where is homebox? Its in Oasis Centre, recently opened, its a homeware, accessories and furniture store, very good value stuff, not designer level stuff but nice reasonably prices living, bedroom and kitchen wares and furniture etc. Worth a look. Yes, but unfortunately it replaced Q home decor. Was there yesterday and to my surprise saw it gone. Why are all the nice stores closing down? @Home has just disappeared from Mercato as well. Yes, I've noticed a lot of shops disappearing too around town recently, maybe mall rents going up so they don't renew and the cheaper stores that generate higher takings can afford it.

Had a bad experience with light fingered 'viewers' when selling on Dubizzle recently, don't recommend using it, only draws in time wasters and worse. Try cashconverters they will take all of it and pay you as soon as its sold, if you have left the country they will transfer to you, and you avoid the risky and annoying viewers. http://www.cashconverters.ae/ edited by Di@DXB on 08/06/2014

Something always bugs me regarding the drivers here. If you check social media, Facebook, EW, 99% of the posters strongly criticize dangerous driving, as in swerving, using cellphones, changing lanes without indicators, pushing into a queue, but anything from 20-40% of the road users at any one time drive recklessly and stupidly. And such driving is across all social classes and all types of cars, is it that people "pretend" to be good drivers on the net, or is it that bad drivers do not tend to post on the web ? [i'>And could anyone have an idea why some drivers get so "angry" when you use your horn after they swerve towards you?[/i'> Twice in 3 days, a driver cuts into my lane without checking, and I had to brake to avoid a collision, yet when I sounded the horn for less than a second, they went ballistic with their hand gestures. Its the by-product of their ignorance and arrogance that caused them to be driving badly in the first place!

You should see a doctor as soon as you can, If you cannot get to a doctor immediately due to your medical being pending, then cut out the food from work and take your usual home cooking instead and see if that helps. It sounds like you are having a reaction to something at the new workplace, if its not the food then there is something else there thats affecting you if you never had this problem before anywhere else.

Place a pudding basin shaped plastic tub into the head space and use as storage for other small items, I usually put socks or undies in and put on the lid, keeps the hat neat and the socks or undies are handy to find in the suitcase again on arrival. Solves two problems for me!

@ LL - I doubt they would fall for that as the divan is almost brand new cost 4.5 k so I would hardly be likely to be giving away an expensive piece of furniture. @ Meggsy - I really would be surprised if they would come back and return the things as they might suspect I'd have the law waiting for them and anyway don't want to invite them back to my home again. Thanks for the ideas but I am going to leave at it that and just warn as many people as I can about their MO. edited by Di@DXB on 04/06/2014

DI, do you have an Arabic speaker who can go with you to the police station? FYI: I have had something of little value stolen from my home by someone who I let into my home. I sent an Arabic speaker to the Rashidiya police station to file a case and the police would not entertain it. If you feel it is important, then go to the police... Thanks Anon, no I don't have any Arabic speakers to hand, and I totally agree it will be probably a waste of time to report it at this point in time when nothing serious has happened other than the theft of some very small items of little material value. ETA Just wanted to warn everyone by giving out their descriptions. edited by Di@DXB on 04/06/2014

Oh that's terrible. Never leave anyone unattended in your home. I bet they probably do this to alot of people. Lesson learnt, I may have had a lucky escape as I was alone at the time, just in case anyone else is selling and has a contact from these people, a lady will call and turns up at the door with baby in arms accompanied by two men, do not let them in, their mobile number ends in 645. edited by Di@DXB on 04/06/2014 Call the cops...... As AnonDubai said, I don't feel it best to get involved with these people again, they know where I live. so they know where you live, have looked around and seen what you have, know what kind of locks on the doors you have, have got away with stealing from you already and you dont want to call the police? seriously? If this was another country, say my own, I would not hesitate. Will have to wait until I have someone to consult with and see what we decide to do.

So how do you know they weren't scouting out the place to come back at a later date and break in? I'd rather waste police time and know that I tried to do something, than regret it later. Well I don't of course, but as AD says they will hardly take much note of this in the circumstances. I know of other cases where its happened and the police have said its their fault for letting strangers in, something I will not be doing ever again.

I just don't know what the police will care to do. They didn't steal anything of value and I know from experience that the police don't really care about petty theft by people that you have allowed into your home. The police will view it as just some people who came over and took a few inconsequential things. They can't act on anything because they didn't do anything illegal to you (besides the petty theft which the police don't care about)... Agree, I can only hope they were just light fingered opportunists and not casing my place for a hit.

