor would I want to be stressed about rules that can be changed in arbitrary fashion at will.

LT, fair enough in some sense, but...really? Scolding the "regulars," and for what? I can't speak for everyone, but some of us really appreciate the sanctity, for lack of a better term, the info that is passed on here. No one is daft enough to believe in complete anonymity. Most of us take things with a grain of salt, but surely you appreciate something about the regulars of this forum otherwise you would not continue to check in and contribute even after you have moved on from Dubai, yes? I am not having a go at you; you have plenty of wisdom to impart from wherever you may reside and plenty to share based on your time in Dubai. But this thread you've started confuses me. In my humble opinion, it seems the reactionary replies as of late to the bots, shills--or whatever they are is simply an effort to protect (sounds a little silly as I write this) the information passed along. At least for me, that's all.

Preetihappy, I have no anecdotal information, however as you said, much of her medication would be controlled. In specific, I don't know if they would allow her to bring medications such as Tramadol unless her prescriptions were attested-- I don't think a doctor's note would sufficient so I would suggest researching controlled medications (I've seen some threads here in past) and how one goes about attesting prescriptions.

No judgments, not much to add, but if I were in your shoes, I would take a home test which you can buy at any pharmacy. That way you don't have a "time-stamp," or any record of a positive pregnancy test on your medical file at a GP and proceed from there.

Horrific. The went knocking door to door to make sure all of the residents got out and apparently the residents are praising the fire department and building management's actions. I also live in a tall tower, and the first year we were plagues with false alarms. It's been like that in each tower I've lived in, in the Marina. I'm so glad that no one was hurt, but surely some people have lost everything. I am thinking of Tamweel in JLT a couple of years back, and how the aftermath was a real nightmare for the affected and displaced residents :(

Totally agree. This is my 5th February in Dubai, and the "winter" was quite short. I remember it being colder in December and January in previous years compared to these past 2 months as well. I hope this is not an indicator that summer will be warmer than normal. Doesn't always work that way, though.

They are looking into the issues around the marina http://www.thenational.ae/uae/transport/studies-into-dubai-tram-system-to-improve-traffic-flow Fingers crossed they find a solution but I think it would have to include opening up the 'u' and left hand turns again. Things were OK before they closed them all. Agree. I count myself fortunate that my work commute is not affected by the "tram" traffic, or the tram route itself.. In this weather, I walk just about everywhere (unless I have high heels on that I don't want destroyed by JBR cobblestones or dodgy areas). What I am not looking forward to is the impending hotter weather. It is also ridiculous that it takes so long to get to one area of the marina from the other by car, and I can imagine how frustrated certain commuters are who suffer from delays every day because of the location of their building. Getting to and from the Le Royal Meridien a couple of weekends ago via taxi was a chore. DH and I only had 3 hours to steal for a dinner date, and an hour was spending on the to and fro. Agree with Fairy Dust, surely it can go faster? ETA: Alismum, I read the article you posted, and it is encouraging that they are looking into it--but I had to chuckle at the comments by some residents about the suggestion that "[i'>commuters ditch their cars, walk or take the tram if headed to restaurants in the Marina[/i'>." I can sort of see how that works for people that live outside the Marina/JBR. For those in the marina, though, it could take 5 min to walk vs. 30 on the tram. In the summer, I would be covered in sweat walking to the tram stop and from the stop to my destination! There are not that many stops. Not good if it's a business meeting or a nice dinner. edited by Beebers on 19/02/2015

So the people on the tram are annoyed with the pace, and the road users are struck waiting at intersections for the [b'>giant grey worm that has taken the marina hostage![/b'> Has anyone else noticed that they stop the WHOLE intersection, rather than allowing some lanes to continue flowing while the tram goes by (where safe to do so obviously!)? hahahaaa!

Used the ordinary one and it caused untold amount if ingrown hair. Never again Same here, on my legs, and omg the pain. But I find it brilliant for underarms and fingers. I know tat might sound odd, but don't like hair on my fingers or toes. OP, if your facial hair is thick or dark from hormones, I think that is more prone to ingrowns than fine. That is what I've found is true for me. I have the Braun silk body epilator but never used the facial one.

Half if not more of the threads on car lease companies on this forum are shills. You can always tell because a poster with single digit posts makes a suggestion on the thread...and simultaneously all the posters who recommend otherwise are thumbed down. Hairdressing threads too; it's a real yawn. FYI, I use Hertz and used my native country driver's license at first, then gave them a copy of my brand new UAE license as soon as I got it. There was no such rule as waiting for after 1 year with the UAE license, but maybe that depends which country issued your native license, or it could also be a new rule. edited by Beebers on 08/02/2015

If you dont mind a man doing your hair then Khalid Kahel would be a great choice. Brilliant with hair and colour. http://www.facebook.com/ColourMastersDubai/timeline I was also told Khalid is really good with color. My friend's wife has the same color hair as me (brunette) and her blond color looks amazing and natural, she goes to Khalid.

