Just a brief "look up" for Uber in Dubai - seems they are those luxury black limos. one sees at the airport that are more expensive than taxis?

Hi - hope you enjoy your trip to Dubai. I may not be the best person to answer your questions but as no one else has - as far as I know there is no Uber in Dubai ( it would not be allowed). If you can find Air b&b here and your main concern is getting to Emirates Golf Club - staying somewhere like - The Greens , The Views, Jumeirha Lake Towers or even the Marina would be best/nearest. TECOM is also quite near. You can get the metro to get off at University Metro Station ( used to be called Nakeel ) which is right at the golf course . At the Greens and the Views there is a bus that takes you from small shopping centre of the Greens to the Mall of the Emirates from where you can get metro. There is a bus from here also to the metro but it doesn't run very often I find. TECOM has its metro station call Internet City Metro Station. Have you looked at a map of Dubai? These areas i mentioned are all flats not houses. Otherwise if you can take taxis you could stay in somewhere like Arabian Ranches - all houses. You would need a working phone - you can get one here from Du - phone provider - which has an office in Mall of the Emirates and elsewhere. You may not be able to walk much because of the heat. There are taxis everywhere - one just stands at the side of a road (but not the major roads or inside gated communities) and they appear. Best wishes.

Cara's at Gold and Diamond park are very good. They do have loose stones, maybe they would have one to match what you currently have. Thanks Tim Tam - I did a Search but nothing came up - I remember now Cara has been mentioned in the past - will give them a try..

Dr. Rolf Soehnchen at BR medical suites in healthcare city. also sits at symbiosis medical center in silicon oasis. german man, and very stoic in manner (brusque, no chit chat, dry) but an excellent doctor. i had dyshydrotic eczema on my hands and he's the only one that knew what it was and gave me something to help it and find the root cause of it. check him out. i hated him when i first went to him when i was pregnant but he grew on me. Yes he is very good - never mind the manner!

Been to Bahamas and Mauritius - would have to chose Mauritius. Actually was very disappointed with Nassau - crowds of cruise people off boats - seemed to be "low cost " cruises from US. But the outer smaller islands are better.

I'm very disillusioned with dentists at the moment - it is very difficult to choose one - if you need to. I went to an dentist in Weymouth St. just off Harley st., London recently and had some work done on more than one tooth. When I went back to tell him I had a very poor bite and could hardly eat he started reducing a tooth which he had not worked on before! I told him it was the upper tooth he had restored - he insisted I was wrong. Then he said "it's all right" i.e I did not have a problem and then I was out the door! One thing I noticed about dentist is they do not take time to listen and either have their hands in your mouth or one is out the door! I emailed the next day to let him know I still had a very bad bite only to be told he had gone away for 10 days! I myself had to leave London too! He told needed I needed 2 teeth implants and pulled out 2 teeth as a start for the procedure! He charges £3,000 per implant! I don't think I'll go back to him and may not do the implants!

Thank you so much for the replies. Really seems that UK is going to be a good decision. He has the option to pick from the bristol or the wolverhampton office, so its going to be one of the 2. My daughter is 3 years old, so i guess we would be spending a ton on childcare/nursery. BIg scary steps :), I guess i am very materialistic. My husband plans to set up a visit to both places later this year so we can see and evaluate. I love Dubai :). Bristol is a lovely part of the world. If I had to chose between there or Wolverhampton I would chose Bristol  I've read Wolverhampton is a "depressed" area - never been there though. With Bristol you have a fairly good regional airport and also quite near for outings to Devon and Cornwall - weather permitting.

It is unlikely you will find a genuine Canadian tax expert in UAE - even the larger accountancy firms here, though their companies may be based in places like UK , US ( or even Canada) - those people working for them here do not have expertise to give on the record advice about tax in their home country - according to my experience i.e - you would not be able to sue them for bad advice. Someone at one of the big three working here told me that. You are better to get advice communicating with a firm in Canada.

Many thanks for the replies - just about what we thought. The property could be rented but then one could also miss a sale which would have to be delayed for a year. We also get many spam emails from estate agents - mostly obscure ones saying they want to sell properties - I don't know how they make a living.

