Hi, can anyone recommend somewhere to get the Interior of a car clean/washed and what sort of price it is for a pajero.. Thanks :) I recently had my car detailed at Yellow Hat, they did an excellent job and it cost AED400 for full interior shampoo cleaning and stain removal. The workshop is opposite the Courtyard in Al Quoz and the shop is in Times Square. I can recognize any major American city , but there were only 2. :_) Without reading the clues, the only one i got right apart from Dubai, NYC and Boston was London. Yes, likewise I could guess most of the European ones but not the US ones, although the one I did not need to look at more than 1 second was Dubai!

You are counted as resident if you stay in the UK for over 90 days, and you will pay tax on overseas income if you are domiciled in the UK as well, if you are not domiciled in the UK your foreign income is not taxable unless you bring it into the UK or work for a UK employer. You can see a virtual interview with at 'Find Your Maid', you can meet the company at the EW event tomorrow at DIMC too. This looks quite useful if you want to sift through a few candidates videos before having them come over to your place. https://www.findyourmaid.com/

I'm sure that sometimes the camera flash at the wrong car, like when a car 'undertakes' you on the wrong side and it goes off and zaps the car in the fast lane that's not going fast while the speeder in the inside lane gets away with it. Anyone else had that happen?

Etisalat are just the same, never appear at the appointed time. Do they really think we have nothing better to do than wait in for them to turn up as they please, I waited 3 days in a row once on promised failed appointments and the moment I gave up and went out they phoned saying they were at the door. After 3 days without being able to leave the house on empty promises they would not wait for me to return even though I told them I was literally 5 minutes away.

I spoke to someone yesterday in the processing dept that said that they could return the passport to me. I will lose the on line payment which I am happy to do. I have someone calling me back within 72 hours to confirm this as they need a letter sent to support this - I had to DHL a letter confirming this with my signature on. You [i'>[b'>can[/b'>[/i'> renew a passport in the UK if you are not there. A friend of mine did it recently for her son, she sent him the forms from the post office, he filled them in and DHLd forms, photos and passport back to her. She then went to passport office and did the day turnaround service for him. Another option, if you don't have someone in the UK to do this, is to use a visa company to process it for you - it costs a lot but is def worth it for peace of mind! A few people have done this recently - I have found out since sending my application off! Are these services safe and authorized, and are they able to speed up the process for people overseas? There seem to be some issues with some of them. There's a report on one such service in the Guardian Consumer affairs section. http://www.theguardian.com/money/2013/apr/15/passport-application-online-service-taken-ride edited by Di@DXB on 20/05/2014

If you go to 'Classifieds' and put in 'Nanny' on the 'Home help and Maids' drop-down menu, you will find lots advertising there. http://www.expatwoman.com/dubai/monthly_classifieds.aspx Alternatively you could use an agency that specialises in nannies, if you are going that route perhaps someone can recommend a good one, I have read that some of these 'agencies' just pick up candidates for you off Dubizzle and ask you to pay 3k upfront before seeing her. http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/topic174540-nannies-dubai.aspx

Mollydxb, from within the UK as far as I can see, you can apply online for a child's first passport, or use the Post Office 'Check & Send' service, or you can request a form to be sent to a UK address https://www.gov.uk/get-a-child-passport/your-childs-first-passport https://www.gov.uk/how-the-post-office-check-and-send-service-works https://www.gov.uk/get-passport-application-form hth

