Hi I am looking for a hotel recommendation for my brother and his 5 kids! The last time they visited they drove out to LeMeridian Al alaqah Beach hotel and are thinking of doing the same again but to somewhere different but equally nice so they get beach and a drive somewhere out of Dubai. It could be in a similar direction. The kids range from 4-17. Any suggestions please 5 kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't think with that age group that you could better Le Meridien.... just been to Hilton R and S in RAK - fab but......... still think Le Meridien would suit with that age group better.....

Husband and I have decided we are not doing anything for our 10 year anniversary coming up in 5 weeks. Everyone is asking us what we are doing? We just want to do something small and special. Did you all have a big blow out celebration for your decade anniversary? :( Thanks all. Why don't you just tell everyone you want to do something small and special - I think that sounds lovely.

Wow, lucky you :) I've not even met a real live Emirati in a social context, let alone got close enough to be privileged to be invited to an Emirati wedding. Our former housemaid was under Abu Dhabi sponsorship. Her employer cancelled her visa in Abu Dhabi, and he gave her the documents showing that her visa was cancelled and we applied for her visa here in Dubai. She got her visa very quickly. when was that though....

My friend has tried to do this from AD to Dubai and it's been a complete and utter nightmare. She may well come on and post in great detail. From where I am sitting - it's sooooo not worth trying...... I found her someone amazing here in Dubai and she's taken her on and doing her visa - the girl from AD has still not been able to get over to Dubai - red tape, red tape, red tape.......

Choose a different 'chosen'. My friend wanted to take on a girl who was in AD to work in Dubai - it seemed straightforward but it wasn't......... it's taken months and months and quite a bit of money and she's still not here in Dubai....... Choose a 'chosen' from AD and save yourself a whole load of hassle and money - that's my advice in a nutshell......

Thinking of getting one of these for our children (7 and 9 years old). If your children have one, do they like it? Use it much? Worth buying? Which one?? Kids are asking for mobile phones ('everyone has one'), but that's not going to happen for a good few years yet.... Thanks in advance missy I pad is the best out of those for the kids. Load skype on it and they can call their friends on skype on the ipad. My little boy has an ipod touch and an ipad - he uses the ipad more at home but when we are out and about the ipod touch is his preferred one cos it's so small to carry around. They're both fab!

In our experience having moved within Dubai in the summer - no...... they dip a bit around June but then the new influx of people arriving for the summer keeps the rent buoyant. AR is very popular at the moment and a friend of mine really struggled getting a new place at a similar rent.....had to increase slightly for a similar property.

Hi I'm alsoa newbie and was wondering what happens if you can't get your children into a school?? I have twin 4 yr olds and we are due to arr later this yr having only just found out we are coming. is it ok to keep them home or home school them?? what steps must one take to ensure you aren't breaking any rules if there are any? tks If you can't get them into a school at 4 it's not against any law. It's up to you. You can keep them at home or you could look at nursery schools that offer an early years programme. I kept my little boy at the childrens garden in the Green community which goes to KG2. He left after KG 1 and entered british curriculum school at year 1. I think all the kids need to be in a school or being taught (home schooled) by Year 1. You can do reception stage in a nursery or yourself at home without breaking any laws. You will find the that early years are incredibly difficult to get into because they are the most popular years here.

Thank you for the ideas! I used to shop at the co-op when we lived in AD but haven't found one here. Is there a good one near AR? The Coop by Safa Park is good. Their fruit and veg is great. There's a Coop by the fruit and veg market but I've not been to that one. I think those are the closest to AR.

Those rules went out, LL can do what they want. you're not right Boom - there are still laws - my freinds won their rent committee case only last month - the LL tried it on and they won..... If LL can do what they like then why is the rent committee so busy and so many people winning their cases..... edited by Clairehdp on 18/06/2011 so, in the face of conflicting opinions where can i find the correct answer ? does this rent committee have a website or something ? I have the correct answer - first year renewal is at the same terms and conditions. If the LL tries to get you out on your first year renewal he has to give you a years notice....... I have had all of this tried on us - the first one we ended up filing a case, going to court and we won. The second time - we went to the rent committee explained our situation and was told no - on first year renewal same terms. The LL think they can do just as they like but they can't there are rules to protect the tenants and you are treated well by the Rent committee if you have a problem. The rent commtitee sit in the municipality biulding by the creek - take your tenancy agreement with you and go and see them - much better in person. Of all the people I know who have had problems they have been great. All the people I know who ended up filing a case - won. We have always gone back and quoted that we have been to teh rent committee and they have have advised us......... it's amazing how quickly your new agreement is sent with no changes! Good luck!

get the girls their names in arabic on a necklace - if you do it in silver it's not expensive and is a really lovely little gift. totally unique. You could get those pictures done with their name - the ones where an A is done like the Burj Al Arab - they do them in the malls and definitely in madinat souk - friends of ours have often bought them as a souvenir for their children and hung them in their bedrooms.

