The other thing about the Palm that a lot of people do not realize is it suffers dreadfully from humidity for quite a lot of the time - being surrounded by quite still water.

The Visa rules seem to be changing and it is difficult to find out the exact details. Canadians used to be issued a 30 day visitor visa upon arrival, but according to this site listed below, that may also be changing. This is the most recent information that we have found: http://www.propartnergroup.com/category/blog/ I see the propartner site referred to above said these new (again) regulations apply to ''NEW arrivals'' - who can only renew at the 40th day and must stay out for 24hrs - does this mean people coming to Dubai for the first time only and not if you have been in and out before and so have several stamps in your passport? These people (not new in Dubai) can still exit at Hata usually between 30 - 40days and then come straight back at the border - or not?? Has anyone done that since 9th October? I actually spoke to Go Tours today and they did not mention this new ( again) regulation.

I think what is meant by stone ware cooking pots and pans is actually more cast iron - like Le Creuset range which probably does need some oil or fat usually for cooking. You can get it at the better kitchenware shops like those in MOE. It's expensive but I think there are cheaper similar brands available also but Le Creuset is known for quality and lasts a long time..

I have had flu jab for last 3 years and been sick only once during that time. Before the jabs I used to get something like flu very often - usually after flying and was very ill. - I think aeroplanes carry infections - coughs, colds, flu. Of course they may have changed planes air quality. It's not the planes, it's the people you're travelling with on them. Standard after every holiday when everyone comes back from their home countries, they bring all their germs etc with them so everyone gets sick. Happens straight after the summer holidays every year and the turn in the weather every year. Ha ha, - yes indeed it is the passengers, of course, who are sometimes infectious - I would hate to be on an A380 at 40.000 ft + if it were coughing, sneezing and with a high temperature!

If your shipping is free - take advantage of it. Things here can be double the price that of UK - eg currently have been looking at vacuum cleaners. Amazon.co.uk had small Miele vacuums at about GBP90+ (they were all reduced on amazon) - but here I saw those models even in Carrefour super market at well over AED900 which is double the price. You wont find that sort of thing reduced here. Also shopping here is really exhausting and it is hard to find unbiased opinion in shops! Even buy new things you think you may want or need to bring with you. I think there is a tax on commercially imported goods ( it is only 5%?).

The property market here - buying, selling or renting is something of a jungle. Beware all agents. You need to be fit, healthy and fairly intelligent to succeed. Luck can also play a big part in how well you do.

Just keep in mind curtains here all need to be cleaned after a while because of the sand - so I prefer some that can be washed - I have just washed mine - manually in the bath - they are just simple unbleached cotton. This is hard work but they look much better now! The sand ( and I am 20 stories high) eventually makes curtains sort of dark grey!

I should be grateful for contact details for a good and hopefully reasonably priced firm to clean air con. system in Emaar apartment building. I know Mplus should know these systems as they work extensively in Emaar buildings but I have not been happy with them in the past. I was away in the summer and although I left air con. on - I think I may have mould in air con. ducts - as flat smells slightly but there is no sign of mould any where that can be seen. Thanks.

I think you have to look on the international recruiting sites. Some Phillipinos speak Spanish or there are a lot of girls in Spain itself looking for work. I know someone who gets her au pairs directly from Spain but can't give you any details. I know these Spanish au pairs also have English lessons.

You can usually find weed killer for lawns at garden centers. It kills the weeds but not the grass. Ask for advice at the garden center for what to use. Keep away fro pets and children.

There were examples of 11+ in a couple of UK papers a few days ago asking "Could you pass 11+?" - if anyone is interested to see what the exam is like. I failed some of the "pattern " tests. Coaching at least lets kids know what to expect and makes them more confident in the exam room. If they practice the format it can only help them. Also article said they have aim for 90% mark because it also depends on the number of places available and not on the actual mark so the very best only get places. Exams in themselves are often not "fair" anyway.

Good lawn grass will need to be watered about everyday for about 8 months of the year - but you have quite a small area. There is a substance can be added to soil to make it retain water but it is not permanent or cheap. Why not visit garden centers to look for plants you like and ask for advice regarding putting down grass/lawn/turf which they will probably do and the watering costs? Also look for gardening books for very dry hot locations. Perhaps a good smaller very green lawn area mixed with a gravel area might be a compromise. Awnings to give shade might help cut cost of watering. The "4 small trees" might become 4 large trees, depending what they are, fill the whole area and take all the water.

