Hi, I had a VBAC 3+yrs ago (in Welcare) and had Elizabeth Bain as my doula - totally fantastic. Her website is www.dubaidoulas.com I am now pg with my third and like you, I have Dr Raj as my consultant. Liz is 'doula-ring' for me again! I know she is out of the country until the end of next week but she can still pick up emails. You could also check out her dubai doulas fb page. My husband is fab but I really feel that I was more 'protected' with the extra support she provided esp when they ask your DH to go do paper work as you're labouring!!! Wishing you a very healthy pregnancy and birth x

I know that premaman sell two products that are meant to help with reflux although i cannot recommend from a personal POV: one is called cocoonababy and the other is a wedge to create an angle for baby... You will get through this, you sound very strong xxx

Ayda, I just wanted to mention that if you think something's not right to check with your Ob asap. I had 2nd degree and for whatever reason my stitches came out and had to be re-done. Esp when they are dissolvable ones it's hard to know as second time around I found some coming out but this time it was OK. I suppose I just knew something wasn't right. I was advised to recline rather than sit, esp not crossed legs and not too many salt washes ... Wishing you lots of healing love and Arnica was v helpful too with bruising and healing - it will soon be a distant memory and like u mine was a VBAC and I held onto the pride I had achieving it. You did it! xxx

I am in AD too Flower33 but I have chosen to go to Dubai as I was set on finding a doc that I felt comfortable with. I was seeing Dr Sawsan at Cure Diagnostics who delivers at Al Noor Airpot Rd but the hospital itself does have a v high c-section rate and although AHin Dubai does too Dr Raj's stats are about 15-17% according to her which (although high) are better than 30-40%. I using the same Doula as I did with my VBAC 3 yrs ago and also hypnobirthing..... I have a lot of excitement surrounding birthing this bubs. There are good doulas in AD too and I hope you find a Dr you feel comfortable with.... just keep asking questions and don't be afraid to change Drs if you doubt there sincerity re: VBAC. I have 2 other kids to consider too but as I cannot have a homebirth and I ruled out flying home due to disruption to my littles I consider Dubai to be not such an issue. Birthing our babies remains with us for our whole life and I know I need to be in a good environment to feel relaxed and secure to be able to birth x Edited to add: I'm due in mid May and I strongly recommend hypnobirthing to address your fears --- I have learnt so much since starting researching, mind blowing info!!! Fear-tension-Pain is a vicious cycle and can lead to a less that desired birth outcome (also interestingly can appear like Failure-To-Progerss!?!) x edited by caduku on 20/03/2012

Hi Klee! I am due with no 3 in May too, live in AD but have decided to deliver in Dubai at AH. Where are you going in Dxb? My first two are 2yrs 4 months apart, this time there's a bit over 3 yrs difference I can tell you from my experience that your emotions do vary with each baby (v hormonally related) I found second time around it was much better, perhaps it would be good to chat off-board if you would like? let me know when you get my email ad and then I will remove xC edited to remove email ad edited by caduku on 21/03/2012

Dr Raj at American is pro VBAC and I found her to be very matter of fact... I had a VBAC (not with her) with my second and you are right, you need to be very proactive, straight talking and follow your gut. If something doc says that you don't agree with or that doesn't feel right then find a care provider who does support your decision (assuming there is not medically urgent reason for you to have another c-section which, from what you have said, there isn''t) Al Ain will not "allow" you to birth in water if you've had a c-section!!!! So sadly that's not an option.. defo check to confirm but that's what's stated on their website. I am using hypnobirthing, through Dubai Doulas and feeling SO good about this pg. I would totally recommend a doula to support you over here esp as you 'have' to be in a hospital and I was SO determined not to have a c-section again which, like you. I believe was not really an 'emergency'. Read up, research, get assertive, demand what you want (nicely and with a smile). HTH xx

Gosh I had to sign in just to reply.. not often signed in but feel I needed to relay my experience/advice.... Yes, everyone and their aunt will have advice - I learnt to smile, say thanks for your advice and then do what I thought was right. Sometimes they will be helpful things and a lot of the time NOT! It's discerning what is helpful that can take up your energy ... pick your battles. Regarding breastfeeding for example... my mother was very well intentioned with her advice but turns out to be TOTALLY out of date and I was so clueless with my first that I followed her and it was not right at all... with my second I was so much better informed and knew what to do.... check out kellymom.com for bf stuff... Regarding sleeping - figure out what you will want to do and don't be afraid to try out diff things... I did moses basket with first that in the end turned into cosleeping for my energy and sanity.. with second I had cot next to bed with side down like extension of bed and coslept that way.... lemme know if you have any other qu.. she will for the most part be very helpful for you I'm sure but you need to be able to tell her to back off if necessary otherwise you may get more stressed than the benefit she's providing IYKWIM Congrats and good luck x

