Hi, Congratulations on your pregnancy! I delivered my first one with Dr Elsa at city and highly recommend her. Ummzarinah - I'm sorry that you've had to move hospitals at the last moment also surprised about your experience with Dr Elsa. I had a totally opposite experience, she was very patient and never once pushed thru appts also she was the one who was **** bent upon me going for a natural delivery though I was ok with a c sec and finally she gave me the best birth. My baby suddenly was in a very eccentric position when I went into labour and any other dr wud have immediately chopped me but Dr Elsa brought the baby into right position and finally I had a normal delivery with just 14 mins of pushing.

According to the city hospital website, Dr Elsa is a community based specialist, so she still must be delivering in city though she might not be taking consultations there. Why don't you call the hospital directly and ask for her whereabouts or you can talk to marielou who was her nurse. Pls do post if you get any info.

Its easy to make yourself. Just go to Carrefour or Geant bakery section and ask for a kilo of raw dough. It costs about dhs5. It tastes just as good if not better as its freshly made compared to the canned stuff from Pillsbury. I use that dough to make savoury monkey bread for bbq's and its always a hit. If you don't mind can you pls share the recipe? TIA

Park N Shop at Green Community has them. They are by the milk and cheese section in an end cap. What recipe are you making? You might be able to substitute with something else if you can't find them. Hi SunDevil, I want it for mini garlic monkey bread. Any suggestions what I can substitute with? Thanks!

Hi Ladies, I'm due to deliver my second in a couple of weeks. I delivered my first with Dr Elsa at City hospital and she totally fantastic, unfortunately this time around she's leaving for Christmas break around my due date so my option is to either deliver with Dr Deb at city or Dr. Dhar at Zahra. We did a tour of Zahra and quite liked it but heard the anaesthetists and (god forbid) NICU is not that great. Anyone delivered with any of these doctors pls give me your review n experiences. My only other option then is to get induced around 37 weeks if I want to stick with my doctor... edited by menky on 10/12/2014 Hi Menky, Congratulations on the second one! Not sure if this would be of any help but I would like to share my exp. I am a ftm and was in the same boat earlier this year, Dr. Elsa was going to be away during my 37th and 38th week and there was no way I would have held on until she returned (I had started dilating frm the 33rd week)so I was given two options to go with - Dr Deb or Dr Anne Philips but I was very sure that I wanted to deliver only with Dr Elsa. After Dr Elsa had given me the assurance that the baby would be fine even though he had not completed term I was induced at 36w+3days and gave birth to a perfectly healthy baby. I would also like to add the if it were not for Dr Elsa I would have definitely ended up with a c sec. After about 5-6days I developed some infections in the stitches and was checked by Dr Deb and found her to be really cold and uncaring(once you are Dr Elsa's patient you really get spoilt ?). This is just my opinion about her but must add Tht I just walked into the clinic and asked to be checked without making a prior appt and Dr Deb accomdated me. There are lots of threads about Dr Yamini Dhar on EW, you can search for her to get more info. My personal opinion is there is no Dr like Dr Elsa and if you can stick with her pls do so..Good luck with your decision! I meant there's one that has something tondo with the liver. My bAby is also preterm..born at 35 weeks..and had the light therapy for 3days. Her colour got so much darker that she looks like a different baby lol..was is the same with your baby? As far as I know, jaunduce is caused by liver not functioning properly it is more serious in adults than babies. This is what I've read in baby center 'High levels of a pigment in the blood called bilirubin cause the skin to look yellow. Everyone's blood contains bilirubin. Bilirubin is one of the byproducts created when old red blood cells break down. Normally, the liver removes bilirubin from the blood and the body then gets rid of it in bowel movements. During pregnancy, the mother's liver eliminates bilirubin for her baby. After birth, it takes a while for the baby's liver to start doing the job. The result: Pigment builds up in the baby's blood and his skin takes on the yellowish cast of jaundice. This type of jaundice, called physiologic jaundice, usually appears on a baby's second or third day of life and disappears on its own within two weeks. (In premature babies, it peaks at 5 to 7 days and may take up to two months to go away.) The yellow color tends to appear first in a baby's face, then move downward to his neck and chest and on down until, in extreme cases, it reaches his toes'. Also, jaundice is common in Breastfed babies but that not mean Breast feeding causes jaundice. Yes, my son was really looking dark after the therapy but now he's got back his colour. Do not worry your baby will get back her colour sooner or later. Hope this helps xx