True the word does have varied connotations, if we go by dictionary definition it would seem a slap is a smack with an open hand that it hard enough to make a sound what struck, as opposed to a tap which implies a light handed action, acceptability does appear to depend on culture. "[b'>A Dictionary Definition[/b'> A slap or "smack" is a broad stroke made with the open hand or the back of the hand, as opposed to a punch that is made with a closed fist. Slaps are frequently made across the face, but can be also made across hands or any other body part, and can use either the palm of the hand or the back of the hand [b'>Usage & Meaning[/b'> The word "slap" is frequently used to minimize the perceived violence of an act, even if the act was especially severe. One person may hit another across the face and injure him/her severely, but in calling it a slap, it may seem less severe, since slapping is often associated with minor violence. [b'>Cultural Aspects[/b'> Slapping is viewed differently by different cultures. In Iceland, slapping of children is viewed as an extreme form of physical abuse, whereas in the United Kingdom it is seen by only some parents as abusive, and even then only moderately so. An Indian study found a high rate of approval for husbands slapping their wives, particularly among husbands and middle-class Indians. In many cultures, parents have historically been regarded as having the duty of disciplining their children, and the right to spank them when appropriate. However, attitudes in many countries changed in the 1950s and 60s following the publication by pediatrician Benjamin McLane Spock of Baby and Child Care in 1946, which advised parents to treat children as individuals, whereas the previous conventional wisdom had been that child rearing should focus on building discipline, and that, e.g., babies should not be "spoiled" by picking them up when they cried. The change in attitude was followed by legislation. Since July 1979, domestic corporal punishment of children has been banned in several countries around the world; as of 2014, 37 countries have banned the practice. Enforcement of such laws is rare, however, and the practice remains common in many countries. In Africa [citation needed'>, the Middle East, and in most parts of Eastern Asia (including China, Taiwan, Japan, and Korea), corporal punishment of one's own children is lawful. In Singapore and Hong Kong, punishing one's own child with corporal punishment is legal but not particularly encouraged.[3'> Culturally, many people in the region believe a certain amount of corporal punishment for their own children is appropriate and necessary, and thus such practice is accepted by society as a whole." For anyone interested to know, here's a list of countries where corporal punishment is allowed or prohibited. I'd check out http://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsPortalWebApp/downloadFile?contentID=HMCE_PROD_010856 as you can't bring in anything with meat/dairy from outside EU including pot noodles containing meat and cereals if include milk etc. just because some people bring them through with no problems doesn't mean it's actually allowed. If in doubt and you still want to take them through you could always have them easily available in your luggage and ask customs for advise on arrival. They'll be more than happy to assist. If can remember bringing honey back from NZ and as it wasn't clear if this was allowed I just asked, they had a quick look and I was allowed to bring it through no probs. Thank for the advice, agree, we are going to declare them of course just in case. [i'>anywhere in the world if you are not sure "ask" havent you seen border security etc lol[/i'> Yes, thank you very much, I have seen Border Security, as I mentioned I was trying to access the info off official sources and in the absence of clarity from HM Customs website I did "ask" in the hope that someone may have had experience of taking these items in so I could decide whether its worth packing them. And as I said in my reply before your comment, I was going to declare them in any case. Much appreciate all the useful advice given.

Friends from UK were here recently, twice, and bought packets of those instant noodles for her uni kids. Packed them with checked-in luggage, experienced no probs. Oh good, thanks, so they were going from Dubai to the UK with the dried packet food? Yes, they've done it a couple of times now within a space of a few months. They bought something like 6 x 5 packets so a sizeable volume. Fantastic! Thanks so much, wish I had asked hours ago, been going in circles on the customs website!

Wow again Di@DXB, you've answered most of my questions! Thank you. I must have driven past the Art House thousands of times but never realised it was there. Have you used the Art House's framing service? I have a couple of things that need re-framing and have been sent to Plant St. I haven't used Art House Framing , I have only used the one in the Magrudy Mall on the Beach Road, that was some years ago, they did an excellent job framing some artwork on acid free paper.

I would definitely be upset! I have four children and have never slapped/smacked any of them (and am constantly told how polite/well behaved they are). There is so much research showing how ineffective smacking is as a form of discipline and how detrimental it is to a child. Depending on the circumstances I would consider taking legal action if another adult slapped/smacked my child. I never smacked mine either and would have been furious if anyone laid a hand on my children. I would have thought that a stranger smacking someone else's child could be a cause for legal action too in most countries.

You will need a referral for Wellwoman Cliinic and they will insist they do a routine mammogram before you get to see a doctor, this is ok if you want a mammogram but if like me you want to consult a specialist beforehand, as there were reasons a mammogram would not be possible, they were unwilling to allow me to book an appointment that way.

Good Morning Ladies, My cousin is on tourist visa and offered a good Job in Sharjah but she doesnt want to go back home country. if you came on tourist visa, it is must to leave the country for applying the employment visa. is there any good & cheap option for visa change. Thanks in Advance It depends on the passport, if she gets visa on arrival she can drive to Oman or fly to Qatar, these would be the quickest and most cost effective ways. thanks for the info Di but we sent her tourist visa. she didnt get visa on arrival. before there is an option to pay some amount & you don't have to leave the country? I'm not sure about that, best call AMER hotline, 800 5111 they will give you exact details of what she can do.