Generally if you know what you want - as in your case seems to be regarding fertility - you can go to a specialist directly. Try to find a recommended one - search on EW as this subject arises quite often. You can also try the better hospitals - the American Hospital has generally been well rated. Some other hospital may be not so good and best avoided.

Hi all, Good day. I wanna share some of my tested Do-It-Yourself Beauty Recipes Body Scrubs that would be perfect to make at home, either to keep for ourselves or to give away for a gift. You will enjoy the benefits of a spa right at your own home. Here are some easy-to-do lists: 1. Lemon Body Scrub: Supplies: 4 oz Mason Jars (or other air tight containers), 1 1/4 cup sea salt,2 tablespoons olive oil. Directions: In a small bowl mix the olive oil and sea salt together.(Once the salt is coated by the oil, the lemon can't dissolve it!). Next, zest the lemon rind until only white it remaining on the outside of the lemon. Add the zest to the salt and oil mixture. Roll the lemon firmly on a cutting board to burst the juice capsules. Cut the lemon in half and squeeze over the mixture. Use a fork or spatula to blend and mash creating a body scrub. Store scrub in an air tight container for up to one month. Label your container. 2. Ginger Detox Body Scrub Supplies: 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, 1/2 cup of Epsom salt, 1 tablespoon lemon juice Directions: Combine roughly chopped ginger and 1/2 cup Epsom salt in a food processor. Pulse a few times until the ginger is ground and combined. Remove to a small bowl and add lemon juice. Put down a towel and apply scrub before your detox bath. You'll want to stand on a large towel to catch the scrub because it gets a little messy. Then scoop some in your hand, and starting with your feet, work upward. Do not scrub sensitive areas! Pulsing it in the food processor makes the Epsom salt much easier on the skin, but still. Take your time and enjoy the smell of fresh ginger. I tend to rush and have half the scrub left at the end. That's always a good reminder to relax and go over things again. Before you start scrubbing, start filling the bath with hot water. The heat and the ginger will make you sweat! Which is pretty much the goal, right? Because sweating is how the body eliminates toxins. Plus it also helps unclog your pores and relax the muscles. 3. Honey Brown Sugar Scrub Supplies: 2 1/4 cups brown sugar, 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup honey, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp cinnamon(optional) Directions: In a bowl, combine all ingredients until fully mixed; store in an airtight container, I recommend adding 1 teaspoon of vitamin E oil to your scrub to make it last longer. See you tomorrow for more... Try and you will see the difference. Perfect timing! Lots of news articles about how the tiny plastic or silicon beads in cosmetic commercial body and face scrubs and even it seems tooth paste, do not dissolve at all and are ending up in the SEA as pollution; they are eaten by fish and so coming back to us in the food chain! They are to be banned.

Thanks so much for your reply. Our wee dog is our baby too so I want to be sure it would work for him. Do they need to go in to quarantine when they arrive or do they travel through with just a pet passport. Is it expensive ? Our dog is a working cocker spaniel so does have a lot of energy! Is it easy to find vets and dog food and good boarding kennels ? While my husband is away flying I'd just want to know there is a good community feel to the area just so I don't feel too isolated. Is it easy to get into Dubai centre ? Did you ship out furniture or buy it all out there ? Is there a communal pool in Meydan heights? Sorry for all the questions I just have a lot of them! thanks again for all your advice. :) Your cocker spaniel will no doubt find outdoor life in Dubai very HOT indeed - with his longer haired coat. Most dogs get good trims in the summer and very early walkies.

Agree with being available on line. There is a massive amount of retail here but not everyone has energy or time to pound round the Malls. I also think there are a lot of larger older ladies in this area, .Then of course you would have to deliver the items which might nor be so easy.

Once you have located your exact area - start contacting rental estate agents there with your criteria. They will have a list of landlords willing to accept "well behaved" pets etc. Most landlord will accept small well behaved pets in their houses and even flats. It may put up your deposit though..