What do you mean by normal jaundice? As far as I know every baby will develop jaundice for few days and it will eventually go away. My baby's Bilirubin level was very high since he was a premie. edited by CG9 on 15/11/2014

Hi, Sorry tht you had such a bad experience with city but I'm quite surprised . I delivered at city earlier this year and the stay was very comfortable. I had a normal delivery and the nurses kept on checking on my baby often. Infac I sent away the nurse when it was bath time (as I was feeding)but she promptly came back after an he or so to remind me about bath time. Their physio came and thought me various exercises and chatted about a lot of things. Although I met a Breast freeding consultant she was just awful. The only thing that put me off was my Dr was travelling the next day and during my two day stay no other Dr/ nurses checked on me, on the day I was discharged I insisted a Dr see my stitches but a nurse came and said everything's okay! I still don't know why another Dr didn't visit me. Is this how it works here??

Thank you Ladies! Have you hand carried more than 100ml in a bottle without any prob or is it mandatory to stick to 100 ml?according to emirates the cooler bag is allowed as a part of hand baggage but not the ice pack. Nasia - when you say Ice Arnd do u mean cubes of ice around or ice pack? Also, is it okay to carry extra milk in suitcases as check-in baggage. thanks! Xx

Thanks so much CG9 that's great, will definitely look into Dr Elsa, although I think she may be booked up until jan 2015-she must be good!! I am a little confused as to when I need to see my obstetrician next for a scan? Some people say 8 weeks others say 12? I saw my Dr once in 4-5 weeks. Getting an appt with Dr Elsa immediately is really difficult, thts the only down side but if she is moving out of city you can check where she is going and take an appt at the new place

Hearty Congratulations Sallyspoons! first pregnancy is truly exciting. I delivered my first baby in Aug '14 under Dr Elsa at city hospital. You will find loads of threads here about Dr Elsa, she is absolutely fabulous. If it were not for her patience I wud have ended up with a c-section. I had 12 hrs of labour and 14 Mins of pushing bfr my LO popped. She takes her time and never rushes at appointments, says things as is and pro- natural. I recently saw a thread about her which indicated that she might be leaving city hospital so it would be good to chk with the hospital itself about it. Btw, Most of the Dr's at city come highly recommend. edited by CG9 on 30/09/2014

Hi Daquiri, Hope you are getting on well with the bump and glad that your Doppler scan was normal ( read your post) I would say avoid J&J. My baby developed horrible rashes after using their products my pediatrician suggested cetaphil no-irritant cleanser and moisturizer. It has worked wonders. The rashes were completely gone by day 3, the cleanser does what cleansers are supposed to do without stripping the skin as it's very mild , can be used on hair and body with or without water. The moisturizer is thick and gives a protective layer to baby skin. For nappy rash I use mustela or just plain coconut oil. edited by CG9 on 14/09/2014

hey to you all!! My baby girl arrived on the 25th of August at 10.14. My water broke at 01.30, arrived at the hospital at 2.30, contractions started about an hour later and at 8cm the baby was still high and too big for me, plus the umbilical cord was wrapped around baby's neck so it could not come out the natural way, so we had to do a c-section. 1st time mum and excited for my little princess!!!! Congratulations NP! Enjoy these precious moments with your doll

Hi Daquiri, I did the Doppler scan at 31wks + some days. The main reason I went for this scan is coz my Bubs was diagnosed with renal pelvis dilatation at the 20wk scan. The Doppler one was just a follow up scan to see if the dilatation had increased or not. If you've had no major findings at your 20wk scan I don't think it's necessary. I had mine at fetal medicine center Xx

