The "single person" wil have to "walk the walk" to find the best, cheapest, nicest accommodation they like. Maybe sharing would be a good option and get a better area or nicer flat at the same price as studio and share the bills? I think single women are allowed to share. Otherwise - looking at dubizzle - Deira has studios from about 22,000 AED a year, Sharjah goes down to about 18,000 AED and International City - mostly in mid 30,000AEDs.

Be sure to take a look at the Greens and Views - mostly flats but there are some villas/town houses too. Very near to Media City and good if your husband is away. Very w*****n,has a shopping centre, bus stops, pools and play areas and you can pick up a taxi by walking out on the street any time of the day or night. Lots of children and babies. Some banks and cafes nearby.

There was an article in the Daily Mail not long ago with graphic photos about women who had got infections from bad pedicures and the photos were not pretty! Some of nearly had to have toes amputated!

Are any of those on-line chemists safe for ordering prescription medication on internet? If so - which? I have never used them myself and have heard bad things about them but they seem convenient if OK! Bingo12 - I used a couple a few years ago for bulk buying my Oestrogen which you can't get here in the right format... delivery great, however in both cases my credit card was compromised!! Because it is a prescription they have your DOB and this can be used to change your card. The process on the sites I used was to complete the online prescription then send it to them - they then (later) processed the payment... when my bank's online verification page came up they didn't have the necessary password but went in and changed it!!! Luckily my bank's online fraud department were in touch very quickly (I was on visit to England at the time) and nothing further happened.... however it has made me wary. Thanks Amelton for that information. I had read how the actual presciptions sent could be some things like just chalk or even rat poison(?!) instead of the drug you wanted. It is such a worry - on-line fraud. Seems this was a bit of racket! At least you wern't poisoned!

What is he charged with? OP may not want to reveal what DH is charged with.Does that affect her situation? Of course it does...... Depending on what he has done, affects whether people are willing to help. And sorry OP, i doubt your husband has done nothing wrong if he has been held for a year. Izzy, charged with ...........does NOT equate to guilty. And even if it did, the OP is an innocent party in great difficulty. OP, I no longer live in UAE and cannot offer you any constructive help or advice, except to wish you all the best. And, I have wanted to say this for a long time, EW used to be a very different forum. Perhaps we were more trusting, or more naive. but it was certainly a kinder place. Yes EW used to be brighter, sweeter, jollier etc...There used to be someone called "banana muffin" - in abour 2008 - what happened to her? edited by bingo12 on 30/11/2014

I have blown a tyre here on 3 occasions, someone has always stopped and changed it for me :-) I had a wonderful Emirati guy stop His Kandoora was covered in grease, I offered to pay the dry cleaning bill and he said not to worry as he had a wardrobe full of them at home. Well, that's good to hear - I guess one just stand about looking visible - if it is not too hot!:)

Dubai is regarded as one of the safest places in the world to live in. One even becomes a little lax with things like holding on tight to a handbag etc. and when one leaves one has to double check being careful again. edited by bingo12 on 29/11/2014

Leasehold or freehold, it hardly matters - everybody is always only 30 days away from being kicked out of the country. And I've yet to see evidence that freehold means you actually own the land outright anyway. Agree 100 per cent. Leasehold or freehold - you do not, and will not, own the land your property is built on. As owners of Springs villas discovered when the new road was approved ! I have never understood why people buy here when we have no permanent right of abode. Your right to stay here is tied into your job/visa. Without that, you have to leave. 30 days is only just long enough to wrap everything up and leave when you have no ties, but having to sell property in that time? No thanks. Then again some people manage to stay in UAE for 30 + years along with extended families plus the kitchen sink! I guess these are mostly people with their own businesses.

Don't forget transport - taxis if she doesn't have her own car. I just want to answer the question that OP asked directly. No, 1000 is not nearly enough for the expense you mention. Here are my rough calculations: Fitness classes: average 50 and 100 dhms per group class x twice a week - 650 dhm a month Breakfasts (to network, meet friends etc): on average 70 dhms(15-20 for a coffee, 30-50 hot dish, tip) x twice a week - 600 dhm a month Lunches (to network, meet friends etc): depending where you go, but unlikely to go to a food court, so say 100 on average x twice a week - 850 dhm a month Haircut - 200 dhms I haven't even mentioned nails or make up or presents or clothes and the total is already at 2,300. So if your situation is such that you get a certain budget from your DH - you need to ask for more than 2000.