I make my own too, you can use any organic liquid soap, like Dr Bronners, and add essential oils that suit your hair type, or make the liquid soap from scratch and add extra oils to your own base. Here are a few recipes for organic shampoo using ready liquid organic soap. Basic Shampoo Ingredients: 1/4 cup water 1/4 cup liquid castile soap 1/2 teaspoon sunflower or other light vegetable oil Directions: Mix the ingredients, store in a bottle and use as shampoo. Shampoos for Dandruff and Dry, Itchy Scalp Ingredients: 6 oz Liquid castile Soap 5 drops tea tree essential oil 1/2 teaspoon jojoba oil Directions: Same as above. Shampoo for Oily Scalp Ingredients: 6 ounces liquid Castile soap 5 drops lavender essential oil Directions: Same as above. Shampoo for Dry, Color Treated Hair Ingredients: 6 ounces liquid Castile soap 1/2 teaspoon avocado oil 1 teaspoon coconut oil Directions: Same as above. Shampoo for Enhancing Blonde Hair Ingredients: 3 ounces liquid Castile soap 4 chamomile tea bags 1/2 teaspoon olive oil Directions: Steep the tea and water in a covered pan for 30 minutes. Strain and allow to cool. Mix with remaining ingredients and then store in a bottle. Shampoos to Enhance Dark Hair Ingredients: 3 oz liquid Castile soap 1 tablespoon sage 1 tablespoon rosemary 2 black tea bags 1/2 teaspoon Olive oil Directions: Same as above. After shampooing with any of these follow up with this rinse which adds shine and conditions. 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 cup water (preferably mineral) Mix the vinegar and water in a squeeze type bottle, apply to hair and rinse. The smell of the vinegar will not remain on your hair, it also closes the hair shaft and keeps hair from being flyaway. Its good to do this whatever shampoo you use as the water here is high chlorine and salty, so the vinegar rinse washes all these impurities out too. If you hair is dry and you need more conditioning apply a raw organic coconut oil masque once a week and shampoo off as above. hth

To all Health Concerns, Most people regard good health as merely being, “Absent from disease or illness”. Most people are content to just get out of bed in the morning and know that they are alive. For most to be healthy simply means “Not to be Sick” The true definition of good health is much broader than that. Good health means being able to live life to the fullest. It means waking up in the morning in a clear, happy state of mind, with copious amounts of energy and a spring in your step that lasts the whole day. This is living at ones peak! “[b'>Good Health is a state of OPTIMAL physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being[/b'>” Many people wonder how their immune system is performing. Is it functioning well, or are there areas that need improvement? How you answer the following questions may determine if you might be suffering from immune dysfunction. Do you have recurrent viral infections? Do you experience reduced stamina and resistance when under stress? Are you feeling tired & exhausted by mid afternoon? Are your energy levels constantly below normal? Do you have herpes (Genital and or cold sores)? Do you suffer from frequent colds or flu? Do you suffer from inflammation and or infections in the upper respiratory track e.g. sinus, ear infection, sore throats, or swollen cervical gland on a fairly regular basis? Do you suffer from recurrent bronchitis? Do you have recurrent cystitis? Do you suffer from recurrent skin infections? Have you been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome? Do you suffer with Rheumatoid Arthritis? Do you have high blood pressure? Do you have high cholesterol? Have you suffered from recurrent infections of Candida or other yeast problems? Have you been diagnosed with Epstein Barr? Do you suffer from Gout? Are you having sleepless nights? Do you suffer from heartburn and Acid Re-flux? Do you have bleeding gums? Do you have skin problems such as Eczema? Do you have Diabetes? Checking your symptoms is the first step to discovering the state of your health. It can be alarming when you actually see in black and white just how many symptoms you are experiencing. Due to the lifestyle & food in Middle East many people have heart & diabetes & high blood problems, not to mention other diseases. If we suffer from any of these conditions what is your solution?

Well, ladies, at least the OP has given a heads up to what is happening in Serbia and Bosnia, so people can find their own way to donate if they so feel inclined. Which in the grand scheme of things, is a far more gracious act than the posts crying "it's against the rules." Sometimes this forum is like a classroom full of teachers' pets. Sorry if the mention of law and rules offends you, only advising the OP in case she did not know, I have heard many cases where people got into really big trouble for collecting money privately and wanted to warn of this thinking it to be in her interests, I have not insinuated any wrongdoing on her part and really cannot see the need for your offensive personal remark directly obviously at me.

I realise the OP may not have known the laws and rules and was merely advising a direct route to donate. In any case its actually just as easy to donate direct to the Red Cross and Crescent as it is to the private party, they also take credit card payment online. Just done mine too.

http://www.weather.com/safety/floods/bosnia-serbia-flooding-20140515 Many towns are flooded and people lost their homes, their loved ones, everything they ever had in life. Animals and pets are gone. People that survived need food, water, blankets and very basic necessities. This time I ask everyone who can donate even 1$ should do so. All donations will be sent to RED CROSS SERBIA so they can further assist those in need! Please help! http://www.gofundme.com/99yvcc This is a tragedy, you mention the donations [i'>will [/i'>be sent to the Red Cross, but it seems they are being collected by a private individual off a personal fundraising website who "promises to forward the monies". Private fundraising is illegal in the UAE, it would be better to provide a link to the official charity organisations who are raising funds to assist the victims..