Have you looked through the 76 page thread on the site www.expatforum.com called "How to find a job in Dubai..."? It might give you some ideas/thought. There are fewer people in Dubai in August because of the hot weather and expatwoman is not as active as it used to be. I heard IKEA in Dubai had some jobs at the moment but this may not suit you. Another thing - if you work some where like IKEA you would probably need your own car as it is not near public transport.

Sorry to learn of your situation. You do not say what work you do. If you let EW know you might get more replies. What are your qualifications and years experience? It is generally known finding a job from random in Dubai is very difficult. These are not boom times. .People are being let go. Have you search/ asked employment agencies? Your financial situation appears very weak so to take this plunge seems risky for you. Is your husband;s job very, very secure ? I presume your DH can get a Visa for you.and has his own accommodation in Dubai. Could you just live together very frugally and hope for the best ? Good luck!

Just thought I'd mention here though it does not seem to apply to you - in UK there are a number of phone- in soft porn TV "channels" which can be seen very easily by anyone on Free View and SKY etc - which can hardly be avoided if flicking through. Without paying for any phone call "service" the screen shows virtually naked, very sexy, young and beautiful women doing all sorts of gyrations! Some of them are quite extraordinary in their movements - makes me think "how do you do THAT!? An education to me! I read recently in more than one paper that some men are in fact not able to be "turned on" by "ordinary" women because they watch too much porn and are conditioned by it!

I think a lot of people ask to see the original Title Deeds.- even if it is all in Arabic. The name in it must be the landlord. Check it is not a photo copy you only see as the details can be changed while photo copying but get photo copy to keep. There was that scam in the Greens where someone rented a number of flats by fraud as he did not have any connection to the owners - I don't remember how it was done but a lot of people lost a lot of money as he cashed the cheques. The agent should by now have updated her RERA number - why has it not been done for over 3 months? The owner/landlord should sign the contract or if not there should be a genuine POA which you should verify. The landlord should be willing to sign in front of you. If he is not it may show he will not be helpful if any problems arise - as this may be his attitude. Is he paying the DEWA and community charges on the contract?

II really sound too dreadful! There are supposed to time restrictions when this noisy work can be done - do you know what they are? (Sorry I don't but in larger development like those of Emaar the work does not go on after a certain time or start earlier than a certain time). Can you not speak to someone on the site - or ask who you can speak to about the noise and shaking? Do you have landlord - perhaps the owner should know because the work may be damaging his property if it is being shaken?! If you are really interested in the stages of constructions - there are several good books on amazon.co.uk about how to build a house.

You could do all these places quite easily in 4 weeks. Consider driving hired car/s through the various destinations you want to see.. From Venice you can drive into nearby Austria then Switzerland. - from there to France - either north to Paris or south to Barcelona. From Paris you can take train to Netherlands. Or from Italy you can go to South of France and drive A8 motorway along the coast into Spain.Be aware trains in the South of France are often on strike but Swiss trains are very good. You wont see so much of Europe if you try to fly everywhere. However beware of being stopped and robbed on roads in Italy by Eastern Europeans pretending to be policemen. This happened to my daughter south of Genoa - police told her it was quite common.

You have my sincere sympathies. Your gardener should do as you ask him regarding jobs. Hedges can grow back but can take a very long time. Put in writing all the jobs the gardener can/should do and give it to him. If he has another language - have the list translated. Make him sign it.. Keep copy for yourself. I have a house in France and someone cut back very hard a hedge that was a lot of trouble and expense to grow because the soil is mostly rock. Before the hedge has grown back the neighbour's little house was sold, pulled down and another larger one replaced it now overlooking me!!

You do not say if you have consulted a lawyer. Although you may wish to avoid the expense it may be your best/only course of action. You may have a case against your bank for not checking signatures on the cheques. The police will not act for you as a lawyer.

I did try a while ago to make Nigella's strawberry ice cream which uses a lot of eggs. I had the cheaper sort of ice cream maker where you have to freeze bowl for the mixture in the freezer first for 24 hours - but found it did not work at all well and was either runny in the middle or icy on the sides. I have never used it again. I suppose it depends on your freezer - but if I wanted home made ice cream I would buy a freezing ice cream machine.