Remember first year renewal must be at no rent increase. are you saying the first renewal must be at the same rent ? ours is due in october and we're wondering if it will go up.. Every time I fill up my tank here, I think I'm saving myself £60. And when I drive out of the free mall car parks, I still think that I'm saving £8 minimum for a day's parking compared to the UK!! couldn't agree more - at home i drive a piddly 205 and it used to cost around £45 to fill the 8 gallon tank - here i fill my pajero's 15 gallon tank for less than £25 !!! and when you do have to pay to park it's like 2 dhs an hour or something instead of £2 at home.. no road tax or MOT - just the annual reg... and salik and fines!!!!!! i usually manage to avoid the saliks and you only get fined if you break the law lol well that's me busted then!

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. we are thinking maybe if we increase our budget, it might open up some opportunties in JI. The relocations consultant told me there is nothing else available - but her credibility is decreasing with every day. Today I spoke to an agent who rang her yesterday to say she specifically had a house in the Meadows in mind for us, but we could only see it on Sunday and apparently because we had not booked the relo consultant for Sunday (have her Monday) the consultant declined theopportunity without even consulting me! So angry! Anyway, we will opefully see this house tomrrow and I am going to be sure to give Move One some written *feedback* on their team's performance once this is all over. There's a yahoo group of owners and there's a ladies group - I still know quite a few people still on there and can find out if any are renting. Friends of mine also own there and rent out - I can check to see if they know of others coming on the market. I have a friend who is moving off there - I can check with her to see if her villa has been rented but she's not moved out yet....

Don't JI flood when we get rain or is that Springs? Most but not all - depends on the clusters and whether the remedial work was done at the time of snagging. first year we were there we had lots of water come through but they came - sorted it out (which was a pain) and we had no more problems.

I've been using them since they started up and I have to say that they are the best, most reliable company I have ever dealt with in Dubai. You really need to get them to check the address and their idea of where the address is as it all sounds like they are going to the wrong place.

Hilton Resort & Spa is really good , enjoyed staying there.Service was also really good. Btw i didnt see any deals for this hotel in any of the sites mentioned.Can someone post a link.TIA thye've got their own great rates for summer - we were there last weekend and the best rate was 599 but we went for a beach villa which was more that really good and included taxes and breakfast.....

For those going to the hilton resort and spa check your entertainer book. We were there last weekend and I was really surprised to see so many vouchers for the restaurants. We used ours in passage to asia and it was excellent - there's also one for the something Vida restaurant and fine dining has the italian - we also had lunch in another and used vouchers - makes a huge difference to your bill.

I think it`s more italian style ;) very thin crust- love it!!! wish they had more toppings... More toppings - are you serious - there are soooo many to choose from - what are you missing? They are really good - i am peeved that they charge delivery to Arabian Ranches - they could freewheel to our villa!

Check out Dubbizzle i got a great little tikes playground etc from there second hand as its quite expensive here....also u have Toys r us that have quite a few bits. Haven't you been lucky. I've been looking for ages on dubizzle but with no luck yet. My DS will have to carry on playing with the sand and a bucket of water, until mummy finds something else ;) I will have a playset to sell - just need to confirm with my little girl that she's OK with it going and we will buy her a new one when we arrive back in the UK....... watch this space!

You don't need to pay for Maharba services. BA have a special assistance department and yuo need to call them to organise a wheelchair at Heathrow at check in. She will be looked after from the check in desk all the way through until you take delivery of her in Dubai airport. The guys will also wheel her out to your car (I always pay them a nice tip). It's a superb service and stays with your booking. On the return I just make sure a few days before travel that it on the booking and when you arrive at check in at Dubai Airport you make sure they know you need a wheelchair and within a few minutes a very nice man will appear and stay with your mum until she boards and then the wheelchair brigade will be waiting for her at her destination airport too.

Fay - now you got me thinking..... check out the list of the health care clinics - none list Arabian Ranches!!!! I would go to Nad Al Sheba, Umm Seqieum or Al Badda http://www.dha.gov.ae/en/Facilities/HealthCenters/Pages/default.aspx I hope she feels better soon.

When i took out my housemaid's healthcard they told me her nearest clinic was in Nad Al Sheba......thing is she's not been ill so I have no idea where it is or what it's called - hmmmmmm that's not really helpful is it! I think I'd run her down to the one at the back of the Shangri La.

I think people do tend to get more stressed at this time of year. Not just because of the heat but often they are having to deal with tenancy renewals and crappy landlords. Many are also packing up to leave so it's stress and upset all around and tempers are much shorter I've noticed over the past couple of weeks. I find wine, a deep breath and a smile helps!

The Address Sat brunch is really nice at the marina but I have a feeling they are not doing it any more - check cos it was really good. Saturday brunch is still on. It's the Friday brunch that has been moved to an afternoon/evening event. thanks that's good to know.....

check Jumeirah website - they do Sat brunch in Beachcombers, Latitude and I think Arboretum in Al Qasr The Cellar is nice because its a la carte but I think there's alot of work going on around there and mybe not the best. The Address Sat brunch is really nice at the marina but I have a feeling they are not doing it any more - check cos it was really good.