I would agree. I'd call the police - you never know, they could be professional scammers and stealing off lots of people. Better to save others from becoming victims. Yes very possibly that's why I have put out a description and number details here for everyone. edited by Di@DXB on 04/06/2014

I don't think that I would do anything unless these ornaments were worth a lot of money. I would not want to be in any further contact with these people. This was probably their plan all along and they may do this a lot to a lot of people. The baby in arms is meant to make you feel more trusting. Let this be a lesson to you. Be very careful who you let into your home. They were probably scoping out your belongings to see if you are worth burglarizing at a later time... Agree, I feel it was strange there were two men rather than just husband and wife, the items were not that expensive but sentimental value, just little gift and mementos. Have put the ad on here now so will remove the Dubizzle one, that site is always time wasters or worse.

Had a family come to view a divan I am selling, and have just noticed some small ornaments missing from the sitting room, there were three viewers, two men and one lady with baby in arms, I took the lady to the bedroom to see the divan, leaving the men in the sitting room, after that they left without buying it. I have their number, what would you do?

Take care when using ATMs, if you do not pull the money out superfast it sucks it back in, this is what happened apparently, I dropped my card when retrieving it and I bent down to pick it up off the floor, I did not see the cash come out but the bank says it was dispensed by the machine but was sucked back in as I had not removed the money from the tray quick enough, some machines only give you seconds! Thought would pass this on!

Thoughts? edited by cymraes on 03/06/2014 No idea, but here's where not to go unless you feel like standing in a queue for hours to try on clothes, Debenhams MOE, not enough changing rooms to accommodate everyone trying on in the sale, stood for well over 40 mins as everyone waiting had at least 10 garments to try.

My top 3: 1. Jamaica Blue at Ibn Batutta mall 2. Barista at MoE 3. Cafe di Roma at the JBR Walk I stay away from Starbucks, Costa etc. Agree Starbucks has a weird aftertaste, probably the GM beans etc, Jamaica Blue is good but did you know that if you don't ask for the 'Mountain Blue' coffee they just serve a regular blend as the standard. Its more expensive than their regular blend but The Blue Mountain Jamaica coffee is superb. Illy coffee is also excellent.

If you mean the one in Barsha its on the Tecom side, you need to take the Hessa street direction slip road exit coming from AD direction and take a right on Hessa and then first right again, then first right again and follow the road round until you see the hotel on your left. Maybe this map will help. http://www.millenniumhotels.ae/grandmillenniumdubai/hotel-location.html edited by Di@DXB on 03/06/2014

2000AED to raise a new cheque! That is almost 340GBP that is horrific When mine returned due to signature irregularity I just did it through the bank direct, no charges were levied. Who do you bank with as I have never seen costs that high for a bounced/returned cheque Its not the bank that charge anything, that is Nakheel administration charge for me to submit payment to them in place of the cheque. My bank do not charge anything. Wow that it still shocking This is Nakheel standard policy for all of their tenants, so beware! edited by Di@DXB on 03/06/2014

Which is fine if yo can afford it, but so many people here now get *no* help with rent and it's a genuine and stressful problem trying to pay such large lump sums. It's insane that rent isn't paid monthly here. We don't get any help at all with our rent, but have managed to save just enough to pay the first three months. As I said I have seen a number of people stuck with having to find the extra % when the cheques are refused due to a slight difference in the signature etc What extra ^%? I only get charged if the cheques bounce, if there is an issue with signature there is no charge. I wish! Last year my usual signature that is always the same was rejected for no good reason and they charged me AED 2000 penalty to issue another cheque. who charged you that? Nakheel :( edited by Di@DXB on 03/06/2014

If you are advertising your home or apartments online as holiday homes in Dubai you must apply now for a license or face fines. No more private letting will be allowed. Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) announced in a media statement today that Dubai homeowners who wish to rent out their property as a holiday home will be required to use the services of a licensed operator, with their property becoming part of the operator’s portfolio. I guess this is in preparation for 2020. http://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/want-to-list-your-dubai-house-as-a-holiday-home-click-here-2014-06-02-1.551172

Yes there are certain types who will "look at you wrongly" the main difference between getting unwelcome looks here and elsewhere in the world is that staring is quite routine here. And from my perspective its not something I would ever just get used to, I have always found it crass, rude and invasive behavior and still do after decades here. You would need to go to another cultural level to accept it, but what I do accept is that its a 'cultural' trait within a certain percentage of the resident population that is not going to change. I put it down to culture clash and that's something that will happen living in Dubai on so many levels besides staring. edited by Di@DXB on 02/06/2014