What bothers me most about this recent spamming is that Krav Maga is a very intense form of self defense, and there are few instructors that are truly qualified to teach this to others. One of my friends is an instructor back in the US, who works with the military, and outside military personnel, most people would be learning Krav Maga "lite" for lack of a better term. Posting a link to another forum, with a suspect post from some Joe Blow who doesn't even list his/her name or qualifications is just a joke. I would trust very few people in regard to this discipline, and you'd be hard pressed to find an instructor in the UAE for reasons one can deduce regarding the history of Krav Maga.

The car had less than 7000 km when I got it :) They were johnny on the spot helping me out. There is another company listed on here I will bite my tongue about, as I got a LOT of mysterious traffic fines with them. I am serious, after I met with the sales rep, he asked what my DH did and how much money did we both make. (WTF!) Soon after, behold, 2 tickets EACH month. Beware the small companies here. A lot of Westerners we know are leaving or have left. Various reasons; often it is simply a transfer. Like has been hashed out on this forum frequently, packages which include spouse and family benefits are on the decrease. You will probably see less Western families moving here, or families in general. I know several Westerners personally that were hired in a management position, then replaced by someone else to do the job for a 1/3 of that-- often they were training their replacements without knowing it. I've seen in media, marketing, hospitality-- several sectors. The company paying them so highly is not exactly sustainable in some cases, but people also take their contacts and their network with them when they leave, which doesn't seem to register with some companies. Regarding the nationalities ratio, it only makes sense that more South Asians, Arabs, Persians, Africans, Eastern Europeans would move here due to proximity if there is more opportunity in Dubai than in their home country, especially if their home country is reaching a critical mass. It is also easier to move here with a lower salary if one has a built in support system when they arrive, with room share and board already worked out in their friends/family network. If you look at the nationalities that have lived in Dubai the longest, in the largest numbers, and own businesses here, it's just logical that those networks will grow. It happens in every "newer" city or country. I could make some examples, but I don't want to be accused of doing anything more than pointing out the obvious.

Really Dentro ? Their dodgy marketing practices don't put you off ? Sorry, but I wouldn't !! Agree with Beebers, such a disappointment when companies resort to this... Well, thing is, I will continue to use them because their product and service is excellent. But I think, shame, because other potential customers like yourself will be put off. Some companies do not have good control over their social media marketing person, and it is not that they are resorting to anything-- they may not even be aware they are posting on this forum. We had a girl managing our social media platforms at my previous job, and when I peeked in, I was facepalming at her posts on facebook and methodology--it made us look absolutely unprofessional

Then she would have to physically sit in your house and babysit.[/b'> ....so the maid can clean the house all day, but not physically sit in it once the sun goes down to watch the baby? Wow all those saying she's being judgmental - take a look at YOURSELVES!!!! OP, is only trying to help and is concerned for the well being of the babies and her SIL. ladymary, can you not have a quiet word with the midwife when she comes? Quite a touchy subject. My sister had PND which presented only once, after her 3rd child was born. had my Mom not been concerned that something was a little off, I don't know if anyone would have said anything. Luckily my Mom told her doctor, who immediately agreed and started treatment after meeting with and observing my sister. Her friends didn't want to overstep the bounds, and *hoped* it was "just nothing." I think it is great that ladymary is concerned and I agree with the other posters not to sweep it under the rug. This one is worth speaking up about. And I don't think anyone called anyone else psychotic, good grief!

