A screening at the rugby club would be great, could try and hook it up to a telly there through a hdmi cable from one of our laptops if they wanted to stream it that way. Let me know if anythings organised, the DH and a few others would deaf go somewhere to see it edited by bilqat on 03/09/2011

went in yesterday and asked, they said they are a beauty and accessories store, different to the us stores. the cosmetic bags etc are apparently exclusive to there type of store. ive not been to the US but was nice to see the stuff and get a chance to have a smell.

lots of people run on the corniche - depending on your heat tolerence u could prob run from Oct to June, some other are still out there now joggoing but its v hot (43degree today) so it all depends on what your able for. There is a handball stadium that has tennis courts attached but not sure about Netball. Good luck

Wow, I havent checked in for a few days and there s been lots going on:) Great to see ! Bring as much as u can I would say, especialy patterns, I still havent come across one over here although fabric etc supplies are ok. There is a shop in the souk opp souk waquif that sell Janome machines, so if your needed fixing, they would come in handy - but bring your machine - there are lots of long days and nights and its good to be able to do something to entertain yourself andmake the new apt/villa a bit more homely. On the group organisation front, I think Aug would be great - Ramadan so shorter hours, ppl might have a bit more spare time. Maybe to meet in a coffee shop first for an introductory meeting, then we could organise a house rota and maybe keep it to host provised Tea/ Coffee and somethingy naughty and then switch it around every 2 weeks or month, depending on what ppl fancy? How bout Aug 2nd - Monday we met somewhere at 7pm and take thing from there??? If i get a few more responces here ill see about putting a formal group on EW site (not sure how,but ill figure it out!) edited by bilqat on 29/06/2011

Hi, I moved to Doha 4 mths ago and its really not as bad as some make it out to be and totaly what you make of it. I know a few teachers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and there opinions on there schools vary hugely but as it s tax free they grin, bear it and get on with making some good friends! Their are some sports clubs and other bits you can do, like helping out at QAWs animal shelter on weekends etc, depends what your in to. September is HOT! that would be the first thing to get used to and driving would be essential. You can get long term rental deals with a few different companies, but having a car will give u loads more freedom. [b'>I would suggest giving it a go for a year, it ll be an experience either way and you ll learn lots. [/b'> You can also use the various holidays (Big ,Small Eid National days etc) to visit the rest of the region which are all a small plane journey from here with FLy Dubai (for cheep flights). We try and go somewhere every 2 months, Dubai, Lebanon, Jrdan etc, all really great to see. So depending on what u like to get up - there are some bits to do :)

I always bring Tea from our country - it s something small but can be such a comfort when your feelin far from home and it cant be gotten outside Ireland. I think Medicine's that your aware of are a good idea, there are some here with different brand names to home but I prefer to use the home ones as i know how they work and what dosage works well - check if it s allowed before packing thou. Best of luck with the move :)

I recently found a haberdashery here in Doha. I honestly thought it was rawnaqs or nothing here. Then I discovered SAMS BOUTIQUE. If you were at Rawnaq you turn right towards the policeman directing traffic under the umbrella in the middle of the road. Cross the road towards the spiral/fanar building. Approx 100 metres up this road the rear side door of the fanar building is on your right and the shop is on the other side of the street to this door. This place is as good as John lewis seriously. I asked for everything and OMG they had it all. I have never seen so many cottons in my life and tapestry threads. Zips cut to order(8QR a Metre). Negotiate the price though as he starts off high, aim for about 30 per cent off his starting figure. It really is worth going to ! It only took me 2 years to find it ! Thanks, Great to know, ill go looking for it and see what i can find - any patterns there?? Finding them impossible to come by!

Yep, any sort of Needle work group sounds good. It would be best of all can join, Mum or not. Does the Doha Mums needle work group still meet up or Should we maybe set a time and place and see who arrives? Could have a general coffe meet up and see whos intrested and where to take it from there? All suggestions welcomed :)

I got a little kit in Carrefour, just ask one of the staff near the ironing board/household goods section. It was the one in city centre that i picked it up in. But you could go to the souk just beside souk waquif, think it s souk najmin or somehting like that. lots of thread shops there and all sorts of sewing bits. they're friendly enough in there but not overly friendly, I often go on my own to pick up fabric or bits.

Hey, have recently discovered a Burda Style web site - I think it s releated to the magazine your looking for and you can download free patterns from the site.