I just got mine back yesterday, I sent it mid March and it has taken 9 weeks to the day, if you are travelling very end of June you should be ok if you sent it 3 weeks ago that gives you a turnaround of 9 weeks. I wrote to them a couple of weeks ago to chase it as tracking had been saying"being processed" for over a month. That may have moved it along a bit, worth a try. How do you think a LL can know for sure why his neighbors are getting higher rents? The fact is they are and they attribute it to Expo 2020. It has to do with more money in the economy from various sources but not Expo 2020. Sorry marytodd, but you're completely wrong. LLs are *demanding* higher rents *because* of the Expo. If you don't accept that, then you're being extremely naive. We had friends who were looking to rent just before the anticipated decision due to be announced on awarding 2020 , they were told by more than one agent to pin a place down immediately because rents would rise if Dubai wins. edited by Di@DXB on 16/05/2014

Over 85% of people say their salary does not cover their cost of living. A lot higher than I imagined, so less than 20% of people are making ends meet, makes me wonder why would so many people put themselves in a place where they are just treading water financially. http://arabia.msn.com/news/news-poll/84/expats-salary/ edited by Di@DXB on 16/05/2014 [i'>Only just over 3,000 people have taken part so far so hardly a huge sample...[/i'> We don't save much but we don't owe anything either (we don't even have a credit card here) so we're happy to stay - we love the place !! But we are fortunate to still have rent, medical and school fees paid for us. Yes its only a sample poll, but even for a small count the figure are quite stunning and looking at the overall comments on here the consensus would seem to indicate that increasingly more people are living month to month and not saving as they had hoped. Many other reports have been published that would support that too. Do you think a bigger poll would show completely the opposite? Actually, 3000 people is a huge sample. Surveying just 1000 people will give you a margin of error of less than 2 percent out of a million people. Agree. Not such an insignificant count then!

Hello! My two year-old is ready for toilet training but he is very small for the toilet. I am not looking to put him on a potty. I just want to know if anyone has seen a toilet insert recently. I mean those things that you put over the seat to make it smaller. But I am not looking for a plain white one. I'd like a cute one with Mickey Mouse or Spider-Man or something like that. Has anyone seen this around? You will find them at Babyshop, C4 and Geant, there are Disney ones and other plain ones too, I only looked at the girls potty seats, bought a Princess one that had a ringer button the child can push when done, very cute. Probably have similar for boys.

I have had 5 very different quotes (from 6,000- 2,400) for a 3 bed townhouse in Ranches come back to me from movers and wanted to see who has had recent experience with Supremeway Packing as their quote was much lower than the others. I have seen mixed reviews here on EW. Have used them 3 times and no problems at all, I guess things can go wrong, accidents can happen with the best of movers, but if I was to move again I would not hesitate to use them again.

They used to say if you get down on all fours and scrub your floors your baby's head will engage. That brings back memories, strangely I had my last check up before due date and was told her head had engaged and all was fine, then went to visit an elderly auntie who split tea on her carpet while I was there, got down to scrub the floor and went into labour two days later with breech presentation! You may only end up with clean floors!

Just tracked mine, finally its saying 'dispatched' that's 9 weeks from mid March and if it arrives in the next few days it will be near on 10 weeks all round. Good thing I sent it 4 months before I planned to travel!

If you go to their FB page they are inviting your ideas and suggestions for how to deal with the traffic jams, seems they have not got a plan in mind yet and something obviously has got to be done before 2020. Well done! For future reference, it is of course possible to change names on your Emirates ID. I changed mine as soon as I changed it on my passport. And last time I went to KV, that sandy parking lot had been closed so everyone was forced to use the too-few paid parking spots. Really, that's awful as its impossible to park there most of the time without that car park. Good to know thanks!

Hello ladies. Just wondering what happens to the coffee mornings during Ramadan? Does anyone organize any gatherings for iftars in place of? I am a homeschool mom so I am normally working with kids and can't make them. Since it is almost vacation time, I am hoping to make it to June and August coffee mornings. :) But would also like to know if there are any organized iftars by EW or would anyone be interested in meeting up for one? Thanks Last year most of the coffee mornings stopped as they are held in coffee shops in the malls which of course are closed in daytime in Ramadan. There was a replacement coffee morning held once a week at a hotel in the Marina, since hotels can still serve food in fasting hours, I expect this year a similar arrangement will be made. Not sure about EW Iftars. Perhaps someone else knows. ETA Would have liked attend but will not be here this year. edited by Di@DXB on 14/05/2014