The gestational diabetes is something I know very little about and obv I am not a medical professional but IMHO I would: Seek another opinion despite the hassle.. Ultrasounds are NOT conclusive in predicting baby's weight.. 3kg is not massive... 4kg is not massive so I don't know why I often hear docs over here getting their knickers in a twist about 'big babies'... who knows how big your baby actually is exactly nor how big on delivery. I had a VBAC and I fought hard to get it. I would go research other doc's opinions, Try Dr Oksuz at Healthbay or Dr Raja at American . Wishing you lots of luck and keep on top of that diet control of the diabetes cos it will be the biggest area they will refer to with concern to go for a c-section... You could even try to hire a doula? x

We've paid an experienced (with expat family and local) Ethiopian maid 1400 and quickly increased once we saw her capability.... it depends what salary they started off at and how generous the salary increases they received.. this was 3 yrs ago however so perhaps the market has gone up?

A friend of mine swears by a concentrated camomille tea solution used to wipe the area clean. i've not tried this but she;'s used it for her 3 babies when needed so must help. You could try other creams, perhaps Weleda and defo try different nappies, perhaps cloth nappies too. Good luck

I had my DD 3 yrs ago in Welcare and the BF support was terrible. I had bf my son until 18 months and got through the painful times and i KNEW something wasn't right but the explanation I was given about my concern was, sorry to say, utter bo***x. I ended up seeing Dru a certified lactation consultant at healthbay polyclinic who was AMAZING. Please, if you can I would highly recommend you find a certified lactation consultant. They are worth their weight in gold. If nothing else they can reassure and this leads to a more relaxed mummy which can help with your milk too. I ended up bf DD till 2 yrs old and would have struggled had it not been for Dru. also this website help A LOT: www.kellymom.com wishing you lots of love, and milk! xxx

I have seen Dr Stiles at Al Noor (airport rd) who was fine.. some rave about him but I though he was OK. I have since been going to the German Medical Centre on Island and seen Dr Sobek who is like a GP - family medicine and she was great, very thorough and even called me to follow up which is unheard of. There is also a pediatric specialist there... they even accept walk ins although you will have to wait a while but booking appt is obv best unless there is a sudden illness. HTH

For those who refuse to examine the theory that there is no physiological reason for pain in birthing, the way to accommodate it is to provide a plethora of drugs that the birthing mother can escape into. For the pregnant mothers looking forward to such relief, the drugs are offered, not as a last resort during labor, but rather as a menu, presented within the childbirth education class so that selections and decisions can be made early on. These mothers want to believe that the drugs won't cross the placenta and affect their babies. No one tells them that the placenta has no barrier. And so they go into their labors believing that their birthing bodies are inadequate, but they can be 'delivered' by drugs and technology, even when these interventions take them further away from normal and gentle birth for their babies.

Hi, I had a VBAC with my second. I only used a TENS machine and gas and air. I refused to consider an epidural. I am not a medical professional so I advice you to do some research but it is my humble opinion that an epidural will significantly increase your chances of another C section. I didn't want any drips or anything but the doctors were getting their knickers in a twist so accepted a canular (SP) so that if required they can hook up a drip. In an emergency they can give a spinal block, epidural or general anesthetic. I think the reasons you have been given are not wholly watertight. I cannot comment about uterine rupture, other than to say yes there is a slightly greater risk as you have had an incision before but presumably they have assessed whether you are able to try for a VBAC in the first place (based on amongst other things the reason for the previous section) so this risk shouldn't be high. In short they are making their lives easier and reducing your success rates... I may get shot down but as I said I am not a medical professional, only done my research and I advise you to see what you find out.. I wish you lots of luck and stick by your guns.. IT'S YOUR BIRTH XXX

They didn't have flashy brochures but I just need to move 10 mins away and nothing to be damaged, it's not like it's international move or anything! Dh will be pleased at the saving too Thanks heaps!