Hi CG9, Congratulations on your new arrival :-) I'm due to deliver at City in August also. Your experience of the nurses wanting to dress your baby straight after birth does worry me. I've always been told that skin to skin contact straight after birth is very important as it produces hormones that help with breast feeding. I would have thought that this was standard practice. Guess I need to be prepared to be firm about what I want! Also good luck to everyone for their upcoming deliveries and sympathies to those suffering in the heat. I'm finding the last few weeks tough! Hi, Sorry for not being clear. The nurses insist on skin to skin and you are allowed to hold the baby for as long as you like so don't worry about it. The clothes thing happened after skin to skin when he was taken for his evaluation and measurements. Xx

Hi ladies Congratulation all I am new mom expecting twins boy and girl. My EDD is end of August unless they want to come out earlier) Pls Anybody got experience or info about city hospital? We had a tour few weeks ago and look very busy . Thanks Hi, I delivered at city last week. Overall experience was good. Dr - fantastic, before/ after care - fantastic, admission/ discharge - super easy. Things which disturbed me were when my baby was born the nurses asked us to handover clothes to dress him, they did not even wrap him! I'm not sure if this is the norm or it just happened to me. The least I Expected was to wrap him in something immediately after birth. Secondly, my baby was a Premie, born at 36wk+3days at discharge his jaundice levels were under control but 48hr hrs later after taking all Precautions it shot up to high risk and was hospitalized for 2 nights. I fell they should have been more cautious in handling a tiny baby and given him few hrs of phototherapy right away even if the levels were low. It was quite stressful running back and forth to the hospital!. Please feel free to ask me any info required. P.s - I'm a ftm too.. Xx edited by CG9 on 24/07/2014

Thank you Ladies..:) Yes Daquiri, I was on epidural and I'm so glad I had it. I must say you are in safe hands with Dr Elsa my second stage of labour was very long but Dr Elsa kept on reassuring me that I can do it and have a normal delivery. She was extremely patient and positive. I was 4cms dilated and did not progress at all till late afternoon and then by 6pm was 6cms but frm 6cms to 10cms happened like magic with Dr. Elsa's guidance and help and then it was just a matter of 14 mins before I held my lil boy. I wish you the very best and hope you have a safe and smooth delivery. Xx

Josie - Back home we have the Doppler scan at 32w but here it is up to the doctor to deside if needed. I visited my doctor yesterday(30w+4d) and she did not mention anything about Doppler Scan. CG9 - is everything fine with your little one now? How are you all doing? I am having huge heartburns, nausea, belly pains and cannot walk for more than 10 minutes without feeling that the baby is pushing hard to come out!!! Still 2 months to go and I really can't wait!!!! Hi NP, The dilatation is still there but the bright side is, it has not increased much since the anomaly scan and is still mild. He'll have an ultrasound immediately aftet birth to monitor it. I'm almost done with shopping and thankfully still feeling quite energetic. Have heartburn once in a while but it's not severe. Hope you feel better soon...xx edited by CG9 on 23/06/2014

Another vote for the vista here, dd is 20 months and I'm still using it every day. Huge shopping basket is great and when they're tiny the bassinet mattress is safe for overnight sleeping so we used that instead of a Moses basket. I'm planning to do the same, also purchased the bassinet stand.

Thanks Lentil, must take a look! Anyone seen any sales or know of the best place to go for a good buggy - one with combined pram, buggy and able to take car seat. From what I see the Uppa Baby Vista and Bugaboo is perhaps the best.....there are so many models it's hard to know! Hi Daquiri, I'm due in Aug and just bought the Uppababy Vista. The vista won over bugaboo in all aspects, it's available at just kidding, sz rd. I suggest you go have a look at it. I can't wait to use it. Xx

Good morning Mommies! I just wanted to know if there are any big scans, other than the quick look the OB/GYN does, after 30 weeks? I feel a bit out of bounce with my little one. Thank you. Hi Jossie, Not sure if it's a routine but I had a Doppler scan at 31wk. My LO was diagnosed with mild renal pelvis dilatation at the 20wk scan so perhaps this is why my Dr asked me to get the Doppler scan done at 31 wk. Xx

