I got one a long time ago. It was free and painless, although some places stopped giving the discount without further notice. I haven't used it in ages. I got mine a long time ago as well. It was really easy. I just applied online, got an email through telling me when it was ready, I then just went and picked it up. I have to say, I do tend to forget to ask if they take it! The last place I used it was the Barasti, I think you get a discount on food not drink, buy hey, for free you can't complain

I dont know about a team, but if you ask at the red lion at the metropolitan (J2 SZR) or the old vic at ramada bur dubai they should be able to help you The Metropolitan has been demolished! Try the Byblos hotel in the Marina, I am sure I seen a darts match going on there a few weeks ago.

I did see what looked like a darts match in Nell Gwynne's in the Byblos hotel in the Marina a few weeks ago. Might be worth giving them a ring/popping in to find out.

Just found an old Time out. It says there is a Dubai Gardening club and if you email: [email protected] they will put you in touch with others who feel the same. Now if that email still exists I don't know but might be worth a try!

We grew veg for a couple of years. We dug some trenches then filled them with peat, planted the seeds in little seedling pots (I think that is what they are called!) then when they were big enough, planted them in the ground!! What we didn't do though which was a mistake when we were growing carrots is dig far enough down and made sure that the sand was not full of stones etc... Our carrots looked great from the top, pulled one up and it was only about two inches long :\: It was very easy to grow a lot of stuff, gave loads away :) What is it you are planning to grow?

I have to say, I am not offended by the way people dress. I do wonder why they dress certain ways during the day but, everyone to their own!! The bad language blasting out of speakers in malls though I can't get my head around!! Children can pick that up! It is just so wrong!!! Just tell the staff in the shops to turn it off. I don't actually have small children, I am just shocked at the amount of bad language that is played out loud in shops where there are children. If I had small children then I would certainly ask them to!!!

Go for the IPad and then you can download the kindle app onto it. You can also buy a special stylus for iPads for those who are not so good with their fingers! http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0050OFF42/?tag=hydra0b-21&hvadid=9555489909&ref=asc_df_B0050OFF42 I was going to suggest that myself, I had the kindle app on mine before I got my kindle. The only 2 things against that is 1. It might be a bit too heavy for her to hold and read for a while 2. The battery life is no where near as good as the kindle!

Just looked at the Kindle fire, you can surf the web, email etc... on that and I am sure it will be a lot lighter and easier for her to use than the ipad. Worth looking at. http://www.amazon.co.uk/kindle-fire-tablet-amazon-tablets/dp/B0083Q04M2

Going back home to Ohio, seventh year out of seven here. Could not imagine spending it here, we'd be so sad ! Need the cold, the family, the house, the neighborhoods lit up, all the many little things that make it truly Christmas. And the Starbucks holiday lattes! Sounds like a dream :) Me, I thought it would be awful having Christmas somewhere hot and of course where it did not affect anything as in shops being open, taxi's etc...I have however gotten used to it and found that as long as i am with the people I love, it doesn't matter where in the world we are :)

Sorry Buttercup, didn't see your earlier post. No, not for good. DH and I agreed between us that Christmas is a harsh time to visit (growing children need a full set of winter clothes each time and are limited to how much time they can safely spend outdoors) so would make future visits in the summer only. Know what you mean! I am sure my kids started growing out of the stuff before we even left the shop!! I bet the summers are beautiful :)

Gorobattie dear, do not stop this forum because of a silly comment. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion and it is our choice how we read and accept that opinion. Dealing with maids can be difficult at the best of times and in the best of situations. You stay true to yourself and you will finish in front. [b'> I have to say that I have [/b'>[b'>[b'>never in my life know of someone who did not get what their deserve in this life[/b'>[/b'>. Heading home for Christmas for the first time in many, many years. Not look ing forward to the long journey for just over a week but am looking forward to Christmas with the family, am I crazy lol???? Will be a big change from the usual here!!! TOLB, where is home?? A week is a long time to get there! I am sure you will have a wonderful time and it will all be worth it :D TOLB I hope the week-long journey will be OK. I will be thinking of you and DH as you make your way up and up.... Just to fill you all in TOLB lives in an amazing place best described as: For sheer inaccessibility, few locations in South America compare to La Rinconada, a small mining town in the Peruvian Andes. Located nearly 17,000 feet above sea level, La Rinconada is considered the “highest” city in the world, and it is this stunning geography that makes it so desolate. The city is located on a permanently frozen glacier, and can only be reached by truck via treacherous and winding mountain roads. Just reaching the city takes days, and even then altitude sickness, combined with the shantytown’s deplorable condition, means that few people can handle living there for long Make sure you pack your thermals ;) and say hi to Ma and Pa and all of those nieces and nephews! Wow, the scenery looks absolutely stunning!!