I went there by "mistake" as i had to wait an unexpected 2 hours for a solicitor's appointment nearby who was late. I took a taxi to fish market and soon saw a lot of small shops - the area was very quiet. I wandered about but ended up buying 2 fake small Channel bags with the quilted flower pattern, which were good - but when i got them home they had a "chemical" smell! I also bought a good fake Omega watch - the fakes are "thicker" in depth than the originals but otherwise look the same. I did not haggle as the items seemed good for the price.

I have been on and off BHRT for some years now. I do not have a problem with them but do not take them everyday... They certainly helped with the hot flashes, vag dryness and thinning labia...etc...I am 65 this month and still take them but as I said not every day...only 3x a week, sometimes only 2x's. I think you need to ask yourself why your Dr. is considering putting you on any hormone replacement? are you having a hard time in menopause? what are your symptoms and will Bhrt help with those? how is your diet and excersize regime..do you take a multivit...have you had a blood panel to see if you are deficient in any vits. I feel there is a whole lot to consider before going on anything. Do not just research Bhrt but research options in menopause and how to get through it. Now, if your symptoms are upsetting you then yes, it might be the way to go for 3 months. that really is not a long time and can alleviate the symptoms but remember menopause lasts longer than 3 months lol... but it might get you to a place where you can deal with it changing diet and exercise. Anyway, as I said, I am on bhrt infrequently now. I talked to my Dr. about the age women live to now and really, our bodies should just get with the program and not go through menopause until 70 lol..then who gives a s hit lol.... Does BHRT help with tiredness/extreme tiredness in the "older" woman? How much is it exactly? Thanks

Hi TiredMummy - sorry to see you have had over 220 "viewings" but no advice! Perhaps no one has a solution to this problem! A lot of men are not very "domesticated" and even see house work as "woman's" work - no matter what. You do have a maid during the week so there should not be that much to do at week ends. Why not just let the chores accumulate until Sunday?! It seems you want your husband to do house work with you but why don't you just plan weekend outings for everyone instead.? If you are out, the house want get into such a mess and there are inexpensive places to eat out - so you won't have to cook! Otherwise - never mind nagging - just tell your husband to do the work at weekends or your leave him and take kids, money etc too?!,

For legal action to be taken in a situation as this, the person has to have actually lied to you and informed you that they had qualifications that they did not. But as I am not sure of the legal qualifications required to work in the position of financial advisor, I cannot inform you of what qualifications that had to have been lied about holding. If you were led by his salesmanship to believe he held some qualifications - did you ask him? Did you protect yourself? Unconscionability tends tobe an equitable argument in other countries... but there is no court of equity here. Was the person working for a company? And what was their position? If he was in a position of financial advisor in a registered company, the fight would be with the company. But most companies will contract their hands clean and will have your autograph on a piece of paper indemnifying them as they are only advisors based on predictions, not on future knowledge which no one has. Have you contacted a law firm to query? If the adviser was with one of those "financial advice" companies - are they not required to hold insurance for client's losses due to their own poor advice? One sees ads. on UK TV by legal firms showing how a pensioner got back compensation when poor financial advice cause him losses etc..Also - did the adviser make you fill in a form indicatiing what level of risk was acceptable to you i.e - high, medium, low or none before investing your money?? So you would have thereby have let him know you did not want a high risk investment? I think they have to do that now in UK.

mplus have completely lost the plot. They used to be good but now they're up to their ears in silly rules and so much paperwork (quotes, invoices for ghost jobs, etc.), that the work which needs to be done just ends up being bottom of the list, which is all the customer wants. They have lost at least two major jobs with me because of their newly found bureaucracy! "Someone will phone you to give you a quote, someone will come to inspect, someone will follow up, etc. etc." but no one phones and no one turns up. Then you get these weird random bills a month later through their online system  I just ignore them since they haven't done the work. You need to sign off on a job before you hand over any cash, so if you haven't done that, just hit the delete button. As for their ridiculous charges, you have so many other options. I have used JWFI, Must Have Maintenance, Smashing Clean, etc. Not to mention the hundreds of handymen out there. If you need carpentry work, try Farhad (don't have his number to hand but he's been recommended many times on this forum). Many thanks indeed Rawla for recommending Farhad who did these job for me very well!

I could not see article in Telegraph as it is by subscription only but I get the general drift. Nothing new. Dubai bashing has been a la mode for so many years now it must almost actually be UNfashionable! I remember the well publicized article by Germaine Greer from some years ago. I think she went on a big bus tour here between connection to Oz. She could not stand the petunias in particular!