Hello Ladies, This might be a really stupid question. How to dress your newborn baby? as a FTM i'm so confused about the clothes to buy for him and with all these shops selling so many cute stuff has just increased my confusion! I've gone shopping twice only to buy clothes and have come back empty handed as I was unable to decide what all I would need. First of all, there are onesies (the ones that snap at the crotch) What exactly are these for? I understand the plain white ones can be worn as vests but what about the cute colorful design ones? Will I really need these? If i just keep him in a onesie the legs are exposed and aren't newborn's need to be kept warm all the time? I know the weather is scorchingly hot but the AC (usually set at 20-21 deg at my home) will make him cold. I love the colorful onesies, how do I use them? Secondly, is it important to layer? in which case i'm thinking going for the plain white onesies and then a bodysuit/ sleeper on top. Is this ok? Experienced mommies please help me.. Xx not at all stupid question...everybody faces this :) With my first i did dressed him up in closed feet sleeping suits when going out and at night. no other fancy clothes like pants or t shirts in first 3 months. during the day i use to dress him in buttoned t shirts either full sleeves or half along with a nappy or pj. No diapers during the day and if i have to use then reusable cloth diapers. Those onesies do look cute and i am tempted to buy this time but i am not going to because you have to put the baby in pampers all the time ...if going out you can put a cotton jacket and a legging or pant with it. my son use to outgrow those close feet sleeping suits like a bullet train. every month buying few for him. Every baby is different. At my home temperature is usually at 23 and right from birth my boy didn't like to be swaddled or decked in too many clothes. yes in the starting you do need to cover the legs but not much. You will get the hang once your baby arrives. Just touch his tummy and feel the temperature whether hot or cold. trial and error and you will be fine. if you are going to then buy just a few onesies and then once the bay is here you can buy accordingly in what you feel comfortable. Thank you angel joy, I guess i'll just go ahead with the full length body suits to start with coz I hate the idea of layering in this weather. Will the onesies effect the cord stump healing in any way? it all looks so body hugging type also is it fine for me to leave his legs exposed during the day for some time, only with the onesie on? Xx

@ CG9 Will definitely check uppababy. I was leaning towards baby jogger but getting a review from a bugaboo user is better as you already know the ease of bugaboo. I have decided not to sell my bugaboo for another year. as for base its good to have it beforehand. how will you stick it in the car otherwise? its much easier to take out the seat and just click it back again and baby does not wake up if he is sleeping. My son if shifted without car seat used to wake up and would not go back to sleep. Although my husband still wants another maxi cosi but i am looking for convertible options. After looking at some more shops we've decided to take the family fix base and maxi-cosi pebble. It's a rear facing infant car seat. Initially I was thinking of getting the car belt to hold the car seat which is an option if you don't want the base but somehow it did not feel very secure. Will get the delivery of the stroller this week. I can't wait to unpack it!!

CG9 i am a die hard bugaboo fan...absolutely love the ease and maneuvering of the stroller. (bee not chameleon) i am having a hard time this time searching for a good stroller. My 2 year old is still a stroller baby so searching for a tandem stroller as aisles here are mostly narrow is a pain in the ... all are so bulky and difficult to take apart for travelling! and i dont like phil and teds its second seat being so close to ground! Anyone going for a convertible car seat and which one? I would like to invest once this time for atleast 4 years. I completely understand Angel Joy. I was so stuck to bugaboo I can't tell you but yes that was until I saw the uppababy vista. I love the practicality of the vista, first of all lot more options at half the price. The bassinet can be used as a primary bed until the baby outgrows it. This was very important to us and you can also buy a stand for the bassinet to rest. Secondly you can add a rumble seat for the older baby and still use the bassinet for the new born so it converts into a double stroller and it has a huge undercarriage. The reviews say it's too bulky and huge but for us it did not make a world of difference as we were looking at bugaboo buffalo. The weight of both is almost the same and Vista is a 1 fold stroller if course after the bassinet phase. Vista also comes with maxi-cosi car seat adapters so that's a bonus, need not spend separately for adapters. We are yet to pick up the car seat but have decide to go for the maxi-cosi infant car seat and isofix family base and then change it after he outgrows it. I wanted to know is the isofix base really necessary at this point? I'm Not able to make up my mind! Xx edited by CG9 on 28/05/2014