I did not chime in because I was mystified at the 3'4" height and the weight :) I'll try not to ramble. Sounds like you have a good problem to have, Gritt. Since your weight is on target, and you don't list lack of energy or sleep issues--I don't think you should change anything about your eating, so that is one less thing to concern yourself about for the moment. Eat when it feels good whether that is before or after your workout. Hey, unless you just ran 7km or lifted heavy at the gym for 1 hour, I really wouldn't worry about nutrient timing the way that ironmen competitors or bodybuilders would--it's just not that big of a deal if you are doing some 30 min low-to-medium impact workouts. I like the suggestions here for what you can do for exercise. I love bodyweight exercises like squats, and planks, but those alone in a low impact fashion don't always stimulate your endurance building which is what you are after. Jumping jacks, jump squats, mountain climbers, alternating lunges, knee to elbow planks, pushups do. If you are sweating and breathing heavily, and saying "wow, this is tough" then you are on the right track. Write yourself a little program that you can commit to doing 3 mornings a week. Literally write it out, don't just flop around without a plan. When you stick to it and get consistent with 3 days, increase to 4 or 5. When you master something (i.e. it is easy to do 10 jump squats) increase to 15 reps. I'll give an example of what I do when in a hotel or at home with no gym. 1. 15 jump squats 2. 30 alternating lunges (forward and back to place) 3. 24 alternating punches with dumbbells (or 40 air punches if no weights available) 4. 15 squats 5. 10 clap pushups 6. plank (fall on floor and catch breath. once i have, repeat a few more times) That is just an example of what is right for my stamina. I alternate between a high impact and a low impact exercise so I don't die. Choose the appropriate exercises and reps for you. It should challenge you, when it doesn't, step it up or try new things. Nothing against brisk walking, but it doesn't sound like that is challenging you, and I don't know that it builds stamina for people who are healthy, young, and active enough to do far more than that, make sense? When to workout? Whenever you want to. I like first thing in the morning for home workouts, if possible, because then they GET DONE. :) Otherwise you can get distracted with chores and work. As far as a post baby stomach, just choose any exercise program and stick to it consistently, which will shrink your overall body fat over time. Yes, planks will increase your core strength--but you can't target fat loss in a spot specific way. i.e. working out abs to lose belly fat or loose skin. This is why I suggest the squats, lunges, and lower body work for the mid section....why? Because it burns more calories. Also, the stronger your lower body is, the better your endurance for stairs, hiking, and the like. Good luck!

MKZ, situations like this suck on so many levels. Affairs affect more than just the spouses and children; it doesn't happen in a vacuum. I understand both your loyalty to your friend, and your disgust with the woman who played a part in breaking up her marriage-- especially the flagrant nature-- which explains your greater disgust for her rather than the husband. I don't think you are absolving the husband, but because he is your DH's BF, you can't just write him off in the way you are hoping you can avoid having anything to do with the woman. At some point, though, you just need to let it go or it will eat at you, while you play out hypothetical situations in your head. What will you say, will you keep your cool, will you be forced to spend time with her--that can add up to a LOT of undue stress. Your DH seems to have already made up his mind to accept and move on. Easier for him, I suppose, since he doesn't have to listen to the ex-wife's heartache like you do. He probably is not stewing over the other woman's facebook behavior either, but he is the one to support. Wait and see what this March holiday will bring. I've been in situations like this and they are rarely what I expect them to be. Either much worse, or much better--but you never know, so no sense letting it take any more of your brainpower until the time comes. Acting like a 16 year old "mean girl" on social networking is actually passive-aggressive behavior. I would wager she doesn't ave the balls to behave like that in front of your face. She will probably be kissing your ass, while equally annoying, gives you the upper hand to avoid her.

Some of the US online shops only offer PayPal so I can't get the order delivered to the Shop and Ship US account/address. Has anyone been able to get around this problem? Thanks. I'm confused, have you been able to successfully set up a paypal account? If you already have, you can complete check out on the US website, and it should automatically redirect you to paypal--where you can select an alternate shipping address, for instance, your Shop ad Ship NY or whichever. Am I missing something?

When you need to get somewhere fast, grab your keys, and remember on the elevator ride down that you have no idea where your car is parked, because DH drove it last, thus parked it last. Wee hours in his time zone and phone is off...

One of the main things to do is make sure that your CV and covering letter are tailored to suit, everytime you appliy for a particular job. When I was looking I never used the same CV twice Absolutely. OP, you may know this, but when reviewing your CV, make sure the skills section highlights your value adds which set you apart. I've seen many CVs where the majority is soft skills such as "motivated, honest, enthusiastic" and while those are desirable traits, employers will gauge for themselves whether you are, or not, and things like "conflict resolution, CRM, business development" are more helpful to the person who is reading through your CV-- along with many others. On the experience section, tailor the description of your previous jobs to highlight experience that is applicable to the position you are applying for. Another mistake I've seen is listing too many duties performed, especially if it is phrased like "assisted with..." Less can be more. Like others said, it can take longer than you expect, but don't get discouraged. The more you get out and meet people, the more your chances will increase. edited by Beebers on 27/01/2015

Daza hit the nail on the head - that's why people log on. That's what keeps it lively. To be fair pixxydixxy - you don't know why people log on. I don't think you would find many people here who really do just log in to be a b*tch. There have been times when people have had a go at something I've said - most times I've been able to say to myself "fair point - I didn't think about it like that". Other times, I know I just have a genuine difference of opinion with another poster - that's life. Agree. It helps if one doesn't have a chip on one's shoulder, and is not defensive, you can take away a lot from posters who have the cajones to say what they really think. There are posts here and there where I feel the comments are uncalled for, but I also see a lot of people overreacting and taking things personally. Everyone can't have the forum the way they want. You might not like another poster's tone, but you may also find that very same poster will share information that can be very helpful and useful to you.