Not looking forward to it :(. It'll be our first Christmas without Dad and we all wanted to be together but my sister and BIL and my brother can't afford to come over again and we can't afford to go back to the UK, so Mum is coming here to be with us and the rest of them are staying home. It'll be a sad one. DubaiCat, my heart goes out to you! 3 years ago was the first time since my children were born that we didn't spend Christmas together, it is tough. Your mum will be there though, I think that is just lovely :)

Heading to Canada to see the inlaws. And possibly heading back to Canada within 2 weeks of getting back to the UAE... you are gonna freeze :\: Couldn't do a winter at home again! I don't think I would survive :( can barely survive a summer there...... It's cold here; ac has been off for a fortnight already. The summers are horrible here, but, the sun is still shining and that makes me feel happy :D The cold miserable, dark, wet, freezing weather I have to say, does nothing for me!!

this EW link has the details of the people we used this time last year. We were also told it was no allowed to use DEWA - and also that is bad for the pump to have it working to refill a pool. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=164395 Thank you October, I will call them in the morning :) I am really shocked about DEWA though :\:

Do you use a pool maintenance company? If you call their office they may be able to arrange water tankers for you at a cheaper rate. No, we have just moved into this villa so no maintenance :( We maintained it ourselves at our last villa, but it was also very easy to fill as well from the hose!

We have a water tank in our garden and DH started to fill it with the hose although it wasn't very fast, the tank though of course started emptying rather quickly. First time we have had a tank like this. DH stopped using it because he wasn't sure how it would affect the household water! So unless someone has a water tank in their garden and says its alright to do that and it won't affect the household water, we are a bit dubious about using it!! DEWA was our first option :)

until hubby decides its time to finally give in and buy a tumble dryer. Just leave him a pile of wet towels in the cupboard. OR go and buy a dryer. that is more or less what I did!! He now knows there are three things important to his wife: 1: Good washing machine 2: Good tumble dryer (always had one! cannot stand seeing damp/wet clothes around, not even at home hanging on the line in the garden!!) 3: am now spoiled by a dishwasher since moving here! Everything else I can cope with!! :\:

The same thing happened to me, a very long time ago. I was gobsmacked when my best friend asked me that! Her husband became a friend that she had encouraged. We did get close, but we were all close and might I add, i was single at the time, but nothing ever did or ever would happen. What I found out though not long after that was, she in fact was having an affair with one of my male friends! She didn't tell me, my friend did because he knew how close we were and automatically thought I would know!! Was that a guilt thing?? I don't know. But the very strange thing to me was, after they split up, he asked me out!!!! Didn't see that coming! To the OP, get your friend to talk. Don't let this come between you, we all do and say stupid things! Try to understand and find out why she is having a go at you!! She just may be going through some kind of depression/downer right now. She maybe feeling jealous because you are happy and she isn't! Who knows. But please do talk to her. They say, you always hurt those you love and it is true. This might be her reaching out to you for help!

Anywhere know a good place with 3 2year olds?? Apparently not allowed into Oman near Dibba unless you have a hotel reservation. When did that come into force? We have camped there around 4/5 times and never had any problems. Last time though was last year. Was hoping to camp there later on this year :( I wouldn't pay for camping if you have your own tent, there are a few places you can go. Time out did an best 10 places to camp or something like that last year.

Depends what you mean by 'mature' ? :) For me, definately Marks and Spencers. One of the only shops here where I know that the size stated on the label is correct and will fit every time. Good quality stuff at not too bad prices (although it annoys me that they just convert the UK price to dirhams, at a bad exchange rate and dont take off the VAT). The same in Debenhams!! They do not take off the UK price which includes VAT and then add on some more!!! Marks and Spencers and Debenhams are where I like to shop.
