Oh, they definitely need to improve things! The last few times DH and I have gone to see adult films late at night there have been small children in the audience. :(

275 per person including drinks (mojito, sparkling wine) and I'm pretty sure it is free for kids under 12. A good day. Recommended!

There was a thread about Bonjela recently. 'Bonjela Teething Gel' is safe but 'Bonjela' contains an ingredient linked to Reyes syndrome and is unsuitable for anyone under 16. The pharmacists here don't seem to distinguish between them. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article6150406.ece

Personally, I think an outdoor pool is the best place to be in the heat and a good place to comfortably get some vitamin D.

I'm sure they do come in from outside. If you trace back their trail and find the point of entry, which can be tricky, you can get rid of them completely.

Just finished Water for Elephants which I enjoyed. What next?? Might try and get Not Without My Daughter. Willow, Not Without My Daughter is a great read would definitely recommend it. I just finished this book. I stayed awake until the wee hours as I just had to know how it ended. Great read!!

Absolutely. It's just not worth the risk! What happens if the AC fails?? In this heat the ambient temperatures in a car can very quickly become fatal, especially for children who don't regulate their body temperatures well.

Well, my favourite for LO is 'Chocolate Mousse for Greedy Goose' (by the authors of the Gruffalo) but she loves anything 'In the Night Garden'! She occasionally sits through Peepo (Allberg) and because she really does love him 'My Brother' by Anthony Browne.

I find short periods of relative neglect work! From time to time I attempt to set up some absorbing activities (bubbles in the sink, water in the sand pit, sprinkler in the garden, playdough are the favourites of the moment) and let them get on with it while I have a cup of tea. More often than not said activity degenerates into messy chaos within afew minutes or they start bickering/needing a pooh/injuring themselves (noisily but not seriously) but I really enjoy the intitial promise of some peace and quiet at least and sometimes, blissfully, it lasts for just a little longer...

I think Favorite Things is a total rip off. I've been boycotting it for ages now! Utterly overpriced and the toys/equipment are all in various states of disrepair. Rubbish. Fat Burger on Beach Road has a really nice (newish) little soft play area. Age restrictions can be difficult when you have two but at the very least I'd be making sure that my older one was considerate and well behaved if I wanted to bend the rules.

Fabulous advice from the other women. Just to add that I went through a phase of being quite worried about DD. I was breastfeeding on demand and she was ravenously accepting all solids but was just so tiny and not gaining any weight. We've done nothing differently and now I can't seem to keep her in the same clothes for long before she outgrows them. It sounds like you're doing a great job and that she's a very happy baby. edited by BrownEyedGirl on 07/05/2011

I believe the accepted wisdom is now that calpol should only be given in the event of post vaccination fever. Not before it appears, purely as a preventative measure. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/6336370/Children-should-not-be-given-common-painkiller-after-a-vaccine.html

AdviceSeeker it has to be Antiques Museum in Al quorz - its an absolute gem of a place which I discovered back in 2004/5. It is by no means glitzy (unlike Madinat!) as it is a group of warehouses & a maze or rooms after rooms.......after all these years I still probably haven't seen all of it. Anyway they have everything & I mean everything-you name it, they've got it, just tell them what you want & tehy will find it. I've always dealt with a guy called Bob-he's a short Indian guy (probably not really called Bob) & extreemly friendly, he was always 'top dog' as far as giving the ok to the other staff for givning extra discounts. So ask for Bob or if not at least Bob's price! You can bargain & their prices are amazing. Its always a def trip out when I have visitors but be prepared to 'loose' yourself in there & half a day with it! but you'll come home with some gems. I always get horribly lost in Al Quoz. Would you mind posting some foolproof directions please?! :)

I'm sorry for you. :( Actually vomiting won't make the nausea any better I don't think. I wasn't ever actually sick either. I found that eating often helped (and I still haven't moved on from that approach even though my I'm well past pregnancy!). I know it's really hard but just try to remember that it will be better soon and your beautiful baby will make it all worth while. edited by BrownEyedGirl on 24/04/2011

DS1 slept in our room until he was just over a year. DD was very different! She didn't like her moses basket and was such a light sleeper that moving her into her own room after a couple of months was the sensible option for us. We kept both doors open and had the baby monitor on too but I would often wake in a mild panic and rush into her room to check if she was breathing ok!!

I read Water For Elephants a few years ago and found it extremely frustrating. With every single page I had this weird feeling of déjà vu. Not just once, but every time I picked it up. I could also 'see' it all happening, like I'd seen a really old movie of almost the exact same story. I could predict chapters in advance what was going to happen with bizarre accuracy. No, I had not read it before. No, I'm not usually that perceptive. ;) Lol. For a while there I actually expected there to be some public outrage about plagiarism! How weird Greenish, I know exactly what you mean! It didn't do it for me either.

Just finished The Hand that First Held Mine by Maggie O'Farrell - loved it! Now onto The Almost Moon by Alice Sebold - anyone read that? Really want to read The Help next. A bit after the event maybe but just wanted to say that I really enjoyed 'The Almost Moon'. I found it moving and easy to read though I think the general perception was that it didn't deliver in the way that her first novel did. I didn't have any problems empathising with the protagonist and found it's rather blunt style appropriate.

Lots to think about KellsBells! I'd be arranging plenty of viewings for buying and renting, regardless of what agents say about timing. If necessary tell them that you're looking to move in the next few weeks. This is the only way to get a good idea about what's out there and how much they are really going for. If you persevere I'm sure you will find some nice villas but I'm always shocked at the condition that some landlords market their properties for rent! Good luck! edited by BrownEyedGirl on 23/04/2011

We recently had a brilliant night at Trader Vics at the Madinat. We got a really good outside spot and the atmosphere was perfect (as were the cocktails!). Afterwards we headed up to the rooftop terrace at Sho Fee Ma Fee. The weather is still perfect and the view of the Burj (& the moon that night) was wonderful.