I pulled out a bundle of old plastic bags that had been in a cupboard for some time (years?!). I was surprised one of them fell apart immediately - all black bits over the floor - I think it was a M & S bag ( which are green). Also I took from this pile a "paid for" Carrfour large bag with me to Carrfour and that also started to fall apart too! By the way - don't buy a certain kind of smoked salmon there - i think it is possibly made locally ( Salmon Fishing in Yemen?) and will spoil your dinner party!

I've noticed there is a bus that goes from Ranches to Mall of Emirates quite often and then probably on to somewhere else. From MOE you can take Metro. You would need to live quite near the bus stop/s in Ranches. Buses are good - clean and cool but crowded on Fridays. I don't know how easy it is to pick up a taxi in Ranches - but you can always get a taxi back to Ranches. Or perhaps you could consider private car with driver for 1 or 2 days/half days a week?

Have you tried various natural foods ?- I find Brazil nuts more than very effective for anything in that department - in fact they have the opposite effect - I have to avoid them! You may find another kind of nut helps if not Brazil! Also things like berries such as blackberries, raspberries and red currents ( all in large supermarkets) should help - or even just eating a lot of raw fruit - unpeeled apples and pears etc. In the old days people use to just take caster oil and/or senakot.

I have seen a lot of eye doctors for various problems, one being retinal detachment. I have seen Dr. Gauba for several years now, very good. The retinal specialist who worked in his clinic was very good, and when my retinal detachment was spotted I was whisked straight in to see him to have treatment. I went for a 2nd opinion at Moorfields and didn't rate the guy there (Dr. Edmundo, I think?) Just not a very people person and did not explain things to me very well at all compared with what I had been told elsewhere. I then went for a 3rd opinion as they referred me to Imperial College London Diabetes Centre in AD, and the South African Dr. there was very good (he spends time between Moorfields and ICL I believe.) Dr. Grimm is also good but I have not been to see her in a while. I was also disappointed with my experience at the Moorfields - but don't remember the specialist's name ( but not Dr Edmundo). I was very allergic to drops he prescribed me and I don't think he even asked if I was allergic to anything or ignored what I said to him (I recently found out that drug in those drops can cause death from allergy!). I had to stop the drops immediately - so that was a waste of time and money. The other thing that happened which may have been a one off - when i tried to phone to make an appointment - they picked up but no one said "hello" at reception and on re-dialling a few times - no one answered phone for about half an hour a between 9 a.m and 10 am.!

Try to find out where exactly you will be living. Some areas there had/have from time to time the smell of sewage as they are near a treatment plant. The other thing is - although you will get transport for work - taxi from here may be expensive to other place you may want to visit, although I think there is also a bus service to I. C. ( Buses are good). Taxi to the nearest metro station will be expensive. Traffic is very heavy in that area .However it is near Dragon Mart for shopping if you can get across the road! Best wishes.

Hi - I have a flat in Dubai which I am considering selling or renting..I thought I should sell it as I will not be in the area but would like to ask how difficult is it to rent as an absent landlord? Can the tenant be responsible for paying all the charges on the property as part of the agreement and rent be paid to a bank outside UAE - or is such an arrangement difficult? Thanks. I imagine it's doable but annual charges are normally paid by the LL therefore you would have to reduce that amount from the rent plus pay the bank charge for the tenant to send the money to a non UAE one Your best bet would be to hire a property management company in Dubai to act as the go between Thanks sarahlou for your information - mostly what I thought. Hopefully a managing agent would take care of the DEWA property tax and the management charges - the only payments needed to be made but of course essential.

Hi, usually they charge 2% buyer commission and 2% seller commission. I am working for the German Real Estate Company Engel & Voelkers. specialized also in selling/buying properties. So if you need any help please contact me. Thanks Sab0893 for your input. I did know about the 2% payment for both buyer and sell as far as the transfer "tax" or whatever it is call needing to be paid but not about 2% agent's fees - so altogether minimum selling costs would be about 4% to seller plus solicitors fees - I presume? What area of Dubai do you cover? I get about 4-5 spams a day from obscure estate agents - don't know how they got my email address! What are prices like at the moment? What is a good time of year to sell? Thanks