Perhaps you can negociate with Emaar whereby you pay the maintenance charge to get the parking key but they still bill the LL and when they are paid they refund you.

Sweet tea - you know Emaar have small admin. office in the Links building in the Views - on the ground floor - just off the entrance area? ( I mean the building opposite Golf Towers 2 on Street 3). I'm not sure if it is only for the Views - but at least you could go into there to talk face to face - they are quite helpful and it would save you having to go down to the Emaar offices. I don't think phoning Emaar is as effective.

Are you in contact with your landlord? Have you asked him about paying the communal charges? Emaar is just coming up to sending out charges for 2015. Emaar usually puts up a list in communal parts of anyone who has not paid the maintenance fees - such as near entrances and lifts - naming people who have not paid - to "shame" them, presumably. If your landlord is in Dubai he may not like this. Ask Emaar to put up your landlord's name in a communal place as a non payer of the charges.

I bought a jug type coffee filter machine recently - the sort that has the heated plate to keep it warm and was very disappointed in the taste of the coffee. I knew the coffee was good ( Boon Coffee) as I had drunk it in their shop. So the quality of the machine counts.

I hate the way young people use "like" in every other sentence - as it - "It's like raining" - meaning "it is raining" - so annoying. They think it's cool but it just makes them look stupid but it's a very catching habit. I also get very annoyed when people use multiple words instead of one - such as "at the present time" instead of "now" - they just seem pompous.

Sorry to hear of your problem. Had it once myself - not in Dubai (was staying at a country house in UK). Maybe call a pest control company. Carrefour do anti- moth items for cupboards. But if you have discovered a lot of moths it's probably too late. I had loads of cashmere that were all ruined. If you don't have much wool your damage may not be too bad. You know putting clothes in freezer kills the eggs. Also using those vacuum bags gives protection.

Very sorry to read your post. If your daughter isn't better soon - do you know a good children's doctor she can see? As you say - she is "grieving, confused and jetlagged" but the jetlag should be wearing off now after 5 days. However, I did witness similar behavour from a 4 year old who could only have been jetlagged (and did not have the experience of a death in the family) for about 3 or 4 days after a long flight.

Thanks simple for going to the trouble of looking that up. I see on sites like www.homeaway.co.uk some Emaar villa properties are being advertised as daily lets but should of thought that wasn't allowed. Would be interested if anyone knows where lets for furnished properties is allowed for less than a year. I think it's allowed in some buildings on Palm but then again what I have seen are also daily or weekly lets i.e. short holiday lets. I think generally these are frowned on because they compete wilh all the hotels.

Emaar do not allow barbeques on balconies because of fire danger and also smells, noise etc. to other flats - understandable really. Also - one is not allowed to throw cig. buts off balconies - this nearly cause a fire too in my building we were told!

My understanding is that she should get married in a civil marrage ( not religious) in UK for her married rights to be recognised there and also in the Muslin marriage in UAE for it to be a religious one. ( as Muslim marriages allow for more than one wife - they were not recognised in UK in past anyway ).

He is sending them back to her country while he remains here; hopefully he is doing it for her good and not to please my husband and keep his job. Meanwhile we have searched the house top to bottom for my second sons Quran, which he has been memorising from for four years. His sheikh has written notes on it for four years, ie, it contains four years work. We all know where exactly it was before the lipstick attack happened, then the highlighter attack on books and furniture; sadly it was open on the coffee table. We have all done a time-investigation and we all know where it was, at what time, and when it went missing, which is when the mother came back and noticed her sons lipstick artwork on my walls and books. My sons Quran went missing at that time. It is not in this house no, nowhere. It is either in the bin or has been taken. Both are terrible things, the second amounting to theft. I feel more sad about that than anything, for any sacred text whether it be hindu scripture or a bible. We cant prove it, if I confront it may just be denied so what is the point. But I am really sad my sons four years of work on his Quran are now lost. Anyhow another day, all lessons must be learned!! thanks for everyones help. "A good deed never goes unrewarded" is a saying could be applied here!
